Why is it so difficult to get anything right? You asked for bacon you confirm there's bacon you get charged for bacon and you find out they never put bacon on it. Not even an apology or anything just oh. This is not the first time this is happened this is happened many many many times I don't know why I go back. Hoping this post will remind me not to go back. And I guess lettuce prices are sky high and times are tough. I don't think I got a tablespoon worth of lettuce on my sandwich. I think the sandwiches were ok, although I think I would like the ability to see the sandwich being made. We're probably spoiled in that regard, but I think it is what it is and I'd like to see the sandwich being built. Otherwise, the sandwich was pretty good, if a little too wet. Convenience was the purpose of this choice. I've had much better grinders but I've had worse. The online ordering thru YELP was a huge plus. I found the grinders lacked flavor which is hard considering I had an Italian. I was given a 40-50 minute wait time which made no sense because when I got there the place was empty. The macaroni and potatoe salads were not made on the premises other than to open the tub. They are commercially made and not good! Too much mayo but the pasta was perfectly al-dente. The large grinder was large, enough for 2 meals. Will I return, probably not. Jimmy John's is better. read more

I stopped in for lunch with admittedly neutral expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. The service was quick and friendly. The staff seemed genuinely interested in serving my family and me, which can be a rarity in a chain restaurant. I ordered medium sized buffalo chicken sub, with mozzarella cheese and blue cheese dressing, on a wheat bun. The sandwich was packed with flavorful buffalo hot sauce coated chicken. The quantity of chicken added to the value of the meal, making the roughly eight dollar price seem very reasonable, and not at all over priced. The only downside was that the blue cheese dressing was omitted from my order. Normally, this would be grounds for complaint; but, the hot sauce, and indeed chicken itself, caused me to forget I had ordered the dressing. I had finished half the sandwich before realizing this. I fully recommend DiBella's. Just be sure to inspect your sandwich before that first bite. read more

Came here 6/3/18 after working out. The staff is very pleasant, friendly, and they don't rush if you don't know what you want. I order a grilled chicken ceasar salad and it's by far the best salad I ever had. Didn't even need the dressing. The vintage atmosphere is amazing. I recommend this place. I fell in love with DiBella's when they opened their first location in Milford so I was uber-happy when they opened locations in Newington and Wallingford which are a little closer to home. I've never had a bad experience here. The food is fresh and the waitstaff is friendly. The bread is great so much better than Subway. The plain bread is soft and chewy and the whole grain is very hearty but still soft texture on the inside. The flavor also doesn't overwhelm the entire sandwich. Not sure if they cut their own meat but it's top quality and real not turkey based like Subway. Another great thing about DiBella's is that the portions are huge! A medium grinder is about a foot long and a large sticks out of the grinder sleeve by a good 4 inches. It's jam packed with meat and veggies of your choice. I usually split a medium with my kid or if I am eating by myself get a small. It is very filling. You can round out your meal with chips and a drink and a la carte items like macaroni or potato salad, a whole pickle and chocolate chips cookies. A few people said DiBella's is a little pricey but like I said the portions are huge and you get more than your monies worth! read more

Ummm.....No. This place is a complete train-wreck. From the moment you walk in you're immediately hit in the face with loud noises and echos. The counter is huge and you feel like you're on line for an airline ticket. The people behind the counter all scream at you and you have to look up and down the counter to find out who was calling you over. The guy who helped me was not very friendly and kept asking me to repeat myself because it was so loud in there he couldn't hear me. I quickly decided what I wanted because I felt very rushed. I got my sandwich and made the journey down to the cash register. I sat down and it actually looked good. It was stacked with meat and all the toppings I asked for. But the good stopped there. It tasted like a sandwich from the vending machine. Meat loaded with fillers and preservatives. It was so rubbery and nasty. I didn't even know that they grilled the sandwiches since I wasn't offered that. But I don't think it would have helped at all. First and last time I'm going there. Nasty. After driving by the brightly lit neon sign many times, my family decided to pop in for an impromptu dinner on a Monday evening. Always up to try a new (to our area) fast casual concept. Place was unsurprisingly quiet for a Monday evening. Would imagine a sandwich shop gets most of its business for lunch hour. This actually worked in our favor as the menu and ordering process is a lot to take in for someone new and could have turned into a bad experience with a confused 6 year old in tow. You walk in and immediately get routed to a walk-up counter with wall menu's with lots of words and small print. There are lots of meats, cheeses, breads, condiments, and sandwich sizes to choose from. I believe they actually provide the option to make up your sandwich from any of the mentioned options. For a control freak, this must be awesome. For someone just looking to order something quick and easy with a 6 year old, I need some tasty options presented clearly, easily and quickly. Will also say that everything appears to be a la carte. Perhaps there are combo options that would include drink and chips, but hard to find on menu. So your $6 - $7 sandwich coupled with a $2 min drink and $1 - $2 side will run you a pricey $11 sandwich meal. Going in I figured the extra money would mean a better tasting sandwich... I got the Chicken Philly and my wife got a Meatball sub. My Chicken Philly was kind of bland. Will say that the Sesame sub roll was good, but the ingredients were similar to what I could get from Subway. From the vibe of the place, I was expecting to be taken to my days in Philly and was disappointed. My wife rated her sub a meh as well. It was OK, but had better. My son was actually psyched about his ham and cheese, fruit cup, drink box, and cookie meal. So potentially a good place for a quick meal for a kid. Place itself was very clean and new. I liked the whole early 20th century sandwich shop vibe they are going for. Will I be back? I might give them one more try and go for a cold cut option next time. In a state drowning in sub-par chain grinder shops, lend it to upstate New York-based DiBella's to break up the Subway-crammed corridors of Connecticut with its grinders that actually deliver on more than loaded lameburg lettuce, goupy sauces and falsified $5 lures that end up costing $9. Though first tried in Milford, CT (DiBella's first CT shop), Newington has its own and through a handful of visits since opening, still holds up as a recommended, solid sandwich spot. The substance of a "small" here will far exceed and fulfill the self-hating need to revisit any 12" misery sandwich you might find a half a mile marker each way on the Turnpike. Store atmosphere is richly themed on the founding years of the chain's 1920's origins with wonderful ragtime jazz to transport you away from the depressing noise of today's endless Beyonces and other forgettable FM noise. No liquor served here though wouldn't put it past the builders to have built some kind of hideaway beneath the joint. Meats used are not Blimpie-sliced on-demand but fresher than the lowest-common denominator cheap one or two slices given at Subway though the frequently tough roast beef needs to be coupled with Au Jus (or offered thinner). Toppings and other pile-ons are obscured by a tall counter which would be better served if visible. Many grilled offerings are performed on an actual grill! Go for the Cowboy or try a turkey bacon on any of the breads offered. First timers should tred simply with the sesame seed signature, caution a medium and beware a large. read more

I got tuna with pickles, lettuce and black olives. Didn't taste like anything at all. The cooking was bomb and the restaurant was clean with good seating. Food came fast at the lunch rush so that was impressive. I think I need to try another kind of sub there maybe it will be better. I got the cheesesteak sandwich on white. The bread was delicious! I was very impressed with the sandwich as well. The small was HUGE. Very generous portions. I do agree the ordering process was kind of odd. I didn't know what I was doing and I was the only one there so it was pretty obvious. I have been here three times now and have had a great experience each time. Twice I have dined in, and the third time, got sandwiches to go. The seasonal Maestro (sausage and peppers) is excellent and is a shame it's not offered year-round. The Buffalo Chicken is awesome, as is the Meatball Sub, and the Cheese Steak is mediocre. I've also had a Veggie, which was very good. The bread is very good, and their chicken definitely seemed real - I often avoid chopped chicken breast because it's often fake, but DiBella's was not bad. The service is great - I've never had to wait for very long, but it can be confusing and slightly overwhelming with the number of employees they have making sandwiches. If you are looking for a great sandwich, I would definitely recommend coming here. I know I'll be returning. read more

Place was dead, 6 people working including the manager, who was on her cell phone talking so loud everyone there was part of the conversation, three people were in the back also talking and joking around, which left 2 actually working I asked for a second to figure out me and the family's order and they just skipped us and took the next few people in lines orders, which in my opinion was rude to begin with, either way we then had to wait 5 minutes to get our order taken, the whole time manager still talking on her cell phone. I wrote a letter to Dibellas corporate and received a reply a few days later from the ne manager about how sorry he was and that the problem was addressed, and attached was a coupon for a free sub, icing on the cake, nothing was attached to the email, I let him know, never heard back... The subs are good, pricey, but good, service in ALL the CT Shops I visited has been lacking greatly, a lot of people comparing this place to Subway in these reviews, at least Subway trains there employees and is able to serve and ring in a very efficient manner. read more

I walk in, and Im struck with how dark the place is. There is little to no decor at all, it looks like a fricking basement with a subway shop on one wall. I order a sub with tomato, lettuce, and bacon, and olives. The submaker/chef was talking to me in a rude manner. They made the sub SO FUCKING SLOWLY!!!!! "Anything else..." I shook my head. THANK GOD I CAN EAT NOW!!! Turns out there was no bacon in it, but they charged me an extra dollar for it. My Shlong was bigger than these subs, It tasted HORRIBLE!!! I wouldn't feed this to my dog! The bread was oddly cheesy and had a metallic taste, the tomatoes were lets just say "Past the expiration date" and the lettuce had no flavor at all as there was less than a teaspoon of it. I went up to the counter and asked them to refund the dollar i was charged for the bacon. They said no, "excuse me there is no bacon on the sub!" They told me to bring them the sub, I did and they pulled out 1 single itty bitty shitty piece of bacon from under the lettuce... "There it is." I set the sub down and left... This place is what Subway wishes it was. Generally the same deal, you are in a line, order a sub, and pay for it. It is a little bit different than Subway in the sense that you get your own personal "Sub Maker", don't know what else to call them, and they just list off a bunch of possible ingredients that you either take or decline. The quality of the food blows any other sub place around out of the water. Quiznos, D'Angelos, Subway, do not compare. The bread is crisp on the outside, soft on the inside like it should be. The Multigrain tastes like Multigrain, not like Multi-cardboard. The ingredients are substantially more "fresh" than other places that harp on their "freshness". The meat is delicious, and they are not stingy at all with the toppings. It is roughly $9 for a Large sub, it is unwise (just like most places) to get the combo and end up paying 2 bucks for a drink. The Large subs are LARGE. You will likely be satisfied by just half and keep the rest for later. You are paying a little more for a LOT more. The restaurant itself is clean, should be no issue with eating inside the establishment. read more

This Dibella's on Berlin in Newington CT is one of the worst place to order from. We are a doctors office that place big orders from them all the time, we never get everything on the order and when we call back to inform them of what's missing from the order, we get the worst customer service. Today was the end of the road for us ordering there, we receive only half the our order and got the worst attitude on the phone when we called about the rest of the order. The delivery person had a bad attitude when she delivered the missing order. We asked for extra dressing and the extra dressing was in a plastic bag leaking all over the other items. And still we did not get everything on the second delivery. We will never order from this Dibella's. read more

I have driven by this place at least a hundred times and wrote it off as just being a subway rip off but boy was I ever wrong. First off the bread is amazing. Having grown up around several Italian deli's I was quite impressed with the quality. Secondly the meat was great quality as well. I would say 3.5 stars is about right for this place. It's way better than subway, but that's no saying much lol. I've been to dibellas a couple times and signed up for their email club which got me a free small grinder. Most of the emails they send though have no coupons or deals. Today I ordered a meduim steak and cheese with peppers and onions and got the combo with chips and a soda. I'll give them credit for having a good chip selection, I love kettle cooked chips. They also have lemon sitting out for tea or soda. Most places don't do that. As for the grinder, it was good, I really like their bread. However, the grinder could have used some more meat. I know with the deli meat grinders like the godfather you get a good amount. I had no problem placing my order and the food came out fast. At 12 dollars with tax for the grinder, chips and soda, it is expensive, but not horribly overpriced. read more

As close as you can get to a Wegman's sub in CT. Great meats and made to order. The Godfather blows the roof off of Nardelli's Italian (and their bread is never stale like Nards), and you can't go wrong with any of their hot subs (especially the Chicken Philly). It's all made to order, so if you don't like it you probably put something on there you shouldn't have. read more
