Everything was fantastic -- the smoothie wasn't overwhelmingly sweet and all the food was really good. Food presentation was pretty too! It was a little busy, so there was a short line, but it moved pretty quick. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Great place for breakfast. My friend is currently obsessed with their scones which did look good. No scone for me, I got the soft scramble. Don't brother... I came bere wanting to try a new spot and left more hungry than I came in. The website gives off the appeal like it's this spacious coffee shop but when you walk in, it's anything but. It's small, like really small. There were people everywhere, which caused utter chaos because you didn't know if they were coming or going or trying to order. Since I had no idea it would be this busy, I snagged the first open spot I saw at the bar. I saw there was a QR code and figured maybe I'd have to order there. Nope. I made eye contact with one of the people behind the counter thinking she was going to bring a menu but instead, she was looking at the open tables (which might I add, weren't a lot since so many needed to be bussed). I finally asked the guy sitting next to me if I needed to order here or go to the counter and he said the counter. I made my way over and was finally able to order. I went with the classic and added in cheddar cheese for my eggs and avocado. I was given a number and I went back to my spot at the bar. Believe it or not, I waited a really long time. Each time I'd hear the bell ring, I grew anxious hoping it was mine and was let down each time. There was a time where the food runner came out with what I thought was my food. When I asked her she rudely said, "no". Not trying to be petty, but her response made me not even want to eat my food whenever I did get it. Finally, after watching others get their food before me even though they came in after me, my food arrived. This was the most basic plate of food I've ever seen. Considering it comes with two eggs, it looked like 1. I ate a few bites and then realized this wasn't worth it and left. From the plethora of unbussed tables, confusing way to order and lackluster service, I have no desire to ever return. All those times my late parents would say, "there's food at home", when I'd ask for certain things def. hit home today. Lesson learned for next time! read more

Went here for a work lunch the other day and was shocked that a spot of this quality and price point had escaped my notice so close to the office! So many great things to say about Colleen's. There's plenty of seating inside and outside and a robust menu of affordably priced lunch items. You order at the counter where you are given a number to find your own seat with. Our food came out shortly and I was again thrilled with the portion size. While the cafe does get busy, it was never too loud to have a natural conversation. We sat inside because it was raining, but the street outside also would have been quiet enough for us to conduct our casual meeting. Finally got the chance to try Colleen's for brunch and it was super cute! I enjoyed sitting outside on the small patio space and the menu was much more extensive that I would have thought. My caramel apple chai was delicious! It's a nice casual ambiance in a central location, but it does get very busy on weekends and can get fairly loud inside. The service was quick, but it's pretty much just an order and pay at the counter set up. The bagel and lox was okay, but I'd probably try something different the next time I visit. read more

It's sometimes hard to place a restaurant when it kinda falls in between the numbers. For me Colleen's falls in the solid four star category and a definite recommendation. It's a big WashU hangout, so expect college kids every where. Not a bad thing at all in my book. They are conveniently located off the highway and nearby downtown Clayton. Parking is all street and challenging, but free. The building that houses them is perfect for the area. My first and only visit was this past Spring with my son who is a WashU student. He frequents and recommended. On a weekday mid morning it was busy! Many enjoying brunch at outside tables as we walked in. The place is not big, but can suit small groups. There were a few empty tables all cleared and clean. Grab a menu and get in line to order. The service was very friendly and welcoming by the young lady. I got a cappuccino , fruit smoothie with sweet potato hash. The coffee came out first and was yum! I found the smoothie refreshing. The main took 20 min + or so. I thought a bit too long. Once produced by a runner I was more than ready to chow down. The taste was enjoyable, but I've had this dish done better at other places. The minced potatoes was a miss for me. I'm not a huge biscuit person but this was great - really good flavor even if a bit crumbly and made for an excellent sandwich when paired with egg and ham. I was so full that I didn't need to eat again until midafternoon. I was staying nearby and got the chance to walk over to Colleen's for breakfast before starting my day at work. I was warmly greeted despite all the snow on the ground at the time. Found this gem one morning when I decided to Uber indulge a breakfast delivery. I was so impressed I decided to come in person two days later and I'm so glad I did! Colleen's is a cute little spot tucked away - I probably have driven by it many times before I finally saw it and decided to stop in. For such a small place they have a huge menu! Great meal options as well as sweet treats and drinks. I was honestly a little overwhelmed and couldn't decide what to try. For meals we got the breakfast burrito and a breakfast biscuit with cheddar and bacon. I like that both of these items were customizable based on your breakfast meat (or veggie) preference. The biscuit sandwich was a little dry, but luckily that person working the counter suggested getting a side of jam with it which was delicious! The only disappointment was my chai tea latte. Normally this is my go to morning drink but this one was pretty watered down and didn't taste great. I'll be back to try more menu items and load up on some sweet treats! read more
