Came here for dinner with a group of friends. The interior was lovely and spacious with a festive feel. We were seated towards the back, which was cozy and comfortable. I knew I wanted to try the Half Peking Duck to share. We also ordered the Roast Pork Lo Mein, Scallion Pancake with Beef, Truffle Shrimp Shumai, Pumpkin Pancake, Pan Fried Fish Dumplings, and Pork Soup Dumplings, which were free, due to a special promotion. The Half Peking Duck was served cut up with the crispy skin, cucumber, onion, and oyster sauce, along with perfectly thin pancakes. The Duck was delightfully tender and well seasoned. The skin was a bit on the fatty side. It also could have been more crispy. All the trimmings worked well with the duck, including the crunch of the cucumber, sharp and savory profile of the onion, with the sweet, umami taste of the sauce tying everything together. Roast Pork Lo Mein was delicious and was packed with roast pork, onion, mushrooms, carrots, and snap peas. Noodles were cooked well. Roast Pork was juicy and flavorful. Veggies were fresh and nicely crunchy. Scallion Pancake with Beef was also quite tasty. The pancake exterior was satisfyingly flaky, with plenty of yummy beef and sauce inside. Truffle Shrimp Shumai was delicate, layered, with wonderful truffle taste and succulent shrimp. Pumpkin Cake was oh so sticky, slightly sweet, and mouthwatering with real pumpkin flavor. Fish Dumplings were lightly fried with mild flavored fish filling. Pork Soup Dumplings were just okay, as the skin was too thick and there was not enough soup inside. It is difficult to impress me when it comes to this dish, because I am from Shanghai, so know how the original, authentic version tastes. For dessert, I wanted the Mango Pomelo Sago, but they were out. A few minutes later, the waiter appeared with one on the house! This was a beverage that was light, refreshing, and citrusy, but the quality of the sago was not good and there was not enough of it throughout. Also got to try the Chocolate Mille Crepe Cake, which had many thin layers, was soft and fluffy, as well as wonderfully rich in chocolate goodness. Service was solid. Surprisingly delicious dumplings, and even surprising that they have a good amount of options for vegetarians! Sunday walk-in got us a decent window seating and noise levels were on the lower end. Our order consisted of Canton Wonton Soup, Shanghai Soup Dumpling, Four Colorful Soup Dumpling, Truffle Vegetable Shumai, and Lotus Leaf Rice w. Vegetarian Chicken (2 pieces). Dropped in for a quick bite, had the Dan Dan noodles with some peanut sauce and the short ribs with plum sauce, both were sooo goood. Plating and presentation were done so nicely. Was passing through rush hour in NY, and decided to try a restaurant closer to our current location. Big regret. Often when you are hungry, food is more acceptable for a picky palate. Siu mai is my toddler son's favourite, he never turns it down and is generally easy to please. The instant he put it in his mouth, he spit it across the table, hitting me. I began to scold his manners, until I realized it was unusual behavior for him. How bad could it have been? I tried a new piece, and realized it was undercooked and rotten. I quickly agreed with his reaction. My wife tried another dish, some pork which was raw. We're not usually the type to be difficult or waste food but we had to complain about it. We may have gotten one item comped but quickly paid and left, then drove for an hour for another dim sum place. Even though the service and seating areas were pleasant the food at Dim Sum Bloon was bad. I never say that food is outright bad but what we ate here was not dim sum. The turnip cakes weren't even traditional turnip cakes. However, the worst part was that we had to leave so much of the food uneaten as it all had a concerning freezer taste. I was genuinely concerned about the quality of the meat. I was excited about this meal but left with a bad taste in my mouth. We met our city cousins on New Year's Day, and they were raving about a new Chinese eatery 2 blocks from their apartment. First impressions were good - a clean look, not overdoing the oriental themes. Good smells. Pleasant wait staff showing us to our table. The menu was full of good things, and we were told that it would soon be expanded. We ordered a number of appetizers, and they all excelled. Standouts were the turnip cakes and the soup dumplings. On to the entrees. The Chilean sea bass was extremely tasty, but quite small when it was spread among six eager eaters. The fried beef strings were fabulous. Topping off the festivity was the Peking duck - plenty of food here. My wife's favorite was the moo shoo vegetable. I was really surprised by the quality of the food. I started off with the thai tea which was sweet and the tea flavor was extremely prominent. It was off to a good start already. I ordered the colorful soup dumplings, spicy wontons and truffle shrimp shumai for appetizers. Everything came steamy hot and I loved every bite of it. The dumplings had juice, the wontons were coated in this amazing chili hot sauce, and the truffle shrimp was bursting with flavor. For our mains, we got the barbecue spare ribs which was plated super nicely and had a nice smoky flavor to it. I was most excited for the peking duck. I'm disgusted. I ordered steamed fish with vegetables last night. DId not get to open it iuntil today. Not a single spick of steamed fish. All vegetables. Did they run out of fish and didn't bother to tell me? . The roast duck rolls were vastly inferior, hardly any duck! Another thing: I asked for a larger bag for this takeout order, since I could barely hold both handles together. The guy said "they didn't have any." Disgusting! Will never go there again. Dim sum bloom is just two blocks from my house. I do love a great dim sum. I hear great things about their fare from folks in the neighborhood. Unfortunately the two occasions I came by for lunch was cut short by the odor of that new industrial disinfectant that some restaurants have decided to employ. This place uses a lot of it. I've actually smelled it outside passing by the very same restaurant. Smells awful and gives me a splitting headache. Whatever happened to bleach or ammonia? The soup dumplings were 3/5 - most of the soup had leaked out. I suggest tri-dim west for great delivery soup dumplings. The other dumplings were tasteless 2/5. Finally the turnip cake was very encased in a flaky pastry that was distracting and oily - 1/5. Went for lunar new year during the Super Bowl. It's a pretty nice place with good service. We were given chinese new year themed keychains and a red envelope with a coupon for next time. They had a restaurant week menu that offered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees for $52 for 2 people. The portions were large and it was way more than enough food for 2 people. We got 2 restaurant week orders for 4 people and family styled it. My favorite dish was the Grand Marnier prawns. They were huge shrimp battered and fried over lettuce, tomato, and walnuts topped with pineapple and a sweet white sauce. Sweet, rich, and delicious dish. We had 2 orders of stir fried beef noodles which were savory and good. The noodles were soft and wide like the consistency of Thai noodles, and the dish was sufficiently beefy. The beef could've been juicier and tastier though. The king pao chicken was fine. The mouth watering chicken was good but spicy. That was over cucumber and topped with a sauce, peanuts, and scallions. We got 8 soup dumplings and they were tasty, the right warmth, and better than din tai fung. There was so much food that we took 2 entree's worth of food home. Very solid Chinese food overall, but it depends on the dish. read more
