To the management of Dicks Sporting Goods - Headquarters division. Close this store down or fire every person that works here and start over! I shopped here since it was Galyans and the people that worked there were awesome. Since you bought it and changed the name, the store sucks. That's not a personal opinion, Galyans had fantastic ratings and the store was PACKED with customers. Why? Good Customer Service because employees were paid a small commission - so they gave good customer service. I used to spend thousands of dollars in that store every year - now, over the past 5 years, I bet I have spent less than $200. That's $50 per year vs $1,000 + You have no one in the hunting/fishing area - ever!!!! I have repeatedly watched others wait for 15 min or more for a person to help them. I have personally waited 10 minutes to get help and then the person is clueless! There used to be 3 people constantly working, selling equipment, knives, guns, shotguns, rifles etc. Now - there is NO ONE helping in that department because you've run off all the outdoor sportsmen. So there is no one at your store!!!!!! Don't you compare Galyans sales from 2002, 2003, 2004 to 10 years later as Dicks Sporting Goods? Jesus Christ, how did you get big enough to buy Galyans when your management sucks, your business model sucks and your stores suck? Fire everyone!!! You are a sorry excuse for a store and your management team is full of incompetent asses. Your store is a cautionary tale of what happens when a cheap big store buys a really good niche store for billions and then ruins it. I am not surprised that many stores getting closed and people are shopping more on line. If I could I would have given 0 stars for this store. Last two visit there were such a waste of time. The store is huge and there were barely anyone to help you. When I finally found an employee/sales person, that person knew nothing about the store and products they were selling. Very frustrating. Came here yesterday, 01/18/17 at noon to look for a Greenbay Packers present for a dear friend of mine and looked around and found NO ONE on the floor. I then saw there was only one person in line so I asked the cashier (who was very nice) if they had Greenbay Packers stuff. He said he didnt think so so he asked a guy behind the cust service desk to which he said "no we don't it's all online" while walking away without any eye contact. How rude was that employee! Never again am I patronizing this store. Maybe that explains why there were no cutomers in the store. Maybe that's why this store has a 2.5 star rating on yelp. I am relatively a regular here. I don't usually need sporting goods very often but when I do this is the place that I usually start out mainly due to the excellent selection that they have available. The store is very well organized and more often than not, everything is attractively displayed. Although i am a relative regular, I don't always make my final purchases here. When they have sales, you can snag an excellent deal here. However many times regular price is much higher than you can find elsewhere. It pays off to be an informed consumer and do your homework before coming here. It could avoid spending more money than you have to spend. The staff here has always been helpful and friendly to me which is an added plus in my book. read more

Now I know why they call it Dick's! It's because their staff is lazy and unattentive. Ok. So now you're thinking, the reviewer is talking a lot with little to nothing to substantiate a claim. Here's the deets, plain and simple. I came into the store today looking for a pair of Nike slides/sandals. You know, the dad sneaker of the summer, right? I ask the kid standing there in uniform doing nothing. He's a kid, it's obvious, and he's reading to go back to school because he could care less that I had a toddler in my arms and another in tow. I ask him where they are in a specific color. He points down to the other end of the store and doesn't offer any assistance. Ya know, whatever happened to, "right this way" or even a "let me look for you." All the while a young black employee, he works in the same department as well, just paces behind us. He watches my son's every move as if I am doing something wrong. Never asking if I needed anything or such. Nonetheless, I never did find it in my size/color on the display. So we walked out. A bit of a disappointing experience...the staff was not at all helpful (when asked about climbing gear, they pointed me in the direction of camping equipment, when it turns out they actually don't carry any climbing gear). Found it difficult to find people to ask for help - everyone seemed really busy and disinterested. In the end, I was grateful when one of the employees secretly just pointed me in the direction of a "competitor" - although I'm not sure how they are a competitor if Dick's Sporting Goods doesn't even carry the equipment in the first place. Customer service is really shabby. I walked around looking for someone to help me out for a few minutes. I found the jump ropes in the end, but it would have been nice if I didn't have to wander around for 5 minutes looking for a jump rope. I was also looking for some shuttlecocks for playing badminton, and apparently badminton isn't in season right now. That's perfectly understandable, but at a sporting goods store you think you'd be able to get equipment for playing most sports regardless of the time of year. They had a massive section devoted to golf equipment, and golf definitely isn't in season right now. They're lucky that they're the only sporting goods place nearby that I know of. read more

I'm a fan of the clearance racks! Today, I walked in, with the hopes of finding a good deal on a wind-blocking fleece jacket. I was having trouble finding anything with wind-block until a sales lady asked if she could help. I explained what I wanted, and she took me right over to the sale rack with Under Armour windblocking fleece jackets. Score! I walked away with a great jacket for a little more than $100 (normally priced closer to $200). However, don't try to buy sunglasses or watches here, because it's nearly impossible to get help at the display counter. read more

The guys at the firearms counter are friendly enough, though one can buy cheaper ammo elsewhere. I had received a mailing from Dick's on two coupon promos. It saddens me to report that Dick's customer service has done a 180 degree turnabout. We are now greeted with sincere and enthusiastic attention by knowledgeable sales clerks who vigilantly scan the aisles for confused shoppers. I received more than satisfactory guidance buying a pair of athletic shoes. The clerk pulled at least eight pairs and patiently waited for me to decide between the final two candidates. On another visit the manager himself cheerfully found us just the right football. I honestly can't say anything bad about the new Dick's. What will I do with myself? Dick's management and staff, If you'll excuse me I'll keep my snotty review up. I still get a chuckle out of it. And it just might motivate someone to stay on their toes. read more

Been coming here for years and have spent a small fortune. Came to renew my water usage stamp. While here I also picked up $100 worth of clothing. Clerk asked manager how to ring up the renewal, did it, then told me to wait for the manager to print the stamp. I waited and waited and waited as the manager kept ringing up customers. With more customers lining up I see the manager say in the headset "tell him the machine is down". Original clerk walks over and relays the message. Why wasn't he told in the first place the machine was down? Was it even down to begin with? Got a refund for the usage stamp then said to myself why even give them a dime and requested a full refund. Baseball gear area a total mess. Adidas baseball pants Buy 1 Get 1 50% but looks like a tornado tore through the rack. Ask for helping a 2nd pair of pants. Was told "if it's not there we don't have it". Would not assist in search. Ordered bat online. Note said would ship in 48 hours. Five days later has not been packed to ship. On with customer service - they tell me to expect delivery by 3/28. As I ask more questions - what city is it shipping from? when will it be packed? - now I am told "expect delivery by 3/31". What just changed? Why two additional days? Rep cannot answer. She'll get a manager after a "brief hold" -I have been on hold for 24 minutes and still on hold........... 32 minutes on hold manager picks up. Ask for his full name or employee #. This place has just about every type of sporting good you can possibly think of....and then a whole lot more. Huge store, two floors and a rock climbing wall. Love their workout wear selection. Ooo and I've had my eye on that punching torso for quite awhile now. Could definitely work out some aggression beating the heck out of that thing. Dick's is pretty pricey that's why I tend to get my workout equipment from Play It Again Sports but this is definitley the place to go for outdoor sporting goods. read more

Once they changed this place to Dick's it lost a bit of quality in both staff and selection...slowly...and now I only go here if I'm really desperate. For what it seems like to me, it's more of a sports apparel store than it is for anything else. There's TONS of clothes, and shoes, and some gear that I could see. And I suppose that's a good thing, though I'd probably want to do my research on serious gear for hiking or whatever it is you're looking for and then go to a specialty shop before you head to Dick's. I'd compare prices, shop online, etc. If you're in a hurry, it's got a good location, and though a lot of the items prices will make your eyes pop, it may be a good option for some. One pro of this place is that it's got rollerblades. Last summer I was desperate to find some. Back when rollerblades were hot you could even find them at Wal-Mart. So that was the first place I went to look for them. Sadly they only had a couple pair of crappy little kid skates so I ended up heading to Dick's where I found some. All were pretty pricey. You can find better deals online, but it was great for trying on the skates and being able to find out what my size is now that I'm older and have larger Godzilla feet. I even had room enough to skate around a little (the skates are on the second floor by the way). The one thing that really urked me that has urked me before is that the staff is useless. In this particular instance I asked 2 people where I could find the roller skates/rollerblades. One pointed me in the wrong direction. Another had no idea they even carried rollerblades. The third person was working in that section and was glad to show me to the boxes but when I asked for a commendation he had no clue whatsoever to tell me other than to read me the price tags and admit he didn't know the distinction between the models. Massive place with inconsistent floor staff. First time in a Dick's and was awed by the scale of it. Just immense. Then I had one good floor help experience and one poor floor help [non] experience. One guy was responsive and attempted to be helpful in answering questions I had about specific items. Well done. Next, I was considering an impulse sneaker buy, but there was no one to be seen anywhere within 25 yards of me. On my way out I saw there were 5 teenage Dick's employees playing pick-up basketball around the corner from the sneaker section. Probably a good thing to keep the $ in my pocket anyway, but not good news for Dick's mgmt or stockholders. read more

Nobody around to help in the camping section on the second floor. I wanted a sleeping bag that was hanging on the wall, and there wasn't any of the kind below it. That would make too much f-cking sense. I wandered around looking for someone to help for 10 minutes while looking at other camping stuff. During this, I randomly came across where the sleeping bags I wanted were stored, which was nowhere near the sleeping bag display. Awesome. A shopping cart would be nice so I didn't look like a doofus carrying around and dropping a ton of crap. But I guess that doesn't make sense with 2 stories? I came here to get a set of golf clubs regripped. Unfortunately there was only one person working in the golf area - even though we're in the height of golf season, and golf is clearly an important section of the store. I wasn't able to get service, as there were many customers ahead of me, so I simply left to find a local golf store that would fit my needs. I wish I could say that I liked this place more, the store is huge & they have tons of sporting goods & sporting apparel, but the floor staff seems to be spread very thin. I recall not too long ago wanting to try on a pair of shorts, needed staff assistance to get into a fitting room, but there was no staff nearby for as far as the eye can see - and I have pretty good eyesight & can see pretty far. Finally found someone behind the guns & ammo counter, but at that point was too frustrated & too embarrassed to ask the resident weapons expert to help me with my potential pants purchase. Ended up buying a similar pair of shorts at Old Navy where I was able to find an unlocked fitting room. read more

Shopped at this location today. There were lots of employees in the store and no one ever helped us. We were upstairs in the north face department. I tried on probably 6 jackets and the girl standing at the computer less than 5 feet away NEVER even spoke to us, she instead sat on a computer laughing while browsing Facebook. When we went to stand in line there were several employees talking at the customer service desk while we waited in a 4 person long line at the ONE open register. Having two children who are actively involved with travel team baseball,fastpitch as well as basketball I often find myself needing sports equipment. Dicks has a great selection of items and most of the top name brands your looking for. If you absolutely can't wait and need something right away you 'll find it here. It's all about customer service and advertising products and specials appropriately. Dicks falls short on this latest round. Went to store to use final day of $20 off any one purchase over $100, looked at all the items listed that were "NOT INCLUDED" and the Cubs jersey we were buying has NOT on that list. Picked up about another $90 worth of items and went to the register. Store manager would NOT accept the $20 discount . Guess us also being short by $10 on the other items (non Cubs jersey merchandise) didn't warrant the $20 off. Hmmm, curious why he didn't just say "sign up for email alerts and receive 10% off your $200 purchase...wouldn't that of given them our another one of our emails for future promotions and we get the $20 off? So, very poor customer service Dicks manager. We left our merchandise at the register with the manager that stuck to their policy which we never saw anywhere in writing and left the store. Bought the jersey off Amazon. So much for shopping local. UPDATE 12/16/15 Customer service at Dicks reacted very quickly to my concerns and tried their best to rectify. Majority of apparel and items are overpriced. While that is not necessarily on the shoulders of just this particular location, it is 2018, you have to at least try and compete with online markets. I do not require much customer service, the locations of items are labeled well, and so on, but the store is generally in disarray. Learn from Sports Authority and take the time to make improvements in appearance and pricing.. we are already overpaying for products we can go elsewhere for, cheaper so employee friendliness can go a long way as well. read more

Every time I go to Dick's, my immature friend thinks it would be funny for me ask a random staffer, "where are your balls?" Of course I tell him he's a jackass and reply with something like "I don't need to buy any, but you should exchange your blue marbles at the dollar general." Anyway, I agree that the staff is not readily available and visible. But I kinda used that to my advantage when buying a pair of McDavid ankle braces at $55 each. I just popped open the box and tried them on just to make sure they were the right size. It is nearly impossible to sprain your ankle in these. I'm giving 4 stars because I had a great exp with them. I came in on a Wed to get my tennis racket strung and needed it by Fri. The manager said it usually takes a week to get them done. But, the manager, Aaron, was nice enough to check if there were enough stringers on duty. He gave me a call on Thur telling me it was ready for pickup. And it only cost $5. I would give 5, but I'm knocking a star off because of poor selection of shoes and no basketball jerseys. read more

Expensive. Clueless staff. If you're looking for anything out of the ordinary , say cross-country skis or mountaineering stuff, don't bother. You're much better off sticking with specialty stores (like REI or Erewhon) where people actually seem to know something. And even some basics don't seem to be there. I looked for swim goggles here.
