You know it's a bad sign when you are shopping with your mother, look up in the distance and see her speed-walking in the opposite direction. This happened to me last Saturday. She was almost in a sprint, I followed her for a bit, then she completely disappeared. I wondered if she had vanished into thin air; couldn't find her anywhere. Let me back up just a bit, I recently went shopping with my mom. We were in the Galleria-area and on the quest for shoes. (Yes the actual, stereotypical "shopping for shoes" thing that we females flock to like moths to a stereotype. No, we did not drink martinis afterwards, nor compare favorite episodes of some vapid television show.) Even though Nordstrom's was the early winner on this quest, we just had to verify by stopping in fake Macy's (Foley's) and fake Dillard's (Joske's). After looking at the shoe department at Dillard's, we browsed the rest of the store. Found out that they carry a large selection of Oilily. Awesome, but expensive. We also saw a sweater (decidedly non-Oilily) on a mannequin and as this was nowhere near the "for sale garments," my mother went to ask a salesperson where we could find the item. This is where mom's running through Dillard's comes into play. I had wandered into a nearby clothing department to look at a dress, while she went to the "BCBG area" of Dillard's. Long story short. Mom asked the employees standing in the department where she could find the sweater on the mannequin. The two girls in the section were busy talking on their cellphones. They told her they didn't work in Dillard's. She asked why they were standing behind the register. They said they worked in the BCBG section of Dillard's. My mom asked if that area was in Dillard's. They told her to go find someone in another area; this new person would be able to help her. My mom sped-walked to another area (here's where I lost her), and found a young employee hovering near the register. My mom was told, "It's over there, I think. Somewhere in the blue-green area." What I want to know is, why does Dillard's hire employees who don't care for the customers? Customer service at this Dillard's is always hit or miss. I never know how the employee is going to react. However, this was some of the worst customer service I've encountered anywhere in quite a while. It would seem to me that in this fiscally panicky time, we as consumers would be given excellent customer service. You know the entire, "We love you! Please spend your money with us. Please." Not the, "OMG! You just interrupted my four hour phone call." I'd been noticing that the brands, variety, and quality of clothing has been decreasing slowly over the past couple of years, why would I want to go someplace that would also treat me and my mother so rudely? My mom and I got the hint: go to Nordstrom's for quality and service, go to Dillard's and get punished. The one positive to this store is the parking garage. It's the best place to park if you want to shop on the Neiman's side of the Galleria...just watch out for the cars when crossing at the cross walk. read more

When I first moved to Texas, the love for Dillards confounded me. I just didn't get it. Why, oh why, would you go to an upscale JC Penny's if you have other choices? That was before the horrors of my wedding registry. Let me explain. In Korean culture, you don't give wedding gifts, you give cash. Lots of cash. So I grew up thinking that was normal. Then I moved to the South. People down here have registries for everything. Everything. And they expect things off of registries. So when my wedding came around, I knew I had to go through with the awful task of compiling things to put on a registry and the inevitable questions came up: What is seen as too tacky? What is too pricey? What seems frivolous? What will be easy to re-gift (don't judge, I know you do it too)? What do we need vs. what do we want? I was miserable just thinking about it. Plus, coming from a non-traditional family meant that I didn't grow up with china or silver or crock pots or whatever else is seen as "normal" registry items. I had no idea where to start. Luckily, the Dillards people had a better idea than we did. We ended up picking out everything that was "us" while still following some of the normal conventions (didn't want to give the in-laws a heart attack before the wedding). They gave us one of those scanning guns and we went nuts adding things to our registry. And when we came back, they loaded everything to the computer and we could access our registry online. From there, she showed us how to add, multiply, and subtract items. Plus, she nicely reminded us of things that we'd completely forgotten about. After the wedding, we had a bunch of exchanges (as in thousands of dollars worth of exchanges) and they were so nice about helping us with all the work. They took back everything without question and gave us gift cards for our spending pleasure. We immediately went over to the home furnishing section of Dillards and bought ourselves a great bed and still had money left over! I originally thought that Dillards was just like any other store, but with their affordable prices and great customer service, I enjoy going over there (even if it requires walking across the street from the Galleria). They have home furniture, bedding, kitchenware, clothes, shoes, make-up, purses, ahhhhh! Enough to keep me busy for quite some time. I'd also like to add that not one of my gifts broke in the shipping to Alaska. And the shipping back to Texas. Those are some good wrapping skills. Plus, I have to support them since my husband went to school with the Dillards and I have a stinking suspicion that when I meet them at his 10 year reunion, they'll have a radar to see if we actually shop at their store! read more

Horrible return policy! I bought a pair of shoes and returned them after 5 days and they didn't accept it. The shoe was already in a bad condition when I bought them. I should have taken a picture :@ The salesman told me that returns will be accepted if worn only on carpeted floors. Today some stuck up shoe manager points to dust on the shoe and says it is worn. Dust! Will probably never shop at Dillard's again and even if I do will never ever buy shoes there. read more

Dillard's is The worst retail store in Texas. When it comes to returns. I bought a dress for my daughter's 16th birthday mid February so I had 30 days to Return based on their policy. Word of the pandemic started early March the Rodeo was shut down and everyone was in a panic. I definitely was not thinking about going to Dillards to return a dress. I'm just now feeling comfortable to get back in and make some return's. Stores just opened up. So here I am And Guess what of course they won't return it. All I asked for was a store credit. There are so many other dress shops for my high school daughter to shop at. NO need to come back to Dillard's. They always seem to disappoint. Oh wait I forgot. I could have come because they were the only Damm store still open on Westheimer when everyone else was closed and at home. There was a PANDEMIC. I don't even think this store deserves one star. If there were NEGATIVE stars, that would be my rating. Are employees here hired just to chat with other employees and totally disregard and ignore customers? The feeling at this store is just so unwelcoming. Employees are unprofessional and come off as rude. They laugh and horse around with each other and don't even bother to walk up to a customer when she has a question and instead barely even acknowledges that she needs help. I was so angry upon leaving this store. I would much rather spend my money elsewhere. Customer service is the pits here, especially when compared to Nordstrom, which is just across the street and has much higher end brands. This Dillard's needs a revamping, with its employee training and possibly management as well as store design and layout. Do not shop here if you find value in good customer service. Went to return two items, tags still attached and had a pretty terrible experience. The first employee I finally saw in the women's department told me I would have to walk to another section of the women's dept to return the items. Stupid since they all use the same type of registers and have the same return procedures, but ok. I finally find another employee and explain I need to return two items that I decided not to wear and after barely looking at the jacket and pants, the clerk tells me I could not return the pants because it was "unwearable". I asked the lady what she meant since the pieces were brand spanking new, tags still attached, she closely inspected the pants and said "you see this right here" pointing at a small imperfection in the stitching, "these have been worn." It was pretty obvious this was a minor manufacturing issue, but the manager and store clerk would not budge and treated me like I was trying to pull a fast one on them. I asked about the jacket I purchased but she wouldn't let me return that item either. I explained to the manager again the items had not been worn, but she insisted that they had been because "we don't put merchandise in this condition on the floor" in a very rude tone. My response to her "so in other words, every item sold in Dilliard's is free of imperfections?" She didn't acknowledge my question and told the store clerk to put my items in a bag, after doing so the store clerk wouldn't hand me the bag, she just hung it on a rack near the register and wouldn't make eye contact with me. So buyer beware, if you purchase something from this chain be sure to break out your magnifying glass and white gloves to check for any manufacturing imperfections. read more

I came here to get fitted for some suits. The man who fitted me did an excellent job as well as the taylor who made to alterations. We went where there was a 20/30/40% off sale. Buy one get it 20% off, buy two get 30% off, buy 3 or more get 40% so we got a great price. The lady in the dress shirt department actively helped us find my size shirt. From what I have noticed about most department stores their associates are only as helpful as their managers. This store has done an exceptional job in training their associates in the men's department. read more

Dillard's is my favorite shopping store. I went to the Mac counter in Dillards and I guess since it was a slow day the workers were coversating with each other. I didn't know that they worked there until I asked because when I enter their location know one acknowledged me. I asked if they could help and that's when two of the ladies acknowledged that I was there. They turned out to be very nice and helpful. However, one of them was unfriendly and acted like she was upset that I disturbed them. I will go back if I need something and in the area, but I hope the rude one isn't there. Sales associates need to be plaeasant. Before going to the Mac counter I went to the perfume section and purchased my Terry Muegler cologne, those ladies were so nice. We had good conversation. The day before when I was there one of the sales clerks helped me find a mens cologne for one of my male characters in my new book. read more

Absolute WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I tried to exchange a dress that clearly had a defect that was coming apart at the seam, and they interrogated me, sent me to 3 different departments only to accuse me of wearing the dress and refusing to return it. Their store policy says they will return anything with a manufacturer defect, and they do not stand by their store policy. Now I'm stuck with a $200 dress I can never wear. read more

This place has a good selection, a nice price range and has great sales during the extra off clearance sales. The selection I really look at is the 200 to 300 range for a work or night time dress. This place has a great selection for this. My major two issues for this place is cleanliness and staffing. You always have to look around to check out, the staff are very slow to clean up clothes and sanitation is definitely not important to this Dillard's. I just had my first and last shopping experience at a Dillard's at this store. I'll give them two stars because the store seemed fine and they were having a good sale on men's dress shirts. Unfortunately the customer service was unbelievably rude. A sales lady in the men's room actually refused to let me try on a dress shirt because then she would have to repin it. Mind you, this is not me inferring this, she actually took the time to explain to me why she didn't want to help me. I have been here a few times to shop. I used to shop at the Clinique counter and the ladies were always pleasant. I have shopped at the James Avery stand, and they are always helpful. The store is pretty organized, and it has multiple levels. Every time I enter, I am greeted by the sales associates. Not happy with the ccustomer service at this Galleria location. Presented on 2/16 to exchange an item for a different size. THe man that helped me was named Armstrong I witnessed him be rude to a couple ladies in front of me and then proceeded to do the same thing to me. He informed me that the item I needed to exchange was a "3 day return" which I was not told whEn I purchased it. He reminded me of this at least 7 times. His attitude and behavior was unacceptable. When I told him his behavior and the Return policy were not okay, he said "sir, Dillard's been doing this for 20 years". Finally I spoke with a manager an bout his behavior, all the other employees seemed to know how he treats customers bu nothing has been done. read more

Just had the worst experience ever at a department store. Dealt with a manager named Irma in the shoe department. I was trying to return a pair of shoes. It was not the fact that she would not let me return them, but it was her snotty attitude. I always liked this store because it was easy to get into without fighting the Galleria mall. I had a ton of questions and a problem, and he not only came out to greet me in a timely manner, but he bent over backwards to assist me with my complicated problem so that I came out with a smile on my face. She didn't know how to put the exchange credit into a gift card the manager was rude as well no one apologized for being so rude. I bought a pair of pants from this location that didnt quite fit my husband. He only had them on for about 10 mins before realizing they weren't comfortable. The next chance he got, he took them along with a sweater and the receipt back. He was greeted by a "manager" named Terry who was rude, inconsiderate, and unprofessional. He grabbed the pants from the bag and declared them "damaged" due to a wrinkle in the thigh area on the leg. He said they couldn't take them back like that. My husband explained only wearing them briefly when i brought them home to which Terry rudely replied, "well you should've tried them on in the store." He then sarcastically asked my husband, "would you buy these with the wrinkle in them?" My husband replied "well, no cause they dont fit like im trying to tell you." Terry then LAUGHED and denied the entire return. He told my husband to go to the "cash dept." on the 4th floor to discuss the issue after speaking to another woman to verify if they could be accepted like that. (Now for a manager, him having to get clarification on the "rules" he seemed so cocky and sure about proves alot.) My husband called me upset saying he was very shocked at the service of this "manager" considering we always shop at this location and are always greeted by very nice employees. (Especially Henry in mens.) i ended up calling this location and was transferred to mens, Terry answered. When i asked how to spell his name, he again LAUGHED. I then asked him who i could speak to above him to report his unprofessional service to which he gave me a number to an operator which took him quite a minute to find. He gave me a name of Patric Stark which i will be contacting and we will find a new, more customer friendly, Dillards to shop in. We live in the Galleria area and used find this location the most convenient but looks like we'll go back to Memorial City to give them our business because the extra mileage is worth good service. I understand having a protocol or guidelines to follow, but his sarcasm, laughter, and disrespect was extremely uncalled for and will let everyone know that they can find better service in another location than the Galleria thanks to Terry. read more

If I could, I wouldn't have given any stars. I have been a loyal Dillard's customer for several years. Growing up, this was the only department store where I would shop. This is no longer the case as I am thoroughly disappointed with (1) Dillard's return policy; and (2) the service I received when trying to return a pair of poorly manufactured Heels that I had only worn once. I bought the heels on a Saturday to wear at a wedding that night. By the end of the night, the material covering the heel of the nail had peeled off and the nail tip had come off. I paid $170 for these heels (by Vince Camuto-link is provided at the bottom of the review) with the expectation that they would, at the very least, last more than a few hours. I purchased these heels on Saturday afternoon and wore them that night at the wedding. The following Tuesday, I went to Dillard's with the shoes in the original box and presented the receipt to the sales associate. When I presented the receipt and explained why I would like to return the heels, he replied that he would do no such thing, and went further to suggest that I could not have worn them once given the condition of the heels. I would have accepted store credit, or even another pair of the same heel because it could very well have been a manufacturing defect that caused the heel to peel off. Compared to my experience with sales associates and the return policy at other department stores, such as Nordstroms, this experience was simply appalling. Gift cards I purchased were empty. The customer service clerk made me feel as though I was trying to scam them when it was their cashier's error! I wasn't given the courtesy of an explanation and was asked to leave the cards I HAD PAID FOR with them until the managers conducted an "investigation". Two days later I pick up cards but was asked to wait about 20 minutes for them to be handed to me as if I were a criminal. The conceited customer service clerk didn't even apologize! This is shocking and I'd hate to think I was treated this way because of some prejudice feelings. I'm beyond not ever shopping there and telling everyone I know about this! read more

Dillards started to close at 9pm, my wife had shoes in hand she wanted to try on real quick, the clerk said NO WE ARE ABOUT TO CLOSE! my wife said Ive been looking for an hour and have a couple to try on, she said NO WE CANT LEAVE UNTIL YOU DO. my wife said well ok I'll take a picture with my phone so I can find these when I come back, she said NO WE'RE CLOSED, by now it was maybe 9:05. So my wife said I'll take a couple of pics and leave, another clerk said MAAM YOU HAVE TO LEAVE NOW! I worked retail before and would NEVER talk to a customer like this! we will never be back to Dillards, ever!! Considering all of the many trendy boutiques and designer brands offered in Houston, I still love Dillard's in the Galleria. Firstly, it has it's own garage. If you need to make a quick stop, it's super convenient and you don't have to face the horrid traffic in the garages on a busy Saturday. Secondly, there have been more than one instance where I've spent hours in Nordstrom, Macy's, and all the little shops in the main corridor of the Galleria and come up with nothing until I step into Dillard's. I always find a cute dress, work outfit or a cute pair of shoes. Now, I still visit and find things at the other stores, but Dillard's remains my #1 backup when I've run out of places. read more

What has happened at the Galleria Dillards?? I walked in this afternoon to a loud, chaotic jumble of sound/music from the in-store system and numerous display video monitors placed at frequent intervals around the store. The noise (no one could call this cacophany "music") was loud, intrusive and obnoxious. I made quick rounds for the necessities I had wanted to shop for, jettisoned a planned leisurely shop through the sales racks and at each register (jewelry, shoes & ladies wear) the conversation turned to how absolutely unbearable and relentless the "music" was. Who thinks this is a good idea?? Apparently, the Store Manager who just happened to overhear my complaint. He told me, in essence, that it was my problem. Dillards has always been a reliable store with decent brands, helpful but not pushy sales people and reasonable prices. I was met with an atmosphere of absolute chaos this afternoon and very disheartened sales people. What a hell hole. Did I say I won't go back yet?? Full disclosure: I love rock music, tolerate clever rap music, R & B, country, classic, etc. I have blown the speakers in my car on Free Bird. What is going on over at Dillard's Galleria is, however, disturbing. Very disturbing. I won't go back. Fortunately, there are other department stores in Houston. read more

I still love the large selection of clothes, but the third floor was sorely understaffed and the clothes were stuffed on the racks. Half of the 3rd floor only had one sales lady, therefore only one dressing room was open. Galleria Dillard's management needs to realize they are one of the largest stores in the Galleria NOT Steinmart!! Omg and the sales lady had to use a bent coat hanger as a dressing room key!!!! I'm 9 months pregnant and although a gentleman instructed me that I could make a return at any register when I approached the men's department the sales person working there refused service making me have to walk up 2 floors to a difference department where they did provide service. I won't be coming back again. If you cannot provide customer service for paying customers you should be working in retail. read more

My rating is a 2 star because I am just going to refer this review for their Mac cosmetics counter. I have to say I usually always get my Mac at Macys but if I need a limited edition and they run out I look to Dillard's. Now, I really think Mac needs to really consider who they hire for register because every time I call they have no idea what I am talking about when I call about these LE. You would think people would now what they are selling. When I called today the lady that answered the phone had no clue they launched this new line so I asked her of she knew when they would. Was then lectured by Ms Ari Morelos about what the computer said as to how many it showed they had in stock. How and why would I know that? I am not looking a the computer the sales clerk is! Was then told my 49.00 item did not meet the minimum 50.00 amount for free shipping. Really?? I just spent over a dollar and 30 minutes of wasted time to get to you and now you want me to buy a candy bar for free shipping. Lol. Never.
