My husband and I tried this place for the third and last time tonight. We got the crab rangoon dip and it came with tortilla chips that I believe were stale, and the dip had a fishy first taste to it. Dinner was the tortellini dish for me and the chicken marsala for him, he had me try it, the chicken didnt taste done to me, very rubbery and it isnt setting well with my husbands stomach at this very moment. We pulled up to the side lot to chat with friends about our next destination and while talking through the window to each other, obviously not staying or getting out, she came and told us to leave. Funnily enough the building reminds me of an old bait and tackle shop. However that being said inside is inviting and a little dark. It divided into a couple of seating areas and a bar. I Ordered the Crab Rangoon Dip ($16) served hot with Wonton Chips. They were excellent. They come out scalding. The chips taste homemade and once the dip cools enough to taste it becomes very addictive. I also ordered the Lasagna ($22). It somehow comes out even hotter than the dip. Yowser, it is a nice thick slab of Lasagna. Once it cooled enough to eat it was delicious. The noodles were delicate and tasty. The sauce was right on and there was plenty of meat inside it. It ended up being too much to complete and I had about half left to enjoy the next day. The service is very friendly and does a great job. Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? Mico's is back! What was known for generations as "The Torch" is now Mico's Torch Riviera and it's fabulous! I've been fortunate enough to know the Fortuna family and their long history of serving delicious Italian food to the Traverse City & Torch lake region. Since the Leelanau Peninsula translates to wine country (it doesn't but it should!) we started with a bottle of Black Star Farms Riesling. Some restaurants really mark up the wine but the prices at Mico's were more than reasonable. For starters we ordered the Caprese salad (good but nothing that stood out) and the calamari for an appetizer. I was surprised how much calamari came on the plate. It was delicious too. Lightly breaded and flavorful and enough for a whole group to share. My mother had the chicken Marsala. Their homemade Marsala sauce was excellent. For me though the shining star was the tortellini Norma. The walnuts mixed in the cream sauce added a nice touch to an already wonderful dish. Don't skip dessert either. We got cannolis to go and enjoyed them the next morning with our coffee. Mico's is truly a gem for Torch Lake and I can't wait to go back next summer! read more

If you do have a special request or an issue, the owner is right there and does an excellent job of making sure that the customers are totally satisfied !!!! Ambiance is great. 2 of us went here for first time ever. Heard the new owners were great restaurant and entertainment people and it proved to be true. Not sure about some of the negative reviews are about but the food and service here are amazing. Not super polished fine dining service but real people putting in a hard effort with enough skill to make for a great experience. Calamari is some of the best ever. The Fishermen's stew is loaded full of seafood and savory tomato based sauce. Even the side salad had a homemade raspberry vinaigrette that was better than I've had before. The cannoli for desert was just average. The musician during dinner was very entertaining. We will stick around for main show next time. Had a group of 12 people on Friday night before Labor Day. They had several of the help call of so they were short staffed but they did everything they could to accommodate us. The food was very good. The lasagna was some of the best I've ever had. Would definitely go back. read more

Somewhere between one and two stars. Service was slow even with our trying to wait patiently in these barely past COVID times, thinking the restaurant was just getting back up and running. My dining companion had the fried fish sandwich which was average at best...I should know since she traded me for my awful meal halfway thru! I had the veal marsala, nasty is the first thought that comes to mind. Bland, gray, lifeless and void of flavor are other adjectives I'd use to describe this ugly mess of a meal they were calling veal. The manager came by and inquired why the meal wasn't satisfactory, but was overly defensive in her attempts to right the situation. Even the complementary cannoli they gave us to make up for the meal was equally boring and flat. I'm sure the place will be mobbed by families coming off the lake (which can't be seen from the restaurant) during the summer but anyone looking for a seriously good meal won't return. read more

I'm giving Mico's 5 stars because it brought back so much nostalgia for me. There is something special about that perfect dish that takes you back in time. The water permeating my pasta dish (noodles floating in water), the bland meatballs lacking any hint of flavor, the texas toast with diced tomatoes offered as bruschetta. It was all so perfect. I was instantly transported to that special time in my life when my children were 10 and 12, and would make me a special dinner for my birthday. And the nostalgia just kept coming! When I paid my entire bill, tipped the server 20%, left all - less one bite, and asked to speak with the owner. What a treat! It was like I was back in middle school. Dominic captured the essence of the low self-esteem bully perfectly. Amazing experience! If the sarcasm hasn't resonated, don't go to this dump. The owner is a megalomaniac that couldn't make a pb&j if he had a youtube video showing him how. Save your time, money, and patience. Boil mueller noodles, throw some olive oil and parmesan on them and enjoy something that is 1000 times better than you'll get from this place. Better yet, seed out some roma tomatoes, dice them up and toss them with the above. Then take it in and show mr. broadway how you use tomatoes in an Italian dish. read more

I've been going to the Torch Riviera for many years, and now that it is Johnny's (though the sign outside, and the menu still say Mico's), I thought I'd see what is new. Not the menu. Very good food. I had the Angel Hair Pasta with olive oil, garlic, and tomatoes. I'd definitely get it again. Jody greeted us and shared with our table the plans she and her brother John have for the restaurant. I am very excited to see these plans unfold in the next few months. Our waitress Bryn is very new to the job, but made us all feel welcome. Even like family! A Wednesday night in the middle of winter means it was not crowded at all, but all the food was fresh and delicious. Real Italian heart went into our meals. read more

Good, I just wish they served a side of green vegetables not candied baby carrots with everything. For the price you're paying for the dinner, it'd be nice to have broccoli, green beans or asparagus as a choice. Also if you don't want fries it'd be nice to have different potato choices such as baked or mashed, or a small side of pasta... and If you're doing low carb you are out of luck. Also they do not offer a kids menu for some reason. The chicken dishes are very tasty. We tried Marsala, piccata and the fried chicken. Just my 2 cents. Stayed in Torch Lake for three nights and ate at this place at least once a day! Owners were very friendly and easy to talk with. Over the course of several days my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed their company surrounding each and every meal. We ate the breakfast consistently, so that's what I can attest for. My full review of the food/service is as follows: Healthy portioned savory breakfast burritos, I enjoyed it as a quick start to the day, taking all of 3-5 minutes to be served hot and ready. The (female) owner delighted us with daily pastries alongside. Honestly, this would be our neighborhood spot if we lived in the area. Relaxed atmosphere, good food, decent prices. Called to order pizza, pepperoni and banana peppers, no banana peppers. Asked what meat lovers pizza they have was told it's a build your own pizza, ask for what toppings are available and was told to ask and I'll tell you if we have it(strike 1)....went with pepperoni only. Said it would be 40 minutes, waited 5-10 minutes and left my house, about 10 minutes later got a call that my pizza was done(strike 2)...good thing I left when I did. Got to there and my pizza was sitting out on a table(strike 3). Really enjoyed the pizza, crust was really good, cheese was nice and salty with the pepperoni. Pizza was 4/5 star review. Will probably try again but I'll wait to order so that it will be nice and hot when I arrive and not sitting out on a table getting cold. read more

We went to Torch Riviera for the first time since new ownership. Although the interior was freshened and brightened a bit, everything else was not good. Expected a new menu, but didn't expect a staple such as Fish & Chips (no longer all you can eat) being so different. Cod was replaced with Paddock(?), plus the "chips" were coated with I guess was a "seasoning". Not good! Used to serve a mini loaf of fresh bread, which was a nice touch. Now, on the menu was "Bread Service" for $ 3.00. Our server, Amanda (long time employee), did her best to check on us while WAITING for our dinner, the wait time was probably close to 30 minutes. I mentioned these issue to Amanda and the "manager", who advised a new menu will be introduced soon. Won't be returning, unless The Torch Riviera returns to The Torch Riviera! read more
