Have passed by here numerous times, so when Mark C and I needed to grab lunch on the way to our campsite, we decided to stop in and see what DiBella's was about We arrived and the store was jamming - they seem to be doing a very robust lunchtime business with everyone from business people to construction workers grabbing a bite. We stepped to the side and perused the menu. DiBella's is set up with a long counter and had about 7 or 8 employee ready to take your order. As soon as an employee was free, you are called over to place your order. You have your choice of three different types of bread and three sizes to choose from. Hot and cold sandwich options are available for purchase. I love that you don't have to worry about employees bumping elbows while trying to fill multiple orders and all trying to grab the one container holding the tomatoes. At DiBella's your "sandwich artist" creates your sandwich for you and you alone. I also enjoyed the fact that beside each employee is a listing of all the condiments available. The employee that waited on us was very pleasant and did not bat an eye when I said "load up the veggies on that sub". After the sub was made, you take a quick walk to pay and if you want, add "chips and a drink" to make it a combo. And here is one of the BEST THINGS EVERY - ONE OF THE SODA FOUNTAIN OPTIONS WAS REGULAR AND DIET DR. PEPPER. Such a rarity on the East Coast. Even if the sub was bad - they would get stars for this. The sandwich held up well during the hour trip to our destination and once unwrapped and I dug in, it was really, really good! This is my go to spot. It's never too crowed and the sandwiches are phenomenal. I always get a turkey sandwich on everything bread (yes they have bread with all the seasonings of an everything bagel!), roasted red peppers, their special oil, and a mix of veggies. Soooo good! Their bread is amazing, the ingredients are always fresh, and the staff is always friendly. I also like how the vibe reminds me of a 1920's diner. It's got old school pictures on the wall, oldies music playing in the background, and tables set up diner style. I recently ordered food to be delivered at home by a third party. The delivery person was great! I ordered a chicken blt salad and it was ok. I was impressive the bacon was fresh a and good quality. I've heard about this place for a while now so finally decided to try for lunch. Got the "godfather" sub and have to say for this place being a chain restaurant it was very good! It's basically Italian combo. I probably should have gotten small, medium is pretty big just for lunch, but really tasty and generous portion. Roll is amazing I think that was a huge part of sandwich. They have 5 roll options and I wanna try more. All 5 Looked amazing. Place is clean but one thing I read prior to stopping here from other reviews was the staff was rude and wasn't friendly. This was somewhat true. Giving a 3 for service. Did not even eat my sub yet.... 5 people working. 3 subs in my order 2 made quick... 3rd(chicken BLT) that took over 10 mins. While all workers stared at us and never asked what we were waiting on. Noticed 5 mins prior the worker placed a sub in the BOX WITH THE PAGERS -EWWWWWWW???? Like this is 100% germ season. Basically, it's a higher end Subway, but this particular location had a lot of issues. We arrived around 6:00 on a Saturday night and we were the only ones in line. Immediately as you walk in there is a sign that says something along the line of "Line forms Here." However, this sign is so far away from the counter I walked right past it because I wasn't looking for a sign to tell me to wait ten feet away for someone to call me over. Oopsie. This could be why we waited an inordinate time for someone to acknowledge our presence. This brings me to the next point, there were no less than eight teenagers working and they were all completely rude. Like they were acting weirdly annoyed at having to make a sandwich order. It also was completely unorganized. No one could figure out who was supposed to making what, who was delivering the sandwiches to the table, or who was bussing/cleaning. There was some random employee just sitting in the customer area looking at her nails. This is in addition to about another three employees who just were standing around behind the counter. As a speech therapist, it was almost painful for me not to go over to the workers and ask them to use their "inside voice." Everyone was screaming at each other. Sandwiches were okay...my tuna was pretty tasteless and they were out of the bread I originally ordered. I also thought the prices were on the high side. A little over $20 for two sandwich meals. Probably would not be running back to try this place out, when I am completely comfortable with available "$5 footlong" options. read more

Food is fantastic. If it wasn't I wouldn't come in again. Not sure when it became unfashionable to be friendly. I walk in, greeted nicely by someone preparing bread. That's pretty much where the friendly atmosphere ended. A woman slowly walks over to the middle of the counter to take my order. I assume that's what she was there to do, I can't be sure because she didn't greet me in anyway. She then barks my order over the the woman at the grill. Luckily, I order the same thing every time I come, so I know the details she needs. Then I slide over to the register to pay. Not sure how she knew I was there, she never looked at me. She took my card and swiped. She must have been really tired. She couldn't be bothered to stretch and hand it to me. She draped her hand over the registers and dangled it for me to reach. Sounds like I'm griping about meaningless details, but it's getting to be more and more rare to be wowed by pleasant service. DiBella's is like a glorified version of Subway, but they have sesame seed bread. I ordered the cheesesteak and it was very yummy, but it took forever to make. I was told that they do not have microwaves and everything is made to order. The ambiance was old-fashioned (in a good way) because there was no TV. I will say, based off the reviews here, I walked into the door of DiBella's Subs a bit nervous. However, both my husband and I were really satisfied with our subs. We got an Italian and a Philly Cheesesteak. The Italian had a good portion of meat and an appropriate amount of veggie/toppings. His Philly was nice and hot and the meat was good, not stringy or chewy at all. However, I do take exception with the phrase "the best sub you'll ever eat" that is written everywhere. This was not, by any stretch of the imagination, the best sub I've ever had. It was ok. It satisfied my hunger without causing violent food poisoning. I did not regret eating here. Definitely better then subway but at this price I think I actually prefer Quiznos for their toasty hot sandwiches. Clean place, service was fast although some of the employees seemed to have a disagreement on who is supposed to do what, also they seem to forget that because its an open kitchen everyone can hear their conversations... Just because you turn around to make my sandwich We can still hear you talking about getting high last night... I don't judge what people do outside of work so long as you are wearing those gloves while making my sub, but some people might. Parking is decent and the location is great. We stopped here after grocery shopping at Stew Leonard's. We were hungry and this place smelled pretty good from the parking lot. Overall, we were disappointed. We both ordered medium chicken philly sandwiches on the original bread. I have to say that the bread was pretty tastless along with the chicken. The only things I could really taste on the sandwich were the pickles and banana peppers. The chicken was not seasoned and was very rubbery. I ate a little more than 1/2 of mine as did my hubby. The fountain soda syrups were a little off because my diet soda tasted just like cherry coke and it was very sugary. With other options in the area, I'd definitely go with another option. Stopped in here today with great expectations, and was somewhat disappointed. The sandwich itself was very good. Fresh ingredients, good flavor, etc. I have to agree with other reviewers though - the ordering process is kind of confusing, and you do feel a bit rushed since you have someone asking for your order immediately. I have to admit I was a bit flustered, and I probably would have gone with one if their special sandwiches if I had more time. I should also note that the sandwiches are HUGE, but I had no idea of this before I ordered. A small is more than enough for a standard human during lunch. DiBella's is situated in a newly constructed plaza over by Sam's, Stew Leonard, Toys R Us, LA Fitness (older establishments), Starbucks, Chipotle (newer establishments), etc). Thus, it is so conveniently located and boasts a nice lot of evenly spaced parking spots (hey- parking is important)! After a long day grocery shopping and trekking the gym, H and I were HUNGRY. It was near dead when H and I went in. There were a number of employees behind a counter and seated were a group of senior ladies roaring over something hilarious (good sign if you ask me any). The eating area, and most importantly the restroom, looked clean and tidy overall. As a couple who'd never been into such an establishment (there are no DiBella's chains in Massachusetts where we're from), I describe this place as a step up from Quiznos. Also, we had absolutely no idea what to order, but the order-taking-girl was kind. She let us bicker amongst each other as we took 15 min to decide what we wanted! I ended up with the Cowboy grinder and H ended up with an Italian roast beef sandwich. My grinder was good and the thickly cut bacon was delightful. H's sandwich was better than most. How have I not reviewed DiBella's yet? Being from Rochester, DiBella's was "the" place to go for subs. When I moved to Connecticut, I was pleasantly surprised (ok, ecstatic) to see a DiBella's on the Berlin Turnpike! We immediately had to try it, and last weekend we stopped here for lunch again. We split a large sub ($10), which was more than enough for two people. If you go here, this is what you need to order: -An Old Fashioned, Italian Assorted, or Godfather (basically anything with the Genoa salami in it) -Pickles and onions as toppings -Their own house-made oil dressing -On Everything bread Seriously, this is the best sub ever. I may be buying into the marketing, but I do believe that DiBella's fresh bread is something special compared to most other sub shops. Subway doesn't even come close. You'll pay a bit more, of course. $5.99 gets you their "small" sandwich, though it is anything but. Very hearty bread. Real meat. Good veggies. I was stuffed by the end of my "small" sandwich, and I didn't even have a bag of chips with it. When in Rochester and you need a sub - you HAVE to go with DiBella's. So what happens when you're in grad school in Western Mass and you are just CRAVING DiBella's. It is right before your comprehensive exam and you need a little piece of home and some of the amazing signature oil and loveliness that you can only get at DiBella's. Solution? Roadtrip. Yes, I did drive 90 minutes to the closest DiBella's to me (just a shade closer than the Albany store and I didn't have to pay tolls so this location worked best). I got there around lunch time on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. The employees were all super nice, talked to me about my day and all of that as I ordered. The sub didn't let down and the little slice of home was found, albeit in Connecticut. The only thing that I would change about this location is to put it in the ROC but what good would that be for me when I need a fix in grad school? read more

Service was quick and staff was friendly. Sandwich was good however I don't like how they make it. All of the stuff you want on/in your grinder is packed all in separate areas. So the lettuce is packed towards the center so when you bite down you get the meat or whatever and not "everything". There are 4 types of hearty breads in 3 different sizes. Along with different classic meats and rare choices; good selection of cheeses and many vegetables to add onto you grinder. There are several types of sandwiches that you can request from the board or simply make your own; I usually make my own and choose 3 different meats. They have your traditional sandwiches but I enjoy that there is a wide selection of meats to choose from. My one sad face about this is that you can't have your grinder warm/toasted; that would make it perfect. You can get hot sandwiches such as a philly cheese steak or other regular hot sandwiches but I would enjoy the custom made sandwich warm. Dang, their cheesesteaks are good. Perfect, freshly grilled thinly sliced steak. Extra cheese is a must. The bread is nice and soft and kind of tastes like a bagel. It's not a traditional Philly cheesesteak roll, but it definitely does the job. I've heard their cold sandwiches are delicious as well. The sandwiches are a good size. The medium is equivalent to a foot long sub. The large is giant! The inside of this place is huge. It's well kept and clean. The service is super quick! read more

I agree with most of what the fellow Yelpers are saying...it is almost like a higher end Subway. A big difference tho is that DiBella's actually gives you meat and cheese on their grinders instead of having a loaf of bread with a hint of meat and cheese. I've had the Cheesesteak and, my go to staple, Ham & Cheese. If you get a large, it can probably be stretched into two meals. I have enjoyed both sandwiches I have had their, and would give it a 3.5/5 stars, but there wasn't anything of a wow factor to give them a 4 star. I think something they need to do in order to succeed is start introducing weekly or daily special subs. read more

I made a huge mistake getting a medium, it was so big, but it was delicious I ate the whole damn thing, 11 bucks got me a medium cheese steak, pasta salad and a drink. First time customer and the overall experience was pretty bad. I called at pickup spot, they said they'd be right out. I waited 7 minutes, no delivery. I had to go inside to restaurant to get the food. Manager was unhelpful and, frankly, somewhat snarky even though I just asked if the order was ready. BTW, there were 4 customers in the restaurant....1 at 1 table, 2 at another table and 1 at the order station. There were 6 employees behind the counter. Very, very poor customer service. To top it off, I get home, no chips or extra pickle that I paid for in the 'meal' order. I have a meeting at work so didn't have the time to go back in. Bread was delicious but the overall sandwich, for the price, wasn't worth it. Glad I used the 50% first time discount to order 5 meals for 1st Responders. At least some of the money went to help others. After this first experience, I'm hesitant to try DiBella's again. read more

Will never order from this place again! Worst customer service I've ever encountered. The office I work for has ordered from here a number of times and every time they deliver our stuff, majority of our order is always left out. Whenever we call back to let them know that we are missing a lot of the stuff we've paid for we always get a nasty attitude from the employees. Today is the last time we will be ordering from them. Upon returning with our missing items the delivery girl was EXTREMELY nasty and handed me a bag with all the dressing spilled out all over everything. I also overheard Chelsea, the lady who took our order say to another employee "I'm never taking their order again, this is ridiculous." Why is it so difficult to get anything right? You asked for bacon you confirm there's bacon you get charged for bacon and you find out they never put bacon on it. Not even an apology or anything just oh. This is not the first time this is happened this is happened many many many times I don't know why I go back. Hoping this post will remind me not to go back. And I guess lettuce prices are sky high and times are tough. I don't think I got a tablespoon worth of lettuce on my sandwich. I grew up in Rochester, NY so I am very familiar with Dibella's. I have been to many locations, from Michigan to Ohio to New York and Connecticut. These are the best subs in the world. The bread is baked fresh on site and is fantastic. It can standup to the plethora of toppings that are piled on top of each other. It can also stand up to the famous Oil. I tend to go for the classic deli meat subs, but have not been disappointed with the chicken and other types of subs. I usually get a large and it will last for two meals if I can stop myself from inhaling the entire thing. The stack of meat you get is gigantic. You can't go wrong with any of the toppings. The hot peppers are spicy, perfect if you want heat over the other flavors. I always get my sub grilled; it is the only way to go in my opinion. I strongly encourage you to go. The only downside is the counter staff at this location does not seem to be up the usual standards I have experienced at other locations. My last visit there were some ordering issues. I am not sure if it was the staff person's first day, but my sub had to be disassembled to be grilled despite saying grilled multiple times through the ordering process. read more
