This was so worth the 3 hour drive from LA! The people here are lovely, and the drinks are reasonably priced. We saw Aquaman's band last night and it was probably the most fun I've had in months. The locals are eclectic and welcoming, and there plenty of dogs to pet. If you're coming from out of town, I recommend getting a place and staying for a couple days. You think this place is a tourist trap but it isn't. The cocktails are fucking phenomenal. Their michelada rojo mix is the best I've ever had. Everything is made in house and it shows. We really liked this place. As soon as we walked in, we saw a small, prominently displayed rainbow flag, which made us feel right at home. We sat at the bar, and our bartender was very friendly - recommended the cowboy coffee for me, and gave me very generous pours. My partner got an Arnie P, which was nice and refreshing. We were there in the late afternoon, and it was relatively chill, bustling, but not overwhelmingly crowded, so it was still easy to navigate. We also got a snack - two tacos - bean 'n cheese for my partner, mushroom asada for me. These were fresh, so they were yummy, and at the same time, I would have love some diced onions and cilantro thrown in. They came wrapped in foil with washi tape, and we love washi tape. We also got the tatchos (tater tot nachos) with queso and some peppers. This really hit the spot. Lots of cute dogs too. Food is standard, been here a few times so I've tried everything from the delicious carne asada taco(would recommend) to the cowboy breakfast in which I really appreciated the black beans ! However I will say drinks are a bit overpriced, especially considering the smaller portion sizes of the drinks. Staff is friendly and it's always a good vibe in there! Absolutely loved this place! Everyone said when you're in Joshua Tree to check out Red Dog Saloon & I stumbled across this place. Tried the margaritas and they were pefect!!! Churros: 3/5 I was really hoping that these would be good but they were really whatever. Kind of dense with a cardamom kick, I didn't really care for them. The chocolate sauce is not sweet, rather "sophisticated" but meh. Chips + Queso: 3/5 Thick chips, thick queso that tasted like Chipotle's, it was whatever to me. It sat in my stomach like a rock. Dazzling Dallas Manhattan: 5/5 Super strong, dessert vibes without the sweetness. I loved this drink. Really pushed the rating up to a 4 star! If you like your alcohol, highly recommend. Oaxacan Old Fashioned: 3.5/5 It was okay. I always forget that I don't really like mezcal and that's the main flavor. Strong smoke. It is balanced, so I would recommend it to someone who really enjoys that flavor. Ambiance: Western and fun! Three of us visited on a honky tonk Sunday night. Parking is easy lot parking. Music was good, employees were kind and let us know that they'd be with us when they were done taking other orders. Drinks are good, food is finger foods. We ordered the tator tots and a chips w salsa. It was okayyyyy. Plenty of seating, free wifi as reception is spotty. Toilets and hand wash basin in the bathroom are black which is sketchy. Could use a more thorough cleaning and a changing out to white color. The surrounding area is Pioneertown, from what I understand was an old movie set. A very fun vibe overall. Time seems to stop when you're there. My partner and I stopped by on our way back to LA from Joshua Tree on a Wednesday afternoon and had a very nice experience! The servers were very kind and gave us great recommendations. Very unique little bar in the heart of Pioneertown. We REALLY enjoyed their tacos, and I recommend two per person. Super fresh and delicious and affordable. Their specialty margarita, the Deville, at $23 was not worth the price. It was pretty small, the tequila tasted weird (and I like reposados), and there was no salt despite requesting it. Definitely enjoyed the Old Western ambiance however and everyone was friendly enough. Service was quick. read more

I swear I already made a review to this place because it was a pretty awesome place but I don't see my review here and it's asking me to make one. So from what I remember, we had our puppy with us and we weren't allowed to have her very many places, but this place allowed her to go in and they gave us a bowl of water. We had tacos. This is the best and only reason to visit Pioneertown. The breakfast burrito was amazing!!! Unbelievably good. Fully loaded with everything you would ever want in a breakfast burrito. I also had a Bloody Mary which was also very good. And the whiskey selection was top notch..not that I indulged with my breakfast burrito, but many good choices. There is not a lot to do in Pioneertown but if you come, I would make sure to check out this "saloon." It does, actually, look like an old-timey Western saloon although I assure you that it is very kid and dog friendly. The decor inside is great. Two words of advice: be patient and bring a lot of money. The food takes a long time to come out and everything is very expensive. You order both food and drinks at the bar and then you get a pager to pick up your food on the outside deck. Remember to be patient! You get your drinks right at the bar. Speaking of drinks, they are awesome. The Bloody Mary is absolutely terrific and comes with olives, a huge celery stalk, a lemon slice, a a cucumber slice, and I cannot remember what else. It is strong, delicious, and had a ton of flavor. I also tried the Tommy's Margarita (made with mezcal instead of tequila) and it was very nice, but only if you enjoy a smoky aroma and flavor, which I do. The "tacos" are great even though they look and operate more like little rolled up burritos. The flour tortillas are obviously freshly-made and they are wonderful. We tried a beef brisket taco, a pork carnitas one, and a bean and cheese one. The beef brisket was the clear winner. The pork was also good. The bean and cheese one was just ok. Also, make sure to get an order of the chips and queso. The chips are super fresh and crispy and the melted cup of cheese (you get a good portion of it) is delicious. At night, they have terrific live music and it's freeeee. Don't worry, you are paying for everything you experience with the prices here. But you are truly paying for quality. Everything appears to be house-made, even the lemonade. This is definitely worth visiting when you are out in the desert. read more

This one of my favorite restaurants while visiting Joshua Tree! While the food doesn't look like anything special, all the flavors in everything were incredible! Top notch stop on our day trip. We are near town working Coachella/Stagecoach and did a little road trip thru Joshua Tree and other stops... Got a few drinks, had some amazing food and took a little rest. I loved my chilli relleno, which was huge! It was a full meal with rice and beans. The plate was well put together and the dish itself was delicious. This dish is the one thing I always order when on the road and this is in the top 3 because it was like a Mexican auntie cooking it for family. Kurt and Elena were very nice with our food and drink orders and took care of us. One of our friends knows the head chef, and I'm sure these folks always get "I know this guy, tell him hi" but Kurt actually did tell him hi. And the chef bought his friend a shot. I loved visiting pioneer town. This saloon was the cherry on top. You still get the old western look but with a twist of modern amenities! There was a line to order at the bar which is where you order food. Took about 10 mins or less to get my order. I ordered a bloody and 3 different tacos. Cool spot in downtown Pioneer Town. The food is ordered at the bar which makes for some inefficiency but you can eat wherever and there is plenty of outdoor seating. The saloon itself has a cool vibe to it but the food isn't particularly good, but it'll do the job. Ordered the chicken tinga and brisket tacos (neither that great, most just a tortilla with the meat inside), arroz Rojo with chicken (best item we tried overall), and black beans. We also tried the churros (meh) and Mexican hot cocoa (alright). If you go for the drinks and chips you'd probably have a better experience! They do serve spiked hot cocoa and hot toddy which we didn't get to try but I'd definitely be back for especially on cold desert nights! read more
