Stopped by on a rainy Saturday night. It was pretty busy, so for three people we had about a 15-minute wait, which wasn't a big deal at all. Once seated, we were given two regular menus and one dim sum menu. We asked if we could have another dim sum menu, but were told no, only one could be used, even if everyone at the table wanted different items. We all had to check boxes on the same menu. Since we all wanted different dim sum apps and didn't want to be charged for each other's items, I asked if checks could at least be split. We were told they do not split checks at all, even for a party of three. It was a little inconvenient, and I wish this policy had been explained more clearly on their website. We were then asked if we were ready to order, but I had to request a walkthrough on how the ordering process worked. I've never been to a dim sum restaurant before, and the menu was a little confusing at first. There are prices listed in a small box in the bottom right corner along with a key for the picture menu, but none of that was explained to us. We had to ask for clarification ourselves. After ordering, the food came out in a very random order. It wasn't all the dim sum first and then the entrees. Instead, it would be one dim sum item, then soup, then entrees, then another dim sum item. Everything came out in small increments throughout the meal. The biggest issue of the night was the service. Every time our server dropped something off, she would immediately walk away before we could ask for anything else. We constantly needed things like silverware, soy sauce, duck sauce, napkins, or refills, but it felt impossible to get her attention. Multiple times I made eye contact with her across the restaurant, only for her to turn and walk into the kitchen. It genuinely felt like she was avoiding our table, which made the experience really uncomfortable. We eventually had to start raising our hands in the air just to flag someone down. When we asked another server for water, he responded by asking who our server was. After we pointed her out, he went to get her instead of helping us directly. By the end of the night, the only reason she came back over to us was the give us the check because the restaurant was about to close at 9 p.m. The food itself was decent, but the confusing ordering process and uncomfortable service experience really took away from the evening. I was a big fan of TY ginger - we decided to try this place sonce it was 8 minutes down the road from Cosi (our next destination after lunch). This place was not nearly as noisy as the usual dim sum I am use to, but that is ok. Amazingly it was not packed, we got seated right away. This was about 11am. We were handed this dim sum menu to order - so no steamy carts like the good old days. Food came quickly and it was all really good, I had no complaints and left full belly. Not all the waiters spoke fluent Chinese, so if your family is expecting this for your Chinese speaking family - worth noting. Had a craving and walked away SO happy with our first experience at Dim Sum Asian Bistro! First impressions: it's near a parking garage (bonus!) and the space is honestly stunning. It's upscale, beautiful lighting and finishes, comfortable tables and seating. The bar area was gorgeous too. 10/10 for decor and atmosphere! Had absolutely spectacular service from the minute we came in. Our hostess was super welcoming and friendly and our server was outstanding. He chatted with us about our dim sum choices and more. Just honestly so friendly and welcoming, it felt like visiting with a friend. It's so rare but these types of interactions is what makes a business feel like part of the community. We tried so many different things I can't remember everything we got but a few things stood out: loved how crispy the egg rolls were (and their house made hot mustard - whooo that has a kick! I'd buy it in a bottle if I could! Stand-out favorites for us both were the soup dumplings and the pork shui mai. Just hearty and beautifully flavored. This place is great for sharing different bites with the whole table which makes for a fun meal with any group of people you go with! There are so many options to choose from, they have everything! You can never go wrong with spicy wontons & I'm a big fan of soup dumplings! The sesame chicken is one of the best I've had in the city; the sauce consistency & flavor was perfect! Our family celebrated mothers' day week later. We made reservation for7 people and our table was ready at our arrival. It was a huge circular table with a lazy susan in the center that you could control with button in the table in front of you! We ordered 14 dishes -all for sharing. And one person ordered his own 2 meals. Our favorites were the roast pork, Cha SiuBao, Xiao Long Bao. There was almost nothing left. Service was great. The place is very clean. There is a free parking garage across the street. Study the dim sum menu and coordinate your choices so you get enuf of the favs. read more

I love Ty Ginger, so when I heard they were opening another restaurant I got here as soon as I could. They opened last week, in the Yard area of Grandview. Big parking garage in back. Very nice inside. Carryout kiosk at counter, but big airy dining area too. Service was excellent. Some of the staff also work at Ty Ginger. Big menu of interesting items, but I was here for dim sum. Loads of items on that side of the menu too. I started with Snow Mountain buns, with bbq pork inside. Pillowy, a bit savory, quite good. Next up were chive dumplings. Oh yeah. I like chives, scallions, leeks, anything like that. These were big dumplings, stuffed full. A nice blend of flavors and textures. So so good. Then spicy wontons. A smaller serving than standard places, of course, but perfectly plated, and very good. The heat builds slowly to somewhat strong but not crazy. And last, sausage sticky rice. I've had this at Chinese buffets, but I figured their version would be at least different and hopefully better. It was. Somewhat different, and much better. More rice than sausage, with a subtle flavor and perfect texture. An excellent end to the meal. I was stuffed. I wanted to try more, but I figured I should stop. Flavor was good, added sauce for a little kick. Good starter. Bbq pork buns were fluffy and the roasted pork was tasty, a little sweet. Creamy corn fish looked good on the menu but then it came out. Basically had the Sam's frozen corn/pea/carrot mix on top. No flavor. Shrimp balls were literally ground up shrimp fried. Not appetizing. Service was good. A bit disappointing that the server didn't tell us the amount of food we ordered was too much. He knew it was our first time there. I heard other servers helping people a bit more. I hate to be one of the only 4/5 star reviews but I enjoyed Ty Ginger in Dublin better. We came around 4:45 PM before the dinner rush and were able to order food in advance before the 5:00 PM dinner dishes were served. The benefit of coming early is that the restaurant is not too busy and the dishes come out quick, but I think some of the dishes (like our congee) was lukewarm, not hot. For my health, I was glad that their food was not too salty, but for my taste buds, many of their dishes were not very flavorful. Came for dim sum. Left in a committed relationship with the wonton soup. My son wasted zero time claiming the pork bao as his favorite, bold choice, zero regrets. The husband went classic with the shumai, because when something's done right, you don't mess with it. Daughter-in-law was all about the pork gyoza and honestly? Excellent judgment. I thought I had peaked with the garlic broccoli and chicken... but damn the wonton soup for me absolutely stole the show. I genuinely considered ordering another bowl and not sharing that information with the table. Drinks were doing the most in the best way. We've been to the Dublin location many times with great experiences, and this was our second visit to Grandview, about a week after our last visit. Since it was our anniversary, we came for dim sum on New Year's Day, but the service was really disappointing. Our server, Matt M., approached without greeting and immediately asked if we knew the kitchen had shut down the night before, as if we were expected to already know. Only a few steamed items were available, which was fine since the ones we wanted were still served, but his tone was rushed, dismissive, and unprofessional. He rarely checked in, spent most of the time talking with other tables, and even small details like my water barely being full when he first brought it, added to the poor service. I don't expect top of the line service at more casual restaurants, but this was worse than Taco Bell past midnight on a weekend, smh. I also work as a server elsewhere, so I understand how busy holidays can be but that doesn't excuse rude behavior or lack of basic professionalism. There was also confusion with an order already marked with an "X." I explained that we didn't mark it ourselves and everything else I ordered had a number written in the box to indicate quantity, and there were other Xs already on the menu. When I pointed this out, he took the plate back, asked "So the X means you don't want it?" in a snarky attitude when he returned with the menu, didn't clarify beforehand, and didn't apologize afterward. Towards the end, we were also missing two orders of Har Gow. While waiting, he asked if we were ready for the check without asking if we needed anything or enjoyed the meal. I mentioned that we were missing our Har Gow, he eventually brought it out, walked away without any acknowledgment, no apology for the wait, and returned less than ten minutes later asking about the check again while my boyfriend was mid-bite. The filling was fine, but the wrapper was starchy and left an unpleasant texture. Overall, the food was decent, but the service ruined the experience. I rarely write reviews, especially this long, but this really frustrated me and needed to be called out. P.S, the other servers are really nice and welcoming. We love Derek over there! The food was outstanding from start to finish -- everything tasted incredibly fresh, perfectly prepared, and full of authentic flavor. Each dish was thoughtfully presented, and you can really tell they take pride in the quality of their ingredients and execution. What truly elevated the experience, though, was the excellent service. I have now been to this restaurant about a dozen times. This will no doubt make any reasonable person wonder why I would have gone that many times and yet only give it two stars. Good question but I have an answer-because I love dim sum, have family living nearby, and because I wanted very badly to like it. The good; just about every dim sum staple is represented. The staff try to be friendly if not too friendly. The food comes out quickly. It is clean and modern right through the table-side PoS cash-out. The bad; just about everything else you can think of. Virtually all of the classic dumplings, buns, and steamer items taste bland and non-descript. The flavors are muddled and often lacking entirely. One exception is the tripe in ginger which they list on the menu by the Chinese name and not as tripe. Every time I check it as being requested they ignore my request and come back to tell me it is tripe which is so utterly condescending. The congee is so watered down that it no longer resembles congee. Dishes that require more than steaming are incredibly and maddeningly inconsistent and sloppy. A prime example would by yesterday's order of a quarter of a roast duck in a soup of fine noodles and bok choy. The noodles and bok choy had obviously been thrown into the bowl last-minute and arrived sticking out of my bowl largely uncooked. Just plain lazy and sloppy work by someone in the kitchen. The worst of all is the pricing. No doubt the rent is very high but dim sum for two people should not cost $120 before tip, but it easily can and will. No, i made a mistake, the pricing is the second worst thing. The WORST thing is that the owner and investors managed to rob the dim sum experience of the true essence of ordering and enjoying dim sum-the relaxation aspect. Dim sum is supposed to be served in such a way as to foster relaxing over a bunch of treats on a lazy weekend morning/early afternoon. By eliminating the push carts and serving everything at once the establishment has managed to eviscerate the aspect of dim sum that is most important and vital. Last night a large party were seated behind us at a large round table with Lazy Susan. They ordered a lot and seemed so excited. Until the food came. I looked at their faces and just ten minutes after the food had arrived they were done and not looking very happy. I attribute that to the combination of boring muted flavors and serving everything at once. They were robbed of what makes dim sum special and yet charged-I am sure- a very high price. After fifty years of scouting out Columbus restaurants I think I have a pretty keen sense of what will hang around and what will not. This restaurant can not possibly survive two more years without a major revamp. They need better kitchen staff, more attention to detail, a paring down of the menu, and more realistic pricing. Perhaps Columbus will never support push cart dim sum-it is understandably a tough thing to pull off profitably but trying to go upscale with mediocre (at best) food is not the answer. read more

We enjoyed sharing the restaurant with a mix of young couples and multigenerational families at Sunday lunch. Our waiter had a great sense of humor and provided great service. I had a reservation booked in advance for 19 people, and this was my first time visiting the restaurant. I was really looking forward to enjoying a meal with my family, who were in town visiting. We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation and were told that our group would not be able to sit together and would instead be split across multiple tables. We were then informed that our large table had been given to a walk-in who did not have a reservation. The staff could not provide a clear explanation for why this happened or offer any helpful solution to accommodate our party. For a group of this size with a pre-booked reservation, this was extremely disappointing and unprofessional.
