We really liked this place. As soon as we walked in, we saw a small, prominently displayed rainbow flag, which made us feel right at home. We sat at the bar, and our bartender was very friendly - recommended the cowboy coffee for me, and gave me very generous pours. My partner got an Arnie P, which was nice and refreshing. We were there in the late afternoon, and it was relatively chill, bustling, but not overwhelmingly crowded, so it was still easy to navigate. We also got a snack - two tacos - bean 'n cheese for my partner, mushroom asada for me. These were fresh, so they were yummy, and at the same time, I would have love some diced onions and cilantro thrown in. They came wrapped in foil with washi tape, and we love washi tape. We also got the tatchos (tater tot nachos) with queso and some peppers. This really hit the spot. Lots of cute dogs too. I'm honestly not sure how often we'll be out in Pioneertown, but when we do get up there, this will def be a pitstop for us.
Very fun place with cool western saloon vibes, live music and line dancing! You order at the bar and pick up outside, which can get a bit hectic, and their menu is quite limited. I had their classic burger which was a lot smaller than expected and was fine overall, came with really good chips on the side though! Also had a dirty martini that was spectacular
Churros: 3/5 I was really hoping that these would be good but they were really whatever. Kind of dense with a cardamom kick, I didn't really care for them. The chocolate sauce is not sweet, rather "sophisticated" but meh. Chips + Queso: 3/5 Thick chips, thick queso that tasted like Chipotle's, it was whatever to me. It sat in my stomach like a rock. Dazzling Dallas Manhattan: 5/5 Super strong, dessert vibes without the sweetness. I loved this drink. Really pushed the rating up to a 4 star! If you like your alcohol, highly recommend. Oaxacan Old Fashioned: 3.5/5 It was okay. I always forget that I don't really like mezcal and that's the main flavor. Strong smoke. It is balanced, so I would recommend it to someone who really enjoys that flavor. Ambiance: Western and fun! While I don't recommend kids, I did see some enjoying tacos and chilling with their families Service: It's a bar. Flagging someone down might be hard but everyone was generally pleasant. Parking: There's a lot of parking on dirt roads but if there is an event expect to drive around a couple of times. Some big trucks may make things tricky.
Delicious tacos. Mushroom and bean taco on corn tortillas. Small and simple. Super cute ambiance here with friendly service. Prices ok. Dive bar vibes. Apparently this is the spot to hang if you're going to a show at Pappy & Harriet's next door. Full bar. Super fun and cool. Loads of parking. Take a walk in pioneer town too. The guacamole was absolutely legitimate and the tacos were great. On corn or flour. And fairly priced. Eat well and enjoy your meal. This is definitely a destination location that requires you to have a plan. Especially if you are drinking. It's on a windy mountain road with no service once you get there. Do it! Enjoy your life. SYOY.

Absolutely loved this place! Everyone said when you're in Joshua Tree to check out Red Dog Saloon & I stumbled across this place. Tried the margaritas and they were pefect!!! We also got the tacos and chips. These were good but not worth the price. However, I feel like your paying for the experience so I was content with us. Super cool inside the bar and on the patio. It feels like you're in an old western film. Bartender was super friendly and service was fast. If in the area this place is a must see!!!
Three of us visited on a honky tonk Sunday night. Parking is easy lot parking. Music was good, employees were kind and let us know that they'd be with us when they were done taking other orders. Drinks are good, food is finger foods. We ordered the tator tots and a chips w salsa. It was okayyyyy. Plenty of seating, free wifi as reception is spotty. Toilets and hand wash basin in the bathroom are black which is sketchy. Could use a more thorough cleaning and a changing out to white color. The surrounding area is Pioneertown, from what I understand was an old movie set. A very fun vibe overall. Time seems to stop when you're there. Fun to experience Be careful of driving on the road at night, we were almost run off the road by overzealous and/or drunk locals.
Always chill spot to catch a drink , maybe have a few tacos . The micheladas are really good and tasty !! Certain days they have certain themed nights , I think mondays is like bingo and vinyl . So always something going on .
I love that there's so many options for drinks, that there was many places to sit unlike pappys, and it was very clean. As a vegan, there aren't many options to eat in Joshua tree, but red dog delivered. I loved the Gordo taco, boyfriend and I LOVED the spicy pickles and tots! Pickles were amazing! Kurt was a friendly bartender and made conversation. We shall return!

Such a cool western saloon established in 1946 and still serving since way back then! They've got Tex-Mex dishes along with delicious desserts and high quality alcohol. Great staff and bartenders too. It is the spot while visiting Pioneertown. And the best part is that they let you go inside with your dogs!
I swear I already made a review to this place because it was a pretty awesome place but I don't see my review here and it's asking me to make one. So from what I remember, we had our puppy with us and we weren't allowed to have her very many places, but this place allowed her to go in and they gave us a bowl of water. We had tacos. It was a very nice day and we would like to come back here. We stayed out of Airbnb in Joshua tree we probably will end up coming back. I love this little town and I wish it was closer to me here in Bakersfield.
This is the best and only reason to visit Pioneertown. The breakfast burrito was amazing!!! Unbelievably good. Fully loaded with everything you would ever want in a breakfast burrito. I also had a Bloody Mary which was also very good. And the whiskey selection was top notch..not that I indulged with my breakfast burrito, but many good choices. I doubt I will make the trek to pioneertown again, but if I do, it will be to get that burrito!!
Stopped by Red Dog Saloon in Pioneertown on a Thursday evening, and it was such a good time! The old Western vibe is perfect for photos, especially in front of the saloon. We even caught a beautiful sunset and the petting zoo across the way ( open until sunset ) Julio was the best bartender and host! His Moscow mule with fresh housemade ginger beer and specialty Mexican shots were delicious. Shoutout to Chef Christopher too--the tacos, chips, and guacamole were flavorful and filling. Add the hot sauce for an extra kick! The locals were friendly, and even without live music, the atmosphere was great. For my fellow people of color, we felt completely welcomed and comfortable. 10/10 recommend! read more
It's a cute spot located at Pioneertown. Theres plenty of parking. They have indoor tables, bar seating, and outdoor tables. You can order both the food and drinks at the bar. Food pickup is located outside. I love their tacos but it's just tortilla and meat. Super flavorful. There's also cute shops nearby to walk around! read more

My partner and I stopped by on our way back to LA from Joshua Tree on a Wednesday afternoon and had a very nice experience! The servers were very kind and gave us great recommendations. The Tacos and Chicken Quesadilla were amazing!! We also had some fun playing N64 games on a console they had there. The saloon had a very welcoming vibe and a lot of history on the walls. Couldn't recommend this place enough!!! read more

Very unique little bar in the heart of Pioneertown. We REALLY enjoyed their tacos, and I recommend two per person. Super fresh and delicious and affordable. Their specialty margarita, the Deville, at $23 was not worth the price. It was pretty small, the tequila tasted weird (and I like reposados), and there was no salt despite requesting it. Definitely enjoyed the Old Western ambiance however and everyone was friendly enough. Service was quick. read more
There is not a lot to do in Pioneertown but if you come, I would make sure to check out this "saloon." It does, actually, look like an old-timey Western saloon although I assure you that it is very kid and dog friendly. The decor inside is great. Two words of advice: be patient and bring a lot of money. The food takes a long time to come out and everything is very expensive. You order both food and drinks at the bar and then you get a pager to pick up your food on the outside deck. Remember to be patient! You get your drinks right at the bar. Speaking of drinks, they are awesome. The Bloody Mary is absolutely terrific and comes with olives, a huge celery stalk, a lemon slice, a a cucumber slice, and I cannot remember what else. It is strong, delicious, and had a ton of flavor. I also tried the Tommy's Margarita (made with mezcal instead of tequila) and it was very nice, but only if you enjoy a smoky aroma and flavor, which I do. The "tacos" are great even though they look and operate more like little rolled up burritos. The flour tortillas are obviously freshly-made and they are wonderful. We tried a beef brisket taco, a pork carnitas one, and a bean and cheese one. The beef brisket was the clear winner. The pork was also good. The bean and cheese one was just ok. Also, make sure to get an order of the chips and queso. The chips are super fresh and crispy and the melted cup of cheese (you get a good portion of it) is delicious. At night, they have terrific live music and it's freeeee. Don't worry, you are paying for everything you experience with the prices here. But you are truly paying for quality. Everything appears to be house-made, even the lemonade. This is definitely worth visiting when you are out in the desert. read more

Food is simple yet delicious. Love the tortas and tacos any variation is lity! The drinks are so good the best in my book fresh ingredients and made from scratch with high end quality spirits. Great choices in tequilas and Mezcal's, whiskey too. Great Vibe, amazing bartenders and the peeps are all friendly. Great time every time. read more

This one of my favorite restaurants while visiting Joshua Tree! While the food doesn't look like anything special, all the flavors in everything were incredible! I was pretty full by the end but had to go back and order some more tacos. The food comes out really fast and they have tons of outdoor seating to enjoy the warm weather and sunshine. The drinks were also delicious! There are also a bunch of little shops in the area that you can walk through afterwards. Definitely recommend going here even if it's a little bit out of the way! read more

I loved visiting pioneer town. This saloon was the cherry on top. You still get the old western look but with a twist of modern amenities! There was a line to order at the bar which is where you order food. Took about 10 mins or less to get my order. I ordered a bloody and 3 different tacos. This place takes their time to make sure the drinks look and taste great. The tacos where soggy but still tasted great. Definitely stop by if you are in pioneer town! read more

I would say this place has one of the best mushroom tacos! The tortillas were fresh and soft while the mushrooms were cooked to perfection. The Mexican corn is to die for. It's wonderful! The restaurant can be busy during lunchtime but there are many seating spaces outside. read more

Top notch stop on our day trip. We are near town working Coachella/Stagecoach and did a little road trip thru Joshua Tree and other stops... Got a few drinks, had some amazing food and took a little rest. I loved my chilli relleno, which was huge! It was a full meal with rice and beans. The plate was well put together and the dish itself was delicious. This dish is the one thing I always order when on the road and this is in the top 3 because it was like a Mexican auntie cooking it for family. Kurt and Elena were very nice with our food and drink orders and took care of us. One of our friends knows the head chef, and I'm sure these folks always get "I know this guy, tell him hi" but Kurt actually did tell him hi. And the chef bought his friend a shot. This place is also a music venue. Lively outdoor seating and an overall nice vibe. read more
Real fun bar that helps round out the night life in Pioneertown. I had a great time while enjoying the afterglow from the concert nearby and it was a worthwhile experience. I ordered some hot dogs to help with the alcohol digestion and it was just a really cool place to hang out for awhile. The staff was fun and it was what I was expecting while not having to stay in the concert venue since that place is doing more music stuff. Worth visiting as the after party or pre-party! read more

Stopped by Pioneer Town and grabbed a bite. Big mistake !!! The Brisket tacos were disgusting. It was meat dripping in pure oil. No flavor at 6 bucks each. Then they charge a 16% surcharge to make up for wages? Like what???? It's shame because the servers were really nice but the food was gross. read more

Cool spot in downtown Pioneer Town. The food is ordered at the bar which makes for some inefficiency but you can eat wherever and there is plenty of outdoor seating. The saloon itself has a cool vibe to it but the food isn't particularly good, but it'll do the job. Ordered the chicken tinga and brisket tacos (neither that great, most just a tortilla with the meat inside), arroz Rojo with chicken (best item we tried overall), and black beans. We also tried the churros (meh) and Mexican hot cocoa (alright). If you go for the drinks and chips you'd probably have a better experience! They do serve spiked hot cocoa and hot toddy which we didn't get to try but I'd definitely be back for especially on cold desert nights! read more
