If you're visiting Joshua Tree on an empty stomach, make a pitstop to Dickey's BBQ. Found this place on Yelp after hiking at Joshua Tree, and it was a great spot for lunch. The restaurant has plenty of parking and seats and the employees here are very friendly and gave us some suggestions on what to order. I got the two meat plate with brisket and marinated chicken breast as my protein and a side of mac & cheese and coleslaw. Make sure to ask for some pickles and onions, as it helps with the greasiness. I personally wouldn't get the chicken again since it was very dry, but the brisket was very delicious. Extremely disappointed. Told the cashier I had a n allergy to pork and to completely separate from the brisket. He separated with a piece of texas toast. Didn't complain. Just took benadryl. But then my son in law took a bite of his brisket bowl thing. Pulled out a piece of plastic. Took it up to the cashier. He didn't offer to remake. Gave him "extra" brisket. I had the 1/2 rack of ribs plate with the baked potato casserole, chili, and cornbread. The best ribs this side of Phil's in San Diego until you reach Texas! The potato casserole was just as impressive, as was the chili. Huge portions too! Service was as friendly as you could get. And the place was very congenial. After waiting 1.5 hrs to never get our food at Kitchen in the Desert, my friend & I hit the road to eat literally anywhere that would feed us quickly. We put an online order in at Dickey's and got there early to pick it up. Our order was being made fresh for us when we got there early for our pickup because the people here actually care about service Ray and Anna were the employees who helped us and they were so kind and so efficient with their jobs. We went to dinner last evening. It was an interesting experience, not necessarily one we will go back for, particularly because of the money and quality of food. We both ordered the two-meat dinners. We had friendly service. $60.00 for these two meals was too high. The portions of brisket and pulled pork were small. The most difficult challenge...ALL OF THE FOOD WAS COLD. The sweet sauce, although tasty, was colder. The barbecue beans had absolutely no bbq flavor. They tasted like a plain can of baked beans. The biscuits were tough and very flat. They had no rise or flavor to them. The baked potato casserole did not taste like a casserole. There seemed to be nothing mixed in with the potatoes for flavor to define as a casserole. The restaurant was not too busy, with just a small family and one other diner at the height of dinner time. A few walk-ins. Plenty of parking available. It would be interesting to rearrange the tables so patrons face the walls rather than the door or the counter. Also, Dickies sells bottled sauces. Those were way over on a side wall, completely out of range. Maybe consider moving those up to the counter. read more

I'm the most conflicted about this restaurant, but seeing how engaged the owner is about replying to feedbacks, I felt compelled to leave a review in the middle of eating.. First thing first, service was great, the cashier was friendly, helpful and it seemed he worked really hard despite having one arm in a cast. (Give that man a raise!) The ambience was nice, everything looked clean, more than one could expect from a chain restaurant. Now onto the food... Had I come here to get the brisket to go, the review would have been a 1-star. The brisket was very dry and lean; there was no fat or juice coming out of it. I ate a couple pieces and just couldn't because of how rough it was to chew it.... I just couldn't justify the cost of it. I hope some changes can be made either to the price or the quality. The saving grace, however, was the ribs. It was every thing I want in my ribs and more, the seasoning was on point, the BBQ sauce was better than most restaurants I've been to. The meat fell off the bones, it was the perfect combination of juicy-ness and tenderness. I definitely would come here all the time just for the ribs. The sides that I got complimented the meal as well (Mac & cheese and coleslaw). I'm not too big of a brisket person so it doesn't affect the way I view the restaurant in general. The 5-star is for the ribs and the service (and that nice young man in the cast!) Don't let the other bad reviews (mostly for the brisket) discourage you from trying the ribs! read more

Dry brisket, the mashed potato and bbq sauce tasted expire, the meats were semi cold, only thing that was good was the Texas toast and drinks. They chopped my brisket and I asked for it sliced. There were two super hard working, friendly people behind the counter. The mac and cheese side along with the coleslaw were delicious. Unfortunately after that, the food wasn't very good. The meats were all dried out/ overcooked. My family had the brisket, chicken, kielbasa and pulled pork. Only the pulled pork wasn't dried out. The beans tasted like baby food mush. Ordered delivery on the website. Received someone else's order. When I called to tell them, they had no solution. I ended up sending my husband to pick up the food. I asked if it was old or cold, they said it has just been made and it was hot and fresh. When he brought the food home finally, an hour after it was supposed to arrive, it was cold and old, and missing my drink. All the packaging was covered in bbq sauce and disgusting lookin. This is the third time I've received the wrong order from Dickeys, and they never offer any solution. No discount, refund, nothing. If I hadn't sent my husband, we wouldn't have received our order. For that I got a small portion of of mediocre beans, mac & cheese, and some of the worst chicken I've ever attempted to eat. It tasted like it was cooked a couple weeks ago, then left out in the desert sun to dry out. And it was virtually flavorless. It all added up to one of the worst meals ever. SO amazing and accommodating! I'm super picky and don't like fatty meat. I know brisket isn't a lean cut, but i did want to try the brisket, so the lovely gentlemen offered to give me the most lean part of the brisket and they beyond exceeded my expectations!
