I have been driving by this place for years. I decided to try it on a Thursday evening about 30-minutes before their schedule closing time. Walking in the aroma of smoked meats permeates. That's a good sign. I ordered the three meat platter with brisket, pulled pork, and chicken. My sides were green beans and fried okra. That was easily enough food for two people. I was hungry and selfish. So I ate it all. All three meats were tender and had just enough smoky flavor to be eaten without bbq sauce. I wanted to sample their Spicy bbq sauce. Okay so with the experience that I have had the last two trips to this Dickey's I would normally offer ONE STAR but because they are new, learning, and the manager that I spoke to today was friendly; I will give them TWO stars. First trip I ordered online from the "Classic Sandwiches" section of their site (see photo) it didn't offer a way to select the "two savory sides" it promises. So I punched them in the notes. Arrived to pick up my order and guess what? the site is wrong. The sandwiches do not come with sides so be aware of that when ordering. Dickey's really should FIX THIS! Second trip basically the SAME ISSUE. This time I figured I'd brows the "Plates" section. They offer sides I believe the way they are intended. They are ALSO depicted with a drink. NOPE... WRONG. You don't get a drink even though you would think they would add a disclaimer or a note. (See photo) I arrived to pick up my order and noted that it was missing HALF of my order. I ordered two brisket sandwiches with two sides each, Cole slaw topped, and two sides of pickles and onions. I got one sandwich and two sides. I asked them to please make the second half of my order. Meanwhile my lunch hour is ticking away. After about 10mins they arrive with the second half. I checked the sides but did NOT open the sandwiches. I got back to the office and they were both missing the cole slaw and again they did not add the second order of pickles and onions. Now I'm just aggravated so I returned to Dickey's and waited for the manager. Explained to her the issue and she remade the order and was very friendly about it. She didn't offer to discount any of the order which I was fine with I just wanted what I paid for. I didn't bother to explain all the discrepancies on the website because now my lunch hour was over. The food is good here. Hopefully someone from that organization will note the online menu issues and fix it. Otherwise I suspect it will just vanish like the other 5 BBQ restaurants that have occupied that location. I won't order from Dickey's online until they do. read more

Got the 1/2lb brisket which was rather good. A warning is that you need to get the sauce because the brisket is rather bland. It was nice and a bit tender. I also got the pulled pork sand which. It paired greatly with the original sauce. Great place. read more

I just had a birthday party dinner catered by Dickey's Barbecue Pit and the food was amazing! We ordered beef brisket, pulled pork, Jalapeño cheddar kielbasa, coleslaw, baked beans, mac & cheese, and rolls. Even though I ordered within less than a week of the event, Dickey's staff were easy to work with and very accommodating to my special requests. Although they were short-staffed for the day, Roger, the manager, arranged to have the order delivered even in the inclement weather. The food arrived hot and on time, with serving instruments and sauces. Everyone went through at least two rounds of food, and we still had leftovers! All my guests left full and happy. I would highly recommend Dickey's Barbecue Pit! read more

We recently moved to the area, and were looking for a place for bbq. My first trip here last week was perfect!!! The ribs were delicious, and my wife was mad she did not order any! She waited all week to partake in her own rib plate. Its the 4th of July, and we were pleased they were open. Ordered a rack and a half, with a caesar salad and barbecue beans. Unlike the first visit, these ribs were dried out, and had way to much salt in the rub. We actually couldn't even eat more than a few of them they were so dry and salty. The caesar salad was great, according to my wife, but tiny (order the medium at least!). The barbecue beans were some of the best I have had. So, first visit gets a five, this visit gets a one, hence the two stars. To bad, thought we had found our go to place...Staff, at least the girl at the register, is great! Update on 07/13...Received message to email socialmedia@dickeys.com. Did so; never received reply. Update on 09/20...Emailed again, no response, all set with this place. read more

My husband & I ate there today and it was the worst bbq that we have eaten at a Dickey's. We won't be back there. We had The Monday special. The meat was greasy, hard & old tasting. The onion tanglers were hard & over cooked. The sweet tea tasted like the metal pot it was in. It has made me sick. We have eaten at other Dickey's and they were good but not here. read more

Being a master BBQ judge and a competition BBQ cook has probably made me a BBQ snob BUT the prerequisite to Brisket 101 is to know how to slice a brisket. I ordered the two meat special, ribs and brisket. Brisket was sliced with the gain, making it tough and chewy. The ribs we a meat mustache and way overcooked. My Pit Mistress had the pulled pork and it was OK, kind of mushy. The sides, green beans and Mac & Cheese, are from a can and tasteless. The roll was a dense piece of dough a ninja could use to take out an enemy. On the plus side, the place is clean, staff is nice and it is a welcome addition to the growing number of restaurants in the area. read more

Stopped here on the way home from a camping trip. I placed my order online and arrived half an hour later. Stood at the cash register for about 5 minutes before I finally asked the three individuals behind the counter, who had ignored me up to this point, if I could pick up my order. They weren't busy at all- there was no line except for one person in front of me, so I don't get the rude behavior by the Saturday lunch crew. They then acknowledged me enough to ask me to sign a receipt and then I waited another 5 minutes. This wouldn't be that big of a deal if the food were good, but the food was awful. I ordered a baked potato that was rock hard, literally inedible. I had to throw it away. I am only giving this place two stars because, at the very least, the okra and onion straws were fresh and edible. Additionally, the restaurant itself and what I could see of the kitchen was dirty. I've never had Dickey's BBQ until I moved here and if the other locations are like this one, I've been missing out! The Mac Stack and fried okra are delicious! We did an online order since we were on the road. When we arrived, we were a bit early so sat in our vehicle for a bit before going in to get our take-out. They didn't have our order. Ugh! So we waited another 10-15 mins while they put it together. Once we dug in, we found that the Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich came with an itty bitty side of coleslaw. If I'd known that, I wouldn't have made coleslaw one of my sides. But the ones that came with it were really too small anyway so I wasn't too upset. I'm not a huge fan of waffle fries either but they we pretty good. The Onion Tangier's were just little bits of fried onions which weren't great. But, on to the BBQ! The sandwiches were both stacked high as advertised with tender pork. It's a bit Smokey but not overwhelmingly so. There's no choice for BBQ sauce so what you get is a mustardy style sauce that wasn't bad either. I would've preferred something with some heat but it was good for an on-the-go meal. Friendly restaurant...great for families, groups, anyone. Located conveniently off Rte 301 at the Shopping Center at the intersection if Dahlgren Rd (King George VA). Wide selection of meats and sides. The pulled pork was very nice and you can add sauce or slaw if you choose. Generous portions of meat on the sandwich. The sauce (served in individual covered cups) was sweet & lightly spicy. Sauce can be purchased by the bottle as well. Definitely a great spot to stop if traveling on Rte 301 to/from Maryland area -- or like us, just looking for a good place to eat. We found a winner and will be going back again! read more

First and last visit typical chain restaurant resembles Mission BBQ in appearance but that's it I tride the daily special (leftover) rib plate with two sides bbq beans /mac and cheese staight out of the can bland the ribs where over cooked hard dry or just leftover the house bbq sauce could ruin any good bbq tastes like ketchup (the first thing you taste) with some spices my service was good but I would never dine there again. read more

I have been coming here's since the opening every time they do a great job it does not look and feel like a franchise. The ambience is great. The a little pricey but it is ok. It is worth it. It took me a while to get use to the ordering system but now I now how to combine and get more for cheaper!!!. Ok. Have been here exactly twice. About a month and a half apart between visits. First visit, ordered the prominently featured and advertised jalapeno beans and was told they were out as their truck wasn't in yet. Today, second visit, was told they could not make a kids grilled cheese and they were STILL out of jalapeno beans because....their truck hadn't come in. Seriously??? What the heck are you missing for that grilled cheese? Bread or cheese? Even in my poorly stocked kitchen I could manage that...someone needs to manage inventory better here. But my hubby likes the food and the waffle fries get a big thumbs up from my family. Also wish there were more nuggets in the kids meal. 4 is not enough. read more
