I've never been to a Dickey's so I was pretty hungry when we got here. Given the food options out by Joshua Tree, my friend and I craved some good eating and BBQ is just a great option. We didn't get drinks because we didn't think of it. But the highlight of this trip was the ribs! I mean, we only got half a rack and we should have gotten a whole rack because of how much we loved it, but the taste was good, the sauce was mouth-watering, and the meat was so well cooked, it just fell off the bones. Wow, we were in heaven while dining under the stars since we took it to go and went to the park to eat. The pulled pork was different and it tasted great with the sauce but it was a bit hot for me. Worst experience I've had at a restaurant. The manager of this place is a very rude, aggressive, and unstable individual. And several reviews down below confirm this as well. I don't write many reviews, but I want the people of Yucca Valley to know that they're better off taking their business elsewhere. I also noticed that the customer service from the company responds to these reviews as well, and I hope they see this too. I had a few experiences here, but this last one was the final straw, as I was THREATENED TO NEVER COME BACK AND CHASED OUT OF THE STORE, (Photo below) because why? Because of one cup of BBQ sauce, that's why. Let me explain. First time I came here was months ago. I had never been to this chain before, and didn't know how it worked. As soon as I walk in, I get the rudest, most unfriendly look from a guy with glasses, who I later find out is the manager. Whatever, he's having a bad day I guess. I ignore it. So I wait in line, and when it's my turn, I asked questions about how the 3 item plate combo works, cause again, 1st time here. The guy acts passive aggressive, rude, and sarcastic, acting like I'm done for not knowing. Whatever, I ignore. When I finally get my food and pay, I noticed there was no fork in the bag. When I kindly asked him for one, he rudely points to a dispenser across the room, that I've never seen before, and shouts "RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!" Ok then...? I've worked retail several years and know that everything about how he's conducting himself is very wrong so far. But whatever. I say thanks and leave. A few months later I come back, knowing exactly what I want, but have a similar experience. Same guy, so much rudeness, and acts like I'm asking for the biggest chore in the world. What is up with this guy? I wonder. And this was the final straw. I had been running some errands yesterday. I decided to place an order over the door dash app as a pick up. I noticed that on the app, if you wanted an additional BBQ sauce, you had to pay another dollar. I always thought it was kind of strange how a BBQ place was so stingy with the sauce, giving you only 1, especially when you get a 3 item plate? But every store has there rules. So I selected an additional one on the app. (Photo below.) So I arrive about an hour later, same guy is smoking a cigarette right in front of the place??? But whatever. I go in, there's no one there. He walks in, very rude and upset that he's the only employee and I interrupted his smoke break I guess. I tell him I'm here to pick up my door dash order. He gets it, I grab the back, say thanks and leave. When I get to the car, I figured, I better check to make sure there's everything in there. I noticed there was only 1 BBQ sauce. Kind of annoying seeing as I had to pay another dollar for it. I go back in and kindly explain what happened. Again, I've worked retail for years. I wasn't rude, I was calm, not accusatory. I've been in similar situations before. I kindly say "Hi, sorry to bug you again, I just paid for an extra sauce on the app, I noticed it wasn't in the bag, could I get one more?" He gives me an angry look and says "It's in there already." I say "It isn't actually. I can go get the bag from my car and show you. Look, honest mistake, it's fine, no worries, can I just get one more?" The guy picks up a sauce, throws it on the counter, almost breaking the thing, and starts giving me a death stare. After all of these negative experiences, I finally say "See that wasn't so hard was it? What is your problem man??" I start walking out and he loses it. He yells: "F*CK YOU! GET THE F*CK OUT OF MY STORE! DON'T F*CKING COME BACK! I MEAN IT! YOU DON'T WANNA F*CKING MESS WITH ME F*CKER!" I slowly walk out and shrug. Again, retail experience, I know that staying calm is the best thing. Shocked by what happened, I slowly go back to my car, and notice the guy run back out and film me??? (photo below) So I filmed back as quick as I could. What was he about to do to me??? What did I do to you? Why so angry from day 1??? If the BBQ sauce is that big of a deal to you, why have your other employees casually thrown 2 or 3 into the bag before without counting? This guy is obviously unstable and hope he gets some help. Hard times? Slow business? Personal stuff? I get it. But I've been through all of those and have NEVER flipped out on a customer like that. Why on earth would this franchise have a manager like this? I'm a huge fan of DICKEY'S Barbecue and eat there often. I travel a lot and frequent different locations all over SoCal. Normally, the Yucca Valley location is very good, with friendly service. Today, I went there to get food for the Super Bowl. There were no other customers present the entire time we were there. I had never seen the young woman working today. She was very unpleasant and acted as though we were bothering her. We placed our order and waited for our food at a table. After a short time, she said it was ready and walked away, back into the kitchen. I had to look around to find the bag behind the screen, separating staff from customers. Since it was the only bag in the area and there were no other customers present, I assumed I had the right order. She never even looked in our direction to assist or guide us to our order. We drove home, opened the bag and found that she had forgotten our cornbread. My wife called (on speaker) to inform her and had planned to drive back and get the cornbread. The phone rang several times, then went to a messaging system. My wife left a polite message asking for a call back so we could coordinate picking up the cornbread, before the game started. We never received a call back. Several hours later, I noticed she had credited my account for the missing cornbread. While I appreciate being refunded for an item I didn't receive, the lack of customer service was surprising. Not only was she rude and acted as though she just didn't want to be there, there was no apparent reason why she couldn't have answered the phone or at the very least, called back. If she's a new hire, she needs a LOT of training. I sincerely hope she is not a replacement for the other, very friendly employees. First off, I have maybe written a bad review twice in my life. This was absolutely horrible customer service. We stopped into Dickey's for our first time on Friday night to order take out. We ordered two meats, and purchased two upgraded sides to-go. By the time we drove home, we opened our order to realize the sides were wrong. This was frustrating to us, and seemed like such a mindless mistake since the restaurant was completely dead. I called the restaurant back to ask what they could do, and the girl on the phone laughably stated it was "company policy" that they can only have the customer drive back in to "exchange the wrong item for the correct one." I was floored. No "so sorry about that", or "we'd love to throw in an extra side or maybe a cookie for your troubles" ?? She just kept saying there was nothing she could do. Zero apology or empathy. Plus, the food was completely mediocre. Hoping to still make the best out of the situation, we tried the incorrect sides - the slaw we received was a watery, soggy mess, and the mac & cheese may well have been from a microwavable meal. Been here 6 or 7 times in the past and things were great. Ordered a brisket sandwich and wife got the ribs. Sandwich had huge junks of brisket that was dry and burnt , ribs were dry also. On you way to Joshua Tree or just happen to be a local in this neck of the woods then Dickey's can satisfy that BBQ craving. For some reason the smaller local BBQ place in town closed down and I had already had the notion of getting a brisket sandwich. After a quick Yelp search this was clearly the only game in town. While I was familiar with the Dickey's name this was my first time trying this franchise chain. They clearly spent some time on the interior design and decor of this location and packed into a small space. The walls on one side of the restaurant are loaded, literally, with all of the various smoking woods they use. Not sure if this is their actual storage location but it makes for an interesting and aromatic presence. They have all the gear on site to do all of the smoking and prep of course and they offer a decent amount of sides to go with all the good stuff. I happened into this place somewhat later in the afternoon, sort of a tweeer since I had skipped lunch. Initially I was concerned all the animal protein would have been sitting in the hot box a little too long but hey managed to cobble together and suggest the freshest of the lot. So I ended up with some sort of combo. Two sides, mac n cheese and coleslaw, two mini mains of chopped brisket and pulled pork with a roll. The roll was useless but the rest was alright, little to no complaints. Portion sizes are measured out and the meats were both relatively lean, I hate the overly fatty chunks you can get from these types of preparation. Great smoke and lots of flavor and you can dress them with a variety of sauces. Ditto the sides both did a stand up job. The staff was sparse but helpful and friendly, efficient too. For being later in the day the place seemed tidy enough, no left overs hanging about on the various tables, most seemed clean and bused. I'm disappointed with the service received each time I've been to this Dickie's location. The first time, the guy working behind the counter was rude to my kids because they were trying to fill their water cup with a beverage other than water and I didn't notice. They are children. He could have addressed it nicely. The third time we went there because we were craving some barbecue. My husband found a small piece of plastic in his pulled pork. My daughter showed it to an employee working there. The first reaction the employee had was to come out from behind the counter and interrupt our meal, stating that the plastic was not from him or from them. I was very annoyed and disappointed with the response. I had only let them know about the plastic so that they can avoid having issues down the road in the future with other patrons. We are easygoing, and we just took out the plastic. We did not make a big fuss about it or ask for a replacement or anything. But then he went back to the counter and sent a girl over to talk to us, and she did something very similar. Rather than apologizing for our experience, she had a very accusatory tone in her voice when speaking to us, stating that it's probably a piece of plastic that fell off of us or a cup or something else. It was very defensive response. I don't find that good customer service, being that I am in the customer service industry myself. We did not ask for a refund for our meal, but the gal gave us a refund for the meal. Then the guy came over again and asked us for our contact information for their records. As we were about to leave I went to use the bathroom, the guy working there to said that his manager would be calling us and to make sure we put a valid number on there. The tone and the words used made me feel like we were being accused of fabricating a story about the plastic found in our pulled pork in order to get a free meal, when we never even asked for any compensation. I wanted to let the matter go but it was very bothersome to me being treated this way. I would not return to this location ever again. I find them extremely rude and condescending. I can pay for my own meal. For him to say that we should leave a valid number made it sound to me like he was insinuating we'd leave a fake number behind, when there was no reason for us to do so. I have no idea if things like this happen often at Dickie's or this location, but the customer service was absolutely rude. The guy is unpleasant and not fit to be in the service industry. The party guest thought the food was delicious (especially bbq tri tip). Our delivery driver was Patrick who was patient when we were running behind schedule. We wanted some good hearty food and they did not disappoint. The gentlemen were very polite and helpful explaining the menu. They made suggestions and we're very patient with my kids who were indecisive. We all got something different so we could share. My favorite was the pulled pork. My Husband loved the brisket, my daughter loved the ribs. The sides were hit or miss for us. The green beans were a little too spice, not what I'm use too. The bbq beans were amazing! And the Mac n cheese and potato casserole was descent. My kids ate it with no problem. I came in looking for the same menu that I've had at several other Dickey's BBQ joints and they didn't have it. Whatever the reasons (and part of it was staff just dropping the ball and not keeping up with their cleaning, making tea, filling the sauce containers) this location didn't deliver the goods. We had just arrived at Joshua Tree and we were starving. So before a hike we decided to fuel up and everyone agreed that we wanted to eat at Dickey's. Once inside, we looked at their handheld menu to decide what would be best for us. It was 2 adults and a child. The inside decor looked cool. We decided that we wanted to try the picnic pack which said it feeds 4 people. It includes 1 lb of your favorite meat, 2 medium side, and 4 rolls. We decided on getting ribs. Once we went up to the cashier we asked if they thought it would be enough food and they said that because it's ribs it wouldn't be. So we ordered the chicken which was more than enough and since we were still craving ribs we ordered 4 oz of BBQ smoked ribs on the side. There was more than enough food and we even had left overs for the next day. The chicken and the smoked ribs tasted delicious and their sauces options were really good as well. Cashier was very nice. Why is "Hand sliced" even written on the wall? The brisket is chopped beyond recognition and served looking like dog food. There were no fresh onions available to which the guy chopping the meats said our shipment did not come in yet. 3 employees, 3 customers at 12:29 p.m. No one can go next door and get yellow onions? No eye contact, slammed our tray down when delivering our food. I don't know his name but the receipt said pit boss. Thanks Dickey's for being open the day after Christmas! Brisket was great and their macaroni was even better. Great bbq sauce and condiment selection too. What really blew me and my husband away was their good sweet tea -- being away from Texas has given us more appreciation for businesses who take the time to give that southern hospitality and a very sweet tea! Came here after hiking all day in Joshua Tree so we were starving. There was only one employee working both the cash register and food prep so we had a little bit of a wait but we didn't mind. She was working hard! I give her props. I was a bit nervous about getting food here because I am not a BBQ fan. I don't enjoy most BBQ sauces. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with potato casserole and green beans. Boyfriend got some meat plate. I only cared about my food. The pulled port sandwich was delicious! It came with cheese and jalapeños on a bun that was brushed with oil and sea salt. So good. I still have cravings for the potato casserole. It was nice and hot when I got it. Same with the green beans. The entire meal was delicious. I would absolutely come back. The reason for 4/5 stars? The price. This place is pretty pricey for the amount of food you get. read more

HORRIBLE service...did I say HORRRRRRRRIBLE????...Even worse than that. The "gentleman" behind the counter would not even acknowledge me, even when I said "good afternoon". Once he finally looked up (he was alone behind the counter putting orders in a bag) he just said, "I'll be with you in awhile." The place was completely empty! I didn't take it personal, as he treated the person who came into the restaurant behind me exactly the same. This guy has a SERIOUS attitude issue. Also, the meat for the platter was chopped up so fine that it should have been on a shredded beef slider. He even used profanities when the credit card reader wouldn't work for him.
