HK Style Milk Tea - Definitely tasted like it was made with condensed or evaporated milk--I recognize that flavor anywhere. Rich, creamy, and honestly very satisfying. Like accidentally-burned-my-tongue hot. Once I recovered from my poor decision-making, I enjoyed how traditional it tasted. Very Chinese/Vietnamese comfort-food energy: simple, warm, and intentionally mild so it pairs beautifully with stronger-flavored dishes. Steamed Rice Noodle with Fried Bread - Very clean flavor profile with a nice structure that held together well. The fried bread maintained a satisfying crispness inside. My mom especially loved this one, and I found myself pairing bites of it with the congee. Chicken Claw with Black Bean Sauce - Oh yeah, this hit the spot for my Asian bloodline. A very classic flavor and exactly what I was craving once it hit the table. Compared to Vietnamese chicken feet, this leaned more into that signature Chinese steamed softness rather than chewiness. My brother actually preferred this style because it's easier to eat around the bone. One thing I noticed, though, was that the flavor became salty pretty quickly if eaten back-to-back. You order at the register and then proceed to get your utensils, drinks, etc. The store felt clean and the finishes inside were pretty nice. Food wise, my family tried an assortment of items including Siu Mai, Har Gow, fried pork puff, and the shrimp rice roll. Overall everything was good, but there was some items that could use improvement. The fried pork puff was extremely oily, and the shrimp rice roll was pretty small in comparison to some of the other dim sum shops in the area. On the plus side, everything came out hot and fresh and the Siu Mai and Har Gow were large servings. Service wise, the staff were very attentive. Although some people might gripe about it being self service, I don't think it's fair to rate them low considering that's a pretty common concept in today's standards. King is a self serve dim sum restaurant. There is self serve hot tea and water in the left-hand corner. There was a lot of seating when we went. Inside is a bit small for multiple large groups, however. The portions were large, and we had enough food leftover for the next two days. The hargow and lotus leaf wrapped rice were our favorites. The hargow itself was larger than other hargows in Housto, and the skin was soft and bouncy. One order of the lotus rice came with three, and the rice was moist and chewy. I also really like the friend bean curd with shrimp, which was super crispy. Everything else was pretty fresh and were huge. Pan fried pork dumplings were meaty, juicy, and flavorful. I was disappointed that the beef tendon noodle soup was actually beef tripe soup. They said that menu board and menu are incorrect. I came to Dim Sum King Express for a small gathering. We ordered just about everything on the menu, which was smaller than the original Dim Sum King. I think it opened in November 2024. But the sign has been on the building since summer. The service style is a fast-food restaurant, just order from the counter and food brought to the tables. In my opinion, the dim sum at Dim Sum King is the best in Houston Chinatown. The food is always made fresh and service is always good. The parking is a little tricky at this location on weekends. I normally park at Sterling Plaza and walk over here. I also tried Hong Kong snacks, such as noodle soup and rice plates. The prices are very reasonable and portions were smaller. The original Dim Sum King has enjoyed a substantial amount of fanfare, that it only made sense to open another location in this busy and emerging part of Chinatown. Open as of a few months ago, this express version is an excellent concept of self service and dim sum at all hours. The process is simple: diners seat themselves, serve themselves, and order a limited menu of dim sum items a la carte. The ability to serve oneself as much tea and cold water along with utensils, plates, napkins and sauces and condiments is admittedly quite cool. To go boxes are also available, as well as silverware for the chopstick challenged diners. Despite how small looks from the outside, the seating is abundant enough to where groups of various sizes should be able to find seating. Crowds are at their heaviest on the weekend and it's also a constant flow of people dipping in and out. One area that few people will ever remark on is their excellent use of natural lighting and interior lighting. The latter is incredibly beneficial for food photos. In a word, the food is solid. The beef chow fun (乾炒牛河) was a surprising highlight, with tender chunks of beef, well seasoned noodles, and excellent "wok hei" (#1). The portions are hearty, especially for the price. The gluttonous rice in tea leaf (糯米雞) were generous at 3 per order and the rice noodle crepes for beef and shrimp (牛/下場分) were silky with substantial amounts of sweet soy. The shumai (燒賣) and shrimp dumplings (蝦餃) are of a nice size but standard flavor wise. The chicken wings and pork spare ribs are average. However, not all is recommended. BBQ pork buns (叉燒包) and the XLB (小籠包) are extremely disappointing and incredibly doughy. The same could be said for the egg custard buns (奶黃包), which had the consistency of chalk and lacked the runny sweetened egg yolk that folks should be seeing. The staff is incredibly nice. It is a mix of Cantonese and Mandarin amongst the servers, who because of the current format will insistipping is not necessary. They do bus tables as well as serve food. Their top recommendation tends to be the beef noodle soup (紅燒面), which is one of their current specials. Even if the dim sum variety is limited, the prices, friendly service, and self serve format make visiting this place an easy alternative from the regular banquet halls. When you enter, you're greeted by bright lights and spacious clean tables. You can seat yourself where you'd like. You fill out their order form and pay at the cashier. There's a $15 minimum when paying with card. The food came out fairly quickly. Ordered the crab king shiu mai, steamed shrimp dumpling, and the steamed beef rice noodle. They all came out hot, flavorful, and just what I expected for typical dim sum. There's a self-serve station that has hot tea, water, utensils, condiments, take out boxes, and plastic bags. Will definitely have to come back and try more of their other dishes. Wished they had their complete menu. I also think the card minimum should be $10, but that's just my opinion as someone who may not want to order a lot of food. Parking is not really an issue, unless it's peak times. This was my first time trying Dim Sum, and I've heard great things about it. However, my experience was disappointing. I'm not sure if it was because I was in a large group, but the service was chaotic. When the food came out, it was served at different times, and the servers reached over me while I was eating to make sure they weren't serving me twice. That was rude and distasteful service. Since I'm vegan, the dim sum options were primarily carb-based, and I didn't see any vegetables on the menu. I ordered 1 mango glutinous cake, 1 fried salty bread, 1 red bean sesame balls, 2 steamed buns, 1 steamed rice noodle and bread, and 1 soya sauce flat noodles. I ordered plenty to share with my family. I didn't care for the mango cake since it was covered in shredded coconut; I don't like shredded coconut for texture reasons. My favorites were the red bean sesame balls and fried salty bread. Everything else was severely bland. The steam buns didn't have any filling in them. The noodles came stuck together and unflavored. Everything is self-serve and you order at the counter. They will ask for a tip when they didn't do much of anything. I'm sure I gained 10 lbs on each item because it was all carbs. You order on a piece of paper and then self serve your water, plates, and sauces. We got the steamed shrimp dumpling and shiu mai, chicken feet, pan fried pork dumpling, steam shrimp rice roll, and soya sauce beef flat noodle. The classic shrimp and pork dumplings were pretty solid, I especially liked the shiu mai. The chicken feet had a good taste as well but didn't have too much meat. U really liked the pan fried pork dumplings. The steam shrimp rice rolls were decent, they were really small. We ordered a lot of foods but my favorites were the BBQ steamed bun, sauteed beef with flat rice noodle, ha cao, and the fried shrimp ball! This place is smaller and more modern compared to the other location - seems it caters more to the younger audience. The inside is bright and the restrooms are super clean! It is more of a self-serve place meaning you'll order at the counter, get your own plates/utensils, and drinks then the servers will bring out your food. I've been here multiple times and the service is always amazing, Kelly, Tiffany and Ashley were very attentive and always take good care of our table. The ambiance was very nice as well, the red accents on the wall really add to vibe. DSK is self service with the tea and plates on the side. It makes things very convenient, if I need something I can just go and grab it without having to wait. Many restaurants do this now and I enjoy the convenience of it! When I walked in, there was a pretty nice vibe. The red design on the wall gave it a cool touch and I was excited to try it. However, things got worse. First off, you're doing counter service, which isn't a bad thing, but it soon will. They have a large water cooler where their water is. I was thirsty, so I got some water. However, I tasted it and spit it back in. It tasted like dish soap and plastics! I sniffed the cup and realized that they all were not washed well. Next, I tried to go on my phone. For some reason, they didn't have good cell coverage, so don't go there to work. Then our food arrived. Prices were affordable, ranging $2-5 per dish. I was excited for the shrimp dumplings and the barbecue pork buns. I tasted the barbecue pork first. It was very over steamed, and there was too much bun and no meat. Next, the shrimp dumplings. I don't like the new concept of their store. You walk up order sit down and then you have to go get your food from them so it's kind of like self service like a McDonald's of dim sum. They still expect you to tip them for serving you, but you go get your own drinks and your own napkins and your own utensils. They have a much more limited menu than what they used to, so a lot of our favorites are no longer sold, which was disappointing. We were really looking forward to some of our favorites. I guess if you're looking for a very basic menu of dim sum and you don't mind that most of it is frozen and just heat it up then this could be quick. Tried this restaurant for the first time today. I am a fan of dim sum and am always in search of a new place. The food is not bad, but the price makes up for it. This restaurant is one of the less expensive dim sum places. This is one of the few places that ask for me not to tip. They say there is a self service station for drinks and utensils, so they do not expect a tip. The food initially came out slow, but once it started coming it came out rapidly. My family is a big fan of the original Dim Sum King, so we decided to give this place a try. We came on a busy day, but got a table fairly quickly. The restaurant itself is small with maybe only ~10 tables. It is a place where you self serve your own drinks and grab your own tableware which is fine. One issue that has me giving this place a lower rating is that they do not have enough soy sauce or chili oil jars. When asked, the staff (very nicely) asked us to find a table that had bottles or ask the other customers if we could get some of theirs. Throughout our dining, other customers also had the same issue and the staff had to take bottles from other tables. The food itself unfortunately does not compare to the original Dim Sum King. Every dish is bland and the seasoning seems off. The soy sauce itself is bland as well. The dumpling wrappers are thick. Overall, although the staff are great, the lack of basics and the quality of food has me disappointed. read more

I came to this restaurant today to buy some dim sum to celebrate Chinese New Year. I am from New York and here in Houston to visit family. The dim sums are freshly made to order and a good variety of selections to choose from. We ordered 14 orders of dim sums and three noodles dishes. The place looks newly opened, decoration is modern and the place is very clean. Dim sum are delicious and the beef chow fun has that authentic wok flavor which made it very tasty.
