We placed an order via UberEats after seeing all the great reviews on Yelp. Honestly, our experience didn't live up to the hype. But our order came swiftly and the driver was pleasant. He also wore a mask which is essential during a pandemic. We ordered the lunch portion of Mongolian beef and orange chicken. The app prompted you to choose chicken fried rice OR white rice and an egg roll. That led us to believe that the meals didn't come with egg rolls if you selected the fried rice. (Even though the description on the main page said lunch specials consisted of rice, an egg roll and main dish) For this reason, I ordered a side order of egg rolls. You get two for $3.50. Well, that was a waste because it turns out we ended up getting egg rolls with the lunch special!! The restaurant really needs to clear up that confusion because as a customer that little error was annoying. The lunch options are reasonably priced though. Anyway, the Mongolian beef was good, but there were way too many onions!! I'd say there was a small amount of meat drowned in onions. I had some of my sister's orange chicken and thought it was good. She liked it too, but it was too spicy for her. It had peppers in it... The rice had no flavor whatsoever. The egg rolls were good, but a little greasy. They also only gave us two sweet and sour sauce packs for FOUR egg rolls. Same for soy sauce... just two packets for both meals where half of the meals consisted of rice. I get that it's hard time for restaurants, but come on... that's no good. Thank goodness we had soy sauce in the fridge. Overall, the meal was just okay for us. Taste of Canton is a really solid Chinese takeout spot if that's what you're looking for. The quality isn't the best, but delivery is quick, the workers are friendly and the food is tasty. We order from here regularly and have never had a single complaint. read more

You know a place is good when you don't even take a picture of everything because you're just enjoying everything that's being served. BYOB helped, but we I've been here multiple times, and most recently with Jaci Y's Chi Club. She ordered for us right from the get go, and the kitchen was certainly cookin' tonight! We must have ordered at least 10 different dishes, and they were coming out fast and furious. I mean it couldn't have even been 5 minutes, and the first dish was served. My favorites were probably the short rib dish and the e-fu noodles. So many places overcook the noodles, but at Taste of Canton, it was not mushy at all. As Italians would say, "al dente." (Sorry for mixing up Italian with Chinese. Be nice.) Our group of friends enjoyed every dish, and it was nice to start off with a bowl of soup to sort of whet our appetites and cleanse our palettes. Service was definitely outstanding, and we were so glad that everyone enjoyed the evening and the food. I know everybody doesn't have a Jaci Y. in their life to order Cantonese food for them, but just take a look at some of the pictures I took. You really can't go wrong. Prices are very reasonable, especially if you're doing this family style (which you should.) Get out of your comfort zone, and try something besides egg foo young and beef and broccoli. IFEELING SPECIAL We were looking for a great lunch deal with some delicious Chinese food. We found this location on Yelp based off of our search filters. We were really happy with Taste of Canton located near Chinatown Chicago. The lunch specials are only $7.50 and are available from 11am to 3pm. After 3pm the special goes up to $9.25. The entrees are really huge and come with a house made egg roll and chicken fried rice or white rice. I decided to go with the chicken lo mein lunch special and it was delicious. It does not come with rice which is always typical of noodle dishes. I asked the owner to make it spicy and he definitely took it up a notch. Next time I'm going to ask him to hurt me with even more heat. I really loved the fresh chopped red chilis they added to my dish. It tasted like the chilies were vinegar based and they were really good. This spicy addition took my lo mein dish to another level. Lo Mein isn't usually spicy but now I am going to want it spicy all of the time. The egg roll also rocked. It was very traditional with baby shrimp and pork slices inside. You won't see any photos of the egg roll because I ate the whole thing without taking a photo of it. Honestly this has not happened in over 12 years. There's no photo evidence of the egg roll because it was literally inhaled by me. I'll try and be better and hopefully not slip up again for another 12 years. We were coming here for a dine in lunch but when we arrived we found out the restaurant was take out only because of Covid19. We decided to use Google to search for a nearby park and placed an order to go. The owner was super nice and he could totally multi task. He took our order while still answering phones. He was like super man. While we were waiting for our food (which only took 15 minutes to make), he came outside and delivered our lychee smoothie. That was so nice of him. He even ran our food out when it was done. There was a constant flow of people picking up carryout and also food delivery drivers grabbing bags. I've got to say they are slaying it here with the lunch special. Once we got our food we headed to a nice outdoor space which was about a mile away to enjoy our lunch. The order was perfect and everything was packed nice and neat. We had napkins, sauces, chop sticks, forks and fortune cookies. It was perfect for our improvised picnic. In addition to my chicken lo mein we also got a Mongolian Chicken. We wanted Mongolian Beef but there was a little confusion on our part while ordering so I can see it was an honest mistake or lost in translation. We also got a Szechuan chicken too. We tried one chicken fried rice and one white rice and I'd highly recommend you get the fried rice. It was really good. The white rice was a tad under cooked. So if you're looking for some delicious authentic affordable Chinese food then look no further then Taste of Canton! I can hardly wait to come back for the lunch special! Absolutely phonemail! My friend (fortunately) always pushes to try new restaurants in Chinatown when I'm usually happy to go to old favorites. He said he really wanted cantonese and I honestly wasn't sure I could ever make a distinction. We had a range of different items, but because he had his two sons with him, I feel as he showed restraint and stuck to more mainstream options where he normally would order real exotic and obscure items. What shocked me is how much I found myself loving these mainstream items like chicken fried rice, egg foo yum, and even Kung Pao which I normally don't enjoy very much. The food was spicy and had the "wok breath" taste to it. The green beans were truly sublime. This place, along with Szechaun Cuisine and Xian Cuisine has now become my top three faves, will be back soon ;) read more

Decent Asian food here, more so geared for American Asian cuisine. I had a chance to order for delivery and glanced at the online menu. I should have went online for the menu rather than from my mobile - it is different. The mobile menu version did not show details on the type of noodles the protein came with, such as pork chowmein - I was expecting fried noodles not fried noodles like the snack. Came here on a Friday evening for an early dinner (5:30). Im glad we came early when we were the only diners here because later in the evening they were completely packed. We got excellent customer service because of it. The complimentary soup is a light homemade chicken soup with lentils and sweet potato. We got the pork egg rolls and split the fried fish with salted egg yolk ( a very traditional and acquired taste) as well as a more American style beef and king mushroom stir fry. Eggrolls were standard, but good to be able to see the pieces of meat and cabbage rather than just mush. The prices are very affordable, all the seafood is cheaper than Chinatown. There was a two lobster special for $28 (fresh and live!) that we actually passed up this time. The fried fish dish was $11.95 and came with a large portion of just fried fish. However the fish had that typical earthy dirt taste of tilapia- I wish they used a better fish fillet, I would not have minded paying a few more dollars for that. The beef dish was pretty tasty, tender beef, celery, carrots, and king mushroom, but lacked seasoning or depth in flavor. Admittedly I'm a larger fan of Szechuan than Cantonese food, so maybe I just like having my taste buds assaulted, but the beef dish seems to be missing salt-- an essential component of any Chinese dish. Have been here a couple times now. The restaurant is located inside a plaza with free parking spaces. Service is attentive. Food is good and comes out quickly. It comes with a bowl of complementary soup. Portion is huge. Price is decent. The owner also gave us a free dessert one time which was really nice of him. Oh my god! This place is so good that the owners know my entire family cause we come here literally at least twice a month for family dinners. The owners are super nice and the food is definitely comparable to Chinatown if not better! We stopped eating dinner at Chinatown cause we live a couple blocks from here and the prices as well food quality is top notch. Never had a bad experience here and they have legit good Thai iced tea here! If you're ever in the area for authentic Chinese food then you should dine here if you're too lazy to make that extra trip to Chinatown! You can always call ahead to make reservations and they'll always be able to accommodate you no matter what! Seriously this is like some of the tastiest restaurants in Chicago for Chinese cuisine. The meal that me and my big group of friends here had last night, was one of the best meals I have had in a long time! I frequent Chinatown and I still think that Taste of Canton is a much better dining experience than most of the other top names that are thrown around Chinatown. The food here is extremely fresh, seasoned and presented perfectly, and just downright sinfully tasty! Pricewise, ToC is extremely affordable! For a big group of people (13) we each paid close to $14 including tip and this included at least 10 dishes! Between this pricepoint and the quality of the food and how fast the food hit the table, ToC is simply a must!! In regards to the service, the staff here were all extremely accommodating, outgoing, and bubbly! In truth, this is a pleasant change from the sometimes stale customer service that Chinatown is known for. If they have delivery...I am screwed. read more

I think I found my new favorite Chinese restaurant and surprisingly it is not located in Chinatown! I came during a Yelp event hosted by the hostess with the mostess: Jaci Y. I'm so glad she decided to host an event here because otherwise I would have never found out about this place. I live close to Chinatown and would have no reason to venture out this way except now I have a good reason: this place serves delicious chinese food! I reminded me of the food back home from SF and HK. We tried: E-fu noodles yang chow fried rice singapore rice noodles king mushroom with pea tips crispy salt and pepper shrimp (no shell) salt and pepper pork chop sweet and sour Beijing style pork chops honey walnut shrimp short ribs sizzling beef tenderloin in black pepper sauce clams in black bean sauce dessert: hong kong egg waffle Everything was delicious and came out so quickly! We started dinner at 7pm and finished by 8pm! They were serving out the food fast and we were eating it fast especially while it was pipping hot straight out of the kitchen. Prices here were very reasonable. There was about 12 of us and it came out to about $14 per person. We even ordered an extra 2 dishes of some of the dishes listed above so it was a really great deal. There are plenty of seats in the restaurant. The staff here was very accommodating in helping us combine two tables together so that all of us could sit together comfortably. They also have a free private parking lot so there is no reason not to check this place out! I made sure to grab a carry out menu so that I can come back again or order my food to go. This place is a new favorite for good ole Cantonese food. Goes to show you that not all the best Chinese food in Chicago is in the heart of Chinatown. This restaurant is a little southwest of Chinatown on Archer right by that little camera speedtrap area. 30 mph max. Be careful! Place is clean, well lit, and relatively new. We got the wonton noodle soup. It was a ton of noodles! Wontons were fresh and plump. Probably enough for a meal and only 5 bucks. As an entree, we got the peppered beef with tomatoes and the king mushroom with Japanese egg tofu dish. Both were the best I've had in a long time. Portions were plentiful, and prices are cheap. Hubby and I decided to check out " Taste of Canton." tonight and they rolled out the red carpet for their customers during their grand opening month. I felt so warm and cared for by the manager and owner I believe his name is Jim. He immediately greeted us we got a table and we talked with us and told us their restaurant is BYOB, wow how fabulous is that? I think this is a great start to the evening. So we ordered a fabulous red wine blend to start our evening off it was very good dry and crisp. If you forget to bring wine don't worry they have you can order a bottle from them too. We usually we don't like to try brand new places until they have been in the area longer but we weren't feeling all to hot, and we wanted to get out of the house and get a nice fruit smoothie drink so we wen here, " Taste of Canton." Now, while I am not Cantonese, I am ' Toy san," I can still somewhat speak it causally and order my food right so that is always a plus at these restaurants, but don't worry they speak perfect " English," as well. You'll be fine if you don't know your cantonese or mandarin. Let's get to the menu, it has your authentic famous Cantonese dishes from Seafood, all the way down to fried rice and str-fried noodles. They have live seafood you can see the tanks and pick out someone to be our dinner! Isn't that always such a nice touch? I think so too. Their prices are very fair since the portion actually meet the price of its value, wow you rarely hear me say that LOL. We came in here meaning to only get something small and some fruit smoothies ended up getting red wine, ordering spicy salt and pepper pork chops, brisket soup and I had them add won tons for the good measure, and E-fu noodles. Why did this all happen? Well, when I first walked in and headed towards our table I my noise caught the smells of spicy salt and pepper seasoning on their shrimp. So naturally I wanted the their pork version of it, I know it's strange but I am not a shrimp person so the pork works for us. Next, I had always intended on their beef brisket noodle soup because I wasn't feeling well tonight so I wanted soup and noodles. Then dear hubby wanted E-fu noodles, it was date night HEY we go all out. Everything that came out was amazingly good. Good start to the first dining experience. Beef brisket was so tender easy to eat no having to naw my through tendons I LOVE IT! Next, E Fu Noodles, they are the banquet of noodles, why because they are usually served at a fancy wedding banquet. Now a days it's on our menus at most Chinese restaurants. It's fabulous it has a perfect chewy texture that you want in E Fu noodles and the flavors are dead on with the oyster sauce and the mushroom like flavor. it comes only with veggies but that's okay it taste very meaty. Spicy salt and pepper pork chops was a lot of pork and less boney very good. It fulfilled the craving I immediately got when I first smelled it. That was a very good. All in All I have to say if I were an audience they would get around of applause. clap clap clap... Keep it up Taste of Canton. You're hospitality is utmost important I enjoyed my dining experience here. Keep up with the consistency of the portions and flavors. I loved the taste test of the " egg waffle" " don go" it was so good. We were driving around late on a Sunday night looking for something to eat. We ran into this spot and decided to give it a try. Service was super fast. Our order was taken within minutes of walking into the door and we only had to wait 5 minutes for the food to come out. And it was hot. And it was fresh. We got the chicken lo Mein and it had lots of veggies - what a pleasant surprise. Most places will load you up on noodles and grease, but this hit different. Good "wok hai" = fantastic Chinese food. This is Chinese food catered to the Chinese community. Living far from the Chinatown zone, it's been a while since I've eaten out for Chinese. The shared meal I had from Jaci Y's Yelp Takeover brought back memories. Every dish that we ordered was really good and the measuring stick for the practical Asian home is value, big portions, and tasty. Check, check and check!! I really liked that the community is expanding and there's a nice big modern sign and fresh parking lot to catch your eye as you're driving down Archer Ave. Taste of Canton is a winner in my book. I hope they keep up the quality here and absolutely bring a group here. Chinese food is best when shared. Order plenty of dishes to try and just like Chinatown, the "secret" menu needs to be unlocked by someone who can read Chinese on the wall. read more

First off, a shout out to Jaci Y's host and event skills! Eating at Taste of Canton family style allowed our sizable group to try a lot of everything which is how Yelpers like it! Moments after I arrived, the food was coming out of the kitchen fresh and hot. Jaci had taken the time to pre order some of this spot's most delicious dishes and I was very glad for the benefit of her expertise. We started with a veggie soup. described as an appetizer and palate cleanser. A little bland, but I suppose it did get me anticipating all the flavorful food that was to come! The Salt and Pepper shrimp were up first. Perfectly cooked shrimp with a light and crispy batter. I could taste the salt on the shrimp, but that didn't make it taste salty... a taste I'm fairly sensitive to. Could've used a little more sauce as it's eaten from a bed of white rice, but there was plenty of drippings from other succulent dishes to come. Short ribs and Yang Chow fried rice were up next. The ribs were tasty, but not as tender for me as they were for a few fellow yelpers. They were similar to the beef tenderloin w/ black pepper sauce, which I liked much better. The fried rice was good, but a little bland. I can definitely recommend the sweet and sour pork chops, the walnut shrimp with broccoli and the E - Fu (Yi mein) noodles. Everyone was having a great time nomming on all the goodies. I missed the Clams and Salt & Pepper Pork Chops... just because my plate was full and I was swiftly approaching the same status. Dessert was a Hong Kong Egg Waffle that was perfectly sweet, and not too much so. I would've loved it with ice cream. Lots of friends were made that night and wonderful conversation was had. It's a newly opened renovated restaurant. Simple decor but brightly lit. There is a lot of choices on the menu. The lunch menu is simple but not a lot of offerings. For the location it is a little pricey. The menu is a printed menu laminated. So if you order over $20, $30 or $40, don't forget to ask for the free items. We got the free egg rolls. They are made with peanut butter. That's the old school way egg rolls were made years ago. We order watercress sautéed in garlic. It was a nice serving and was overpowering with garlic taste or pieces like some places. Another traditional Chinese dish is the eggplant with salted fish and diced chicken. It came out hot and smelled good. With the salted fish the dish was seasoned correctly. The last dish we ordered was delicious and made me want more. Crispy salt & pepper calamari.
