This is my first time to this store as the staff is friendly but i think they could do better to get my 5 stars. I asked where i can find a particular item at the cashier and they pointed me to the proximity of where the item is. I normally go to Ace hardware on Sepulveda blvd. where they would give me a better customer service and actually walk me to where the items are. When i went in, i was the only customer there and the 2 employees were sitting idle at the front. read more

This place is pretty good. Not quite as good as lincoln hardware in my opinion, so although good, I had to give it one less star as a relative rating. Small , friendly local hardware place. They also have a lot of stuff for old fix up items that are common in the area, but not common in all hardware store.....i.e. window sash hardware that was used in mar vista in 1950 etc. Parking not as easy as Lincoln hardware, but traffic is less of a problem than it is on Lincoln Blvd which is always a drag, read more

I've bought many overpriced things here and then today, I park in their lot and go next door to buy a cup of tea. When I come back about 15 minutes later, a guy that works there said his boss has called a tow truck for my truck and one other car. I made it back in time, but I'm not sure about the other car. I will not shop at some place that tows someone after 15 minutes. I will not shop at some place that threatens to tow someone. What ever happened to leaving a note not to park there? Towing someone's car away is an extreme measure. So much for the friendly neighborhood hardware store. There are plenty of hardware stores around...and cheaper...and they don't tow. read more

They certainly have parking and good looking handy men. But frankly I don't think they're for work. I asked a guy for help, he sighed with such discus and by the time he was done catching his breath the little old he was helping actually had the answer to my question before he did. This place is awesome--super helpful employees, and a good selection of spray paint, including Krylon, which seems strangely hard to find on the westside. I love small spray paint projects :^) Also, there was a huge dick of the LA variety there at the same time I was, and he was treated incredibly politely by two employees despite being an ass. read more

i stop in quite often since it's across the street from the post office. not as busy as b & b hardware or home depot, so you can get help quickly. sometimes they'll have a big dog roaming the aisles, so don't be alarmed. one of their best buys are replacement price pfister shower knobs (verve). each knob comes with all three screw covers. update 5/27/08: no more cheap shower knobs, but an additional star for remembering my birthday for the past couple of years. also they have parking behind the store via the alley on grand view or centinela. read more

I definitely like this place better than the crazy B & B Hardware. It's close, friendly and they enough stuff to fill all your basic hardware needs. What more can you ask for in a neighborhood hardware store. read more

I've been in a couple/three times since moving to the MV and its been great. This last visit takes the cake. The guys at the fixie bike shop didn't have much in the way of hardware to attach a rack to my bike, but the True Value folks invited me and the bike in and someone spent about 15 minutes with me to find the right bolt/washer/lock nut combo. Price = $2.45. Great service. Granted the store was not packed, but still, that's some dedication. I'll always try them first. Thanks, y'all. read more

I needed a straight forward place to get keys made on the cheap. Of course, I turned to Yelp and found this place. Easiest deal in town. $.69 per key, took about a minute for the whole deal to go down. Just head to the back of the store to the key counter and voila! Keys! read more

This is a cool little hardware shop that has everything!!! I needed a couple items and found everything I needed for my move. It's not a huge store like Home Depot - which I prefer and it's not overwhelming. Also, service is great. The guys were super helpful and I also found my items at a discounted rate. house keys made for ONE DOLLAR!! i had two keys made and it came out to TWO DOLLARS! called home depot/lowes ahead of time and it was going to be 2 dollars and change for each key. metered street parking available. the guy at the key counter was super helpful too. i had a question about my garage door opener and he was quick to explain what i should do. read more

This is a great store if you're in the neighborhood. The staff is really friendly and there are enough of them around to help people. The only downside is the store doesn't carry quite as much stock as a Home Depot. For instance, they had the item I was looking for, but I had to buy a lot more than I needed because they only had it in one size. That said, I spent $6 instead of $2, which wasn't a big deal. They stock a ton of gardening supplies including veggie and flower seeds, plumbing supplies, paint and whatever else you'd want. read more

Recently moved into this area, needed some duplicate keys made, and found this place from Yelp near by. Reviews seemed good so decided to give it a try. The price for keys has gone up from the reviews made in the past. years. It's now $1 per key (tax included). The guy making the keys was nice and quick. In and out in about 3 minutes. There's also free parking in the back. Much appreciated in Los Angeles. There's also a back door and the key maker is right next to where you entered. read more

This shop is in my area and usually has always delivered when I need tools, hardware, or paint. Not too pricey but a bit up there. Definitely not affordable. $10 for a screw driver?! Customer service needs improvement. If you know what you need the shop is alright. read more

Got a key made here and it barely works. I have to turn it really hard and I'm afraid it will mess up my locks. The original works perfectly. Keys are really easy to make, I think they just don't care about doing their job. read more

Went in to buy paint. Limited color selection. Didn't have the paint I wanted in a flat finish. Dont sell paint in sample sizes so you can test several colors. I don't understand why everyone feels it's so important to go out of your way to,shop at a place other than Home Depot when the service is not as good. I went in cause I needed a couple keys made for two different cars. I wanted 3 copies for a Toyota. The template key was one that was a copy of a recreated key. When I got the copy I wanted to use as a template I was given a couple choices for blanks and I picked the one that was prettiest, which turned out to be a GM blank, but it works just fine. However because the template was GM the guy refused to make all three copies that I wanted because he only had Toyota blanks... The car was a Toyota. A Toyota blank should work. But he kept insisting that he wouldn't not make more then one copy and he wouldn't guarantee any of them would work. (I was using the other car so I couldn't test the copy). I would rather the moderate risk of losing $4 if the keys don't work to the guaranteed loss of the time and gas money I have to spend finding another locksmith to make another copy of the key. The second key was for a Buick. He made it just fine, didn't say anything about it. I test the key (cause this is the car I drove) and it will open the door but it will not start the car. So I took it back in told them I had just bought the key, and asked them what was up, and the guy took out a little gadget and tested to see if the key had a chip in it... which it did. Isn't that something they should test for BEFORE they sell you the key? I would think the fact that this key will definitively not start your car is a much bigger deal then this copy may not be able to open the car. The guy who tested the key didn't offer any kind of "oh sorry we really should of told you that ahead of time, let me make it up to you deals or anything." All in all I left feeling cheated and like going there was a waste of my time and money. read more

Not sure what inspired the one reviewer to give only one star. No single hardware store (and that includes Home Depot and other giant stores) is going to stock everything, I'm in hardware stores all the time, and if I had a nickel for every time Home Depot did NOT have what I needed, I'd have enough nickels to retire. Dick's True Value is (relatively) small, but they have loads of household hardware ... and more. I've been shopping there for years, but more often now that B&B (my favorite for 40 years) has been having problems(?). Unlike at Home Depot, you will always easily find someone to help you in Dick's Hardware, and unlike at Home Depot, shopping won't be a long project. I'm not sure if they still do it, but Dick's used to have a UPS shipping service, too. Dick's has metered parking on Venice Blvd. and free parking behind the store. Prices at Dick's are as good or better than at Home Depot, and they're a local business. Nice, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful people ... excellent service ... local business ... works for me! read more

I've been a customer here for many years. They are about the least expensive place to get keys duplicated. Their price on window screens and window glass is competitive, They also let me come in with my dogs which is a big plus. Their selection is a little limited so you might have to go elsewhere for more esoteric items. They are also very willing to order products for you. Even when B & B was in its prime, Dick's was my first stop. read more

I have been looking for a 'kitchen drum.' I needed 10-in. drum. Home Depot only carries 8-in. and cannot special order a 10-in., after spending over two hours calling and being transferred from department to department. B&B didn't know whether they had a 10-in kitchen drum (globe for light fixture). But Dick's True Value Hardware does than the kitchen drums in stock. Thank you. read more
