Pappy & Harriet's is one of those places that's known for its iconic atmosphere and charm, but unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype for me. I ordered the nachos after seeing so many rave reviews, but they were just okay. We also tried the fish sandwich, which was pretty mediocre, and the mashed potatoes were a definite miss. If you're visiting primarily for the food, you may leave disappointed. I recommend trying another local option.

Service was excellent, seated very quickly and the server was very friendly. We split a Cowboy combo which we both really enjoyed. The chicken was just a bit dry but was fine. It's a nice clean restaurant and was not super busy on a Sunday. They have a bar area which I wi have to try next time, people were sitting there and it seemed they were really enjoying it.

There is live music every night beginning at 9pm.

Food 4.5 STARS ~ the coleslaw is missing something but the fries and burger delicious. I ate the fries with ranch dressing. Yummylicious! Ambiance ~ 5/5 STARS Looking for a 'get a way' from the city and take a blast into the western past... this is the spot.

How I haven't left a review here yet I'll never understand?! Pappy & Harriet's goes way back for me and I've been coming here since I was a kid. It's insane to see how much this spot has grown over the years. When we used to grow up eating here it was a relatively locals only spot and pretty dead some days. We'd come in for lunch, have quiet meals and not a tourist in sight. However, over the last 10 years that's changed. Once bigger name artists and celebrities started popping in this place became the new "it" desert spot and honestly happy to see them shining and growing. I've just learned if we want a more intimate experience to come off season and during the weekdays. Local or visitor this restaurant is one of my favs in the desert. I'm a sucker for a rock n roll country western vibe and this place is it! Strong cocktails, delicious bbq and meats, and live music. Can't go wrong there. Cocktails are always on point here. I love the desert flower and it's my go to girly cocktail. Strong but slightly sweet, perfection. They've got a great beer selection here as well. If you're coming to eat here I'd highly recommend getting any of their bbq or meat plates. Their grill is old and seasoned and just makes everything taste so good. When I come I'm always getting some variation of their steaks. Always cooked to perfection, with a side of their big cut fries. Heaven on earth. The staff and service here are always stellar. I feel bad for them when they are crazy busy but honestly they hustle and make it all look seamless. Everytime we come, regardless of how busy it is, the drinks and food are extremely well paced. They've got a great system down. If you find yourself in the desert this is a spot worth driving a bit out of the way for. Solid food and vibes, a real treasure in Pioneertown.

This place is a must check-out if in the area and a craving to get your bbq on. There's a sign inside that says "if ur in a rush ur in the wrong place" so not the quickest place esp since there r many people wanting to eat here so theres a bit of a wait. I think we waiting 30 mins or so and finally got seated! I got their half rack of baby back ribs with seasonal veggies and cold slaw and it did NOT disappoint. Love the dry run and it was mostly soft and came with bbq to dip so not overly saucy! Partner finished the chicken sandwich so i bet it was good. They had a band playing that night so many started to stream in for that. Overall def recommend to check out!

In the middle of nowhere but well worth the drive to pioneer town. Super cute vintage western feel. We were able to catch two of the bands performing, which was great. Had the chili cheese fries and the Mac n cheese with Tri tip and garlic mash. Both were delicious, the chili was more of a chile con carne and not your regular chili beans. Service was good and so were their cocktail options.

This place feels like a bit of a tourist trap. The food was mediocre, and there are definitely better BBQ options in Southern California. That said, the place does have a really cool vibe, and the prices are decent considering it's in such a major tourist destination.

Great food. Great ambiance. Great service. What more could you want? The BBQ combo plate with choice of 2 meats and 2 sides was more than enough for 2. Needed to take some home. The BBQ sauce is excellent. Should have asked if they sell it! Coleslaw, which can be tricky, was also just fresh and tasty - not gloppy or too sweet. Phew. Atmosphere is fun, Western, good vibes. Service is friendlier than expected in a good way. No lines at 11:30 am on a Saturday at the end of January. Leaving at 12:30 pm, definitely lines forming and parking lot filling. Will definitely go again. To P & H's, to Pioneertown, and other communities around the Joshua Tree area.

We enjoyed our time here. They have great beer on tap. The food was good, huge portions. The stand outs were the fries, Mac n cheese, and the ribs. They have a Photo Booth in the back and cool decorations.

Pioneertown has only a couple of restaurant bars, and the most popular one is Pappy & Harriet's, it's just near the entrance of town. If you're planning to go, it's a good idea to make a reservation (they usually open bookings about four weeks in advance), or at least put your name down before you start exploring, since the wait can be an hour or more. Service was pretty friendly.

Went to Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace and tried their $99 family special: such a great deal for the amount of food you get (especially with 2 kids) They originally told us the wait would be about an hour, but we were pleasantly surprised and got seated within 25 minutes. That already set the tone for a good experience. The girls at the front were super nice and really considerate with everyone waiting. You could tell they were doing their best to keep things moving and communicate clearly. Our waiter was so sweet, and the staff overall was very attentive throughout the meal. Between the quicker-than-expected seating and the friendly service, it made the whole experience feel welcoming and worth it. Definitely a solid family night spot out here in the desert. Worth the drive

Visiting joshua tree and decided to swing by here for lunch. Their system is a bit disorganized, we lined up to put our name down and was told there was a wait so we walked around pioneertown and came back when it was around time. I came back and saw that instead of taking peoples names down they started to just seat people in line one by one. i waited in line again to get seated. I ordered the cowboy combo and the ribs were really good, very flavorful. i ordered medium rare for the tri tip but it was so hard to chew, not tender at all. I only ate one piece. The fries were crispy and fresh but the mac and cheese was very bland and not cheesy. overall i wouldn't recommend this ordering this combo.

A Pioneertown staple! Large lot for parking. We went on MLK day and only had to wait ~5-10 minutes for a table of 3. I liked the Tri Tip although it was a bit drier than I expected. I ordered it medium rare, but it was definitely more medium. The sides were all delicious though - I enjoyed the fries and mac & cheese. Caesar salad was standard. Portions large. No designated kids meal. Lots of outdoor space - I hope to check out one of their live music events in the future!

    Ask the Community - Pappy & Harriet’s

Do we have to get there when doors open at 6:30 or when the band goes on?

You can show up earlier to the restaurant side and enjoy yourself until it's time to walk out back and check in. 6:30 is just the time they start to scan tickets but you're free to drink/eat/hoard your favorite spot to view the band.…

Handicapped concert holder here, should I even bother to go amongst 850 standing people?

Hi Franchesca! When I was there the last few times, INSIDE, there is an area next to stage left(the right side as the audience faces the band), with seating set aside for mobility challenged. We had a "senior"(over 65), with bad knees, and he sat…

Am I aloud to share a meal between two people?

    Of course you can

Do you take reservations? I've been getting conflicting answers.

    They don't.

Is the restaurant open on Wednesday's when there is a concert?

No, the restaurant is closed Tue and Wednesday. Typically when there is a show on those nights the outdoor grill and bar are still open though!

Does it really close at 930?

The kitchen closes at 9:30, but the bar is open later.

Are they offering takeout? Tried calling but no one picking up.

There is no takeout. The website says since it re-opened dining room service in the late spring the kitchen can't handle both

Will the restaurant open on Christmas day?

No they won't, like most none franchise restaurants this place will be closed

Covid vaccination or negative test required?

I believe only for shows. As far as dining, I believe just a mask will suffice

Do we need to wait in line for dine-in if we have show tickets for later in the night?

    Is this still dog friendly?

    YES!

Hello, I was looking into coming down in April for a girls trip, is it a diverse place? We just wanna have fun and enjoy everyone and feel comfortable.

Everytime I have been there, there are all kinds of people there, and everyone is having fun !

Does anyone know the approximate time is for an early dinner (like 5 or 5:30 pm) on a Monday night (tonight 9/21/20) may be? A 30 minute wait is very different from 1.5 hour wait. Thanks!!

No matter what time you go, there is going to be a wait. Pappy & Harriet's is a destination restaurant. Asking if anyone knows the wait time on Monday night is like asking someone when it is going to rain. It is impossible to gauge that information.

Are you wheelchair accessible? Meaning there are no steps or ramps available to enter the building and get to the restroom. Also that the restroom is big enough to accommodate a wheelchair.

    They are wheelchair accessible

Will it be super cold for dinner at patio?

The weather shifted and it's too cold for the patio, combined with the cold disposition and soul of the owner makes it attic cold out there and unbearable.

Is there a limit to the size of purse or bag for ladies to carry into your venue?

Nah it's very low key here. Not like a football stadium

How is cell reception up there?

Virtually no reception. The bar does have wifi, which is pretty good

    Is the bar open seating?

    Yes

Will you be open on 6/10 to eat even though Longshot is playing that night?

Typically they are open for dinner on pay concert nights but you have to get there early if you don't have a reservation like between 3:30-4:30. If it's a big party tougher to get in. That's my experience

Do kids have to have a purchased ticket for an all ages show?

Yes. You have to pay for your mistakes.

We held a welcome dinner Friday night, with about 40-50 people -- Ranch staff made sure we had plenty of adult beverages while we enjoyed everyone's company. The Hatch House was lovely, and the perfect spot for me and my ladies to get our hair and makeup done before the ceremony. And the ceremony location -- pure magic. ****** STORYTIME ******…read more Once upon a time, there was a Heavy Psych Fest that took place at the High Desert Cultural Center. One day, Kimberley decided to buy tickets to the event without knowing what Kimberley was about to get into .. As Kimberley arrived to the event, Kimberley could feel the energy and excitement in the air and the earth moving below her. Clueless Kimberley, having no idea what to expect and no experience with this type of music decided to enter the concert venue anyway, as the tickets were already purchased ahead of time. As the earth rumbled under foot as if the devil was banging on the underbelly of the earth's crust, the first band performed well and was so hardcore that her ears were about to bleed. She tried to position herself as far as possible from the stage and brace herself on a building so as to prepare the body to enjoy it, but it was just too much for her. She decided to stick around for a little while longer to see if the other bands would be any different. Unfortunately, they weren't. They were even more hardcore than the first band. Kimberley felt like she was in a warzone, and her body couldn't take it anymore. She looked around and noticed that everyone was wearing black and she was the only person that was wearing white. She took that as a sign .... She left the event after only 30 minutes. As she walked out of the venue, she couldn't help but laugh (and cry) at herself for not researching the type of music that would be played at the event before buying the tickets. She realized that she had made a mistake and learned a valuable lesson. From that day forward, Kimberley makes sure she watches a few youtubes about the events and the artists before purchasing tickets to any musical event or show. She certainly doesn't want to find herself in another situation like the Heavy Psych Fest at the High Desert Cultural Center and be the only person who didn't "get the memo" !
