Smothered fries -- if you get the top ones they're tasty.
    Bob S.

Table was ready when we arrived despite a packed house on a Saturday. Service was great. Appetizers/small plates for 2 (they also have 4) were huge. Appetizers were kind of spicy so when the smothered chicken burritos arrived bland, we were pretty surprised. It might be because they're adept with shredded chicken -- there's no choice other than a tofu faux beef -- but it was like the chicken came from a can. Fortunately we were stuffed and could fix it at home. The Tres Leches dessert was insane! If you go to Diego's and don't order it, you're an imbecile. We might go back just for this dessert. Really. It was that good. The house margarita was average -- also bland -- and the frozen piña colada was light on the taste as well. Service was fabulous though. Very knowledgeable and attentive staff. Menu needs work.

Vegan Nachos were tasty but they forgot my jalapeños

I'm super curious about who's loving the food here. Like, I'm not even being cheeky; I want to know! Diego's Cantina is owned by the wife and husband who own Frida's and Station No.3. I was never a big fan of Frida's food, but Station No.3 wooed me, so I wasn't sure what to expect from Diego's, but I was hopeful. Ambiance: 8/10 The restaurant is beautiful. Evening service is dim, so it could be great for date night or those allergic to bright lights. There's a small patio if you like outdoor dining. Food: 3/10 Vegan Loaded Nachos were fine in taste but lacking in the "loaded" category. For over $15 you get a ton of tortilla chips (some overcooked), topped with refried pinto beans, a little corn, a little jalapeño crema, cilantro, and lots of white onions and shredded radish. It's supposed to come with jalapeños too, but they forgot them. (I asked for them and just took them to go with the leftovers) I've never liked cheese, so it didn't really bother me that there wasn't a vegan cheese; I would've omitted it anyway. But I can hear vegans complaining about this; most people love their cheese. If you want to add black beans or vegan steak seitan, it's gonna cost you a few dollars more for each. Small guacamole. The taste was fine, but for $5 I'd like more than a nano-scoop. Vegan Street Corn - just burnt corn. My friend and God-sister are both meat eaters and got fish tacos. Each complained about the lack of flavor and seasoning. One was even so brazen as to ask our waitress who was cooking the food. That was too much, but the answer didn't surprise us. The waitress admitted that Diego's serves "healthy Mexican." So if your palette is on the bland, no flavor, no spice spectrum, this is your place. For me, Imma need them to have several seats, preferably in front of a spice cabinet. We ran into some friends whilst leaving who proclaimed, "We come for the drinks. The food sucks." And that folks, about sums it up.

Diego's unfortunately fell pretty short of my expectations. We each ordered just about the cheapest options on the menu, and it was still around $40+ each for dinner. This is definitely an UPSCALE spot, but I just didn't think the food quality and quantity was any better than a typical Mexican restaurant. Our server seemed tired and stretched between multiple tables so it was hard to get ahold of her. They also charge you for a refill of chips which felt a bit criminal. The only redeeming factor for me was the ambiance was a unique theme and very nice decor concept. However, I'm mostly here for the food, so I won't be returning to Diego's anytime soon.

This place nails it! The atmosphere was fantastic. We started at the bar (chillin' and chattin'), and then moved to a table. The server took us to a booth, but we requested to change to 1/2 booth, 1/2 table which suited us better. They were very accommodating. The cocktails are PERFECT and I love the large selection. The food was AMAAAAZING and enjoyed by all! The service was good and the prices are, IMO, reasonable. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

First time at Diego's was pretty good. The queso was delicious as was the mojito. The birria chicken taco was underwhelming. I didn't care for the green sauce and it was kind of bland. The rice and beans were average. The fish taco and the veggie taco were good. Got dessert for my bday. Overall had a great time, the service was prompt and friendly. The place looks great. Will be back.

Walked in to a charming and cozy venue at happy hour. Bar service was great! Bartender was attentive, knowledgeable and personable in a customer friendly way. The drink selection is phenomenal and well prepared no matter if you enjoy a cocktail, beer or wine. Served alongside a few chips and salsa and happy is the hour! The menu is more upscale from usual Mexican food, but vegan!! and gf!!! or not! and more little plate choices for each dish. Great choice for south of the border dining out!

This place is really cute. The food is ok..the only thing I really like is the chicken enchiladas. The queso, although exciting when it arrived to the table, was just ok. The highlight of this place is the margaritas!!! They are amazing! My favorite is the Purist! Omg!!! And the bartender is amazing! I have literally tried all of the drinks and they do not disappoint!

As a vegetarian, Diego's has definitely been one of my favorite restaurants in St. Louis so far. The ambiance is here is amazing, good music, gorgeous interiors. The staff was friendly for the most part, except for our waitress who kept making snide remarks at a member of our party. I love love love the amount of vegetarian and vegan options that they have, and that almost everything can be modified to be vegan, from the queso, to tacos, to nachos. The food was quite good as well! I loved the crispy beef taco especially. The beans and rice, however, were kind of bland. I will definitely be coming back to work my way through the menu

Cozy with classy decor. Service is a bit slow, however there is a sign on the hostess stand with a note about being short staffed. The staff looked busy so I'm sure they were doing their best. My wife ordered a margarita and said it was excellent. Fish tacos are amazing.

Ambiance- 10/10 it's beautiful inside Service-6/10 honestly I think the server wasn't happy we didn't order drinks and just drank water. It almost felt dismissive and we had to beg for refills of our drinks. Food-4/10 it's just meh. It's grossly overpriced for everything you get. Is it edible? Yes. But almost $7.00 for one street taco- craziness. My burrito was large which felt better matched to the $14 price tag. Did I mention absolutely zero sides come with these prices? Everything n is a La carte so your dinner can get super pricey real fast. The salsa was absolutely disgusting. Would I come back? No. I get better Mexican food at chimis and that's not saying much.

I made a reservation and was surprised to get a text beforehand letting me know our table was ready. When we arrived, we were promptly seated on the patio. Our waiter was quick to come over and give us menus, water, and salsa & chips. The chips were warm and good, but the salsa was just ok - a bit bland and zero spice. We ordered some drinks - the paloma, a margarita, and the smokin' hot. We were asked if we wanted floaters for the paloma and the margarita. Then our waiter told us about some of their popular apps and we decided to get the queso flameado. Lighting the queso on fire was a bit of a let down because we were outside and there was a fan right by us, but the guy who delivered it to the table made it comical. The queso was delicious and did not disappoint! For meals I got the enfrijoladas and the others got the chicken burrito. For the chicken burrito they were asked if they wanted cheese on the side or smothered on top (not sure if it came with the meal or not), but they both got it on the side. The enfrijoladas were delicious and the ingredients tasted very fresh. The chicken burrito looked good. Throughout everything our waiter was personable and making a lot of jokes. I started to wonder if it was a requirement of the job. When we finished with our meals we said we wanted to get more drinks, but I thought we were going to let the waiter know which ones we wanted - instead he just brought each of us the drinks we already ordered. The waiter had cleared the chips & salsa, but brought us new chips & salsa (on the house) to go with our drinks. All in all I thought it was a pretty good experience. Like some of the other comments here, it felt like there was a good amount of upcharging on already pricey meals. But the quality of the ingredients was great.

    Intro to Diego's
    Dranoel W.

This was a place I've been eyeing for a minute and was given a surprise birthday treat by my gf for dinner here. I liked the ambiance with the artwork, music and the greenery they used. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. He even suggested to wait a bit for happy hour (our reservation was 7:30 and happy hour started at 8). And was very clear and detailed about the menu options. We got queso blanco, guac, corn, a few tacos, a couple of 'My Wife's Margarita's and a sangria. Major points on presentation of food. The queso blanco wasn't as hot as expected but tasty. And the tacos were okay. I like the shrimp taco the best. For dessert, we ordered a tres leche cake and a complimentary scoop of ice cream, which was good. It was a good experience and the server made us feel very welcome.

    Amazing Pineapple jalepeno margarita

Diego's interior will knock your socks off. It is gorgeous and so well decorated! That was my favorite part. Our server was great and so were the cocktails. The food was good overall, but it depended on what you got. We mostly ordered off the happy hour menu. We had the quesadilla, queso, costra de Camaron (my favorite item), Diego's carnitas (very good), and a chorizo taco. For drinks, I had the pineapple jalepeno margarita and My Wife's margarita and both were fantastic with the pineapple jalepeno margarita being my favorite. We sat inside right by the doors that were open to the patio and it was such a nice spot. I want to come back and sit in the beautiful back room!

We had a party of 4 but manager wouldn't seat us until the 4th person came into the building. It's petty because each table seats 2, 4 & 6+ It didn't make sense. So if you're dining here and your party is sitting in the car or outside YOU WILL NOT BE SEATED UNTIL EVERYONE IS AT THE HOSTESS STATION, smh. Waiter Service Our waiter was Sam. I think he was one of the best waiters I've ever had at this restaurant. Sam had knowledge about all the new items on the menu. He made sure our dining experience was great. Food Our waiter Sam suggested the NEW Banana Bread Griddle Cakes because I love their Banana pancakes. The Banana Bread Cakes came with caramel sauce but I love their Tropical syrup. I did try a small amount of caramel sauce and it tasted homemade, very good. The Cakes were fluffy with slightly crispy edges. The texture is dense almost like pound cake. The flavor is slightly sweet but not overly sweet like cake. I felt like it was missing one ingredient maybe the caramel sauce was the missing ingredient. There's no banana on the inside like the original banana pancakes. It's like banana bread. The Banana Griddle Cakes is a one & done for me. I love the original banana pancakes. The Spinach Feta Omelette & Banana pancakes is my go to order every time. The last couple of times I ordered the omelette I noticed their using a smaller amount of ingredients but it's still yummy.

I got here at 9:30 and after standing at the door for a minute it was then I realized I could seat myself. The place is smaller than I imagined and due to limited seating, the only open option was an unbussed booth. I managed to wipe away the crumbs as best I could and then someone came and cleaned the table.. After that, the server came over, introduced herself and said she'd be right with me. When she did, I ordered the #2 from the breakfast basics with a small orange juice. Up until that point, everything was going fairly well. All of a sudden, I see this rush of people coming and going. Some walked in and stood there hoping someone would get up while they happened to be waiting, while others put their face to the glass to try and see in. Mind you, the booth I chose, which was the only one open, is right by the window. So not only do I have people hovering over my food, but then I feel the stares of people outside the window. It was uncomfortable and speaking of which, this can also be said about the booth seats. The saving grace was my food coming but unfortunately, my eggs didn't have any cheese like I requested. I informed the server and they were able to put some on. The stares and dirty booth were enough to make me hightail it out of there. But alas, no trip to the diner is complete without it being cash only! Thankfully, they have an atm inside but be prepared to incur a $4.00 fee. The food itself was pretty good; the atmosphere? Not so much.

My partner got protein oatmeal (contains PB) and the southern comfort. The oatmeal can come hot or cold and was a great portion if thats all you wish to eat. The SC was underwhelming because the waffle was thick as well as the gravy. I got the chicken and waffles and can agree the waffles are thick and have a slight sweetness. The chicken tenders were dry for me but if they marinate the chicken then it could be a great improvement as the batter is seasoned. The venue is obviously noisy as the patio is on the corner of euclid so you hear and see it all on one of the busiest intersections of the CWE. The venue has accessible seating and family friendly restrooms.

I initially visited this place because it's a rare downtown restaurant with great street parking so I always knew I could find a spot (huge plus!). My first visit I tried the blackberry cheesecake stuffed French toast but It didn't seem like it was truly stuffed with any cheesecake. It had some on top though and the flavor was still great, just a bit dry. I should've gotten a bit of syrup on the side. I washed it down with an iced French toast latte that was crazy good so I ordered one to go. Finally my server was Molli and she was just perfect. Sweet, talkative, and attentive -- oh and to top it off she saved my butt after I left my credit card there. I hope she sees this because I appreciate her! The next two times I visited that week I was craving oatmeal and they delivered in an elevated fashion. Their banana walnut oatmeal is decadent. I love boring oatmeal at home but it doesn't have to be boring. Half & Half elevates this humble dish into an incredibly tasty experience. I can't get oatmeal at other places now! I washed it down with some OJ that was just alright. It doesn't taste like it's freshly squeezed in house like other breakfast spots in Clayton but it's hardly a complaint. For some reason, the waitlist online was not available so we could not get on the list ahead of time so I am not sure if they took that down or if they just turned it off or what. But that didn't bother me because I was willing to wait if needed. Where Half & Half is located is on a really busy street in Clayton and you really only have the option to find a street parking spot. Maybe you get lucky and find one out front? Or maybe you are like me and need to park 4-5 blocks away and take a little walk. Either way, you can find parking if you are willing to walk a bit. Upon arriving, there were already a ton of people waiting to be seated so I already knew it would be a wait. I talked with the hostess and added my name (party of 2) to the list and was told it would be about 30-45 minutes wait. The restaurant is not very large, so on a cold day, I did not want to wait outside. Instead, I was able to find a little spot in the corner near the bar and just tried to take up as little space as possible while waiting. Eventually, I received the text that our table was ready and so we made our way to the hostess stand (had to make out way through crowds of people who were also waiting) and then the hostess walked us over to our booth for two. It was just perfect for us. Tim, our server came over right away to greet us and offered us coffee or other drinks. Once we ordered, he gave us some time to review the menu and went on his way to grab our drinks. When he came back, we were ready to order, and, of course, I think I had a difficult order, but Tim made it possible and wasn't even bothered by request. I really just wanted a smaller portion of the Clara cake (to share) and then I asked for a scrambled egg and some turkey bacon. I thought this would be a complicated order, but he made it work and I am so grateful for that. My hubby ordered one of the hash bowls with steak. While waiting for our food, we enjoyed coffee and Tim made sure our cups were filled. He even brought over some bailey's for the coffee for my hubby to add since I ordered a mimosa as my cocktail of choice. When the food came out, it was all so fresh and delicious. I legit love the Clara cake so much and it really made my birthday super special! The eggs were super fluffy and the turkey sausage was also good. Since I did not finish my meal, Tim offered to bring over a box and a bag and then he made sure we were all set before he gave us the bill. Since the restaurant was still super busy, we did not hang out for much longer after paying. Instead, we paid, packed up and were out the door. Honestly, the food is always my favorite here. But this visit was even extra awesome since Tim took such good care of us. Servers are busy and I appreciated how he took good care of us. Thanks to Half & Half for the delicious meal and thanks to Tim for the service! I'll be back.
