This is perhaps just as much a review of all Dick's as it is this one in particular. I bought an air mattress from them online but had to return it due to a defect. When I called the main customer service line, they said it had to be returned in person to the store. When I brought it back to the Petaluma store, they accepted it back no problem but didn't have a replacement in stock and gave me a gift card for the cost, told me to come back at a later date. I decided to check stock availability online over the next few days, and after a few days it finally said that they had limited availability in the Petaluma store but not any others nearby. So I stopped by, only to find out that they did not actually have it and that the website jumped the gun, since they weren't receiving a delivery of products until early the next morning. The guy there said if I come by at noon the next day, they would be there. So I came by at noon the next day and a different person informed me that there weren't any, that they likely already sold out and that I should just keep checking in again and again when they get new deliveries because they don't know in advance what will be delivered each time. I'm sorry, what? Isn't that the point of listing stock on the website? To make matters worse, the guy wasn't apologetic despite my obvious disappointment and his way of explaining it was just to say that that's how it's always been with Dick's. Sorry, that's not a very good excuse to a customer. At this point I basically am stuck with this gift card and no clue when I can get the product I want. First of all, I am angry that I went to a big box store and on thanksgiving day. In the the future, I will boycott those stores. My complaint with Dicks are their policies on purchasing guns and ammo. If you are a second amendment follower, you will find that Dicks has created their gun control laws that go way beyond state law. Specifically, law states that you must provide proof of residency to purchase a gun. Not at Dick's. At Dick's you must provide a state stamped document with your physical address on it that has an expiration date. So, if you have a PO Box and a company vehicle that you use, that does not have your home address, you are hosed. Everywhere else, a utility bill is fine that has your home address, but not at Dicks. They require you to go to DMV and change it. That is B.S. What are they apologizing for? I have an issue with companies that make their own rules above state law. That would like a bar only selling alcohol to people over 25. Funny, in the last year I got my passport, house refinanced, bought a rifle with no problem. But that is not good enough for Dicks. Well, I won't darker their door again. Also, was lied to by two employee's about items that were supposed to be sold out, but in asking another employee only to find out that they did have the item. I am not blaming the employes for lying, as they were there feeding the corporate machine who were likely far away enjoying the day off. Typical bait and switch. They said they had a kayak in-stock in the display book at the store, after finally finding someone to help out he says, " I can check in back, but I don't know why we have that book, we only have what's out on the floor". After about 45 minutes of looking for the "in-stock" item both online and in the warehouse, its no where to be found, except at the store in Dublin. I say great, have it shipped here and I will pick it up, nope, they won't do that. The "manager" told me that they can't ship it from store to store and if I want it I have to pay more than the kayak in shipping costs to get it delivered or wait 3-4 weeks for them to get it shipped to Petaluma from Dublin(an hour and a half drive). If I didn't have a non-refundable gift card, I would never visit Dick's again. As it is, I will drive to Dublin to pick up the "in-stock" item. Worst customer service ever, any other sporting goods store would be better. This chain store is properly named! read more

bought a basketball hoop for my daughter for her birthday over two months ago!! Paid to have it put together and apparently a part was broken, it has been sitting in my driveway for two months collecting dust!!!!!! Very poor customer service. Tried to get help locating a product the website indicated was in stock. Had to wander around to find an employee, who had no idea what the item was and sent me to the other floor. The other two employees I asked for help also had no idea what I wanted even after I showed it to them on Dicks.com. No one tried to find it with me or for me, and it was very clear they just wanted me to go away. Ordered what I wanted from Dicks.com, but even that transaction had issues. Never again. read more

I normally wouldn't write a negative review, however my experience at dicks was disappointing for sure. I went in about 40 minutes before they closed and the store looked 100% empty except for the employees that all didn't seem to want to help me. I asked for a Swiss ball and trx accessories and the employee let out a big sigh and glared at me because I interrupted his conversation with his coworker. He told me he'd never heard of what I was asking for so he walked me over to the bike department where the employee there decided to tell me that obviously I'd have to get that stuff on line, and how I should have said a "balance ball". My bad bro, do you even lift? Any way I find what I need and go to pay. I only had cash on me and the actually super nice cashier told me that she was out of ones just as she was closing the register drawer. I offered to trade her four ones for the five that would be the rest of my change. She said a manager had to access the drawer. The cashier called "steve" at least four times to bring change. I didn't want her to keep feeling bad so I left my change that was only like $3, but I still think that is no way to run a business. Looked like a cool store but I won't be back because of their poor service. read more

Terrible customer service or no customer service every time I've been here. After today's experience I will not be returning to Dick's. The dressing room door did not lock so I was worried someone would walk in on me the whole time I tried clothes on. I pushed the "help/if you need assistance" button from inside the dressing room NUMEROUS times & no one ever came to help me- although a voice said out loud that someone would be with me shortly each & every time I pushed the button. Far too long of a wait! No one ever did actually come to my dressing room to assist me! What's the point of having an assistance button if all the employees are just going to ignore it? I was very interested in several pairs of overpriced pants but I needed a different size. Too bad no one could help me, I got tired of waiting, so I got dressed & did not try anything else on. The staff here is preoccupied & some of them were even rude. I saw tons of staff all around the store, none of which offered to help me find anything or even acknowledge my existence. I told Chloe at the register about my bad experience shopping at Dick's again & she could really care less. Shop anywhere but here! I found tons of similar cute work out pants next door at TJ Maxx for 1/3 of the price. Never going back to Dick's. read more

Big store very poor service. The line at checkout was very long, with only one checker: it was brought to the attention of an apparently idle employee who just walked away. Just walked away. I took my two children to purchase Shin Guards and Soccer Cleats and it was a BIG mistake! I understand that people throw around shoes and such but this place was a mess! That's not why I decided to review them. It was the awful customer service. I asked two different employees and one manager and NONE of them was willing to help! The women was rude and trying to walk away while I was still speaking. They would NOT help me or anyone else for that matter. We had to find the matching pairs while the employees were have conversations amongst themselves. Not one Cleat had a matching pair. We left to go to Big 5 and what amazing customer service we received. Extremely organized as well and some amazing employees they have. read more

I have tried, tried and tried again to like this store but consistently bad service and selection has proven to be the acceptable way to be. Last nights shopping experience was the final straw for our family and if we can we will never spend another dime in a Dick's sporting goods. I have two daughters who play soccer, basketball and softball at the competitive level.The Christmas lists always have bats, gloves and other gear on them. The softball section had maybe three gloves for older players and the bats had the same or less of a selection. Meanwhile baseball takes up almost the entire area. At least 100 gloves and well over 40 different bats. After trying to find someone to unlock the bats and answer general sizing questions for over 15 minutes I finally tracked someone down (who was standing with 4 colleagues at the front chatting) he walked down with me, said he would be right back with keys and never returned. Track down another young man, he unlocks them but only knows baseball....he was at least nice and tried. Mind you we were ready to spend well over $400. This is indicative of how I have been treated since the store opened. If you want any help this is NOT the place to go. To top it off a manager was supposed to call last night.... thank goodness I didn't wait up! read more

Dick's is fine for basics: balls, bats, ammo, golf equipment, running shoes,etc. However, it is November and they have almost nothing stocked for men's rain gear. I say almost nothing because they have a few small and medium sizes in their stock of North Face and Columbia jackets. Pretty sad. Time to hit the freeway and go to REI. read more

We recently identified a really nice girl's mountain bike on Dick's online store at an excellent price and were able to call the store, have them build it and hold it. The technician, Richard, called us about a week later to say it was ready. When we got up there, he adjusted it, put a kickstand on, answered a bunch of silly questions and then walked us through the warranties and checkout. We had gotten an email coupon that was (strangely) only good for 1 day - so it had already expired - but Richard honored the coupon and took another $10 off. While there seems to be very few staff on the floor to help (e.g. in the shoe dept.), they do have a system where you can call for help. All in all though, the bike department and specifically Richard, were awesome! read more

Bad. There is never anyone around to help. Employees just walk around and gossip with each other. They give up too easily on finding products in the warehouse. My daughter needed a new bike and we decided to try Dick's Sporting Goods in Petaluma after looking many places for a decent quality, reasonably priced bike and coming away empty handed. Beginning with the first phone call to check on what bikes were in stock, I was incredibly impressed by the customer service and the care that we received from all the employees. Everyone was extremely kind, helpful, and professional and we were finally able to find a bike that was perfect. read more

The staff is okay but the bald manager has an attitude of "I am the sh** and you are wrong" And I met the store manager ut i had to stop him in order for him to help me out! And all he did was send me to somebody else when he could have easily shown me where the soccer shorts were! Departements are nice and organized and the staff is knoweldgeable since I assume they know all of their section but not others.
