We were the only one in the restaurant for a good stretch and found that to be surprising at 6 pm on a Wednesday. They were also almost out of ice cream, many sodas, and chili fries. Really enjoyed the swiss mushroom burger here, the meat was flavorful and the toppings were fresh. They ended up not having crinkle fries, so I subbed out tater tots, which were crispy and delish. Not many burger places have the twisted genius necessary to earn the punny name "Dexters Laburgeratory" but this spot certainly does. This place was about to close up for Memorial Day before me and 3 other out of towners trotted in, and they insisted on staying open and serving us. Their hospitality was unmatched, except maybe by their life-alerting burger creations. To the family that owns this restaurant, burgers are simply a blank canvas where one can test the limits of reality. The Jalapeño poppers combined with the 1/2 pound patty on my burger may have tipped it beyond the 2000 calorie mark but was so dang delicious it had me questioning life's possibilities. My mind was blown and my stomach was full, and I loved the decorations of the dining area too. Will be going back if any opportunities present themselves. read more

Berkley Springs, WV, is doomed when it comes to food. They cannot keep a casual restaurant open. Dexter's should have been easy. It looks great, but the food is right off the Cisco Truck, with nothing fresh or homemade. One girl at the cash register, delivering food and cleaning up. One cook in the back. The staff was doing their best. Polite, kind = the problem is in the management (which was not there) and the food quality was poor at best. The burger tasted like a ground dairy cow. Very dry and gristly with chunks of hard stuff in it. Chicken tenders came out of a plastic bag, and instead of being 'tender,' we got the small hard, over-breaded chunks from the bottom of the bag. Rubin corn beef was off the cisco truck. It was overheated to a deep magenta color, dry, tasteless. The french fries with gravy and cheese had no cheese (they ran out) and the gravy was obviously out of a jar -- They have a pool table that the kids in the store were screaming over. They need to cover it with a piece of plywood when children are around as parents do not always keep their kids in line. This place is doomed unless management gets in there and helps with the service (this was a Saturday night), and upgrade the quality of the food they serve. I can go to Costco and get what they are serving, make it at home, and eat it hot at a fraction of the price. The only downtown casual diner BS ever had worth going to was Morgan's on Main, which closed during Covid. It could be a great space, but they need to close, get staffing, find a chef or experienced grill person to help the poor kid in the back, and management needs to be present and assisting. They should also reduce the size of the menu, and stick to a few things like making a decent burger - which is easy if you start with proper beef, get them done right, and then add on the fancy salads. They offer open-face turkey and beef sandwiches, but when asked, they come off the truck. Gross. Only do it open-faced if you can make beef and turkey in the house. Spend some money at Dexter's and get someone to develop a menu and create the recipes. Gravy is easy and should not come out of a jar or be reconstituted from dry. But it is all too much for one man/woman to prepare. We would have sent the food back and demanded a refund, but the girl was so sweet we did not want to give her a hard time over something she could not control. Great idea. It could be a wonderful addition to Berkely Springs. They need to invest time and money into what they are doing and not leave to 20 somethings to deal with managements failings. read more

Stopped with some friends today during our visit to Berkeley Springs. Had the mushroom and Swiss burger, added blue cheese. Fries came on the side. There was a nice area to eat that looked like it would be a fun spot to hang out in the evening. Had a pool table and some games. Maybe they are working on getting a beer/liquor license? Overall the food was good and everyone who worked there was nice. I'd definitely go back and try something else. read more

I'm always a little hesitant when a new restaurant opens up here in Berkeley Springs, so we were cautious on our first trip to Dexter's. I do love the 90s reference, so they had me from the start! We both ordered very regular burgers; cheese, raw onions, lettuce, tomato. We also got a side of french fries and onion rings. When they came out, we were immediately impressed! The owners are clearly the server and cook were incredibly friendly. Everything looked incredible. Obviously hand made patties cooked medium, and just slightly pink. This meat was so juicy and fantastic! The buttery brioche buns, the giant slices of sour pickle, the cheese wasn't some generic, yellow cheese, but a strong, incredible cheddar, maybe Tillamook? The crinkle cut fries and onion rings were fried perfectly. We actually couldn't finish it all and ate our leftovers for lunch the next day. When I went up to the counter to get a to go container for our leftovers, I witnessed a magical moment. The chef turned a tray of his club sandwiches around for his wife to admire while saying "have you ever seen more beautiful club sandwiches?". it was heartwarming to see someone take such obvious pride in their labors. Next time I'll have to get a club sandwich. It was so tall I have no idea how I would eat it, but I would give it a shot! We will be back to Dexter's Laburgertory again, and again! read more

Tasteless burgers and fries were the highlights of a poor meal. Sodas were watered down. Too many fixings made the burgers hard to handle.

My girlfriend and I ordered mushroom Swiss burger, beer bratwurst, roast beef platter, and ice cream. Loved the generous scoop of ice cream, and the spicy cheese balls were delectable. Overall, fast service and great food. Highly recommended. The only wish is that for the roast beef platter, the bread should be toasted, with a larger portion for fries, and would like it if they asked for the doneness of the patty. 9.5/10. read more

I live local but rarely eat out. Decided to give this place a try on a Saturday afternoon. Walked in and while I was looking at the menu the cook (who was out near the front counter was blowing her nose and wiping her mouth with a paper towel while talking to the other customers. I wouldnt recommend this place at all. The parking is terrible and the employees are not very welcoming. The owner and manager both had a strong smell of drugs on them when they walked by me and my wife. We were the only ones there and had a long road trip so we tried them out anyways. I ordered a steak sub and my wife ordered a burger and fries. Our order took half an hour to receive and the food was mediocre at best. We will not be returning. I would rather get a cheaper and better tasting burger from the Dairy Queen thats only about a mile or so up the road. I had hoped this would have been a much better experience being that this is a new restaurant, but it appears as though the management team is more concerned about the image of the restaurant over the quality of food they produce. ​ read more

This place was great. I got there right as they were closing thinking it was too late. I could see the staff cleaning up for the night as the manager came out and got us the food. On top of that the food was fantastic. We got two cheese steaks that were so juicy and delicious. I went back the next day and got Roast Beef sandwiches that were really good.
