I've been here a million times over the years and I think it deserves a fair review. It is off the beaten path of Chinatown, so you have to go way down Wentworth past all the touristy places and find the parking in the crowded lot that is bordered by the towing Nazis of Furama. Don't double park on the sidewalk either or you'll get a parking ticket. The food here is consistent and mostly good. Service is typical of Chinatown. You have to ask for everything or you will get nothing. The servers will appear expressionless ,but they are nice if you get to know that's just the way they are. Upon entering, you will see many freshly baked goods on your right in a case for ala carte purchasing as well as some frozen bao, dim sum, etc. There is a dining room that isn't the cleanest, but that's where you will have to eat if you choose to dine in. I highly recommend the wonton dumpling soup, the CHICKEN WINGS are OMG, and the dim sum is all at least 4 stars. This place is an unsung hero of Chinatown. This is a REALLLLY good option for dim sum if you don't want to deal with the main Chinatown weekend rush. There are both parking lot spaces and street parking options too. The food quality is pretty comparable to mainstays like Cai, and it comes out fast! The service is pretty typical of a Chinese restaurant but I was peeved because they gave a table to a party of the same size that arrived after me. It wasn't the biggest deal but that was a mistake on their part that was avoidable. So I guess just be wary and proactive in reminding them things like that so you don't get overlooked!! read more

Dim Dim was highly recommended to me, and it did not disappoint. The orders came out as they were prepared, so all the dishes were freshly prepared as they were brought to our table. The price point was also quite reasonable. The shrimp crepe was so-so. Pretty basic rice flour crepe wrapping some cooked shrimp over soy sauce - I would probably pass on getting this again. The Shrimp Spinach Dumpling was juicy and stuffed full of shrimp. Pretty similar to Har Gao, with the exception of the shape and color. The Pork Bean Curd Skin Wrap is essentially a dumpling wrapped in a thin layer of tofu. The filling was juicy and flavorful, and this was one of my favorite dishes here. The Deep Fried Taro Puff was one of the highlights - the soft Taro insider melts in your mouth and packs a rich, savory flavor. This dish is quite filling, so if end up taking some home, pop it in the toaster oven to crisp up the exterior. The Black Sesame Cake was a bit gummy and did not pack much flavor. I wanted to try this dish, having never tried it before, but once is enough for me. Turnip Cake with XO sauce - the turnip cake was clearly made in advance but unfortunately wasn't reheated all the way. It would've been better had it been piping hot, but I did enjoy the XO sauce, which added a nice kick. The Bitter Melon with Fish Filet was savory and well seasoned. The black bean sauce kept me coming back for more. The Fried Egg Tofu with Spiced Salt - I liked this dish a lot more than I expected. Rings of tofu are battered in egg and lightly fried and salted. The texture and flavor of this dish are what stood out to me, and I would happily eat this again. The Stir Fried Flat Noodle with Beef was good, but not great. The noodles were considerably thinner than the beef chow fun I've had elsewhere, and the beef was a bit chewy. This seemed to be a popular dish to order. Beef Cilantro Soup - to me, this was a variation of egg drop soup with egg whites, beef, sprigs of cilantro, and lot of corn starch. read more

Purchased a swiss roll cake from this place that was personally bagged by the business owner (lady). It was molded. When called and confronted on the phone, she said I must've put it next to hot items so it molded... Funny that mold can grow within 8 hours and it is up to 1cm wide. :D I say stay away from the bakery of this establishment. Needless to say, wrote a complaint and here goes the picture!!! Came here for quick dim sum brunch. The menu is pretty small but they do have all the basics. We ordered siu mai, har gow nai wong bao fong zhau ( these werent fresh, so we sent them back ) dza leung ngau yuk cheung fan ha cheung fan Waitresses speak primarily Cantonese. We also ordered a few other items but I don't remember, total was about $30, which I think is typical for dim sum. The dim sum here is steamed to order, so everything was pretty hot and fresh. They serve dim sum all day and have a chef in the back whom makes them. I will probably come here again, I like the small not so busy - family style vibe this restaurant has. read more

My mama told me about a place with good Chinese food around Chinatown, without long lines, laid back atmosphere, cheap prices, AND available parking. I told her to get real. But, she brought me to Dim Dim and showed that I still have a lot to learn. Dim Dim really is not a fancy place. Generic decor all around, however everything else is done pretty well. We got the salt and pepper shrimp, sauteed pea shoots, and garlic fried beef ribs which were all great. You can find the first 2 dishes at any Chinese restaurant but the fried beef ribs were unique to Dim Dim and they were tasty. The portions are a bit smaller with cheaper prices, so you can try more dishes if you want. Dim Dim is a nice low key place and I unconditional trust my mama on her Chinese food taste. read more

I came here this past weekend with a bunch of friends for dim sum. Among the 6 of us, we ordered about 19 dishes. I came here about a year ago, so I was quite surprised to see that they redecorated the place. Before it was very white, plain and stereotypical "Chinese restaurant" feel. They have red walls and TVs on the wall now, but they're still sticking with plastic tables. I didn't eat any of the meat dishes except for the beef tripe. I really focused on the seafood dishes like the cuttlefish, shrimp dumpling and shrimp noodles. The cuttlefish was extremely oily to the point where I saw oil squirting out of my friend's mouth. The shrimp dumplings/noodles were decent. The worst part about this place is that I found a ball of plastic wrap in the plate of beef tripe. I thought it was just a bunch of beef tripe stuck together, but when I touched it, it was plastic wrap. I've had hair in my food, but never an actual ball of plastic wrap! Ridiculous. read more

The solo sad star is for the really really bad service. We've been here numerous times, and from our experiences we are aware that there's little to no service after you place your order. We still love to come here for the food. However today's service is at an all time low. We waited 30 minutes for our check and doggy bag. After another 10 minutes we decided to raid the container cabinet ourselves while the staff watched us as they ate lunch behind the counter. It might not look like much, but the food is really fantastic. I went with friends we had some Dim Sum as appetizers which they do work well as. I enjoyed the pork bun. I've never had a bad one. But these little meatballs were amazing. We has a chicken fried rice to split which was incredible. It wasn't greasy. It was more like the light fried rice I used to get when I lived in San Francisco. We also split some eggplant and pork, it was very good sort of garlicky and a hint of sweetness. I ordered a brisket with yellow noodles. They're crunchy but get soft in the sauce so there are a lot of textures. They have items you could do for dessert but the portions are ample. read more

I frequent this place a lot and I must say in the beginning, I came mainly for the price. It's local and cheap and service is average. You have to draw their attention. They seem more attentive if you speak their dialect. However, the food is really good, home made style Chinese food along with dim sum late into the day with a wide variety to choose from. My favorites are the steamed rice with garlic ribs, wonton noodle soup, pea pod leaves in garlic sauce, har gow (shrimp dumplings) and my absolute favorite of salt and pepper Japanese style tofu. This is one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants around. The food was great and the service was extremely fast. The size of each dish was slightly on the large side, so it is advised to order fewer dishes. Their Free-Range chicken with onion and ginger was beautiful in appearance and had a good flavor. Furthermore, they provided free soup and tea at the beginning of the meal. As other reviews have stated, however, there are a few dishes that were slightly heavy on oil, but it's not overwhelming. One downside would be that the restaurant appearance is not very clean or tidy. Despite this, having been to countless Chinese restaurants, I personally think this restaurant offers some of the best food around. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

It's a loud dining space and populated by locals, many of which appear to be headed to or from the nearby boarding hub for transportation to the NWI casinos. Staffs here are super friendly. Whatever you ask they will do it in a heart beat. They do have a small lot in the front, you can also find street parking. They are both free. They don't have a huge dim sum collection but it's definitely good enough to get you filled. They also have a good selection of Chinese baking goods. And I like how they sell frozen dim sum so you can cook it at home. I would totally come back. read more

When I'm in the mood for some hot milk tea, I usually find myself at St. Alp's, but when I don't feel like spending $5 a pop, Dim Dim offers a good alternative for about $1-2 when I'm in the area. Surprisingly, they have a decent selection of baked goods. My friend and I tried their Asian version of a fish filet sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo. It was pretty good. I would definitely get it again. I also purchased a few a la carte dim sum items, which were decent. Did you know that most places in Chinatown don't serve dim sum between 4pm-8pm? It's true, I was there last night trying to find a place but was unsuccessful. Most of them will serve dim sum early to mid day or late night. That's how I came across Dim Dim since they serve dim sum all day. Yeah yeah. The area is just south of old Chinatown and a little dingy but the interior of the restaurant is well decorated with dark wood trim. With no wait and cheap prices throughout the menu, this was a good find indeed. They offer a wide variety of dim sum made to order and dishes that average only $5 a plate. Although the quality wasn't outstanding, Dim Dim definitely satisfied my dim sum urge. We received awesome service and the food was hot and cooked well. I would much rather come here than the place upstairs, Furama, for dim sum. Depending on when you go, this place can be packed or half filled. As for service, it is a hit or miss. My favorite thing to get here is the shrimp crepe. This place isn't stingy with their soy sauce as well because I never have to ask for extra. Other things that I normally get here are the shrimp dumpling, pork bean curd wrap, chicken sticky rice wrap, bbq pork turnover, chive dumpling, and beef brisket over rice crepe. The siu mai here are pretty bad, but I am a very picky siu mai eater, and I only have like a select handful of siu mai from dim sum places. I also didn't like the deep fried taro puff, which is one of my favorite things to get in dim sum. This place also have a breakfast special which is $4 and it comes with a drink.
