This is a fabulous old school Italian restaurant, with absolutely delicious fare. This evening was our first time dining at this establishment, and fortunately I made a 5:30 PM reservation. When we arrived the restaurant was only partially filled. Fortunately, we did arrive early, since over the next hour the restaurant filled up, with quite a few people waiting for a table. The restaurant is unpretentious, with seating fairly close together. Now for the food. Before ordering, the owner stopped by, and told us some of the restaurants history, and him being the longtime owner of over 4 decades. He then recited the evenings specials along with interjecting a couple of very funny stories. Each special sounded incredible, and we began our meal with a couple of glasses of a tasty Montepulciano. We shared, one the evening's special appetizers of luscious & creamy zucchini flowers. For entrees my wife ordered one the specials of shrimp stuffed with lump crab meat, in a lobster sauce. She couldn't stop talking about how fantastic it tasted. My only comment was although outstanding, the portion size consisted of 4 shrimp, which was more than enough for my wife, but someone with a bigger appetite may find the order a bit skimpy. For my entree I was drawn to something, which I rarely see on a menu, chicken livers. Although, I thought, for sure, that was what I would choose, the owner in going over the specials cited some of the best menu items, one of which was lasagna. I then told the owner about my dilemma, and I asked him to choose, and the lasagna won out. Although, I missed not having the chicken livers, I consider myself a lasagna aficionado, and, without question, this lasagna moved up to near the top of the list. We ended the meal by having a homemade chocolate layer cake, which was divine. I apologize for not taking any pictures, but I was so excited about the food that my taste buds overrode any thoughts of snapping photos. Finally, definitely run to this restaurant ASAP, but, if possible, I recommend, if possible, to go during the week to avoid the crowds of an obviously very popular restaurant. read more

We had a good dining experience here. To start, they bring out hot, fresh bread, which is always a win in my book. The food was delicious, and our server had a great sense of humor, which made the meal even more enjoyable. The only downside was that the air conditioner was dripping on our table. I'd recommend asking to sit away from the vents to avoid this. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the food, the service, and the laughs! read more

The service was warm and attentive from the moment we walked in, and the food exceeded expectations. A big plus for us, my wife is gluten-free, and many, if not all, of their dishes can be made gluten-free without compromising flavor. DiMaggio's Trattoria in Port Washington - all I can say is Wow and Wow for two amazing experiences on Thursday 8/24 and just 4 hours ago today, Wednesday 8/30. I don't think there is any Italian restaurant with this caliber of overall superiority in every single area: Hands on owners who are naturally loving, welcoming, engaging and who absolutely and fully ensure that the food, the service, the experience are excellent and the customers are beyond ecstatic. The food - artichokes from Italy, chocolate cake and cheesecake prepared by the one n only Mrs Marinelli, amazing hot fresh bread and garlic bread; the mozzarella melts in your mouth, the peppers glide in as well; the baked clams are to die for says my buddy John as he tears off the bread and soaks up the sauce. The fried eggplant is divine. The grilled octopus is delicious and perfectly done. The main course- wait do you still have room - the pork chop, the chicken parm, the blackened swordfish, the lasagna, the Chicken Marsala and the crazy n scream worthy( as in joyful) tricolore gnocchi that will make you want to kiss the chef. We haven't quite made it to the beautiful desserts - the house made chocolate cake, the tiramisu, the fresh cannolis, the biscotti, the tartuffo are sinfully sterling. The inside of the restaurant- the atmosphere is love. Love from the owners Angelo and Eddy and the superb Valentino. Valentino - you are a gem - you took such good care of both big groups in the last week with class, professionalism, fun and efficiency. You are very special. Thank you! We've only gone there twice. The first time, it was fantastic. They had a vegan lasagna (also GF) that was really delicious. They just happened to have it as a special that day. We had good service and everything was just right. Another time we came, having heard they had GF gnocchi. Unfortunately they put cheese in it (who puts cheese IN the gnocchi???). I can't remember what I had the second visit, but it was disappointing. My husband wasn't thrilled about his food, either. Also, it was really crowded, so the service suffered. Outstanding Gluten-free Italian food! The owner has a GF child and has created a delicious menu.

Upon walking in, we were greeted so nicely by the owner and his staff. We were seated right away in the room in the back with a classic Italian town theme. Sitting in this dining room felt like we were sitting outdoors in a classic Italian town with very unique architecture. Certainly a very cool vibe upon sitting. To start, we ordered the clams oreganata and the meatballs. I did not the enjoy the texture of the meatballs and thought the flavor was just OKAY. The tomato sauce that the meatballs were served with was actually really good though. The clams oreganata were good as well but i've certainly had much better in other Italian restaurants. For our main course, we decided to two different specials for the night. My girlfriend had the stuffed shells with red sauce & the lobster ravioli with vodka sauce. Her dish was absolutely incredible. The stuffed shells had a nice texture of the ricotta inside while the vodka sauce with the ravioli was perfect. I ordered the swordfish special that was served over a bed of leaf greens with avocado. 10/10 to both main courses! For dessert, the tiramisu is an absolute must. This place is amazing!!!! The owners Eddy and Angelo took time to speak with us and were beyond inviting. By the time we left we felt like family. I am Italian American and they made me feel like home. We came from Maine and we're so happy to find DiMaggios! The food was nothing short of spectacular! My husband had the Tortellini in Brodo soup and I had 2 meatballs as an appetizer. I'm very picky about meatballs and these were great! They were moist, soft and juice. The sauce was delicious. Then we had an artichoke heart appetizer which was to die for! The sauce was delicious. I was so excited to see these that we dug right in and I forgot to take a picture. For Our entrees my husband had spaghetti alla carbonara which he thoroughly enjoyed. I got the gnocchi Italian flag which had 3 different sauces, Alfredo, tomato and pesto. Parking was a problem: a few parking meters were in front; we parked around the corner and down the hill on industrial Davis Avenue. We were here before COVID in their back room and enjoyed both the food and ambience. This time the back room wasn't available, so we were put into a booth along the south wall. It didn't matter which side of the booth you sat on - we both felt every movement of the people in the neighboring booths. It was a full house and a very loud crowd. The wait staff was apparently in a hurry to get us in and out. On the bright side my dish, the veal scallopini pizzaiola, was delicious. The veal was soft and juicy and the mushrooms, red peppers, onions and tomato sauce were lip-smacking. It also came with a nice dinner roll and butter. A little Italian gem in the middle of Port Washington! The decor is so cute and the back area is set up to make you feel as though you're eating in the outside courtyard of an Italian city. Our waiter Philippe was the cutest and most helpful!! He gave us a lot of recommendations that were spot on. We chatted like old friends and it really gave the place a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the layout, the decorations. The outside makes the restaurant seem smaller than it is. When you first walk in, there are tables, but there is also a back seating area filled with wall paintings and tapestries that are designed to make one feel like they are in Italy. We came here for dinner. Most of the people who come here are Italian. The only reason I note that: we were one of the few people dining who weren't Italian. We were greeted warmly when we came in, but the service inside was a little...biased. The main waiter who took our order seemed more cheerful and friendly with everyone else and rather dismissive with us. He chatted with other people and could barely look us in the eye for long. He took our orders briefly and left like he was in a rush. Never smiled once. No welcome at the table, no introduction to the menu. He simply pointed behind us and said "there are the specials". Did not ask us once whether or not the food was okay. Had no interaction with us after we ordered besides dropping the check and picking it up. On our way out we were given a warm goodbye by who I presume is the owner. We ordered calamari. It was basic; no lemon given, not as seasoned as other places. The entrées were good, but nothing extraordinary. One good thing about this place is they gave us disposable towel/napkins. (Better than the conventional reusable cloth napkin for you germaphobes). The other waiters in white treated us more respectfully. Not sure if this was intentional or not on our main waiters part but it made us slightly uncomfortable and between that and the food we'll likely not be coming back here again. read more

We happened in to DiMaggios on a Sunday afternoon before our flight back to Dallas from LGA. Happened to be stopping in Manhasset for other reasons. WOW was this place wonderful!!! The servers and owner were there and were amazing. They made us feel right at home. And the food was delicious. It was so good, we had to purchase some jars of sauce to bring back to our son who could not join us! We had Chicken Parmesan and also Chicken Francais. First time here with a group of 12. This is a family owned restaurant for over 40 years which allows you to sense tradition through decor and service. Despite a completely packed evening, the staff was very friendly, patient and went above and beyond to meet our needs. You virtually cant go wrong with anything on the menu. From the large pie to the gnocchi bolognese, lobster ravioli and chicken rosemary, we were very satisfied. If you have any room left for desert, the staff can put together an assortment of choices to meet your unique sweet tooth. In addition to excellent wine options, the restaurant offered a round of limoncello if you happen to celebrate an occasion. Enjoyed the food but didn't enjoy the ambiance and awkward seating. They sat my husband and I at a table for 2 that was so small you couldn't fit our drinks, breadbasket and appetizers. The owner is always welcoming and gracious. My friends enjoyed their dishes. My husband likes one of the dark meat chicken dishes. I have yet to order a dinner that I liked. I have hope it will happen. This is a cozy old-style Italian restaurant. One problem is a waiter who we have had the displeasure of having twice. He is always annoyed and acts put-out when you ask for something. As you are ordering his face is a picture of impatience even if you order in five seconds. I don't know if he is related to the owner so hesitate to request we do not get him. If I could ignore his 'treatment' I would but it is too off putting. So, when friends from NJ wanted to meet for dinner after shopping on the Miracle Mile, they left the choice of Italian cuisine to me, I remembered DiMaggio's as a first-rate restaurant!!!!! This is my favorite restaurant EVER, all around. The atmosphere, food, and people, 15/10. I am not familiar with the area, and was craving gnocchi w/ vodka, my favorite dish. DiMaggios came up first on yelp, and the experience was exceptional! I was traveling solo, phone just died, and starving. The owner Eddy was the best! He insisted I sat down, instead of getting takeout, and he would keep me company. Great conversations with him and his staff. He also treated me with their artichoke hearts (amazingg!) and after conversation of my favorite Italian dessert cannolis! My photos are what I had left of the gnocchi. Melt in your mouth! We just had our son's communion party here and Dimaggios was perfection!! The food was mind blowing! The hot and cold antipasti kept coming - burrata, roasted peppers, olives, tomato & basil, artichokes with bread crumbs, fried calamari and marinara, garlic bread- each dish was so delicious!! Then came the salad course, followed by an impressive selection of entrees and it was topped off with our cake and a choice of tea, espresso and coffee!! We even had limoncello! What a way to finish!! I also had guests with gluten free and dairy free requests and they were served wonderful options as well!! Everyone I spoke to raved that this was the best Italian restaurant they've ever been to!! And the atmosphere could not be beat!! We had the entire back room to ourselves and we felt as though we were transported to Italy! It was so authentic! Eddy was so helpful during the planning process and he knew just how to set up the room to compliment our decorations for the occasion! He even put together a beautiful personalized menu for our guests to make their selections! It added just the right touch! The service staff also went above and beyond and were so attentive and friendly!! It made for such a memorable experience!! I can't thank them all enough!! Our son said that "this was the best time of his life and that this is his favorite restaurant." I can wholeheartedly say that we agree!! We can't wait to plan our next event here! I know we will be having my other son's communion here without a doubt!
