I enjoyed my dinner at Dewey's. As has been mentioned previously, the Green Lantern pizza was great and their salads did not disappoint. What capped everything off was a small yet rather well rounded beer selection. I am a "hop head" when it comes to my beers. I enjoy really hoppy beers and well Cincinnati seems to disagree with me on this point. I was ecstatic to see a season Ale from Rogue brewery that was well beyond acceptable. In general, if we're going to get pizza, we've fallen into a pattern of going to either Adriatico's or Dewey's. Dewey's is usually the choice if we want to sit down, if we want fancier ingredients, and if we're feeling a bit more conscious about how healthy our meal will be. The Food: Our typical order is to split a regular size salad and then a medium pizza. Believe it or not, it may be the salad that has more to do with our arrival at Dewey's in the first place - it's good, and it makes us feel like we aren't just gorging ourselves with fat. They actually have several solid salad options, but we've gravitated toward the simple yet scrumptious caesar. Chopped romaine, shaved parm, and big fat "croutons." We liked the dressing so much - it's creamy and really holds to the lettuce well - we asked how it was made, and then were a bit surprised to hear the answer: it is the one dressing they don't make themselves, and it is easily available at your local grocery store. It's just Ken's caesar. On the one hand, empowering since we could just go buy some, on the other, a bit of a letdown that they don't have a secret recipe. Well, I guess why mess with a good thing? For pizzas, Dewey's is the place to go if you want variety. We usually take advantage of the fact you can do 1/2 and 1/2, and I'd say this trip was fairly typical: our general pizza favorite on one side (pepperoni and green olives) and one of Dewey's options on the other (Socrates' Revenge - though we swapped the tomatoes for roasted garlic (still eschewing the tomatoes out of season)). As you can see from the picture, they don't skimp on ingredients. Their crust is light and relatively doughy, but holds the pizza together just fine. It's probably closest to New York style, but has nowhere near the crisp. You can get red or white sauce, and both are solid, but neither stand out. It's the ingredients that bring the flavor, so choose wisely. Overall, Dewey's pizza is consistently good. Honestly though, it is never write-home-about great. I think its mostly that there isn't anything particularly distinctive about the pizza other than the numerous ingredients to pick from. The Ingredients: As I mentioned above, they've got a wide variety of options, but no sign of local, seasonal, organic or other notable ingredients. With all the options they already have, why not add some more for the conscious heads in the house? The Story, Setting, & Service: Dewey's is a chain, with 7 locations in Cincinnati, and then a few more scattered around the Midwest. Our experience has been similar at all of the ones we've visited. They have a somewhat signature serving style - everyone waits on everyone. It could very well be someone different who brings you your salad, pizza, and drinks. Only one person takes your order and brings your check though. We've found that it works, but I have no idea how that plays out if you're a server. Dewey's locations are clean, clutter-free spaces. The atmosphere is sort of like the pizza - good, but not notably so. As I said to begin, Dewey's is in our regular rotation. If you've got a suggestion for a place to take that spot, please let us know. For the time being, we haven't been disappointed, so we'll be heading back sooner rather than later. The quest for REALLY good Cincinnati pizza is foiled again. This place is decent. It's decent in that it experiments. I'll admit. We have been spoiled by our time in Bloomington, IN by an amazing pizza place called Mother Bear's. There, it was all about the specialty pizzas with crazy toppings. I also have a favorite pizza place in Akron, OH for plain old pizza (aka cheese, pepperoni etc). So Dewey's has tons of "weird" options. And they are all served on a fairly thin crust. I'll be the first to admit that I prefer a solid crust. And when you add a ton of toppings, I believe it is all the more important. Something has got to hold it all in! We came during baseball season and had the great option of a hotdog style pizza with mustard, sauerkraut, the works. It was pretty good, but just wasn't great. I didn't find anything at Dewey's bad...just nothing that makes me WANT to go back. In fact, my favorite pizzas of theirs seem to be seasonal specials so they don't exist 3/4 of the year! On other aspects, the service was really great and apparently the chain prides itself on hiring college students and people they know aren't "in it for life" but still wants to provide an enjoyable work experience. As a former food service worker, I LOVE that. They also offer a homebrew beer option. We tried it and weren't too keen on it but I believe it might change from time to time. read more

This is a great location with some awesome local beers on tap. This is one of the staples of Gaslight Clifton and really holds up the Dewey's Pizza name. One thing unique to this location is the awesome side street its located on and the great area you can walk around before or after your trip. This location also has a private lot NEXT to the Skyline lot (do not park int eh skyline lot!). The servers are also SO incredible and nice the entire experience. When you walk in you see the glass walls looking into the kitchen. Its so fun and cute to watch the kids run up to the window where the pizza chefs usually throw flour at the window or make funny faces that just make the kids so excited. I am trying to say this is one example of how the staff goes out of their way for their costumers. This continues to when you leave when literally EVERY staff member you pass genuinely wishes you a good night and thanks you. Fun Tip: Check out their specialty pizza of the month, its always interesting and normally delicious! This month the specialty pizza has blue cheese, jam, bacon, caramelized onions, need I say more?! Dewey's is some of the best pizza on offer in Cincy. They do a delicious take on a thin crust pizza by having inventive combinations like the green lantern (artichokes, pesto, goat cheese, etc.), Southwestern BBQ Pizza (it has corn salsa on it), and a seasonal Buffalo Chicken Pizza(bits of celery, chicken, bleu cheese and buffalo sauce: AMAZING). While you could be perfectly satisfied with your meal if it just consisted of Dewey's Pizza, the big surprise there is the gourmet salads. Dewey's has some of the best salads in Cincinnati, and one taste of their Greek salad will tell you why. A typical meal at Dewey's for my wife and I is splitting a large salad and a medium pizza. We can usually head home with some leftovers. Sure it's pricier than most, but if you're a UC student, this particular location gives a discount on take-out if you flash your ID. read more

I love Dewey's for a lot of reasons... the salads, pizza, and calzones are DELICIOUS. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is fun. The only downside is that Dewey's is so pricey. I stick to the BBQ pizza, a split side salad, and occasionally an adult beverage here. I've ventured into the area of the calzone and while I love their bread, it's a lot of that. I've found that adding roasted garlic in their pizza is the perfect topping and compliment to the flavor of toppings and their light but delicious crust. I'd put Dewey's on par with any other pizza worth your time in the area. The staff is typically very friendly and efficient. We sat at the bar last time (hungry and didn't want to wait) and they let me try a few wines before ordering. At a pizza place? BAM! Dewey's for the win! read more

Perfection on a pie! I love Dewey's. It's great, it's always been great and it'll stay that way. The pizza options are fantastic and they even do halves, with different sauces if you like! Besides the pizza, the salads are incredible. Living in Orlando, I dream about visiting this place. I bought a signature pint glass to have as a memoir 4 years ago and I use it all the time. Dewey's has some of the best salads in Cincinnati. They are fresh and very well thought out. I especially love the goat cheese, pine nuts, and dried cranberries in the house salad. I also really like the roasted cloves of garlic and the red onions in the Greek salad. The pizza crust is fantastic. I have never been disappointed with one of their pizzas or calzones. The desserts are generally very good and from a local bakery. The beer and wine selection is decent. The service is great at Dewey's. The whole crew works as a team- which seems to work well. This is a great stop in Clifton- I just wish they delivered. read more

Dewey's makes a mighty fine pie! Came in with a group of 7 on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised to be seated within 5 minutes. We started with some salads, which were really tasty. The Greek had a roasted red pepper vinaigrette, which was to die for. The large salads are definitely enough for 2-3 to share. As for the pizzas, we got 2 large pizzas and split them in half. I don't remember the official names of the kind that we got but I know one was buffalo chicken, one was meatball, one was artichoke pesto, and one was bbq. The buffalo was my favorite as it was quite spicy and had ranch and celery on it. Others at the table really enjoyed the pesto artichoke, but I did not try a slice of that. The service was very good and they have a lot of local beers on tap. My only complaint was the atmosphere. For such a good quality meal, the atmosphere was a bit cold. Don't get me wrong, that won't keep me from trying Dewey's on a future trip to Cincy. Pizza paradise! read more

Went to Dewey's recently on a work trip to Cincinnati and loved it. In fact, I loved it so much I went back.... more than once.... within the one week I spent in Cincinnati. First time I had the Ryan's inferno, which comes with buffalo chicken and blue cheese and is absolutely amazing. Light crispy crust that provides the perfect surface for the slightly spicy flavourful topping of savoury chicken and fragrant blue cheese. I also tried the porky fig which is a good choice for people who enjoy mixing sweet and savoury. The aforementioned awesome crust is topped with a fig jam, prosciutto, caramelized onions, and gorgonzola cheese. The individual ingredients are great and I definitely enjoyed the pie but overall the fig jam may have been slightly too overpoweringly sweet for me. However, that may well just be a matter of individual taste preferences. Service was attentive and excellent, no complaints there. Definitely a repeat the next time I visit Cincinnati read more

I love Dewey's Pizza. This place really knows what they are doing. The pizza's are fantastic (My personal favorite is getting a half Ryan's Inferno which has blue cheese and Buffalo chicken on it with a half Edgar Allen Poe which has whole roasted Garlic, Greek Olives and tomatoes on it). The service here is always great and I feel like I never have to ask for things like my drink to be refilled. They have an excellent rotating beer list and every time I've been the staff has been very knowledgable as far as being able to recommend something to my liking. The only problem is that they really don't have any appetizers other than salad, so no breadsticks or anything like that...but the salads are good. Bottom line is if you're going to eat here you're going to leave happy. Also do yourself a favor and get something other than Pepperoni or Cheese. It's a waste to not try one of their specialty pizzas. read more

We were visiting the Cincinnati Zoo and found this place nearby. Great atmosphere for lunch and all staff were very helpful. We got the 17" Don Carleone of which we are half of! It was 2 adults and one child. I love leftover pizza so it was enough for another meal. If you don't like leftovers, get a smaller pizza. The toppings were top quality, the red sauce was incredible, and the dough was fresh and tasty. My wife who normally doesn't eat the pizza crust didn't leave anything on her plate. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the downtown Cincinnati area! read more

This was not my first time at Dewey's but it was my first time trying their calzones. It was AMAZING! This was also my first time a the Clifton location. The experience was great. Even though it was during the afternoon rush, the waiters were very attentive and worked at a quick pace to get us in and out. Dewey's has the best pizza I have ever had anywhere and great salads too. If you are a Buffalo chicken fan, I highly recommend the Ryan's Inferno. This is the closest Dewey's location to where I currently work, so I've been several times with work friends and colleagues. It's never been a problem to find a seat for weekday lunch, even with a larger group and they are very accommodating with splitting menu items and checks however you request. The menu is identical to all other Cincinnati locations: salads, specialty and create-your-own pizzas and a few other things I never bother to look at because I know I'm getting a house salad and one of a limited set of specialty pizzas (personal faves: Southwest BBQ Chicken and Ryan's Inferno). They also offer seasonal salad and pizza specials for those who prefer to mix it up. And also, like all other Dewey's, I'm always a bit surprised every time by how expensive the specialty pizzas are. Guess they're worth it, because I keep coming back! My only tiny niggle, and it is tiny, is that I really wish they would provide Splenda as a sweetener option. I really love their iced tea and if they just offered my sweetener of choice, it would round out a pretty perfect experience for a gourmet pizza joint. read more

Just FYI, "half" size salads are actually large enough to split between 2 people, and all the salads are delicious. Our fave pizzas are Meatball, X-Pepperoni (not always on the menu but still available), Southwest BBQ Chicken, Bronx Bomber (without mushrooms), Ryan's Inferno (celery on the side because only my husband will eat that devil food), Tito Santana (summer seasonal), Dr. Dre (jalapeños on the side because I'm a spice wuss), and Bleu Ribbon (seasonal take on cordon bleu). Everything about this Dewey's Pizza is great. The red-brick building is just a cool look. The place is medium sized to perfection. It feels big enough to be accommodating to crowds, yet small enough to make you feel like you've found that hole-in-the-wall gem. Oh should I mention the food? First, someone in our party ordered a side salad and received a dish that was big enough to be divided into small salads for the 5 of us. Get a side salad and split it with your party. There will be plenty. The pizza was excellent. We went with a 17" build your own that included sausage, green pepper and onions. What did I learn at Dewey's? I learned that I like green peppers. Fresh toppings and the red sauce had just a little spiciness to it that added so much kick to the taste. The dough is thin and soft. It's not really crispy at all. It's basically perfect. read more

Even with the overload of pizza restaurants in the Clifton area, this tucked away Dewey's has been able to weather the economic storms over the year as one of the best/nicest options in the area. Their location hides between a Skyline Chili and J. Gumbo's in the Ludlow area, but provides a private lot and a few off street spots (metered locations). Forewarning, the lot they offer is narrow, with many cars making awkward turns to pull in and out and avoid hitting other cars. If you can find something on the street and pay the meter, get it. Sometimes it is just not worth trying to jigsaw your way into that parking lot puzzle. Their pizza, in all honesty, is phenomenal. They have a variety of specialty house pizzas (like buffalo chicken, Hawaiian, vegetable, and BBQ), but also allow customization and provide a build-your-own option. Dewey's also has a seasonal salad and pizza available for their customers as well. During my first Dewey's experience (a couple of years ago), they had the Don Corleone pizza and I fell in love! It was the perfect layering of mozzarella, capicola, salami, pepperoni, and oregano. Part of their mantra, as well, is to allow customers to do half-and-half's of any of their pizzas. This makes ordering much easier when you have a group or two people with different pizza preferences. At my lunch today, I split a medium pizza with one half Ryan's Inferno (buffalo chicken pizza with a white sauce) and the other half Hawaiian (pepperoni and pineapple with a red sauce). My most favorite part of Dewey's, however, is the salads. Their Caesar and Candied Walnut Grape salads are probably my favorite within the city. The lettuce is always fresh and crispy, the salad "accessories" (cheese, croutons, walnuts, grapes) have the perfect proportion to each other and the lettuce itself, and the dressing is just right. Not too much or not enough. Just right. I have to imagine they are tossed freshly for each order and that this (and other Dewey's) invest a good amount of time in training a salad chef. For the money, I definitely think it is worth stopping by and trying the Dewey's experience. Splitting a 13-inch pizza (medium) and a regular salad will run a total bill of about $26 and is easily enough for two people to share. Deweys was one of, if not -the first- fancy gourmet pizza places in our area. They have a great selection of topping suggestions for their specialty pizza with quite a few nice vegetarian options. The Green Lantern is my personal favorite. The house salad is amazing. I am proud to say we reverse engineered our own him made version. If you dine in they do have a nice selection of craft beers on draft. The wait staff is always very attentive and service is friendly and fast. Dewey's is not your average pizza. With pies like the Green Lantern (Minced Garlic, Mushrooms, Goat Cheese, Artichokes, Pesto) and the Edgar Allen Poe (Olive Oil, Mushrooms, Roasted Garlic, Kalamata Olives and Goat Cheese), you might think this some sort of snooty, Vegetarian restaurant that serves "flatbreads" instead of just good old fashioned pizza. But you'd be sorely mistaken - Dewey's has your standard pizza ingredients, too - they just choose to be a little more creative with their options. Named for the owner, Andrew (Dewey) Dewitt, Dewey's has slowly expanded over the past few years, now operating 5 restaurants in Cincinnati, as well as locations in Dayton, Cleveland, and St. Louis (Dewey's dad owns the St. Louis Cardinals), but this isn't the grease-in-a-box you can expect from larger chains. Dewey's had a nice, hand-tossed crust (which you can see prepared through a large window to the kitchen) and downright delicious pizza. One of my favorites is the Dr. Dre - chicken, bacon, jalapenos, smoked cheddar, and finished with tomatoes and ranch dressing after the bake (if it's not on the menu, just ask - they've got the ingredients). They have a good selection of beer on draught and some pretty tasty salads as well. Probably my favorite pie in town, but it is a little more expensive that the carryout joints. read more

I've eaten twice at Dewey's. Yes, they are a little pricey with the pizzas and salads, but it's a very quality pizza and very filling. To put it in perspective, I would only eat 2-3 pieces of a 11" inch small at Deweys, when I could easily devour an entire Domino's pizza of the same size in one sitting. I normally go to Domino's since I'm a college student, but Dewey's is so good that I cannot help it. Also - their calzones are the best. The dough on the calzones are especially delectable and it's the best deal on the menu! If you're a beer aficionado, then Dewey's is a great place to check out. They have a beer selection almost entirely of microbrews (well, not necessarily microbrews, but nothing from Budweiser, et al.) Last week they had Bell's Oberon among others from Victory and Stone (if that gives you the idea.) It's great pizza, and if I had more money, I would never go to Domino's. I may be developing a reputation for being a 5-star slut, but that's okay, because I love food and as all my other 5-star ratings, Dewey's has earned it. I'm going to treat this review as Guy Fieri treats his DDD reviews(mention a few, highlight one). Their salads are very good, especially the summer seasonal one with strawberries and walnuts. Their calzone is the best deal, 7.99 for three delicious toppings inside a fluffy dough, crisping around the edges and bursting with ricotta and your favorite choices(of which there are about 50). Their Socrates pizza is excellent, an homage to Greek style pizzas. But their is one that has blown me away. I am really not the biggest fan of buffalo chicken pizzas, but because they aren't good(they certainly are) but everyone seems to have one and I give more credence to creativity than most. My dear friend Marcus told me that I must split a Ryan's Inferno with him, and because he is a DEAR friend, I did ( I rationalized it as being creative because it had celery on it, a new one for me). Holy crap, was it delicious. It was the most balanced pizza of this style I have had, because it mastered the dynamics of taste, texture, and temperature( a personal requirement for a dish to be top dawg). Great balance between the buffalo sauce and ranch... Great balance between the soft chicken, crispy crust, and crunchy celery. And you get the warm pizza with cool celery. Man... I kid you not, this is one hell of a pizza; and I do not really like chains. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Dewey's yet! Dewey's is like a staple in my diet. My husband and I go there at least once every two weeks, if not more. It's within walking distance from our apartment, so anytime we're stumped for food, that's where we head. The pizzas are incredible. All of them. AND you can make your own, which will obviously be good since you created it. The ingredients are fresh and of excellent quality, and while some may complain about the price, I think it's worth it because not only is the food delicious, the servers are all there to help you (you are not waited on by a single person, but anyone who happens to be walking by and notices that you need something) and are super friendly. Try the Harvest Salad, as I think it's the best salad on earth. Also, the Wild Mushroom is my favorite, though we usually order with Kalamata olives instead of the roasted red pepper (my mouth is watering right now thinking about it). The Edgar Allen Poe is also delicious, and the Socrates Revenge is my dad's fave. And if you want to try more than one, they are happy to do half and half, which is awesome. I did my research before choosing Dewey's. On my first visit the service and salads were excellent; the pizza was average. The feeling upon entering was very friendly and attentive; the window into the kitchen kept my son entertained during our wait and everything moved along swiftly. We were seated and pizza came fast; there seems to be only one crust thickness. It was just fine. Not great, not awful, just fine. Be aware the sausage here is round slices, not chunks. I do think the ambience could be warmed up with some art on the walls but other than that, clean, bright and welcoming. read more

Second day we tried we succeeded in finding a parking spot in their lot (very small, cramped lot). We waited ~30 min for a table... a few 10+ tables were seated before we came so it was crowded. Loved the house salad- nice blend of greens with tasty feta...also liked the pine nuts. Ordered a sausage, pepperoni & mushroom (1/2 red & 1/2 white sauce), 1/2 socrates' revenge & 1/2 wild mushroom and cheese pizzas. Not impressed with sausage, pepperoni pizza. The socrates was OK - I'm not found of olives..my daughter liked it. Everyone loved the wild mushroom... all I had to do was breath in their direction & the vampires fled. This is some for real ass pizza. Dewey's is a Cincinnati legend. Great pizza. Great salads. Great beer. Great people. Has the vibe of a smaller, non-sportsy Buffalo Wild Wings. Maybe (That might not be a good description of the ambiance but that's because words are inadequate here to define it). Where people come to grub and drink and have a good time with good friends. Here's a look at the menu. We went with half Billy Goat / half Hawaiian. Everything about this pizza was excellent. Full flavor cheeses and toppings. The crust was a sort of hybrid between the softer crust and the thin east coast style. It was thin and light and fluffy and soft and buttery. But it lacked the crispness of an east coast crust. But still amazing. A must stop if you're in town and even worth driving a few miles if you aren't. read more

Sure, our family loves Dewey's. The pizzas are great and the calzone is pretty darn good too. But, Dewey's also has some of the BEST salads in town and a nice wine list that changes seasonally. Dewey's plays really good music too. The service is pleasant and attentive. I have met many a friend for lunch at Dewey's to enjoy a bottle of wine, an entree size salad and split dessert. Had an 11" with kalamata olives and roasted red peppers, my favorite pepperoni rosso from Angeli Cafe in LA. I admit I am somewhat of of a pizza snob from the east coast. However, I am currently living in Louisville and really like Coal's. Dewey's crust is tasty but not thin enough, too bready. Red sauce is spare and bland. Too much cheese. Toppings were cut too fine so no salty pop from the olives. Service was nice. Hoping this isn't the best pizza Cincinnati has to offer. read more

Four stars because in retrospect, it's not as good as I had remembered. I don't miss Dewey's. Their pizza tends to go cold quite fast, and their slices don't taste great cold because of how the cheese forms up. Their flavors are great - just eat it as fast as you can before it goes bad. You may find leftovers taste better when re-heated the following day. read more
