After craving some dim sum, I decided to try out the newly opened Dim Sum King. The concept of the restaurant is self service. You order at the register and then proceed to get your utensils, drinks, etc. The store felt clean and the finishes inside were pretty nice. Food wise, my family tried an assortment of items including Siu Mai, Har Gow, fried pork puff, and the shrimp rice roll. Overall everything was good, but there was some items that could use improvement. The fried pork puff was extremely oily, and the shrimp rice roll was pretty small in comparison to some of the other dim sum shops in the area. On the plus side, everything came out hot and fresh and the Siu Mai and Har Gow were large servings. Service wise, the staff were very attentive. Although some people might gripe about it being self service, I don't think it's fair to rate them low considering that's a pretty common concept in today's standards. The staff also makes it very clear from the moment you step in, so it's not a surprise. Overall, I think this restaurant was good to try but I have had better dim sum elsewhere.

King is a self serve dim sum restaurant. There is self serve hot tea and water in the left-hand corner. There was a lot of seating when we went. Inside is a bit small for multiple large groups, however. The portions were large, and we had enough food leftover for the next two days. The hargow and lotus leaf wrapped rice were our favorites. The hargow itself was larger than other hargows in Housto, and the skin was soft and bouncy. One order of the lotus rice came with three, and the rice was moist and chewy. I also really like the friend bean curd with shrimp, which was super crispy. Everything else was pretty fresh and were huge. They were missing a few of our other dim sum essentials such as the turnip cake but other than that, we really enjoyed the large portions and freshness of the dishes!

My experience at Dim Sum King was decent. The food was good, the service was pleasant & welcoming & the decor is modern. My friend and I dined in on a Saturday after lunch & it wasn't busy at all so we received our food in a timely manner. The ordering system is simple, they hand you a sheet a paper & you checkmark the items you want. Once you're done you pay it at the front counter. Here is the item we've ordered. * Steam custard cream bun- custard was smooth and silky. 4/5 * Steam shrimp dumplings- good 4/5 * Steam shrimp rice noodles- decent 3.5/5 * Sticky rice meat wrap- probably my least favorite. It didn't taste fresh. It was like it was re-steamed a couple of times. The meat was bland. 2/5 * Fried crab claw shrimp- it's an item I always order when I eat dim sum. It came out fresh and piping hot. The batter was crispy and the inside was filling. 4/5 * Curry fish ball- simple but good. The curry sauce could've been stronger. 3/5 * Fish ball noodles- I ordered this to go. This is a simple dish that there's no way you can mess it up. I enjoyed it but they could've added some more bok choy. 3/5 Overall I was satisfied. This location is more on the express side. They offer lesser items but more than enough to choose from. If you want the full menu then go to their original location a couple of streets down. Will I come back? Yes.

Overall good experience! Service was friendly, restaurant and bathroom were clean, food made fresh to order. I liked the self service station for tea, soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, and to go containers. Food was good but not the best dim sum I've had. Pan fried pork dumplings were meaty, juicy, and flavorful. I was disappointed that the beef tendon noodle soup was actually beef tripe soup. They said that menu board and menu are incorrect. Chicken feet were a bit too sweet for me. Custard bun was good but I've had better. Wrappers for dumplings were definitely handmade but a little too thick for me. Would we return? Maybe...but there's so much competition out there, I'd probably want to try somewhere new.

I came to Dim Sum King Express for a small gathering. We ordered just about everything on the menu, which was smaller than the original Dim Sum King. I think it opened in November 2024. But the sign has been on the building since summer. The service style is a fast-food restaurant, just order from the counter and food brought to the tables. In my opinion, the dim sum at Dim Sum King is the best in Houston Chinatown. The food is always made fresh and service is always good. The parking is a little tricky at this location on weekends. I normally park at Sterling Plaza and walk over here. I also tried Hong Kong snacks, such as noodle soup and rice plates. The prices are very reasonable and portions were smaller. So, I could eat a couple of dim sum dishes. Because they don't take reservation, you have to wait for an open seat.

Dim Sum King opens a second location in the Bellaire Chinatown Center, however this is definitely an express version of the original location due to them not offering the complete menu. When you enter, you're greeted by bright lights and spacious clean tables. You can seat yourself where you'd like. You fill out their order form and pay at the cashier. There's a $15 minimum when paying with card. The food came out fairly quickly. Ordered the crab king shiu mai, steamed shrimp dumpling, and the steamed beef rice noodle. They all came out hot, flavorful, and just what I expected for typical dim sum. There's a self-serve station that has hot tea, water, utensils, condiments, take out boxes, and plastic bags. Will definitely have to come back and try more of their other dishes. Wished they had their complete menu. I also think the card minimum should be $10, but that's just my opinion as someone who may not want to order a lot of food. Parking is not really an issue, unless it's peak times. It can get pretty full with the other businesses in the same plaza.

I think I came during grand opening so I had some expectations, but everything was so mid. The best thing there was the custard bun. The service was very nice though. The vibe of the place is very nice and bright.

My uncle and I tried a relatively new place in Chinatown called DimSumKing express. They have a main location but opened up this satellite location down the road. You order on a piece of paper and then self serve your water, plates, and sauces. We got the steamed shrimp dumpling and shiu mai, chicken feet, pan fried pork dumpling, steam shrimp rice roll, and soya sauce beef flat noodle. The classic shrimp and pork dumplings were pretty solid, I especially liked the shiu mai. The chicken feet had a good taste as well but didn't have too much meat. U really liked the pan fried pork dumplings. The steam shrimp rice rolls were decent, they were really small. The beef flat noodle had a bland flavor but I didn't care I will always eat dishes like this. Decently good for a fast casual dim sum place

    Yum!

Love the shrimp balls!! Very good flavor and size! Rather order at the counter than deal with the NASTY ladies at other dim sum places down the street that will remain nameless (about 1 mile west across beltway 8 on Bellaire) Will be back!

Self serve: Hot and cold water and hot tea, dumpling sauce, and napkins. Calvin is very hospitable and welcoming. His attention to detail is wonderful! The reason we ended up here is a great story! San Dong dumplings were closed on a Monday. I needed Dumplings for my friend! I look over in the parking lot and see Dim Sum King. I have heard of them... I know they are different... so let's give a try! The seating is aesthetically pleasing. There's enough space to have a large gathering and enough space to have your individuality. The wood furniture gives everything a warm feel with the caramel leather seats. The red and the white walls pop. I got pan fried pork dumplings to go. :)

The mapo tofu is one of the best we've had outside of Bellaire with spicy, savory, numbing, and warmth that you expect from a good mapo tofu. Crispy popcorn chicken is a classic that's spicy, lightly fried, and crisp. It has an authenticity that other places around can't replicate and makes you keep craving more. The portions are also appropriate for their price. Service is incredibly quick, and you can order as you go and receive your dish within 10-15 minutes, regardless of how busy they are. As for the ambiance, it's loud, it's hectic, and it's simple... maybe a stretch, but makes me feel like I'm eating at a mom and pop shop in the heart of China. This place is definitely a go to if I'm convincing a friend of Houston's great food scene! Rating: 4.5/5

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

I knew it'd be busy since it's a Sunday and Father's Day. But there were groups and groups of people standing outside and inside. I checked in at the kiosk and apparently there were 34 people ahead of us. I was starting to think we wouldn't be seated till at least an hour or so, but surprisingly we only waited for 20 minutes. The server and employees pushing the carts were all friendly. I'd be honest though, when we were first seated I felt like there were a bunch of carts, meaning lots of selection. But after 10 minutes, it was hard to even find one person. So really, you don't got much to choose from. I think it'd have helped if there was a menu at the table, that way we can order more and see what else is there. The shrimp shao mai and crispy shrimp crab claw was top tier. Please do not leave without giving those two a try! You can skip the pan fried pork & chives dumplings. That was a letdown. I think food wise, I prefer Fung's Kitchen over Ocean Palace. I can't speak on their normal course of business, but I just came here for my aunt's 90th birthday celebration as well as a company dinner, which featured a delicious king crab prepared three ways. The service was very attentive in our private room settings and the food was good. It's really the ambiance that sets this place apart. One thing that really has always prevented me from coming here is the price. It is the most expensive in town and while there are plenty of options that aren't as good, well, there are options.
