Stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning and it was great! We got coffee, a smoothie, scone & I enjoyed the avocado toast while my friend got the breakfast sandwich. Everything was fantastic -- the smoothie wasn't overwhelmingly sweet and all the food was really good. Food presentation was pretty too! It was a little busy, so there was a short line, but it moved pretty quick. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. The staff was friendly and though there was a bit of a wait for our food, I think the ambiance was perfect for a slow Saturday morning. Can't wait to come back and try different things! read more

Great place for breakfast. My friend is currently obsessed with their scones which did look good. No scone for me, I got the soft scramble. Still not sure why it is called soft but it was delicious. 2 eggs on bed of arugula with avocado and toast on the side. I also got golden milk latte which was good. Loved my food and drink but prefer if portions were slightly larger. FYI- order at counter then they bring food to table. read more

Across the table, the grilled cheese hit all the right notes: melty, gooey center with a crisp, buttery edge, paired with a simple greens + tomato + parmesan side salad that actually tasted fresh (not an afterthought). Gosh I love Colleen's. It's really the perfect place for brunch and catching up with friends. I always see so many happy faces when I'm there :) I most frequently order the biscuits and gravy with the eggs. The portion size is perfect and it fills me up! Stopped in for a quick lunch with a coworker and loved it! I got a sandwich with a side of the figgy potatoes -- omg, those potatoes were incredible. All the sweets in the case looked amazing too, so naturally I walked out with a big bag of cookies to take home. The gooey brown butter cake and the death by chocolate cookie were both phenomenal. This was our first time going here. We went here to pick up some pastry and soups. This place seems like a good place for breakfast. The chocolate chip cookies are good. The potatoes soup has great flavors- I did not take a picture. The other pastry we had also tastes great. The staff here are nice and friendly despite being busy this morning. With those bodega-like graphics and generic branding, I would walk right by this place but I'm so glad I didn't! The latte is superb along with the assortment of delicious scones but the real star of the morning is that ham & cheese croissant! Don't let the smallish size fool you. Don't brother... I came bere wanting to try a new spot and left more hungry than I came in. The website gives off the appeal like it's this spacious coffee shop but when you walk in, it's anything but. It's small, like really small. There were people everywhere, which caused utter chaos because you didn't know if they were coming or going or trying to order. Since I had no idea it would be this busy, I snagged the first open spot I saw at the bar. I saw there was a QR code and figured maybe I'd have to order there. Nope. I made eye contact with one of the people behind the counter thinking she was going to bring a menu but instead, she was looking at the open tables (which might I add, weren't a lot since so many needed to be bussed). I finally asked the guy sitting next to me if I needed to order here or go to the counter and he said the counter. I made my way over and was finally able to order. I went with the classic and added in cheddar cheese for my eggs and avocado. I was given a number and I went back to my spot at the bar. Believe it or not, I waited a really long time. Each time I'd hear the bell ring, I grew anxious hoping it was mine and was let down each time. There was a time where the food runner came out with what I thought was my food. When I asked her she rudely said, "no". Not trying to be petty, but her response made me not even want to eat my food whenever I did get it. Finally, after watching others get their food before me even though they came in after me, my food arrived. This was the most basic plate of food I've ever seen. Considering it comes with two eggs, it looked like 1. I ate a few bites and then realized this wasn't worth it and left. From the plethora of unbussed tables, confusing way to order and lackluster service, I have no desire to ever return. All those times my late parents would say, "there's food at home", when I'd ask for certain things def. hit home today. Lesson learned for next time! read more

Went here for a work lunch the other day and was shocked that a spot of this quality and price point had escaped my notice so close to the office! So many great things to say about Colleen's. There's plenty of seating inside and outside and a robust menu of affordably priced lunch items. You order at the counter where you are given a number to find your own seat with. Our food came out shortly and I was again thrilled with the portion size. While the cafe does get busy, it was never too loud to have a natural conversation. We sat inside because it was raining, but the street outside also would have been quiet enough for us to conduct our casual meeting. Finally got the chance to try Colleen's for brunch and it was super cute! I enjoyed sitting outside on the small patio space and the menu was much more extensive that I would have thought. My caramel apple chai was delicious! It's a nice casual ambiance in a central location, but it does get very busy on weekends and can get fairly loud inside. The service was quick, but it's pretty much just an order and pay at the counter set up. The bagel and lox was okay, but I'd probably try something different the next time I visit. read more

My friend and I had a nice visit to Colleen's for coffee and pastries! There was a short line to order that moved quickly. I ordered their signature caramel latte and my friend ordered a latte and cookies. They had a buy one get one free cookie special, so he got two sugar cookies for the price of one! We grabbed a seat and our lattes were out shortly. My caramel latte was deliciously sweet and creamy! The space itself is quite roomy with lots of natural light and fun pops of color. It's sometimes hard to place a restaurant when it kinda falls in between the numbers. For me Colleen's falls in the solid four star category and a definite recommendation. It's a big WashU hangout, so expect college kids every where. Not a bad thing at all in my book. They are conveniently located off the highway and nearby downtown Clayton. Parking is all street and challenging, but free. The building that houses them is perfect for the area. My first and only visit was this past Spring with my son who is a WashU student. He frequents and recommended. On a weekday mid morning it was busy! Many enjoying brunch at outside tables as we walked in. The place is not big, but can suit small groups. There were a few empty tables all cleared and clean. Grab a menu and get in line to order. The service was very friendly and welcoming by the young lady. I got a cappuccino , fruit smoothie with sweet potato hash. The coffee came out first and was yum! I found the smoothie refreshing. The main took 20 min + or so. I thought a bit too long. Once produced by a runner I was more than ready to chow down. The taste was enjoyable, but I've had this dish done better at other places. The minced potatoes was a miss for me. Overall it's a great place and must return for many more items on their menu that my son loves. The relaxed vibe is one of the best things going for it. I'm not a huge biscuit person but this was great - really good flavor even if a bit crumbly and made for an excellent sandwich when paired with egg and ham. I was so full that I didn't need to eat again until midafternoon. But the biscuit was very flavorful, the menu was a good execution of all the classics well as some new twists on those classic breakfast options. The ham and egg really complemented the biscuit well. Snickerdoodle was yummy as were the macaroons (cotton candy, chocolate cherry, blackberry and cookie and cream. The golden milk latte hit the spot! And the service was friendly. Great local cafe and friendly service. Lots of varieties of cookies and other pastries along with a breakfast & lunch menu. There are a few outside tables and several indoors as well. Staff is very helpful and friendly and knew the menu well. I had a beet salad and several cookie varieties. The s'mores cookie was my favorite and all (raisin oatmeal, chocolate chip, and salted M&M) were good. The beet salad tasted fresh and was a reasonable portion (not oversized but not skimpy) and came with a slice of focaccia. read more

I was staying nearby and got the chance to walk over to Colleen's for breakfast before starting my day at work. I was warmly greeted despite all the snow on the ground at the time. It didn't take long to receive my order of a chocolate croissant and Americano with vanilla and half and half. The Americano was good but I've had better. The chocolate croissant was very flaky and delicious but I really wish I would of asked if they could heat it up a bit. That would of been the chef's kiss! read more

In Clayton, walking distance from The Ritz, if you're staying there and want to eat at a cute, local, cafe. I frequent here with my pup and sit on the patio when the weather is nicer, and sometimes have lunch dates with my dad, as the location is convenient. * Upside: friendly staff and tasty iced lattes * Small Downside: 1) small patio and people like to hog the tables, and 2) menu items change, so what's picture here (hummus toast) was not on the menu last time I was there! Found this gem one morning when I decided to Uber indulge a breakfast delivery. I was so impressed I decided to come in person two days later and I'm so glad I did! This unassuming corner cafe is steeping in gourmet breakfast and lunch cuisine. Everything is made from scratch by artisan chefs who clearly take pride in their work. The atmosphere is casual. Food and drinks are ordered at the counter and served t at your table. Staff clears the tables. My date got the quiche of the day and couldn't say enough good things about the flavor and texture. Perfection! I got a vegetarian breakfast burrito with sweet potatoes. We both sipped hot tea al fresco. We indulged in the homemade chocolate chip banana bread and I defiantly recommend! Delicious vegetable quiche accompanied with a lovely salad & orange slice. The dish was filling but not at all heavy. Easy four or more. Really liked the feng shui of the place, the space, and the area was really nice too; kind of sort of reminded me of York or Bath in the UK. Coffee was good enough as was the Monte Cristo too. Was a few small unmentionable misgivings but otherwise very good. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Colleen T.

Colleen's Owner, Colleen Thompson, was asked to make 250 cookies for a charity function. Having no experience in decorating cookies, she pulled out some family recipes and went to work. The cookies were so well received, a company was born. We explain the success of our cookies based upon "it's all about the taste". A few years ago, we expanded to a wonderful cafe that sticks to our goal of providing delicious food, bakery items, and fantastic hospitality.
