NYPD is probably Rocky Hill's best kept secret. From the outside, the restaurant is very unassuming. You expect, like the other establishments in the plaza, to find a small cafe style restaurant. When you walk in, you are surprised with fun decor and spacious dining area. Everyone who has gone with me says the same thing "I would never expect it to look like this based on the outside." As for food, they have the Best Reuben sandwich in Rocky Hill. Fries are crispy and price on point. Every meal I've had there has been great! The only downside is table service during lunch is very slow. So make sure you have a full hour to burn if you go for lunch. read more

So happy I finally caught this restaurant when they were open! I'm now making an effort to get out of the house early to catch them. Firstly, this restaurant is bigger than it looks! Secondly, the latte, cocktail & mocktail options are amazing, along with the many many options of food. I've heard that food from restaurants with large menus are mediocre...this DOES NOT apply here. My party of 2 tried breakfast & lunch options. Both were fresh & so flavorful, especially that homemade syrup I had with the French Egg Holes & Cinnamon Roll Pancakes (3). The home fries came out & were seasoned to perfection. Also, not 1 hard potato to be found. The over medium egg in my thick french toast was actually medium! And they gave me the wholes that were cut from the center of the bread. The pancakes were so fluffy & the icing delish. Tasted exactly like a cinnamon roll. We also ordered 2 different mimosas. The cranberry & the classic. Both were made crispy cold, with quality juices & came garnished. The Salted Cinnamon Mocha Latte, was velvet. It wasn't overly sweet, it wasn't watery or overly bold. I was surprised about how tall the cup was...I drank all of it. It wasn't served scorching hot, so I could sip right away. The Greek Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup was lovely. Typically, soup is watery & looks like it was the last bits, but this had chunky meat, the broth had flavor with hints of lemon. You could see the herbs. This didn't scream, I'm from a can at all. The service was also nice & the waitresses didn't mind that we couldn't make our decisions right away. She & her counterpart offered suggestions & were very kind with checking on us. For starters they offer ten specials including unusual choices like Croissant French Toast, Churro French Toast, and Crab Cake Benedict. They have 14 omelets, six scrambled egg platters, four Benedicts, six French toasts, four waffles, seven breakfast sandwiches, and a hash plate. Lunch choices are just as plentiful with a dozen platters including a Yellowstone and a Beth Dutton, plus enough salads, soups, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, and melts to make your head spin. We ordered two meals to go from their lunch menu - a California Quesadilla ($17) and a Fiesta Salad ($15) with added chicken ($3). They totaled $37.57 after tax. The quesadilla was a generous portion with plenty of cheese and diced chicken instead of the traditional shredded chicken. My salad came with beans, corn, southwest dressing, croutons, and a slice of Italian bread. The chicken upgrade was a good deal -there was plenty for the $3 add. The portions were pretty big, so we had plenty to divide in half and make 4 servings. The only downside of our visit was the time it took for our orders to come out- nearly 30 minutes. This was bizarre, because the dining room was not crowded, and I didn't see a lot of customers coming in for take-out orders. We were here for breakfast, and there was a nice variety of items to choose from. I always enjoy thought out foods with unique combinations and I was happy to try a different spin on an egg Benedict. I went here for breakfast with some coworkers and I ordered the croissant French toast. It was yummy, the fruit was fresh! My coworker ordered the American scrambler and said it was good. My other coworker whose vegan couldn't order much, so had to just order toast with veggies. The flavored lattes were alright, too much foam and not sweet enough. The service was slow even though there weren't a lot of people. We had to ask for our check multiple times. The ambiance was decent, wasn't too loud. We love coming here for breakfast and lunch. The service is quick and the servers are kind. The prices have been going up over the past few years but they have everywhere. There is always nice music playing. This place is kid friendly with high chairs and yummy food for them. There often are older ladies eating at the restaurant as well who coo over your children. Great local nook for Breakfast & Lunch options. Unique breakfast menu items ranging from fruit filled waffles and pancakes to churro french toast Prime Rib omelettes and a few hefty salad options. The vibe is very mom and pop but i've never been able to figure out what's going on with the decor inside. It reminds me of a Cracker Barrel mixed with my Grandmothers coffee cabinets & collectables. Service has generally been good I always love to see an establishment staffed with some local young kids. We waited a while before someone came and took our food order but we both decided on breakfast . We waited a while and when we finally got our food my home fries were cold but my Greek omelet was hot and tasted good. My husband got eggs Benedict and liked his choice. Every time I go to NYPD (see what they did there?), I ask myself "Why don't I come here more often?" I live near NYPD. Everything I get there is very good. My takeout was ready when I arrived. Today, I got a mini Philly Omelet sandwich (sliced beef, onions, peppers, mushroom and American on a hard roll). The veggies and roll were fresh. It tasted good on its own, and I jazzed it up at home with a little KPop Kimchi Mayo. They have many great looking breakfast and lunch options. NYPD is offering inside dining now. It wasn't crowded when I was there and I noticed lots of staff mask wearing and hand sanitizer. They make an effort with the appearance of the place. 110% recommend New York Pickle Deli! I've been on the hunt for pumpkin pancakes and from Yelp & Facebook recommendations I found myself here! We were able to make a reservation online super easily but it also looked like the wait time wasn't too bad. I loved the whole vibe of this place- local diner with a farmhouse twist. Very cute! You know when the mugs are all different that you're in for a treat! The pumpkin pancakes were absolutely delicious! I have never had better! My husband ordered corned beef hash which was equally as amazing. The corned beef was clearly very fresh and not "mushy" like some corned beef hash could be. 110% recommend! I ordered a Belgian waffle with blueberries but first asked if the blueberries were fresh. I was told that they were. What I got was what looked like was a flat regular thickness waffle in 4 sections. The blueberries were the small wild kind but frozen and not even 1/4 cup mixed in the batter. With a cranberry juice the bill came to just about $20. The waffle was $10.99 and was charged an extra $2.99 for these blueberries. I came here for brunch with my Grandma, mom, dad and daughter and everybody's food was exactly how they wanted it to taste. The portion sizes are huge. All the food is fresh and yummy tasting. Havent been in a few years but stopped in for lunch today. Was just as good as I remember it and the staff just as nice. We all three ordered the corned beef Reuben DELICIOUS! Juicy, lots of corned beef plenty of swiss and dressing. Everyone enjoyed it. We all got potato salad so that's the only side I can comment on. It was good. Second time coming here for breakfast. 1st time I wasn't too impressed but it had been a while so I gave them a second chance and decided to come back. I'm glad I did because I was pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere wise, it's like walking into a thrift store, lots of old random stuff. For breakfast this time I ordered the breakfast quesadilla and it was delicious!! It had eggs, cheddar cheese, freshly cut avocado, chorizo sausage, tomatoes served with sour cream and a side of homefries. Very filling but the quesadilla was sooo good I highly recommend it. I really hope they keep it on the regular menu. As for the homefries they look good but lacking a bit of flavor. They have a good variety of food options. We went to NYPD for a Mother's Day breakfast and the place was completely unprepared. We arrived ten minutes early but were not seated for another 30. When we were seated we were not given any menus and had to ask to get them. After ordering drinks several minutes later, we had to try to flag down our waiter for maybe an hour before putting in our food. While waiting, we saw other tables complain about half of the people receiving their meals and the others not at all after almost an hour of waiting. Several other tables walked out after getting their drinks because no one had come over to check on them or take their order since seating them. Our food all came out at different and times and after getting 4/5 of ours we had to ask our waiter 5 times to bring the other. We spent 2 1/2 hours in the restaurant. This is a hard review to write. Let's start with the food. The food was very good, eggs cooked properly, my wife loved the bacon and for me the corned beef hash was good. Now the problems. The wait was not long about 15 minutes. At no time did anyone acknowledge that we were there, but once we were number one we did not wait long. Once seated the waitress arrived about 10 minutes later with many people going to and fro without a word. Our waitress was very nice, took our drink orders and they arrived quickly. Then we waited about 20 minutes for her return. She took our order and the food arrive in about 10 minutes delivered by another person so I assume they are using a system that once the food is up it gets delivered by anyone available. This is a good way to insure hot food delivered promptly when ready. So from arrival to food 1:15 minutes. I tried to figure out the system that they were using but the only thing that I could decide is they were throttling orders into the kitchen. During the hour and fourth five minutes we were in the restaurant it looked like they had two expeditors, 5 waitresses, one guy whose job was pouring coffee and standing around. So, the food is good, there seems to be no organization and the layout make the service people walk all over each other. If you go expect to wait, but the food is very good. read more

As long as you are prepared for a wait, you won't be disappointed at the New York Pickle Deli. A charming spot where the mugs won't match (who says they have to?) and there are interesting seasonal specials, this was probably the best meal we had while visiting Connecticut. I opted for one of the aforementioned seasonal items, the Pumpkin Stuffed French Toast, which was a healthy (or unhealthy, as it were) amount of delicious pumpkin cream cheese in-between top-notch bread, covered in baked apple slices. Really, the apple juices and the cream cheese were enough, you didn't really even need any maple syrup! The dish came with breakfast potatoes, which wasn't mentioned and I didn't have room to try, anyway. My dining companion had a breakfast scrambler that he didn't love, but he's pickier than Goldilocks, so I won't ding the joint on that result. On the way out, we grabbed a double chocolate chip muffin to snack on later, and that did not disappoint, either. I am obsessed with this place, their food and service is top tier. It's such a homey vibe, I feel like I'm going to my grandmas house for a meal and the staff treats you like family. Their food is incredible, their lunch menu and breakfast menu are equally delicious. The coffee is fantastic as well and they have a different flavor of the day every day. It gets pretty busy on weekends so I recommend making a reservation but they sat us without one which was awesome. Everything down to the coffee cups is so charmy. All of the servers came to check on us and everyone was so incredibly friendly. I heard it's under new owners so Im truly hoping they don't change anything because this place is perfect the way it is. No matter what you order here you won't be disappointed! A great local breakfast joint, they have the perfect options if your craving something sweet or savory. My friends are obsessed with the stuffed Nutella coconut French toast. If you don't have plans for the day, then definitely come here but if you want to spend over an hour at a breakfast place waiting to get your order put in then I would not suggest this location. The service was extremely confusing. Had several buses come up to us before the server actually did and the busters informed us they could not take our orders.
