I think the customer service was fine. She was friendly. I mean, we didn't chat or anything Bc she had a line to get through lol I'm not sure what the other reviewers experienced but I didn't have any issues with service. The pork turnovers and baked bbq bao were delicious. However, the siumai and hargow were a bit disappointing. The flavor wasn't great with the siumai and the hargow texture was weird. Oh this hole in the wall joint on the corner of 27th Street and Broadway Ave is not much to look at. Small business owned and operated. But they sure do make an outrageously delicious fried Chinese sesame ball. Awesome five stars. They are huge, fried perfectly, and stuffed generously. Redbean paste stuffed and fried in sweet sticky rice dough. Yum! They are only 75 cents each. Yeah! But with a name as Dim Sum House, I wanted the dim sum to win me over. To me, the rest of the dim sum pales in comparison to the superstar sesame ball. They sell sui mai Pork dumpling 85 cents, fried pork dumplings 75 cents, egg custard, steamed pork buns, baked pork buns, har Gow, fried taro, almond cookies, and Chinese tamale. The tamale was made with torn chunks of preserved pork belly instead of sliced Chinese sausages (lap cheong). I didn't see or taste any other ingredients; no Chinese peanuts, mushrooms, or duck egg yolks. The whole tamale was bland. The sui mai had a flavor profile different than what I am use to, it was still ground pork though. The staff is super sweet. The woman that helped me was friendly and earnest.She spoke English with an accent. I had one communication glitch. I asked if they had a menu because I thought they sold entree items besides the dim sum. She went on to open all the dim sum lids to show me what they had for dim sum instead of providing a menu. My favorite to-go dim sum place EVERAHH!! It's a hole in the wall on the corner on 27th and Broadway. Never ever have I enjoyed a potsticker full of flavor, meaty and packed with ginger. This this at least 3 bites of yumminess. The porky filled Har Gow mixture has crunchy water chestnuts. They are not the 'pop in your mouth'. A meaty 2 bite delight. They also have delicious crispy big tarro turnovers, baked and steamed pork buns and seasame black bean balls. OH they are also a full menu of Chinese food with daily specials. Sundays are typically my dumpling days. I see this unassuming place everytime I drive down Broadway and have been meaning to stop by. This morning I was headed to the bank and they literally turned on the open sign and popped open the door, 20 minutes before their posted opening time. Made me detour to grab some goodies and eventually forgot to go to the bank because I was excited. The prices are ridiculously low compared to other places in Sac, and its a bit of a sleeper. I love finding hidden gems, especially when I've lived here a majority of my life. Since it was early they didn't have everything out. I ordered what was out. The whole non steam section was delicious. Baked cha sui bao, these are a must have for me anywhere. But this a major sleeper for me. I didnt have high expectations. The bao didn't have the lofty brioche look or a sheen from the typical egg wash im used too. But...the dough wasn't as dense as I expected and the filling was flavorful. Savory and sweet, not underwhelming like some places and not overpowering from the sweetness. It was a harmonious balance. The lady there told me I needed to try to taro turnovers. I was planning to get them anways but she told me they were the most popular item. SOLD. I took a bite and can immediately see why. The crispy outer layer contrasted perfectly with the creamy taro, and the pork/mushroom filling was seasoned impeccably. I think the same filling was also used in the chewy saltwater turnover. I was impressed with these too. Both the sesame ball and saltwater turn over had a thicc (no 3rd c) chewy texture. Def recommend. The dumplings on the other hand was mediocre. It threw me off when I ate the pork dunpling and it had diced water chestnuts. Not an ingredient I am used to in these. The pan-fried pot stickers weren't really pan-fried, it didn't have the crispy bottom like I expected. She told me it had ginger. cabbage, and pork. There is a reason why she led with ginger as the first ingrediany, it has a strong ginger punch. Shrimp dumpling was pretty standard. read more

Agree with other reviewers that some of their dim sum is mediocre at best - their shumai is bland, shrimp dumplings mushy and pork buns just OK. No dine in service available since the start of the pandemic. The owner (female) is not very friendly as other reviewers have noted. Oh and if you want an extra hot oil packet it'll cost you $0.25... even if you just purchased $30 of dim sum. Least expensive piece is $0.85. The best potstickers! If you like ginger, these potstickers have a good amount of ginger in them. They are delicious. The fried pork dumpling are also delicious. The steam bao is also good. Sieu Mai and Har Gow is decent, but not my favorites. The four stars is because they run out of my favorites fairly quickly. Best to arrive early. Also, the selection offers few choices. Dim Sum House. Sunday about 10 a.m., made a spontaneous stop on my way home from a Target pickup. Open til 3p.m.?, although apparently it may be slim pickings by then. I heeded the advice of other Yelpers to go as early as possible since they sell out of some items. I heard folks placing orders for half and full dozens of dumplings, and knew I was in a happy place. I got 4 dumplings and an entree size chicken with broccoli. Well, 3 days later, I'm still eating that chicken entree. It's just as tasty as day 1, just heat and add sauce of choice. They deserve 6/5, from my experience. The potstickers which are $.80 / $.90 a piece are to die for. Get at least one of each to try! I was blown away. The shrimp dim sums are very good as well. The wonton soup and the wonton soup with shrimp as to die for. No job. The size is large, and a lot more than how much other places offer. We ordered 3 and were stuffed. The house made noodle dish was unique but tasty. The noodles were dry, not hot / freshly made in the house. With the sauce, it softens them up. Altogether the flavor is exceptional. Not the best baked pork bun (prefer the steamed not the baked at this spot) but still good quality. Whenever I try a place for the first time, I will try everything I ordered without additional sauce(s). Today I got sui mai, baked pork bao, fried taro dumpling and the Sunday special (Kung Pao chicken over rice). Some may say the food is under seasoned, but without additional sauce, overall it was not bad. Get sauce. The sui mai has water chestnut in it. Although different from other sui mai I've had, the texture variations were welcome. Sauce this one. The baked pork baos looked like nothing special on the outside. No shiny egg wash on the outside. A good amount meat inside and not overly sweet. The bao by itself was nice and soft. Surprise, I put chili oil inside this. Did it need it? No The fried taro dumpling is good. Nice crunchy outside, with a slightly sweet inside of taro and pork. I didn't need sauce for this, but I won't mind a little of whatever sauce I'm feeling that day (usually chili oil). The Kung Pao chicken wasn't like any other Kung Pao I've had before. Some places like to add bell peppers, onions and peanuts, but not this one. The Sunday special I ordered wasn't spicy at all and had carrots, celery and peas. Was it tasty? Yes, even without adding chili oil it was fine. A lot of food for under $6. Next time, I'm getting that fried taro dumpling and baked pork baos again. Then try the pot stickers and har gow next. Maybe the special, depending on the day. read more

This is based solely on the Sesame Balls, which were 5/5. My parents have told me that this is their favorite place for sesame balls so I came here on Wednesday around 11am. They had a lot "in stock" at the time and were only 75 cents each! I got three and ate mine immediately. I like the ratio of "mochi" vs. red bean inside. The mochi texture is thinner and perfectly crispy. I would come here all day for their sesame balls if they were healthy. Street parking only. read more

The dim sum is just about the same as the previous owners but the service is nice but terrible. I saw a fellow Yelper check in here and I was almost off work so swing by I did. One person ahead of me and before they were finished with him, she asked me what I wanted. This would have been fine but with her speaking so fast, it took me having her repeat her self 3 times before I understood what she was saying. I gave her my order and sure enough, I had to keep repeating my order minus the one item she pulled. Come-on, if your trying to speed up things, it's not working.
