Thanksgiving lunch 2024. Small family group of four of us. Note: Coco Hot Pot does not take reservations for Thanksgiving day; it's first come first serve. It was not crowded when we arrived around 2 pm, but apparently they just recovered from a huge opening rush that had people waiting to be seated. On one side of the restaurant there's hot pot tables (burner in the middle for your broth), and the other side is regular wooden table for people that want regular dishes and/or dim sum only. We got seated right away at a hot pot table because we wanted to get stuff from both menus. There daily dim sum offering is on a separate paper menu that you mark down how many servings you want of whatever tickles your fancy. Our server Kwan was fantastic! This was my parents first time for hot pot, and he did a great job explaining the process, what the sauce bar was all about, and how to order from their dim sum menu. We picked their mushroom broth, which I liked. For protein, we got the Supreme Beef & Lamb Combo for hot pot. Meats were displayed on a separate board (beef on one end, lamb opposite). Loved the assortment of veggies that come along; also liked that those veggies are served separately from the meat so it makes it easier to pick and choose what you want to eat. It was a super fun experience. I've done hot pot one other time many years ago, and I would make the same one suggestion for here, too: Wish there were dividers given to put in the broth to make it easier to ascertain which items are yours after dropping them in the liquid; it's hard to keep an eye on your very-thin beef shaves because it sinks before floating and easily gets pushed and mixed around. The dim sum was absolutely delicious! I got a few of the same things I got on my last (1st) visit, and shared a few new dishes. Their Black Truffle Siu Mai were excellent! Fantastic mushroom flavor, and each were big and filling. I highly recommend those, mmmm. Also loved the Crispy Minced Pork Dumplings! A thin fried outside around a bao-like wrapping, with minced pork and I think Kwan said mushrooms. I think Coco's is a new favorite. Their menus are full with a lot of flavors and dishes to pick from. Their prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Okay for my latest visit I came with folks who were from the Chengdu region in China, and they knew what to order in terms of the schezwan dishes. The food was good, but they felt that the schezwan dishes were not as authentic as Chilispot. I don't know if the restaurant was having an off-day but I too liked the pork belly and the water spinach more than the schezwan dishes. Hopefully, it was a one off and will be back to try other options. The ambiance is nice although a little loud. read more

I ordered take out from here and it was very delicious! I've heard great things for a while but hadn't had the chance to check it out until today. I ordered the chili dumplings, soup dumplings, and cucumber salad. It was all amazing like I said. I am excited to come back and have it in person. read more

The waiter asked me what soup base I wanted and I said, "Teddy bear **uwu eyes**." They told me that is not a soup base. It's an add-on. Now u kno. Anyway, Coco is probably the best hotpot place in Columbus. I love the selection they offer; they have some of my favorite ingredients, including ye ol' reliable beef, but also tofu skin, enoki mushroom, fish, and SHRIMP PASTE!!! The broths + teddy bears also taste very good and I don't even usually like hot pot broths very much. Service is efficient (ty for putting up with my limited Mandarin), food presentation is pretty, and the interior is clean and spacious. The main downside is that eating at Coco's does unfortunately get Quite pricey :/ But I think worth it if you want nice hotpot in Columbus! read more

We'd just finished running errands on Bethel Road, were hungry & felt like Asian food; we saw this place & said "looks busy, should be okay, let's try it". Short form: the food is tasty, fresh, & filling. The service is friendly without being intrusive, though they're very, VERY hands-off. However, all that was afterwards. Everything before those two points gave us a lot of misgivings: First, the signs lining the windows were all in Chinese, with dollar amounts in USD at the bottom of the signs -- LARGE dollar amounts, as in "$99". We had no idea what those signs were for. Husband and I looked at those and had serious second thoughts: "they can't be charging $99 for a meal, right? That's really high-level for Columbus, not strip-mall food pricing...right?" NOT a good sign. However, we decided those signs had to mean something else, so we went in to see the actual menu and food. Curiosity will be the death of us, I swear. However, the menu wasn't any better. It was HUGE, a potential red flag. A huge pages-long menu with tons of selections can be a bad sign; it usually means a restaurant is using pre-made low-quality food, like chains do: stuff that can made fast and without care by unskilled workers. With that said, one of the exceptions to that rule is (usually) Chinese restaurants. They use the same fresh ingredients in many different ways and combinations with very simple preparation to create a variety of dishes. With THAT said...Coco's menu is not only large & many-itemed, it's CONFUSING. 99% of it is in Chinese, with tons of jumbled pictures & long lists that seemed to be nothing but ingredients, & constantly-repeated (English) phrase next to those pics: "the actual dish you're served may not look like the photo"...uh, what?? That didn't give us any confidence in the food quality. Add to that, the menu was a huge confusing jumble of stuff with no clear indication of how it was divided or what the sections were supposed to be nor what we were supposed to do with the various meats and veg ingredients listed...well... At that point, the only thing that kept us from going elsewhere was that the place was fairly busy, with a lot of families -- it couldn't be that bad, right? Sometimes I'm too stubborn for my own good. When you sit down at a Coco's table, the first thing you notice is a metal plate in the center of the table -- from surreptitiously watching other diners, it looked like that metal thing was for some sort of hot broth, used in a variation on fondue. However, staring at other diners to figure out what this restaurant expects its customers to do is rude. The menu was no help: as I said, everything on it was in Chinese, except for actual names of ingredients and only a VERY scant English section for a few typical Chinese-American dishes. Yet even THAT small section was divided into sub-sections that seemed to imply you had to pick the ingredients you wanted and how you wanted them prepared. But with everything but the ingredient names being in Chinese, we had to guess at what we were supposed to do. In other words, you'll be guessing at what you're ordering. Husband and I weren't interested in typical Chinese-American fare, we wanted to try the broth/soup/fondue stuff that we saw on other tables (the hotpot?), but we couldn't figure out the menu enough to order it. We'd also spotted something that looked like a salad bar at the back, and wondered if we were supposed to do something similar to the mongolian grill chain restaurant, but again, no signs, no instructions, and a very confusing menu. We finally gave up and went with what little we hoped we understood (the typical generic stuff) and hoped we'd guessed right. I'm getting exhausted just trying to describe this. I know I'm not describing it very well; the menu is THAT incomprehensible, the servers that unhelpful. I mean, like I said, the food we got was fresh and well-made, but I can't figure how how Coco's expects to attract new customers. The menu comes off as downright hostile to anyone who doesn't read the language, the servers unhelpful & hands-off. I so badly want to give Coco's a good review. I really do. The food we did get was fresh, tasty, and well-made. But the stuff we were interested in trying was barricaded behind an incomprehensible & confusing menu, unhelpful servers, and a restaurant that didn't even try to meet us halfway. Coco's, if anyone there reads this: GET SOMEONE WITH ACTUAL EXPERIENCE IN DESIGNING MENUS TO REDO/SIMPLIFY YOURS. Preferably someone who can help you bridge the culture gap & explain things to new customers who can't speak Chinese. Even having a separate translated menu in English would help. As it is, we felt railroaded into getting stuff that every other Chinese restaurant in town offers, not whatever it is you seem to specialize in making. And that's a damn shame. read more

Came here for a late birthday dinner with 2 friends. So with a party of 3 requesting a hot pot table, it took at least 20 minutes for them to bring out the broth alone, then another 15-20 minutes for them to bring out our chosen foods of spam, beef, tofu, carrots, and bases of ramen, udon and rice. Literally the best foods were the sliced carrots and rice. Per the friend who ordered the beef, he claimed it was low quality and couldn't finish the plate, and preferred the carrots. I ordered the peeled shrimp, which were butterfly-cut but weren't properly deveined, so I had to dig my fingers to pull out the entrails that should have been removed. Poor service, poor quality, and I cannot fathom why it took so long for them to bring out uncooked food on a small plate that we had to cook anyway. Either you are first timer or a regular, I hope this would help you navigate around the local Hot Pot spot. Here come Coco Hot Pot out at Bethel Road. I had been here awhile back for their regular menu, but haven't try their Hot Pot before. If it is your first time, you can rest assure as their Hot Pot menu is filled with picture and listed out the step for you to order. They offer both option for mini pot and big pot. If you are with a big group, I highly recommend to pick the big pot and you can choose up to 4 different broth. Moving into the food, you can select from their combo option or create your own. Other than the typical Hot Pot option, they also have some special offering such as shrimp paste and handmade pork or beef cilantro ball. Once you order the food, time to go mix up a bowl of dipping sauce. Their sauce bar option is fairly extensive. If you looking for some inspiration, they also have a list of recommended sauce mixes for you if you not sure where to start. Look out at the left corner of the sauce bar, a little pot of taro sago dessert is hidden there. If you are looking for an extensive selection from the food to sauces, Coco Hot Pot maybe the fit for you. I simply enjoy going to Coco' grill for my Sichuan food cravings ever since HongKong house off of Henderson road shut down in COVID. Their Ala carte menu is huge with several vegetarian and gluten free options. They have great hotpot as well which I highly recommend.The portions are great and taste is always consistent. Several people went out to eat and most were happy with their food and service. I ordered the Kung Pao Tofu and expected it to be hot and spicy. It was sweet but the hot peppers that came with it were spicy. However, I couldn't really break up the hot peppers to eat with my sweet tofu since all I had were chopsticks and a fork so I just ate the tofu. My husband's House Tofu was OK but he liked it. The spring rolls were OK - they were deep fried with no particular great taste. Someone else ordered the Spicy Cucumber Salad and it was delicious - sweet and spicy and perfect. This restaurant was really pretty on the inside with a large fish tank and beautiful lights. The smell of the hot pots was absolutely incredible but I was on a mission for some dim sum, and that's what we got. It was a family affair so our choices were definitely impacted by whether or not our six year old would be into them. We got a couple kinds of pork buns, one fried and one steamed (the fried ones were chewy like mochi but crisp on the outside), an order of the siu mai, scallion pancake, a shrimp/pork bun and then a pig shaped steam bun filled with coconut for like, dessert I guess lol Don't miss their sauce bar omg, especially their house blend. It's one of the tastiest dipping sauces I've encountered in a minute. But let me tell you, I'm already planning my next visit to do the whole hot pot deal because again, the SMELL it haunts me Also our server was an absolute delight, she was so precious and totally helped me steer my kid away from a boba drink in total parent solidarity (high five, fellow mom). This place has got to be the best hot pot spot I've tried and this includes Chinatown in Chicago. The waitstaff are attentive and helpful in explaining the menu and it's options. We ordered the 3 broth option with spicy, mushroom, and chicken broths. We also ordered the sliced beef that came with veggies, the ball combo, and paste combo. My favorites were the fish balls with fish eggs inside and the beef paste, but it was all super yummy! All the pastes are homemade and are kinda like meatballs. Don't sleep on the sauces, either! I loved it here. The atmosphere, the concept and the food. I've now been here twice and I look forward to my next excuse to go. This can be best described as Chinese fondue and it's spicy if you decide it to be! You can choose proteins, veggies and starches individually or as a platter. They have a "sauce & dessert" bar for $1 extra--never gotten the dessert but love to mix up sauces for my meat and veggie dippers. Service was fantastic as the visited our table regularly to make sure our broth was going well and replenishing anything we might need to enjoy. Went to an early dinner around 4:30pm, and we were seated immediately. It was lively but not too loud. It was my first time here, and I went with my fiancé and a friend of ours. We got a split broth (chicken and spicy thai). If you're sensitive to spice, be mindful of the spicy thai! We ended up mixing the two broths to make it less spicy but still very flavorful. We got some beef and lamb, udon, ramen noodles, and a variety of veggies! My favorite was definitely the udon noodles. They also have a bar to make your own sauce. This was my first hot pot experience! So fun! My group called in a reservation for 8 on a Tuesday at 7:30 pm. Lots of free parking in the front. When we got there they said that they never got our reservation but the larger table was open so we were able to be seated right away. The menu was very large with so many options of meats and veggies. I really enjoyed everything we had. There were other options if you did not want hot pot that looked very good. I liked the pictures in the menu. Mixing and cooking everything was very fun. Wished the noodle sides came with more but the other portions were pretty good. Since starting this review, I have been to Coco's a few more times (and another hot pot place), and this is such a great meal!... being worth the price, especially if you order well. Hot Pot is where you pick your broth, then protein, and veggies --- you can do a la carte, but I usually go for a combo. My favorite is the supreme beef combo with the spicy Thai soup base. You cook all the meat and veggies in the soup base, and can use the 'create your own' sauce bar to take it to the next level. The only complaint I have is the service isn't always amazing... and one of the times, we were rushed out, quite rudely - it may have been close to closing, I'm not sure as it was before the posted closing time. It's a very cool food adventure... getting served a large portion of fresh meat, seafood and veggies to cook in three tasty broths was messy and fun; and exciting to choose how you want the specific item to taste. We ordered the tomato, chicken and Chong Qing Spicy Broths with the CoCo combo. It was more than plenty for the two of us to share. They also have an extensive menu, but opted out of the extras. I have been eager to try Coco Hotpot for the past few years, and finally got around to it this evening. While it's an impressive display of colorful food, it was much less than I expected. With no direction from the waiter (even though he knew we were first timers) we had no idea of how to combine the right sauces at the condiment buffet. Some of the condiments/sauces tasted like old oil, clearly super old or bad quality. Probably both. We also didn't realize how much we were ordering! He should have warned us. In fact, it seemed like he could care less about our experience. The "soups" to cook the food were bland. We had 3 - chicken, mushroom and the spicy one at medium). The chicken was shaved so thin it almost broke apart picking it up. Thankfully it cooked fast and tasted like what it was. . The beef was ok for " house beef". It was so hard to get any real flavor without over salting things. Even the salt didn't work. The best part of this experience was the company and having 2+ hours of conversation and laughs. It was my first time checking out Coco Hot Pot, and I didn't do hot pot. My friends and I ordered some regular dishes from the menu. Their menu was big and offered a variety of options (mainly focus on Szechuan cuisine). The drinks were too sweet for me, but I was not sure if they can adjust the sugar level. Overall the dishes were tasty. I really enjoyed the crawfish fried rice and fish filet w/green peppercorn. My least favorite was Szechuan beef chili bowl because I was not a fan of that beef texture. After a disappointingly meh experience at CoCo Hot Pot Bethel a few years ago, I decided to give them another go a few days ago. Still not a 10/10 but the food was enjoyable. Most of their negative online reviews deal with hot pot and staff/service issues. So I avoided both by choosing 3 a la carte dishes for takeaway. Everything was packed well and hot, plenty of steamed rice. Staff still the classic no-BS CoCo style. Chinese style Kung Pao Gai. Very flavorful, marinated thigh meat with lots of roasted peanuts. I added ** 特克)東** (**very spicy**) into the online kitchen notes section and apparently it was noticed. Wow! So many wonderful red chilies. Feel the burn. It was 100% fire. Chinese House Tofu. Visually i was initially disappointed since "House" anything generally means it's special. But the flavor, I'm guessing oyster sauce and ginger, was craveable. Fried (then braised) tofu cubes with broccoli, carrots, bamboo and garlic. Shredded Pork with Dry Tofu and Bamboo. One of my top favorites I always ordered back east. Haven't found a great version lately. General Tsos Bethel made a decent batch IIRC. And while this was pretty good, eating the leftovers mow, I'm still on the hunt. read more

Took my mom out here for Mother's Day and surprisingly my parents love it here, I'd you have Asian parents you know how big of a deal it is if they actually like a restaurant! Their general tso chicken is actually perfectly crisp and bursting with flavor, their specialty items like the garlic shrimp is also a must (it does take pre-ordering since it takes a while to cook). I got their braised pork belly as well, this dish wasn't what I was expecting actually. It was soft and lots and lots of char sui sauce. Flavor was good but a gooey texture was not my thing. I really recommend the mushroom broth. Not a fan of malal at all. One bite abs my mouth went numb. I can eat spicy but it had way too much peppercorn. It seems to be a you love it or hate it thing with this but many people aren't fans, at least those who aren't used to this ingredient. This is not an all you can eat one price place it's very expensive for A La Carte. $12 for a plate of mixed raw vegetables is a little bit ridiculous. $5 for each single one. Meat options $33 for just 2 types. So you will be limited in what you can try due to the cost. There was a dead large crab in the fish tank by the bathroom area. Just laying on his back so be aware if you order crab and lobster that you look first and don't end up with something like that. The menu will say 15% gratuity included but then the receipt will suggest ANOTHER tip at the bottom with amounts and another tip line. Read your receipt you will already be paying for the tip. This place makes a killing I imagine so we will check out other hot pot places before coming back due to the price. For 2 people with 2 drinks and 2 meat and 2 veggies it was over $100. Ellie age 10....This place was really unusual, but really good. First I have to tell you a big warning: My daddy got something mild , and it was super hot. Like AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! That hot. Ok, so here's how this place works. They come with a huge bowl of broth and put it in the hole in the table, which is a stove. Then they bring a box of ingredients and a plate of meat. You drop the veggies and ingredients in, and hold the meat in with a stick, wait for it to boil, pick a.sauce a the sauce bar, and basically make your own dinner! They have regular dishes you can order too. Like some really good soup dumplings I got. But mama didn't like the vinegar chicken because it didn't taste like vinegar. One of my good friends had been trying to get me to try Hot Pot for some time now. But his go to spot was closed since COVID. However he heard about Coco's from a friend. So we decided to test it out. We came here with 2 other friends so it was a 4 person experience. Food: A So we ordered 3 flavors but separated them into 4. We got 2 chicken broths and a Spicy Thai and Chong Qing Spicy. I can say that all of the broths were really good. Then we got the Beef and Lamb combo for the table. It came with some vegetables and noodles. Also we ordered rice with this as well. So first before everything came out we went to this like sidebar with special sauces and seasonings and stuff to get loaded up first. Then they brought out the broths and set everything up and turned the heat up and brought us the food. Everything was really good. One thing I liked is the ability to make your food how you want it. It was definitely an experience. And it's best to go with someone who has experience in a hot pot restaurant as well. It makes it a little easier to figure out what exactly is going on. Service: B The service wasn't bad at all. The server came out and explained everything to us as best she could, she kinda had an accent, but i never hold that against anyone. But it made it easier because my friend already knew what was going on. So everything was fine. She was nice and got whatever we needed. No complaints Environment: B This place was set up just as you would expect. It had the typical asian restaurant feel to it. There was a good amount of room and everything was clean. Summary: Coco's Hot Pot was definitely an experience. If you are an adventurous eater then i'd highly recommend this place. Especially if you are into the Asian cuisine, then you have to come. It's better to come here in a decent size group, because it feels like Hot Pot is almost made for people to come together and enjoy together. My boyfriend and I came here after Coco's being recommended to me by a dear friend. We were served quickly and the servers were incredibly friendly. Understanding the menu was easy for me as I've had hot pot before. The broth was very flavorful. We had the tomato broth and the spicy one. Warning: we had medium and it was VERY spicy. Overall I would come here again but since everything is a la cart it can be expensive. read more
