Great location, just don't try to turn left onto 31. That's a poor life choice. Went here for a retirement party, it was my first time in. I live within 5 miles of here, my parents had been here but I just had never stopped in. The server was not happy with us, it was just her and we were a party of 16. Our boss had stopped in to ask them/ reserve/notify about the upcoming event. I guess if your party is more than 8, you aren't allowed separate checks. But, we had people coming from multiple places/towns and that was impossible. We didn't have to do it on one check, but the server was not nice about it. I guess if I was still in food service, I would have been the same. We had Costco cake. I ordered white chicken chili here, and a pizza to go to have for dinner at home. Chili, not memorable. I really enjoyed their outdoor patio area. Cool music playing and a bar there. Definitely a fun vibe, and nice view of Lake Michigan. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as the atmosphere. I was there with 3 other people. We all had the white bean chili and all 4 of us were disappointed. I am a sucker for things labeled "award winning", but I wish I had asked what award this chili won. It was called "Award Winning White Chicken Chili". This item lacked a description like the rest of the menu items. I wish they had provided a description on the menu because then I wouldn't have ordered it. It had a heavy, cheesy, tangy base. My mom thought it was like Velveeta cheese. It reminded us of a cheese dip instead of a chili. The Mozzarella sticks were okay, nothing special. I enjoyed my chef salad with ranch dressing. I would return and try different items. I don't know why this place has so many bad reviews on Yelp. The reviews on google are closer to accurate. This place is a tale of two places. There is an inside bar and dining area and then a nice outdoor patio with views of the bay. We always wait for the outside seating. The food is good but not fine dining. You come for good food, cold beer and a view. They have changed the whitefish and walleye from the last time we were there and both are good. Tried the prime rib on special. The pizza was great but the salmon and asparagus were way overcooked. For the most part prices were fair, but my son and son-in-law both got sandwiches that came with chips. We ate here late afternoon in the summer. We were promptly seated at our choice of an outdoor table. It was threatening rain so there were quite a few open tables. The server said she didn't know what they would do if it rained and shrugged her shoulders. Overall, the service was very spotty ending with us waiting over 10 minutes while it sprinkled for her to return our credit card. The food was better than I had expected based on the reviews. I ordered the butterfly shrimp, which wasn't butterflied, but was good shrimp. We also ordered a pizza which we had to send back as it was not cooked all the way through and the cheese wasn't melted nor were any of the toppings cooked. I finished eating my dinner by the time they brought the pizza back. The noise on the highway between the restaurant, and the bay was so loud we just couldn't really enjoy the view of the bay. The staff like everywhere else can sometimes be short of servers but those that work there are always efficient and take good care of the customers. We've passed this restaurant literally HUNDREDS of times while in TC, always remarking on how busy the parking lot always is and how it must be very good. Finally after years we parked and pooped in for dinner. It's funny after years we assumed what the interior and menu would be.... We were quite off. The inside is updated for sure, this place opened in 1968 and was renovated recently it appears. Bright side and open dining area with a large curved bar on the wall and a huge outdoor patio. The patio allows better views of the east bay of course but on this hot sunny night it was crowded and the road noise may be a downer lol but they did have a stage for live music and a sweet bar so that's cool! The menu was not big as I expected... it was mainly a combo of bar food and family style dinners. My gut told me to get a staple "family" restaurant meal... like a sandwich or a chicken tender basket BUT we noticed a lot of Greek items on the menu... so we decided to try the Greek pizza. We started with fried mushrooms... delicious breading and incredible handmade ranch VERY small portion for the price. The pizza was large and very cheesy but it was not really a Greek pizza... it was more of a cheese pizza with way too many black olive and chunks of gryo meat... it was supposed to have feta. No feta was on this pizza?! None. Not a bad pizza but nothing about it was Greek to us which was disappointing. Beer menu was small, cocktail was weak and small. Service was fine. I want to live this restaurant. However, I always get the breaded chicken wings and have gotten sick after every time. I've asked for them well done and still got sick. I've gotten them still oink so I couldn't eat them. It's fried food not rocket science! On a recent trip to this beautiful part of the country, we asked the front desk employee at our hotel for a dinner recommendation. She told us to try the Bayview Inn Bar & Grill. Well we learned not to judge a book by its cover. As we walked in we're weren't sure if this place was going to work. As we sat down Kristin came over, introduced herself to us & the rest was history. The 4 of us ordered. 2 cheeseburgers, 1 with bacon and 1 with mushrooms & the ladies both ordered white beam chilly. ALL 4 meals were really wonderful. The burgers were some of the best both of us have had & both ladies loved the chilly. Bottom line, don't judge a book by its cover. We came here at the recommendation of a friend who lives nearby and said it was a good local place. Having looked at the reviews and how glowing some of them are we felt that at worst it was likely inconsistent. That being said, I am not blaming our server for any of what follows, she had a genuinely good attitude and was very nice. At this glacial pace we were no longer even hungry, just tired and disappointed. We waited over an hour from the time that we ordered (not from when we sat down) and all we got was half hearted apologies and no offers of anything. So the food finally came--all at once. The soup was cold and the fries congealed. The marinara is so cold it is practically refreshing. Apparently that is how they serve it, I asked. The manager (who I am fairly sure was the owner, not too many managers wear a dirty T-shirt to work) was testy with us and we will never be back. Which should make the manager happy. read more

Service was prompt and we were checked on regularly, drinks never empty. The food was pretty good. I and several at the table are the baked Parmesan whitefish. It was above average. I would get it again. The rest of the table had pizzas and they were average at best. The only one that disappeared was the buffalo chicken. Came here on a Wednesday night after a work conference. Found out once we were seated it was trivia night, so it was busy. Service was excellent! We had to wait for a table for maybe 10 minutes. Our orders were taken right away. I recommend the Veggie Pita! It was packed full of veggies and tasted so good. It also came with french fries that were crispy (my favorite). The view in the deck was really nice, with an outside bar/lounge area. The coffee we had ordered had shiny flakes in it. It kind of looked like fish food floating around in all of our coffee cups. The waitress never apologized for it and just kind of nonchalantly took the cups away. She also got my order wrong and didn't apologize for it. The food was mediocre at best. We love them for the relaxed atmosphere, the cinnamon girl on tap, good variety of tasty bar food and the fact that I can take my 3 young boys into the restaurant and feel at home if they start getting overly excited. Well I guess we're just not having much luck dinning out in traverse city tonight. The owner was extremely nice (sort of fell bad about not leaving a good review, but maybe he'll make use of it) . The prices were very reasonable (good thing- unfortunately that's where it ends). The food was terrible (Rueben had old corn beef, the deep fried mushrooms were awful, nachos salty), the service was SLOOOW and they couldn't even make a decent margarita - I'm pretty sure they somehow got coke-a- cola mixed in it. While staying in Traverse City we stopped by Bayview Inn for dinner and ended up going another time that same visit. The first time I ordered the gyro dinner platter that came with a huge fresh greek salad and my husband ordered the Italian sub that was delicious. The second time I ordered the Parmesan encrusted whitefish and my husband ordered the half of rack of ribs that fell off the bone. The green beans were fresh and amazing. I went to this bar for drinks with friends on a Friday night. It was later, we'd had an excellent dinner, and just wanted to relax. We came into town just a few hours earlier for a short vacation. The service was excellent that night. The atmosphere is slightly dive bar-ish, but not in a bad way. They have a jukebox, pool tables, food (I've heard the pizza is really good), and outdoor patio, and that trivia that you can play with a controller at your table. The beer/liquor selection was very adequate. The low stars come from our experience two days later. We stopped in around 10pm on a Sunday and they were closed! I realize that's not an unusual time for a restaurant to close, but this place looks like the kind of bar where manual laborers go for a few beers after work. It seems like the kinda place that would be open until 2am every single day. And what's worse is that there were quite a few people inside sitting at tables and at the bar drinking. The doors were locked, and the wait staff just stared at us when we motioned to them. Yes, it could've been regulars and off-the-clock employees who were in there drinking. I know how it goes.
