We were given a coupon for Dickeys at our chiropractors appointment. I'd never heard of Dickeys before, so we decided to check it out. Inside, was clean and the condiments were well ordered. I was surprised that the drink was free with the meal. But, the menu was posted along the walkway to the cash register and the selection was confusing. It was to the point where we were just going to order a couple soft drinks when we met Sarah. Sarah had been talking with a couple of other guests and coworkers until she noticed us. She hurried over and started explaining how the ordering process works. I was really thankful for her proactive and professional response when she saw a problem. Explaining that we are diabetic, she helped us design our meal in a very health conscious manner. The food arrived while we were still getting our drinks. She was incredibly aware of all the things happening around the business and worked to keep the customers happy. We got the two meat platter with macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. It was all very well prepared and presented nicely. The place wasn't too busy on Friday mid-afternoon. Very pleasant. We and Sarah exchanged farewells and we left, happy and satisfied. We went to Dickey's today for lunch on our son's birthday (his choice). All four of us had the 3meat platter. Pulled pork, brisket, and regular sausage. My wife had beans and slaw for her sides, I had the French fries and fried okra, both kids had Mac and cheese and slaw. First the meats. Keep in mind that my wife and I grew up in the Southand I routinely smoke meats at home. With that said, restaurants make a lot of food and use production methods suitable for mass sales. So I do not expect a restaurant to have the same quality as what I make at home. Pulled pork- still had good moisture good taste and mouth feel. Good smoke flavor. Brisket- good smoke flavor but lacking an obvious smoke ring. A little dry but very tender. Sausage - good with a strong black pepper spice. The sides-my wife said the beans needed some bbq sauce added to them the slaw was very typical commercial slaw. Good slaw is not chopped but sliced. Slaw dressing was a sweet dressing and again, good but very typical the fried okra was battered when it should have corn meal. Regular sauce was good with a little heat. The sweet sauce reminded me of sweet baby rays overall I was very happy with the meal quality and we would go back. I would give Dickey's a solid 7 out of ten ( a very good score) read more

Great pulled pork sandwich. The sauces have a great taste as well. Wings are great, too. The only way the wings could be better is if the wings were a little bigger; they did seem small in size, but they definitely were large in taste! I use a rollator and the seating area is not handicap friendly, especially when busy! When the seating area is packed, it is very difficult to get to where you order. I actually just found somewhere I could sit and be out of others' way and let my husband order because it was too difficult to maneuver in a crowded restaurant. On the other hand, the fact that it is crowded tells you the food is good! We have eaten at the Coldwater Dickey's before. The Stadium Drive location is obviously newer and better maintained. Definitely will be back -- hopefully it won't be so busy when we visit again! Also like that the Stadium store has the "small" drink option. Ok so I love bbq foods, but I'm not one who can educationally critique them! We tried the 3 meat platter with the turkey, jalapeño cheddar kielbasa and the brisket. Then added a half pound of pork. 1st thing wrong in my opinion was the food was cold. I wanted hot steaming bbq meat! It want like cold cold, but room temp at best. The brisket was delicious (although I still think Barrets has it beat)- nice and juicy and extremely flavorful. The other meats were also good, albeit cold. The fried okra however- so delicious! I was glad to try new restaurant in town. I ordered 2 meat plate with 2 sides. Turcky and beef brisket with waffles fries and okra. The beef was beyond my expectations. It is delicious and tender. The turkey was good too. But the portions were small. I wished if i can have bigger portion with 1 side instead of 2 sudes with small meat portions. Waffles fries is good, okra is fine too. Right in Stadium Dr, this is a place to go if you are looking for good original Texas Barbecue. The one thing I liked is that you order by the weight, and you can order a combo, or buy as many different options as you like. I recommend getting the combo so you can try 3 types of barbecue and then choose the one you liked the most. They have a good taste and the sides they have are also good. I love the potato salad...so that's what I got. They don't have waiters, so you basically get your food, pat and head to your table. Prices are decent as well as the service. Why doesn't every fast food joint have these by now? - The dining area was clean, spacious, and easy to move around in, even though it was fairly busy. - The food, of course! I had the brisket & smoked sausage. Both were very flavorful. The mac n cheese was also very tasty although a little overly creamy for my taste. The coleslaw was also surprisingly tasty and fresh tasting! What I didn't like: - The roll that comes with your meal. It was SUPER dense and flavorless. A white hockey puck. - The loaded mashed potatoes. I don't know what was up with them but they honestly tasted like they had gone bad. Neither me nor my friend could eat them. - Portion size. I know BBQ in Kzoo tends to be a tad pricey, but I usually feel justified with my purchase. I felt the meat portions should have been a bit more generous compared to other BBQ spots in town, for the price. That being said, I will undoubtedly be returning to Dickeys in the future. After nearly killing ourselves waiting in line at the Drake Post Office (yes, we love the holidays), we decided, on this rainy, foggy late Saturday afternoon, to try out a new restaurant in town. The restaurant, like most chains, has counter service. The menu is displayed overhead, detailing the proteins, the sides, the drinks, and the prices. We were puzzled at first to whom we were supposed to speak to make the order (e.g., the woman standing at the register?), but we were rescued by the young man preparing the proteins. We listed what we wanted, he prepared the proteins, the young woman to his left prepared the sides, and the trays were sent to another woman at the register who took our money and handed us cups for drinks. Things went very quickly. I chose the brisket (sliced), the baked beans, and the macaroni & cheese. My girl chose the chicken breast, the Caesar salad, and the potato salad. I had the Big Yellow Cup while my girl drank water. It was explained to me that I could bring the cup back for free refills up to the end of the month and for $1 afterwards, if I were to return for subsequent meals. We tried the three sauces. I like that they are kept warm to hot in temperature. The Original was smoky, the Sweet was mildly spicy, and the Spicy was moderately spicy. By themselves, they were yummy. We tried our proteins both without sauce, and then later with sauce. We tried each other's proteins and sides. Without sauce, the proteins were tender and moist but very bland. There was no smoked flavor. With any one of the three sauces, the proteins were overwhelmed such that all we could taste was sauce. The beans reminded me of Bush's baked beans (a brand I do like in canned baked beans) and the macaroni & cheese had the cheesy smoothness and taste suggestive of Velveeta (a cheese substitute I'm not a fan of). My girl remarked that it was good thing she liked mustard because her potato salad was heavily cut with it. She thought her Caesar salad was entirely too warm. She thought that the salad being put in a cup rather than a plate made it harder to dress with dressing and eat. We thought the bread was doughy and tasteless. I have to admit that I was suspicious before I entered the building because, upon exiting our car, I detected no odor in the air typical of restaurants with smokers. Similarly, upon entering the building, I again did not smell anything suggestive of proteins being smoked. Usually, smokers create delicious odors that permeate everything. Their absence told me to expect that the proteins had been prepared elsewhere. The two employees who prepared our meal and the woman at the register were friendly and efficient. The two bathrooms north of the eating area were unisex. They were clean. A female manager walked around and asked customers, "How was everything?" I'm always puzzled as to the actual intentions of this kind of inquiry. Does the manager want real answers? Or is she making polite conversation much like when strangers ask, "How are you?" Having seen customers in other venues try to give genuine feedback to managers, and observing the managers responding with stone faced silence, I think a manager asking "How is everything?" usually results in generic answers from customers, which is what we gave her ("Good"). I think if a manager asked questions in the realm of "What was the thing you liked the most?" and "What was the thing you disliked the most?" and "Is there something that we could do better?" we might have given her more helpful feedback because we would have viewed her as genuinely interested. As two people that eat out a lot, we always, when we try out someplace brand new to us, evaluate on the fly whether the new restaurant will be put on our list of places that we will be returning to again and again. Did the restaurant feel welcoming? Did I get the meal I asked for? How does the meal taste? Did it arrive hot? How is the service? Was the tab totaled correctly? Is there something unique or special about the meal that I can't probably find somewhere else? Restaurants often have that one chance to make the list. It's an audition of sorts. So... The staff were attentive. The venue was clean and adequately lit. The three sauces were delicious enough that they'd have made cardboard delectable. But the bland proteins and uninspired sides were the deal breakers. There are other places we can go with our $26 and get a better meal. read more

I figured he was talking about doing them at home so I asked who did them. He said "the children". I figured he had the kids doing chores at home. Then he said, "Dishes are way below my pay grade. The children can do them." He was referring to his staff! Then after I acknowledged that I thought he was talking about his kids at home, he said he didn't do them at home either. Visited on a Sunday about 4:30. The place is set up like so many places these days where you have an order line and a pickup line. Our first impression is the very confusing menu board. Your eyes are overwhelmned with options none of which are easy to put together into a coherent order. There was something understandable called "Deal of the Day". Simple enough but then there "Meats" and other another list of entrees. How they fit together? It takes time to put it all together in your mind. So I went the easy way. When the greeter behind the counter asked what I wanted I said "Brisket Sandwich". He asked me, mumble, mumble. I could not understand him. I asked him, "Whats that?" He said again something, mumble mumble. I looked at my wife and asked her "What did he say?". "Deal of the day I think". Ohhhh. I only say this not to criticize people's enunciation but instead to point out the people representing your business should be able speak clearly to the public. The two sandwiches came to about $21 buck. Two sides were included. The mac and cheese was respectable. The cole slaw was fairly good but not earth shaking. I would guess they do not make their own slaw. The best thing about Dickeys was the flavor of the meat. Obviously their strong point. it was really good. My husband ordered for us last night and when the food was received I only received brisket, not the chicken and brisket I ordered. I was willing to look away from this error until we used GH tonight and my order was yet again wrong. Not sure who to blame but the cost of Grub Hub is too high to have continued errors. Getting the shredded was not the best idea, and I would definitely advise anyone to get sliced instead. The owner was there and saw our food, rapidly took it away and replaced it with sliced and apologized for the unacceptable amount of fat in the shredded. I was really excited to have another bbq option come to Kalamazoo. Even though Dicky's is a huge chain restaurant, I was still excited to try it. When I got there, there was a line that took longer than I expected to get through. Others have had this issue it looks like. When I finally got to place my order I noticed that there was no cooking equipment in the kitchen, just the small smoker. When I got to the cashier to pay, I asked her where they made the food. Her answer completely blew my mind. She said; "all of our sides come from a can." How can you call yourself a BBQ Pit and not even make your food in house? Even McDonalds cooks their own food! I was extremely put off by the notion of eating canned and bagged food. After I stayed to watch, the cashier was not lying. They were literally taking bags of mac and cheese and other sides and putting them in hot water and steam wells to heat them up. This was true for all of the food. For $30 I would expect the food to be fresh and made on site. Where do you make your food? Now to the food. The food was cold, all of it! The brisket, chicken, pork, and ribs were all cold. The ribs were so salty they were inedible. The pork and brisket had zero smoke flavor, and the chicken comes pre marinated and then baked. Not even smoked. Sausage comes pre done as well. Pickles were McDonald's style neon pickles. Gross. In the kitchen they literally have a fryer, a small smoker, and 2 electric burners. I have been to Texas several times and have eaten BBQ at all the good spots. How can you call yourself "Legit Texas BBQ" When you don't even make your own food?
