A friend of mine refer me to Dick's after I haven't had the best luck from the barbershops in my area. The place is cool and the staff are chill. I needed a line up with a beard trim for a friend's wedding to go to that night. I arrived on a Saturday so there was a barber short, but the wait wasn't bad. After a half an hour, I sat on the chair and the person I was set up with, did his work. After the cut, I was really impressed with the new look. I would definitely recommend Dick's if you need a good haircut or beard trim. It was reasonably price ($17 for haircut and $8 for the beard trim) and the staff were talkative and funny. Thanks to Jonah N.'s review, I now know the secret link between Rick's and Dick's barber shops on Geary street. I thought the naming was just an odd coincidence, but it appears the shops are owned by brothers with cruel parents. Anyways, I have had my hair cut at both, but the fact that Dick's, excuse me, Dick's International, is open on Sunday is what makes it the sweetness for me. They give you the tight barber shop cuts that make you look like your grandpa did in high school. For only 12 bucks you get a skilled clipper and scissor cut and a back-of-the-neck, behind-the-ear, straight razor clean-up with warm shaving cream. They rub you with hot towels and finish off the cut with the old school shoulder massager thingy that vibrates loudly. Afterward, you feel clean, smooth, refreshed and ready to go convince your high school sweetheart that she should not let you go off to fight the nazis while still a virgin. I signed up for Yelp purely to write this review. The haircut I received was so infuriating. I wish 0 stars was an option. In my 26 years I have never received a worse haircut. It is beyond comprehension how they have been the only barber shop to so severely misinterpret the same haircut request I have ordered regardless of geography, gender, age and race for the last 15 years of my life. Reason's why I hate Dick's: -Paralyzing communication skills -Painfully long wait -Complete incompetence The hot foam shave is nice, but after watching him butcher by head, do I really give a f---? This is actually the first bad review I've given, but that's how bad these guys are. I've gotten my hair cut here for almost a year now and I always thought these guys were just naturally rude, but at least still cared about their customers. Boy was I wrong. These guys close at 5:45 (not 6), so that they can go home at 6. I got here at 5:10 on the dot after work and upon walking in, they were yelling at a guy to get out. First red flag. But the customer could've just been a jerk. I was slightly excited though because no one was waiting, which meant I would have been next! But before I took a seat, two guys yelled at the same time, "WE'RE CLOSED!" I actually flinched a bit because it was so loud. Second red flag. I then brought up their sign and how they still had 35 min to go till closing and that my haircut would be pretty quick. Then I hear one guy say, "I'm tired man." SERIOUSLY?!?! How many times have I been at work tired and just wanted to go home!? If you say you'll be open until a certain time, that's a promise to your customers! THEN, I get a sarcastic response from another guy, "are you get a 0 all around, cuz that's quick haha." What the heck. Really. That's when red flag #3 convinced me to never come back here again. No nonsense, here, as these guys are straight-up barbers, and will accommodate you the best they can -- particularly if you're a guy just trying to get lined up or trimmed without any frills or the expensive price tag. I really hate to add a bad review for this place but the kid I had cut my hair yesterday made me never want to step foot in that place again. I usually get a hair cut at ricks down the street but they had a line so I decided to try this place instead. I am called up as the kid with the giants hat at the end has an opening. He asks how I want my hair cut so I tell him I want a fade and to have it tapering into the longer hair on top. His response was to ask, if I even knew what the definition of tapering was. I guess he was implying I didn't know my terminology. Regardless I didn't think much of it and kept rolling with it. So he starts to cut my hair and line it up and all that good stuff. It was taking a while but I don't think this kid has much experience cutting hair so I keep rolling with it. Then I guess he thought it looked acceptable. I thought I looked like simple jack from tropic thunder. Not good! I asked nicely to trim down the sides a little more and he got really defensive about it. I don't think he has any people skills! If he gets offended when I ask to have a little more taken off, then he is in the wrong business. He started to cut my hair really quick like he was upset with me. It was extremely uncomfortable sitting there. I don't know this kid cutting my hair, now he is upset and swinging scissors around my head. So do I tell him to stop and piss him off even more or just keep quiet?! Well since I am not a big fan of being stabbed, I just kept quiet. Then we got to the straight razor. He reaches over and hardly put any shaving cream on and starts going at it. He was a tractor too. My neck still hurts from that bozo trying to scalp me. But I will say this, after all that my haircut came out good. But to be honest, that good hair cut is only one narrow slice of the pie. This kids attitude is far beyond enough to keep me away from that place. He will never touch another hair on my head. And keep this in mind too, this is only a review for the kid working on the last chair in the giants hat. I am willing to bet the rest of the barbers there are on point. I roll by here once every month or two and normally get my hair cut by Francisco so this review will be based on his haircuts. The wait times can be a little long but it is worth it. Francisco's attention to detail is amazing and I have never walked out feeling disappointed or unhappy with my cut. He's also super friendly and for the price, the quality of work is great ($15 compared to $30 at some other spots). The shop is also pretty clean when I go in and definitely has that classic barbershop vibe. I don't know about the other barbers but I don't agree with some of the negative reviews about Francisco. Okay, so there is no way you're not going to wait for a few until a chair opens up, that's how good this barber shop is! I like that first or second chair just because I am a creature of habit but there have been times I did not want to wait and jumped into the other ones and was not disappointed. Went in here today for the first time and when I walk I. There is 3 barbers then I notice more in the back room. So it gets to a point where there is only one chair in use and the other barbers are just hanging out in the back room and there is 5 customers waiting. The haircut was alright. Most of the time the barbers a speaking who knows what language. Overall I had to wait 1 hour. If all of there were working it would of been 30 minutes tops. read more

My family and I moved back to San Francisco 5 going on 6 years ago & while moving, it can be hard to find a barber that'll give you THAT exact cut that'll make you feel good and not look foolish! This place is that place that has me going from YIKES to RIGHT! Never fails, I always go to Francisco, the father who owns the shop, he's been cutting at this location since the 80's.. lol I forget, somewhere in the 1900's, hes got that old school barber vibe feel! If you want a more modern cut that all the cool dudes are rocking now days, his sons also cut there as well and can cater to what you want! I love the old school razor to clean up the edges and to finish it off with a back and arm massage is a plus as well! Nothing but good things to say about this place and will continue to come here! Been coming to this place quite often and I am always satisfied with my haircut. They have nice collection of reading material from sports to X rated if you have to wait, but the line usually goes pretty quick. The barbers don't talk that much to their customers, mostly to each other, and in Tagalog. That's find with me as I like a haircut to be quick and the cutter to be concentrating on his cutting. If you want a place that is clean and nice looking than this is not the place for you. Oh and after you haircut they give you a shoulder massage using an electronic massager of some type. read more

I've been going here for a few months to get a cut, and I always leave looking doe boy fresh. Francisco (the young one) knows how to do a great fade and his line-ups are perfect. You can tell him any way you want your hair cut and he can deliver. The straight razor shave around the edges, on the back of the neck and behind the ear, the hot towel and the electric neck massage make a cut here therapeutic. I showed the man a picture of what I was looking for. After he was done the first time he just started taking the cover off me, didn't ask me if I liked it at all or if I want anything changed. I asked him to make it shorter so he puts the cover back on and barely does anything to it. Shitty experience, was hoping to get the younger barber there instead of the old Asian man for this exact reason. Communication doesn't hurt. I don't want to have to keep asking for small changes when he doesnt respond back to me. But for $14 for a cut, straight razor shave and a neck massage, it's a good deal. Dicks is a very good place to get a faux hawk. I've been there twice and I personally think the middle age barber is the best one for the faux hawk cut. He takes him time and it looks even. But, when I went there for a second time, my faux hawk got messed up by a barber who looks younger. I'm not saying he sucks because he actually took his time. The back part looks shorter from the front part. If you want a good haircut and a free 1 minute massage, come to this place! read more
