I ordered the double pork chop special tonight. It was very rare - unappealingly so. I don't need shoe leather, but rare pork is gross. Service was good and the menu looked great. Unfortunately, got a veggie trio and crab cake and was disappointed. The bbq Brussels were underdone Brussels with bbq sauce on them. Roasted cauliflower had a hoisin type of sauce that tasted like it came straight out of a jar (way too concentrated in taste). Roasted beets didn't have a lot of flavor. Added a crab cake which was pretty good (although I did get a small piece of shell) but, overall, the meal was pretty pricey and not very good. We met there with family to celebrate our grandson's 17 birthday. Where everyone was seated was I suppose the banquet area. My family was seated at two rows of tables in which one row was north and south and the other row east and west, but they didn't connect. Where we sat I could see the outside and every time other patrons came in, I was reminded of the 30 degree temperature outside. Also the people coming in may as well have been at my space to focus on what I was eating. After a while I noticed most in our party including our grandchildren continued to dine with their toboggans and coats on. Then after getting up to look around, I noticed on the other side the patrons being in pure comfort and even 2 dining at the fireplace area. These areas I noticed the manager (in which I asked for later) was all over with interaction. His name is Alan. My wife and I got take out because we couldn't enjoy our meal. Not wanting to put a damper on the reason we were there, I waited until after we sang the happy birthday song and then asked to speak to Alan. I told him they should have put a barrier up for us to have more privacy and the tables should have been connected. With all other things considered, the experience was awful, but the food is great. He apologized and said he wish he would've known and I told him that he would have if he would've walked to the other side. I don't discredit the food but we as patrons shouldn't have to ask for obvious comforts, but there I suppose we do. read more

From the moment we walked in the door we should have taken our business else were. The greeter was rude, even tried to take the couple that came in 5 minutes behind us before us. We were finally seated, I was looking forward to my meal because I had previously ordered it and really enjoyed it! Unfortunately once again I was disappointed due the Carolina Grilled Seafood Platter came out fried! I don't eat fried food!! So when the waitress came out with it fried and told me that was the only way it came! I just handed it back! It was not what I ordered I order grilled not fried! I ended up with the Grilled Salmon! Delighted another place in Winston is embracing meatless Mondays and loved the selection. Unfortunately what I selected was just ok. Heavy on the noodles but not on the vegetables, in my opinion, and there was no tofu in it even though that was listed as an ingredient on the menu. The ambiance is also just ok; we were seated right by a gigantic tv screen, and the room felt a little uninviting. The tables are really close together so be aware of that (someone in our party had mobility issues so it was challenging for her to get in and out easily). Service was ok; our entrees came out well before we had finished our appetizer (artichoke soufflé which I highly recommend!) and we had to wait on drink refills, check, etc. more than is typical. Our server was very friendly, though. Will be back on another Monday to try a different meatless dish, as those are hard to find, and will see if we can be seated on the lefthand side of the restaurant as it seemed more inviting. read more

What a hidden gem in Winston Salem! This is a place where the locals go. They have a ton of gluten free and vegan/ vegetarian options. Their make your own salad option rivals Chopt. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their steak dinners. I had the new vegan lentil curry tacos the last time I went and they had an amazing flavor. Ask for the hot sauce as they're locally made as well. It's kinda hard to find as the building isn't obviously marked, but it is a MUST try! read more

We used to frequent Diamondback a lot but returned tonight for the first in a while and we will not be back. The food was horrible. Chicken was dry and burnt and cold, pasta had no flavor, po boy was underwhelming and dry, ribs appeared to be covered in sweet baby rays, we asked for bread we got 4 slices- we had 5 people. Service was horrible. Waited 40 minutes for our food and it was not busy- now I know why. The waitress returned to the table maybe 2 times and that includes bringing the check- without anything to sign with. On top of all that they add 20% tip for parties of 5 or more- 3 of my 5 were children. Dont get me wrong I pay 20% regularly but when service and food are bad that is unacceptable. Unfortunately we went for my daughters birthday and left with a disappointed birthday girl. The ambiance is beautiful but thats all that it has going for it. Do yourself a favor and go to Village Tavern, Ryan's or Fratellis. At least the food will be worth the price. read more

Delicious food and amazing service! What more could you ask for? The bar side of the dining room is super cozy and our waitress was the sweetest. We split the signature salad, which was basic and still super tasty. I got the bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp - SO GOOD. My husband got one of the specials, a pork chop with blueberry balsamic glaze - ALSO SO GOOD. The sides that came with both were delicious and just the right portion size. We finished up with a piece of key lime pie that was so perfect I wished we had gotten two. We already have a reservation to go back next week. read more

Great neighborhood spot. Either side works for me - sometimes the left for a meeting or quieter meal, sometimes the right for a drink or game or family dinner. We always see someone we know and the bartenders remember your drink order. Menu is diverse and specials are tasty - plus, they serve zoodles! My family ate there last night. The service was excellent and the food was fabulous! We each ordered something different and each thought we got the best meal. We did something we never do and split a dessert. We had the pecan pie and vanilla ice cream. It didn't last long and we agreed that it was the best pecan pie we had ever eaten. My husband and I had supper there the other night. We were excited to have found a new place to eat we finally got seated after having to wait in our car for 29 minutes or so (but that is ok I get it because of Covid) anyway. We ordered the roasted Brussels so we started with that the flavor was good but the Brussels were not cooked near long enough so I ordered seafood platter GRILLED Mahi-mahi crab cake and flounder the mahi-mahi was great but the flounder was battered and fried a lot of batter which made the crust to hard to eat so I had to leave a whole mostly untouched piece of fish on my plate. The crab cake in my opinion was undercooked as well. My husband order the filet and potatoes but the server said they were out of filets. Had to wait a while to get tea refills. A case of a good meal marred by tone-deaf service. We had a reservation at 7 pm, and for some reason, were led to a table next to the wait staff's service station. Since the restaurant was nearly empty, and since I wanted a quiet, relaxed experience, I requested another table. The waiter moved us but acted as if he didn't understand why. The rest of the service was fine except for one thing: the waiter cleared the serving dish from our appetizer but not our small plates. Why would we want cheesy plates from one course hanging around when we were eating our entree? Honestly, being led to probably the worst table in the place when we had a reservation--and on top of it, it was our anniversary--set the wrong tone for the whole meal. read more

Diamondback has become our go-to restaurant. We like the bartenders, the music and the mood of the place. They have many creative specials in addition to a solid menu for carnivores to vegans. The food is always fresh, well-cooked and well plated. We specially like the large choice of vegan options and the fact that they nearly always have a vegan special as well; the kitchen is very flexible about special requests and changes. Since it is a neighborhood place with many repeat customers, you are not likely to run into loud or rude patrons. I do not claim to be an expert on all the dinner options in town, but prices, food quality and service are all excellent in my opinion. read more

It is a neighborhood grill in the middle of the college area, but rarely do the students ever visit it. And then I opened the menu. The food sounded good. Really good. But the prices? $26 for a pork chop? We are in Winston-Salem, one of the cheapest cities in the US. This isn't New York. I decided to give my wallet a rest and ordered a tuna wrap with a wasabi slaw that was sure to summon the pain only Satan himself could administer when I ate it. Sure enough, my eyes watered, my nose ran, and my bowels the next morning were as fiery as Hell itself. The couples dinner beside me had the pork chop. It looked so good. Who knows, right? Diamondback gets 2 stars only because I can't give 2.5 on this site, and 3 stars would be too much. The food is good, but for the ambiance, decor, and prices (oh my god), I would have expected much more. This place is pretty good, one of the nicer places to eat in WS. Its tucked away in this little neighborhood, very cute! They have this amazing shrimp and crab bisque as the soup of the day sometimes. That alone is worth going for. When we arrived my wife requested a booth table, the waiter told us that one we want has not been cleaned yet and gave us another one. After 5 min we saw other customers sitting on that same table and no one of the waiters came even close to it!!!! One of the menu items was not priced, so I asked and the waiter answered: $24.00 when we got the check she put 26, so I told her that there is a mistake here and she said that yes she did a mistake by telling me 24 but the real price is 26 and she did not change it on the bill!!!!! This restaurant suck. The waiter told me that the tuna is sushi grade. That was not even toilet grade. Very small tuna portion and the plate was full of other useless and disscussting stuff. My wife ordered ribs and u can't even chew the meet. Our son is 10month old, he made some noise (playing, being happy) we heard someone from the staff shuuuuushhhing him!!!!! I would not recommend this restaurant. It smells mold! Dishonest staff and not worth it at all. One more thing: they have drink specials on their website, si i mentioned the special for the day which was Wednesday: Michelob Draft Pints - $2.50 and the waiter told me that there are no specials for the day!!! My favorite neighborhood bar type place. The restaurant is divided into two halves. The "left" half is fancier, more like a restaurant. The menu is the same in both halves, but the left half has only tables and chairs. The "right" half is *my* half. It has the same tables and chairs, but it also has the square bar, with stools on two sides, and a fireplace with couches on a third side... it has 3 or 4 TVs, one a large screen, making it a sort of sports bar. The food is outstanding. Everything from steaks to burgers to fish to veggie trend of the month. As the restaurant is in the upscale Buena Vista neighborhood, the soccer mom's rule the menu, but there's plenty here for stockbroker dad and for Biff seeking relief from frat food. Yes, they have Red Oak on tap. If you have small kids, this is the best restaurant in Winston-Salem for food quality, room to stretch out, and linoleum floors ;-) read more

A nice local restaurant close to Wake Forest University. We started with the Artichoke Souffle, Nachos and Snow Crab Appetizers. I tried the North Carolina Crab Cakes, one of their specialty dishes. They were served on a bed of rice with asparagus. Others in my party ordered the BBQ ribs, tuna entree (it looked delicious) and grilled portabella sandwich. This was a great place, and I wish I could give 5 stars but it just wasn't quite up to my 5 star standards. The ambience was very nice, however when first walking in there is no hostess table or sign to wait for a waitress, its a bit confusing. Also The location is very random, but the food was good. So much to choose from, hot dogs to crab cakes. I ordered the shrimp and crab chowder and it was amazing, not too creamy or watery. Next, I judge places by salads. They had a nice list, but nothing stood out to me except for the filet mignon Napoleon salad. It was very good, but The steak was a bit tough to be considered filet. The greens were good but not quite my definition of mixes greens. Others ordered sandwiches, catch of the day, and salads and seemed to enjoy their meals without complaint. My only other gripe was that seating did not really seem to accommodate our 5 party because we had to squeeze three people on The Booth side of a 4 person table. Odd BC there were only a few other guests (maybe 5) and lots of open tables for 7pm on a Friday. All in all, good bang for your Buck and nice quality food I would recommend to anyone! read more

This is really two different places - the left side is more sedate with dimmer lights and less noise, and the right side is more lively with TVs and an active bar. I've been here 3-4 times in the last few months and the food has been consistently good, whether it be a fresh salad, creative sandwich, or fried oyster nachos (!)
