They had my shoes in stock, but when I went to the shoe department, there was only one person working and he was just standing there and not helping anybody. I asked if he could help me he said yes, and then stood there when he went to get shoes for me. He literally threw them at me and left. Got a great deal on the shoes otherwise I would've left. Then I went for checkout and he didn't say one word to me. I will never go to this location again. This is one of the smaller Dick's (pun not intended duh) as it is atypically housed in a 1 story strip mall building.  The store is still deceptively huge and I learned it's still sizable at about 60,000 ft2 (a dimension which I can't really relate to anyway).  They still seemed to have everything you might expect though the wife thought maybe their clothing inventory wasn't as extensive as at a bigger store.  The staffers were helpful.  This store is out of the way for us but we came up here as one of the kiddos is a participant in the Northbrook Girls Softball Association and they offered a limited time 20% off promotion applicable only to this store. They had a good supply of youth size cleats, one of the items on our shopping list, and the girls also took the opportunity to do a mini shopping spree on some of their clothing and swim wear.  Thumbs up on the store and thank you! read more

Had a great experience at this Dick's in Northbrook. My mom and I went shoe shopping and she bought me a pair of rather expensive Brooks shoes. They fit great in the store, but after walking in them all day, they hurt my feet and I had to bring them back. When I went into the store to return them or to exchange them, they could not have been nicer. It was a newer shoe that they just started carrying and they wanted to know my opinion of them i told him it was a great shoe. It just did not fit me well for a long day on my feet. They called someone in the shoe department to help me. He found a fabulous pair of Brooks that fit me perfectly. I have not been wearing them all day and my feet feel so much better. I was a little concerned about exchanging the pair my mom had bought me because I did not have her credit card with me, but there was absolutely no problem. The shoes I bought were $16 cheaper than what my mom had spent, and it automatically got credited back to her credit card. Best experience I've had buying shoes in a long, long time. Great team, great shoes AND Bug League Chew Our daughter needed some soccer shoes and we just got her a pair. The kiosk with its "scan the barcode and we'll bring you the shoes" is nice! The gentleman who found the shoes was polite and helpful and got us the shoe-in-the box that matched the one on the shelf. They fit our daughter just right and will alleviate the blisters she incurred from her other pair. There was a pricing inconsistency that Manager Megan NICELY resolved. Thank you, Megan! Staff was very helpful and approached me immediately to see if I needed assistance. They were patient as I tried on several pairs of pickleball shoes. The selection was a bit meagre as there were only a few brands and not available in my size. They explained they reduce the selection in the fall (primarily outdoor sport) but it's very important to try the shoes on which is why I came to a physical store rather than order through Amazon. I ended up purchasing a pair one full size larger than my normal size. read more

The cashiers are rude and not costumer service friendly. The store manager came to the front and was very rude to us and the rest of the people in line. Instead of helping the lines move in check out she would play on her phone. We asked for help and her comment was I just train them I don't do the register and to wait patiently. Well, that was easy! Just another reason for me to really appreciate this location near my house. Shopping in the time of Covid was a breeze, and I kind of hope they keep it up. My teenage boys have been bugging me for 15lb and 25lb dumbbells, so they can "pump some iron" at home. In case you didn't know, locating weights like these is impossible. They are sold out everywhere! About a month and a half ago I put in an online request to be notified when the store received some in stock. Today I received an email that they got some in the store, but in limited numbers. I quickly went ahead and placed the order online and selected curbside pickup. Turns out when I actually placed the order, there were only 6-25lb weights available and 4-15lb weights available. Wow, that was fast! I purchased them with Paypal, and then opted in to receive a text update for when my order is ready for pickup. The pickup couldn't have been easier! I received a text that the order was ready. I was prompted to click the link upon arrival to let them know I was there. I pulled up to the sign that said curbside pickup and clicked the link. Two employees came out with the weights and put them in the trunk. I never even had to get out of the car! I asked one of the employees if the weights were all sold out, and I was assured that they were! What a score on my part. Shopping at Dick's couldn't have been simpler. Love this store. read more

Hook and bait. Two items listed as on sale and when I went to the check out, I was told neither were on sale. Deceptive practices.

Here's what you need to know: it's all about the service. Going to a national big box store like Dick's is never about the selection since there homogenized. What makes one store location better than the other is the service. Michael at the register provided some of the best service one could ever ask for. Thank YOU! I went in to buy a tennis ball carrier/retriever and new racket grips. I was hoping that somebody could re-grip for me as I'm not experienced in that. Unfortunately they only sell grips, and do not provide re-gripping services. Sending that I would not be comfortable or able to do it on my own, Michael took his own time (after checking with the store manager) and re-did both of my grips for me. No expectation of anything in return. Just great service. Thankfully I went on a quiet a Friday afternoon so there were no guests waiting and it allowed me to get the benefit of Michael's full attentionS What amazing service. THANK YOU! read more

It's an odd time to write a review in the covid19 time. For deliveries restaurants I don't want to judge if it's not what you would normally expect etc. or write a review when they provide a service we all need and understand is not at full capacity. But in this day and age of self containment you turn to home gyms or figure it out as you go styles of exercise. Being a gym membership guy and someone who runs and bikes outside which groups who are now on hold I decided to upgrade my at home options and ordered online for the curbside pickup option and BOOM it was flawless. Order online you are given email and text alerts when it's ready and then call or press a button to alert them you are in front of the store. Terrible experience at Dick's Sporting Goods Northbrook! I bought an item for $60 as a gift for my husband for Father's Day. He went to return it, and they refunded him only $30! He didn't know how much it cost, so he just figured that was the correct amount. They had our account with the phone number to look up the receipt. But they somehow goofed up and gave us only 1/2 the amount saying we didn't have the receipt, even though they did have the receipt. They never said they were refunding only 1/2... they just gave him back 1/2 without saying anything about it. It took 2 more trips to get it resolved! ... and they didn't offer us anything for our trouble. I'm never going back there. read more

My son ruptured his eardrum diving and we needed an item called an earband so that he could dive again. I went into Dick's knowing this was going to be a hard item to find. I asked Nancy at the checkout if she knew if they carried earbands. She said she didn't think so but would check in the back. She returned after a few minutes to tell me that they did NOT carry the item. She then offered to help me locate a place that did sell it. She was so patient and helped me sort through all of the sites to find a seller that would deliver in under a week. This may not seem like a big deal, but it was. Instead of her saying, "sorry we don't have it, have a nice day!" , she helped me find the item. She was so kind, so generous, and truly wanted to help me. This was is so unusual today. Store Manager Anthony was a complete professional. There was an issue with a jersey I had them put on hold for me. One of the associates mixed up a girls jersey with the men so I made the trip to ultimately be empty handed. A Khalil Mack Jersey for men is impossible to find ...literally sold out through NFl.com, Bears Pro Shop, Other Dicks locations. He was able to find one jersey, albeit a different color, to have something before Xmas. Not only that but he took down my information and has been following up with me to make sure I get first dibs on the blue color which I wanted. His customer first approach will have me go to Dicks again and I'll make the trip to this location from Chicago just to show my appreciation for their 5 star service. Excellent team. With sports authority going out of business I now have to turn to Dick's for my sporting good needs for my father. Nice welcome when coming through the door. Went to the golf section and saw some shirts and socks but confused on the signage with the sales. One rack says buy one get one 50% off, a few other racks say buy one get one free. Take 2 pairs of socks and 2 shirts. Got to the cash register to make sure if the sale is buy one get one free, he says "yeah probably". Scans the socks, says the socks are buy one 50%. That's fine socks weren't crazy expensive. Then scans the shirts and says they too are buy one get one free. No apology or offer to make the sale a little bit better. Not a great experience when I make sure about sale before I buy and they say yes then when they scan the product it's different. Could have scanned it first to see if they weren't sure. But that's what happens when you have kids running the register, he also just put my shirts in the back without folding them semi neatly. When I suggested he make sure the signs are correct to no confuse other customers he just shrugged it off like yeah I'm sure someone will adjust it. Will probably look elsewhere next time I need go shopping for sports apparel. read more

This is a sporting goods store in the CHICAGO area that fails to recognize a CHICAGO sports team. ZERO White Sox jerseys in the entire store. And like 50 Cubs jerseys. Absolutely disappointed in my local Dick's. There are five Chicago Sports teams and they should be represented equally at the store. This is inexcusable. read more

They provided a thorough description of the equipment and didn't pressure us at all while we were comparing different options. I wanted to buy a bike for my child, and someone was assembling it. The whole process was taking some time and I was at the store with my husband, a toddler and a small baby. In the middle of assembling the bike, the person got called by his manager to help with loading something for another customer and he just left for a long time. The manager said something along the lines of "it is what it is" when I told him that it's hard for us to wait in the store with a toddler and a small baby, why does he leave in the middle if he was working with us first (and there are other available store workers). We did not buy the bike and I told the manager that I will leave a review for this experience, he said "ok". read more
