Amazing! What an unexpected gem! We read the reviews for a good steak and decided to try it out on Friday night. The atmosphere was wonderful, the servers were so friendly and welcoming. The server brought us an unexpected serving of fresh vegetables and ranch dressing immediately upon seating. The service was outstanding. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. I ordered the scallops and my boyfriend ordered the filet. OMG! The food was amazing! I have never had such delicious scallops ever! Words cannot describe their flavor - Sweet but savory. We ordered both the cheesecake and the crème brûlée for desert. Again over the top delicious.! We enjoyed our meal, the service, and atmosphere so much, we went back on Saturday night and repeated our meal! You must go for the food and the service! The wait was not long for a Saturday night to get our tables with a group of 10 people: And with due reason the place wasn't packed and we thought ourselves as lucky for a Saturday night. Oh how very deceptive!! The wait to get our food took about 2 hrs. We kept asking the waitress after one hour "is the food coming right out"? She kept saying" it's coming out in a little bit". When we asked again after an hour and a half she said that it was taking a long time because a big group of golfers were being tended to on the other side of the restaurant. After contemplating getting up and just paying for our drinks after two hours of waiting for our food I decided to speak to the manager and I told the manager that we had been waiting for 2 hrs for our food. Mind you at this point we had to ask who the manager was. Usually when food takes longer in restaurants the manager stops by at your table and apologizes and lets the group know why it's taking longer than usual. I talked to the manager to tell her our situation and she seemed unbothered. She said I'll speak to the owner and see if we can get your drinks taken care of. The manager never went back to our table to discuss this situation further. And the waitress told us that nothing could be done. Half our group disliked the food and for the two hour wait to get our food delivered to the table it was definitely not WORTH THE WAIT! We all felt disrespected. Never coming here again. Please don't waste your time, if something is not up to par the customer service is not there. They do not put the customer first or have the leadership it takes to take care of customers. Very disappointed. I was the general manager at a restaurant for years and I always made sure we fixed whatever issue we had with the customers and made sure we kept their business one way or another because word of mouth travels fast. read more

We were on vacation at Kohl's Ranch for our birthdays. I asked the ladies at the front desk where the best place for dinner was. They told me about Diamond Point Shadows. So off we went. We each ordered a drink, very reasonably priced and well made- we later found out the owner was bartending that night- it was a Thursday. We ordered our meals...while we waited the waitress brought out a relish tray, crackers and butter, where do you see that anymore?? It was yummy!! We ordered a shrimp cocktail- large chilled shrimp, delicious!!! We ordered a ribeye to split with baked sweet potato, broccoli rab and we both had dinner salads. The dinner salads were made from mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, etc. It was very fresh and tasty. The steak was cooked to perfection, exactly right!! I asked for medium rare and that is what I got- not over cooked like VOLTAIRE (see another review). It was also a quality cut, not half fat like you get a the Outback! The veggies were delicious and the broccoli rab had a fresh garlic butter on it so it wasn't just plain. After such a good dinner we decided we had to try dessert. We ordered Creme Brule, it was fantastic! I could have eaten the whole thing, but I shared. It was cold and creamy and the sugar layer on top was cracked when I broke it and tasted like a marshmallow cooked to perfection! It was wonderful!! (Note Voltaire again). When we got our bil we were so happy with the price! It was about a 1/3 of what we paid at Voltaire for so much more and higher quality food!! So....they have dinner specials most nights (not Thursday), Friday is an all you can eat fish fry. There are a lot of fish fry's in Payson on Friday nights, BUT after such a good experience Thursday, guess where we went on Fri. It was great. We got a mixed green salad, 2 thick, lightly breaded fish filets and thin, crispy fries all for $11.99 each. They were slammed! The first fish was just warm so when we got the second round we mentioned it and our waitress must have plucked them out of the fryer herself- they were HOT! Of course we had creme brulee again! Thank goodness I don't live up there! I would be huge- creme brulee every night :-) It was all we could do to not go back on Sat for the Prime Rib special! Went for Build Your Own Burger night and were very disappointed. Server couldn't tell us what was included. Apparently to build your burger most things were an up charge. We thought it would be add what you like to build your own burger similar to the Chuck Box in Tempe. Also ordered a side salad and asked for dressing in the side. Brought the salad and it was drenched in blue cheese. When I said I asked for dressing on the side she said she didn't hear me say that. My husband added bacon and chilies. Burger came without bacon. When he asked where was the bacon she replied she didn't hear him say that. Both of us have loud voices. My meat was dry and over cooked. Seemed like patties were frozen not fresh. Won't go back for burger night. We have been there for other meals and were always pleased in the past. read more

It's okay for the backwoods, but don't expect much. Most of the folks in our large party seemed to enjoy their food. But I had a lobster which was one of the worst lobsters I have ever had. How you make lobster dry and flavorless is a mystery to me, but these folks succeeded. But nobody will go home hungry, since you get big portions and lots of side dishes. This place is extremely popular so you better have a reservation, unless you want to come at an off time. read more

What a horrible experience. We were there for 30 minutes and did not even get a glass of water. The waitress took our order and brought our salads with no silverware. We asked for silverware and the hostess brought 1 set for 4 people. She dropped it off wrapped in a napkin and I stated we would take care of it ourselves and all she said was she was working on it as she walked away and this is when we realized it was only one setting. For a steak house out in the middle of nowhere this place is great. My 8 year old son said the steak was the best he'd ever had. The waitress was great, and always available. The only negative I can think of is there are no to-go cups. read more

We were driving by and noticed a lot of cars out front, so we decided stop. We read the reviews and we expected good food and bad service. We got great food and great service all for a reasonable price. We shared a steak and it was one of the best I've had since being in Argentina. Just like in Argentina, the meat not only tasted good but didn't give us that heavy feeling we usually get. I am ashamed to say but I eat a lot of meat, so I know a good one. This is a good one. The steaks we had were exceptional. Service was attentive and friendly. Good crowd, clearly mostly locals ... always a good sign in my opinion. My only reason for not giving it a 5 star rating is simply how "tired" the interior is. The lights are kept low so that you cannot see how worn and filthy the carpet is. The place is need of a serious refresh .. do not get me wrong, I am all for quaint ... this just is not quaint it is just worn. read more

The problem with most steak joints is expensive and they never cook it to order correctly. DPS was in every sense of the word a classic steakhouse where they know exactly how to cook it. Plus the old-school atmosphere, relish tray, and very, very reasonable prices for what you get ($22 for a ribeye dinner) it's probably best value in Payson area. read more

I went there two weeks in a row with friends and the first visit I had to send my steak back because I ordered it well and blood was running out of it. We went back a week later and I decided to order my steak well done the same thing happened decided not to eat it and just take it home and cook it myself for left overs the next day. Also had to ask waiter for veggie basket and bread which comes with meal they just didn't bring to table until we asked for it. Probably won't be going back again! read more

As a fairly new Payson resident This is my favorite area dining establishment. Nightly specials are very affordable. Only down fall is that I assume they're trying to save electricity by keeping the lights so low. It doesn't look like much from the highway but they do a good job once you walk in. Would never go back. Not sure why they are calling themselves a steakhouse. Instead of a bread basket, they served a basket of individually wrapped crackers. The calamari was not cooked correctly and was rubbery, served in a red plastic basket. I ordered the ribeye for $22.00, for this price I expected thick cut, it was so thin! Never again. read more

Yesterday, was my birthday and I wanted Crab legs! Well, Diamond Point Shadows, did not disappoint. I have eaten at diamond point before and enjoyed my dinner immensely, but had never tried the crab legs. This restaurant offers curbside pickup, during COVID and so we phoned in an order. About 20 minutes later, we are eating crab legs at Star Valley park, while watching a mama elk and her babies Play, in a cloudy pre-storm surrounding, with a cool light breeze. The food was superb! Loved the baked potato, salad, and the crab legs were, large, sweet, and served with dripping hot butter. It was a perfect birthday dinner! Thank you Diamond Point! read more

Had the 8 Oz ribeye and 4 grilled shrimp. Truly one of my great meals. Also had a glass of "Top Shelf" cab which was delicious. Bread perfect, Potato perfect and yummy Roquefort dressing. The interior ambiance with rock wall and beautifully lit fireplace is the perfect setting. Order the sautéed mushrooms for $2 or Onions. This is worth the trip even from a considerable distance. Exterior appearance is very bland and doesn't do the interior comfort justice. If I wanted to be very picky I would have liked my plate warmed and the steak could have been warmer but was cooked perfectly.. This could have just been my waitress although her service was excellent. read more

Had my children all in one spot so we decided to do a family meal together in style. Went to diamond point and was so disappointed. We sat down and waited 10 min till we got asked for drinks and than had to ask a server for silverware and she rolled her eyes at us and said we were not her table and would b a minute. 10 min later we received than after ordering meals never received our bar refills and when food arrives we asked for rolls and they said we should of asked sooner, I order scallops and I took one bite and it was squishy and slimy, told server and she took plate away and than came back and said the manager took a bite of it and said it was fine and I would have to pay half of it. I was not going to pay 15.00 dollars for one bite after I told her how unhappy I was the manager stood behind our table because our kids saw and told her he would take care of my plate. Never talked to us to see if I wanted anything else or to apologize. I will never go back again and waste a family moment on a place that won't treat well! read more

Terrific steakhouse in the Payson, Arizona area. 4 different beers on tap - all micros including a hefe. Also a couple tapped big wine bottles. This place has been run by the Perna family since the 1960s and the owner definitely knows his product well. Check out the Wednesday all you can eat ribs, Friday fish fry, and Saturday prime rib. First time here and worst service and cooking I have ever had for the price. I have never heard of shrimp scampi without pasta! $18 for overcooked shrimp in butter/wine sauce...and a baked potato! Went to diamond point this past Friday to celebrate my birthday and both my husband and I ordered the prime rib. The food was very good the service on the other hand was very poor. It took about 15 minutes after we ordered water and soda to receive those items, I asked for salad dressing on the side and it did not come that way, we asked for extra napkins and didn't receive them until we asked another waiter. The waitress did not come back to the table to check on us until we were almost completely done with our meal and we asked for a refill on the water which did not come until she was ready to bring the check. Very impressed! The cook on the steaks were perfect and my salmon was delicious. The food was fresh and it was cooked with love. My husband and I ate here with our two children. They had a surprisingly extensive menu which included several choices of seafood and steaks. There was a children's menu as well that included the option of steak for $7 which included two sides and the entrees did as well. I just have to say all of our meals were so good, we gave our compliments to the chef! We were here visiting, so we had no idea where to go on a Tuesday night...and this was the only restaurant that was open. Thank goodness it was, because we felt like we hit the jack pot! read more

Great prime rib, crab legs, blue point shrimp

Up in this neck of the woods i.e. just below the Mogollon Rim in Central Arizona, prime rib is the dinner of choice. My brother who lives in Payson treated me to dinner at Diamond Point Shadows and it was truly great. The prime rib, baked potatoes, broccolini, salads, etc. were absolutely "top drawer". We couldn't have been more satisfied, and the portions were so big we brought home enough to make sandwiches for lunch tomorrow. The service was friendly and efficient without being fussy. I haven't had prime rib for years and what a pleasure it was...wow! The Crown Royal Old-fashioned was quite good, too! read more

Enjoyed an every with friends that are local to the area. Only serve from 4-9 each evening except Monday. Very dark so had to use our cell phones to see menu. Serve was spot on! Dinner includes salad and choice of side. Steaks where cooked perfect! Side of radishes, carrots and celery to munch on before dinner, which was refreshing. A bit expensive for the area.
