Last night at Dicastos Brick Oven in Rome Erie blvd. It was the worst experience I've ever had in a very long time. The owners name must be named Richard cause he was a dick. He yelled at us because Ben was playing with his Matchbox car on his precious table. Ben got scared and cried his eyes out. Before that he was sitting there quiet and content. Happy as can be. Our first time here. They sat us quickly without reservations. The food was excellent and worth the wait and the servers were friendly.

Italian American fare in Rome ny. One of the better places to to eat in Rome DiCastro's is deceptively small. This is not necessarily a bad thing as you get a quaint hometown vibe when you walk in. The menu is adorned with a bunch of different types of food including American comfort, Italian, and bbq. I found the service to be pleasant and attentive. I ordered the pork loin sandwich which was topped with Italian greens and provolone. I also ordered the French onion soup. Both of these were not excellent but passable. I definitely plans on making a return visit to explore the menu a bit more. read more

Great service Great food and wonderful atmosphere. I had the BBQ brisket sandwich and it was cooked to perfection. The wife had the grilled chicken sandwich and again it was perfect. The fresh bread loaves are a nice touch and add to the uniqueness. The decor is fun and makes for easy conversation. Our server Corin was attentive and not overbearing. She was polite without pretense. The guys making the pizza were cordial and not stand- offish. This is what dining should be. The selection is great the quality of the food is great. I've never been disappointed in DiCastros. My friends often order pizzas and they arrive cheesy and hot. I have ordered the eggplant parmesan and it is exquisite! Good atmosphere if often crowded. I like a lit of room to move around so sometimes it can feel a little claustrophobic... but that's a good thing for them because that means it's busy! Service is always prompt. Thumbs up!! read more

Not a fan.... I was happy when I saw their sign advertising brick oven pizza. It is everything but what I was expecting for traditional brick oven pizza. The sauce was lacking flavor. I gave them a second try and eat a pasta meal, only to find once again not much flavor. While the portion size was huge the meal was not very tasty. For those of you that know me, you know I never post; however, tonight I am compelled to vent, at least for my own satisfaction. My wife and I went to DiCastro's tonight for dinner. We have obviously been there many times in the past. We arrived at 6 pm and were seated immediately. After sitting for about 10 minutes with no waitress approaching us, Mr. DiCastro pointed out to his wife that nobody had waited on us. She came over and took a drink order which she served herself. This was much appreciated. After sitting there until 6:20, a waitress finally came over and took our order. She never advised us about the specials, but took our order. At 6:45, we received a small loaf of bread. At 6:50, the appetizer came out. At 7 pm, 1 full hour after being seated, my wife's salad arrived. Now we sat, and sat, and sat. At 7:20, the waitress came over and said the kitchen was backed up and our dinner would be out in a few minutes. At 7:35, Mr. DiCastro came over and said our dinners would be out in 2 minutes as there was a "ticket jam." My wife told him she was ready to just pay for what we had and leave. He said they were plating up the food. At 7:40, an hour and 40 minutes after being seated, we received our dinners. We left at 8 pm, 2 hours for pasta and fish. Absolutely disappointing. First time trying this place as I'm rarely in Rome. Not too bad. The service was great. Everyone was really friendly. Quick. They make wood fire pizza here and you can see the wood fire ovens from where your dining. I decided to pass on the pizza and get some pasta as they have a build your own pasta option. The lemon, oil, and garlic sauce was pretty good. Really lemon-y. Just like I like it. The bread was amazing. Ordered an Old Fashion from the bar and it sucked per usual in this general area. The rare bartenders who can make an old fashion correctly are diamonds in the rough. Anyway, enough about my struggles with whiskey. An overall all alright spot to grab a bite. read more

They brought this negative post upon themselves. Ok. So. I Ordered a pizza from Dicastros Brick Oven in Rome NY. They botched the order by messing up ingredient placement and so I called wanting a replacement, prepared correctly. 15 minutes later, the delivery guy shows up, hands me the correct pizza and says to me. "We would like the first pizza back" Excuse me? What the hell?!? So, feeling borderline infuriated at this point, I gave him the old pizza (of which there were 4 slices left) and then called to speak to a manager. Keep in mind. My entire family was thrown off of our dinner. Not only interrupted by a botched order but also with a more than ackward interaction with their staff... "Why the hell do you want the pizza back?" I ask. "You need some kinda of verification from us YOUR order was messed up?" This guy just walked up to my door and said to my face, "We need to check if your a liar" Never ordering from DiCastro's ever again... I threw the replacement out.. First FYI they now accept cards so no more worries about cash. We ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and the pesto pizza (spinach, olives, roasted red peppers, artichokes and cheese) both were really good. I loved the pizza, my husband thought the crust was a little thick for brick oven style but still really enjoyed his meal. Quick service and adorable hostess who brings you drinks while you wait for your seat. Overall cant wait to come back and try other menu items!! read more

Last night we had the Pulled Pork Pizza special of the week and it was excellent. I like the vibe of the building. I was worried that the new addition would detract but it doesn't at all. Just flew in from Texas. I came to this restaurant because of the Yelp reviews. I must say it's the best Mac and Cheese I've ever had. A large portion cooked in an iron skillet with a ton of cheese. I plan on returning later tonight and trying something new for dinner. read more

We stopped in for a quick lunch and had 2 sandwiches off of the lunch menu, a eggplant parm and a chicken cutlet. The good was great, the place was clean and the waitress was attentive. The only downfall was she seemed to be the July person working at lunch time so she was very busy and ended up for getting our appetizer, but we didn't get charged so it was a wash. ....We went to DiCastro's Pizza yesterday 11-10-17. The food is fabulous! There was 5 of us there for lunch. The waitress brought us our drinks. Finally soda that is served is normal sized drinking cups rather than the big gulp size we get at other places. The waitress brought us two loaves of baked Italian bread fresh from the oven. The bread is soft on the inside and crusty on the outside. You can't ask for better bread! ....We ordered an antipasto salad to share. I ordered a steak sandwich with mushrooms, onions, peppers and melted cheese. It came with homemade potato chips. The steak was juicy, tender and tasted like honey with whatever rub they use to marinate it. Yummy! A friend of mine ordered a pastrami sandwich with a pasta salad. She said it was delicious. Another friend ordered a pasta special with a bowl of french onion soup. The soup was 'to die for' and the pasta great! Lastly one more friend ordered a sausage and pepper sandwich with melted cheese and onions. ....There were some leftovers which we took with us. The waitress was very accommodating. We appreciated that very much. We didn't order dessert as we were full from lunch, but I'm sure the desserts are as good as everything else on the menu. It is a quaint pizza restaurant with a bar on one side away from the main dining hall. The cute decorations on the window sills are delightful to see. ....We stopped there to visit with a friend who lives in Rome. We just came off of an Amtrak train and Dicastro's was recommended to us by our friend Dan. Food was 5 stars when bill arrived I paid with a debit card, when I received back the portion to sign and give tip I noticed a charge of $1.78, I asked the waitress what this charge was and she replied it was a charge to use a debit o credit card. No mention of this prior to paying the bill and also when she returned with the portion to sign. I fell I should have been given a heads up. Bad business practice. read more

If you haven't tried the pizza from here, you have to. Not many places have a wood oven to really give the pizza the unique flavor you get from it. With saying that the prices for what you get, especially for the pizza is beyond ridiculous. The quality is always fresh, and consistent. Most things are cook to order, which is respectable. The desserts are pretty good too. If I factored price into my review I'd give it a two. read more

We have eaten in and ordered take out, but today will be our last visit! I called our order in for a large pizza with 2 toppings and 1/2 with ricotta cheese. The girl who answered the phone was argumentative with me stating they did not have ricotta. I know they do because that is what we order almost every time.... so she checked and then told me they do. No problem so I told her again what we wanted she still got it wrong so I repeated myself 2 more times. Now we go pick it up my husband pays and then the man who makes the pizzas told him he never got the order so it wasn't ready. When we got home the order was still wrong so I called to complain and was avoided by Lisa one of the owners . Not the best way to conduct your business as an owner. This is the second time visiting. I was intrigued by the used meat sandwich. So I ordered it. It wasn't bad, but they really should tell you to watch out for gristle and bones. Fortunately for me the first bite came with some gristle so I ate the sandwich carefully. While eating I found a nice sized bone. So it tastes ok, but there are hazards. read more

My guess is when you go to a pizza restaurant don't order anything but pizza. That is what I thought while checked all previous reviews few minutes ago. Unfortunately at the time of our visit we were not that smart. On our arrival waitress told is that food is very good in the restaurant. Maybe it's truth, but only when another chef is on duty. My pork chop was undercooked and potatoes were overfried. My friend ordered jumbo ravioli and has not been impressed with them at all. He also ordered New England clam chowder. He told me that it taste good and it is definitely a clam chowder, but has nothing to do with the New England recipe. I can't complain about my salad. It was fresh and tasty. Will I go there again? I'm not sure at this time, but if I would I should be smarter and order pizza instead. read more

This was our second visit. I can't complain about the food, it's pretty good. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. We were seated at 5:30 ordered two pizzas, salad, wings and plenty of drinks. Drinks were slow. They forgot our wings and it took FOREVER to get their attention. However, that is not what pissed us off. Rather, it was that we were rudely, and passive agressively pushed to finish, with multiple, not so subtle hints that we ignored. Ultimately we were asked to leave because they had a 7:30 reservation they needed to seat. I have NEVER been asked to leave a restaurant for any reason, let alone enjoying my evening with friends! Went for dinner which was great, however, between our table and the cash register, credit card was lost, later found under the salad bar in the kitchen, this is uncalled for and cost us time which was important to us since an elderly parent was with a care giver. DiCastro's seems to be a bit of a hit or miss on food quality and service. I have been here over a dozen times. Hard to say what you will get. I guess that would be my complaint. When the food is good, it is really good, and love the idea of the wood fired ovens. most of the time our pizza has been black and burned on the bottom. doesn't taste that great like that. Beer is something i have stopped ordering.. weird aftertaste and flat. I normally order a draft on tap.. think maybe they need to clean the lines or something. I arrived on a bicycle, as I was riding with friends along the Erie Canal Heritage Trail. We really needed a great meal as the prior night we struck out. The owner welcomed our group with open arms and the staff were just awesome. The pasta is home made and boy did it taste that way! DiCastro's is an exceptional value with great food and drink. Good brick oven pizza. Tried the Greek and the Margherita both had very fresh ingredients which really makes a difference. The service was very good, and everything we ordered came out in a timely fashion. Had previously heard complaints on the crust but they must have figured it out because it was done perfectly crispy with a nice chew, the way only a brick oven can do it. Prices were fair, they do not take cards so bring cash (which doesn't bother me in the slightest what's the big deal?) Definitely will go again good food and cool atmosphere. read more

We found this place based on a recommendation for Chicken Riggies. Who wouldn't want to sample the different varieties in a city so known for it since they all say theirs very own is the best. We were told DiCastro's makes it a little differently than the others. Little did we know we were in for a very nice surprise. Unlike the other places where we have had chicken riggies, theirs to me appeared to be more exquisitely prepared. It has more of a culinary side to it that I didn't find in the others. Same can be said about the Italian Golumpkis and Jumbalaya Pasta. Unlike for the other reviewers, we found our server to be very helpful and friendly. She even helped us decide what to try without being annoyed and too pushy. With all this being said, I don't think it's fair to rate DiCastro as a typical Italian restaurant. I do agree for home-style or casual Italian dining, there are better places than this for food value. But for the taste of what they are offering, it definitely leaves a mark with me. read more
