First impression walking into the restaurant was phenominal the entire staff was so welcoming and accomodating. The food was fabulous everything was on point! We had a variety of food, Shrimp fried rice, Cucumber salad, pork wontons and a desert that was to die for! Chocolate and Mochi Xiao Long Bao. I came for a dinner date with my friend and we ordered the chicken xlb, spicy wontons, and fried noodles to share. Everything was enjoyable with my favorite dish being the spicy wontons, which I'd say is a must order. We ordered the chocolate dumplings for dessert and this was amazing! It's a very unique dish but you won't regret getting it. Overall, you can probably get better Asian food for cheaper, especially if you went down to the 626, however, this still hits the spot and you can't beat the vibes. We had to support the newest DTF since it was the closest one to us. The parking around the area is horrible especially with construction but, instead of fighting for spots on the ground floor, just go to the other floors in the parking garage. We got there around 11 and got a spot quickly. It does get hectic later. We really liked the design of the restaurant and asked to sit in the steamer baskets. We were awarded with a steamer basket and a front row view to the xlb kitchen. Very cool. We ordered our usual favorites - shrimp fried rice, green beans, xlb as well as a few new favorites - sweet and sticky pork ribs - so good we ordered two, tofu and glass noodle soup (since my youngest doesn't like hot n sour like rest of us), and, for dessert, mango milk snow. The xlbs weren't hot enough and juicy enough. Not as thin as the DTF in Taiwan. The wait staff was great. Our main guy is named Kenny. Everyone was so helpful. Even walked our youngest to the restrooms. I think the restrooms are all unisex. Every stall has a sink as well so there's no long lines at the sink. I believe that's the intention. There's also a place to park strollers. I was told it's reservation only so there weren't crowds of people hovering at the entrance. Makes for a pleasant dining experience. read more

This was my first time at this Din Tai location and it's instantly one of my favorites. It has plenty of room for dining and a substantial bar area. I also like that there are things to do while you wait. Din Tai's food is always amazing and I feel like this location meets that requirement. What made the difference for me was the service! Obed was my server last night and was so kind and helpful. I don't think my glass of water was ever empty and he made sure we were fully taken care of and shared with us the best way to enjoy our experience. I will definitely be back! read more

I've been coming to DTF since they had the 2 tiny locations in Arcadia. Now they received a Michelin star at one location their entire restaurant has not only upped their prices but also changed their menu. Recently they removed the Shanghai Rice Cakes from their menu and didn't offer a replacement. Being said that the food at the Brea location was fine. The signature XLB is still the star of the restaurant but the green beans were underwhelming. The dish we had was limp, definitely not crisp to the bite. The wonton soup was good but the broth was just ok. We ordered the new steak and noodles which arrived much longer than the other dishes, we almost forgot about it. I understand food comes out as prepared but this was way later than expected. To be fair they just opened a week or so before so it's still learning curve. Still, DTF has multiple locations in Southern California including one 10 mile away at downtown Disney and one in South Coast Plaza. Expect to pay close to $120 for 2 people with drinks. They charge for hot and cold tea so it's not just alcohol. And no refill on cold tea. It used to be a place for a quick meal and you could get lunch for 2 for under $50. I'm so happy a Din Tai Fung finally opened in Brea! Right now, they're in their soft opening, so you'll need a reservation. Everything was delicious, some of my favorites were the sweet & sour pork baby back ribs, spicy wontons, pork XLB, and sesame noodles. For dessert, the chocolate mochi XLB with a side of sea salt cream is my go to! The inside is very spacious and modern-looking, and they also have outdoor seating. I feel there's a little overhype with DTF. I've heard a lot about it from friends. Finally had lunch here and the food is just...okay. I'm actually glad they opened one in Brea. The one that opened in downtown Disney is too complicated to get to (expensive parking and long walk). I wasn't aware that they were having a soft opening. When we came in around 11:20 they said it was "reservations only". I was confused, but then they said we could be seated in 10 minutes. OK whatever I guess. BF and I got a small table. Our server was nice. I wish they didn't waste paper making the ordering menus because we could've just told our server what we wanted. We got Chicken XLB and Spicy Pork and Shrimp Wontons. The XLB had broth inside and it was good. My wontons were also decent, but not the best I've ever had. I did like the sauce - bold but not overly spicy. My gripe with this restaurant is that the dumpling size is small, and the portions are also small. XLB came with 10 small pieces, and mine came with 8 small pieces. Sure, the price is lower than I thought, but with the small size of everything, it doesn't feel that inexpensive. The restaurant is spacious, new and modern. I love their bathroom. Each private room has its own sink to wash your hands in, which is pretty cool. I don't see that very often. They were about 90% full during lunch, on a Tuesday. That's pretty crazy. The food itself lives up to the Din Tai Fung standard. Same flavors and deliciousness. The interior design of the restaurant is beautiful, really loved the bamboo steamer shaped booths they had. The line does trickle outside and I think they should do something similar to Downtown Disney where they have a separate line and send people in once their table is about to be ready. It does affect the AC inside the restaurant with the doors constantly open. The service was okay. Understanding this is the soft opening but it does show how things aren't ready yet. Currently they're doing reservations only until the end of August and their kitchen isn't ready with how they can't handle the constant rush of orders. It was very disorganized and you could tell that staff were trying to keep customers at bay for how long everyone waited. Every table experienced the same issue. Being told by staff it'll be out soon, it should be done shortly, so sorry for the wait etc, quite a few times. We waited 15/20 minutes between every dish. They first served us green beans and we waited 20 minutes to receive another item after that and so on. Even after our food was packed, we sat around for another 15 minutes waiting for our dessert to arrive. Check-in process was awful. You stand in line, get to the front while tons of workers ignore you, three people per one iPad. You give your name and reservation is confirmed, then go sit down. Text tells you table is ready, check in with hostess. Hostess tells you to stand back in line, then you get a buzzer and wait again. Food was just okay, lacked flavor. They ran out of cucumber salad but we said we would wait. Once we were almost done with dinner, server tells us salad is ready....20 minutes later he brings it out. This review is made a week after their soft opening . We had high hopes considering their cult popularity. If we had to wait more than 15 minutes for this experience, the stars would've been less. Sleek interiors, check Hostess check-in that resembles a high-end hotel, check. An army of black clad servers, bussers, and a glass wall of white clad and masked dumpling makers, check. Full bar? Not really. No Palomas. The margs had no rimmed salt and more than 2/3 full of ice. Barely any tequila. Not worth upwards of $20 each. Hot food? Ummm no. Of course the server gives us the standard " the soup dumplings will be hot!" Of course, I've eaten at Joe's Shanghai in NYC. We literally poked a hole in our first soup dumpling 30 seconds after the basket came, expecting hot, soupy comfort...and they were lukewarm. Extremely lukewarm. Like how long were they in the basket before they were piled high for bulk dissemination? Fancy presentation potstickers... Also lukewarm inside Only thing that was medium hot was the skirt steak noodles, although they came out in a child portioned plate. Family style? Laughable. Lunch for 2 for $100... and we were still hungry afterwards but counting our losses. This place will be perpetually packed because it checks a lot of boxes. But please take note as you work towards getting the kinks out before the official grand opening. Don't let food sit there so you can make one bulk basket distribution. I'd give the service a 5/5. Both managers, Nitin and Jesse, were extremely helpful and attentive, and our server, Elijah, was great throughout the entire meal. They really made sure we were taken care of. For the food, I'd give it a 4/5. The chicken dumplings were delicious, and I also really enjoyed the chicken buns and noodles. My only issue was with the pan-fried potstickers. I understand they're supposed to be pan-fried, but they came out noticeably greasier than expected. I've had the exact same dish at another Din Tai Fung location before, and it was not nearly as greasy. This new DTF has the most chic interior design and curated decor giving the restaurant a modern and luxurious feel. Both indoor and outdoor seatings areas are HUGE. The staff are friendly and polite. They set up new steam baskets with care including instructions and cleared the table of plates very efficiently throughout the meal. I attended the soft opening with the expectation that the service may be slow, but to my surprise the food came out very promptly one after the other. The pacing was excellent, minus one entree arriving much later than the rest of the meal. However, I'm certain that they'll have that nailed by the grand opening. Pork x Shrimp Shu Mai - 5/5, only 6 pieces but they're bigger than the soup dumplings and have a whole shrimp + juicy pork filling. Green beans - 5/5, my favorite greens at DTF. The green beans are flash fried so they retain their crunchiness while being cooked. I love the garlicky coating! Soy noodles - 5/5, very refreshing summer appetizer. The soy noodles are super thin and don't have bite. They're served in a creamy sauce as opposed to the Taiwanese version I'm used to, but still delicious! Pork XLB - 5/5, signature dish at DTF. I've been to many Din Tai Fung locations across different states and countries so I was really excited when a friend got a reservation for their soft opening at the Brea Mall since it's now officially the closest one to me! I've never been to such a well functioning soft opening of a restaurant before. Everyone seemed to have worked there for years with how smoothly everything was running. We were checked in and seated in a timely manner. Service was consistent and great. The food was 10/10 as per their other locations. The food of course was fantastic, I've never eaten at Din Tai Fung and had a negative experience on the food, it's always perfect. So happy that there is a closer DTF to me, however, today's meal wasn't the best. I do understand it is soft opening though! I ordered what I usually get from all the other din tai Fung locations and oh my goodness, the green beans and the spicy wontons were SO SO salty. Everyone in my party agreed and said the same thing on our first bite. The XLB wrapper was thicker than the other locations and meat wasn't as soft and tender. The spicy wonton skin was also a little undercooked. The shrimp and pork dumplings were good! I hope it gets better when they do grand opening. Claiming it's on its way, waited another 20 minutes, this is my birthday dinner btw and we were hungry in between plates, finally the dish came out really late btw, asked them to just Togo it, couldn't not get out of their faster by the time we told the server the service was horrible he grabs the manager we did not want to talk to by this time there is the manager, server , a I'm not kidding like 5 food runners surrounding our table acting apologetic, where were you guys for the past hour and 40 minutes they're all in their own little world they have wayyyyy to much workers that it makes it crowded in there and I could not have had a harder time getting help/ locating our server/ no one asks how is everything other than your server this guy had his nose far up his team leaders he said that was his excuse for missing half the time. Their system here is so bad I'll never come back, truly avoid. Their district manager also reached out to my husband with a phone call a week later inviting us back saying they sent a $50 gift card (that was false they never did) we never planned on coming back ever. I'll stick with their Vegas location seems to be the only one organized and there's soo many good truly authentic dim sum spots from Oc to LA why bother with this place anymore the crowd their system all their locations being so busy chaotic. This is still a soft open period, but you would not have known it from the crowds. Their food is delicious, especially the dumplings, which can be the best part of the dining experience. The ambiance is opulant, with co-ed restrooms, sparkling lighting and a large wait staff which are professional, and thoughtful. My favorite are the pork dumplings and anything with vegetables. Steak is a bew item on the menu, but my wife says it still needs work on taste. Don't expect anythong too spicy, although you can ramp up the heat with spicy condiments on each table. Plan on about fifty dollars per person and valet parking in front at ten dollars. The addition of Din Tai Fung, located outside and behind Dick's Sporting Goods and across from North Italia really elevated the Simon Shopping Center in Brea. read more

Din Tai Fung at Brea Mall is FINALLY here. Easily the most anticipated restaurant opening in the area this year, at least for me. They're technically still in their soft opening, but you honestly wouldn't know it from our experience. I think grand opening is on 8/31. The restaurant is beautiful. Everything feels high end, modern, and chic, and it's a welcome addition to the Brea dining scene. What really impressed me was the service. Everyone was so hospitable and we were checked on many, many times throughout our meal. For a restaurant that literally just opened, they already seem to have the service down. Also, the DTF Old Fashioned! So good. And yes, I judge an Old Fashioned by the ice and the cherry too. They use the clear big ice cube and the good cherries. Thank you, DTF. As for the food, I'm not even going to list everything we ordered because we ordered A LOT. That's the beauty of Din Tai Fung. Dumplings? Noodles? Fried rice? Greens? Something spicy? Just order away. It's hard to go wrong here. So happy we finally have a Din Tai Fung in Brea. No more driving farther out when the craving hits. We attended the soft opening, and all I can say is WOW! I frequently visited the origianl US location in Arcadia, and the service is night and day. I almost felt like I was in a michelin star restaurant, or I was dining at The Bear. I was preparing myself to see Carmy and Richie start fighting in the kitchen. They had multiple servers check up on us, our drinks were never empty, and they even came and poured our sauces for us. The food itself had the same consistency of other Din Tai Fung restaurants. To be honest, I've never raved over the food and thought it was a bit overpriced, especially to the other restaurants in San Gabriel Valley that offered similar menus. But with this level of service, I now think the pricing is justified. We'll be back for sure! read more

The closest parking structure is next to the Life Time gym. Like most mall parking garages, finding a spot can be a bit of a challenge during busy hours. Valet is also available for $12, and honestly, it may be worth it if you want to save time and avoid the hassle. Another nice touch is the individual restrooms. We dined on the patio, and despite the warm weather, the shades and cooling made it surprisingly comfortable. I went in expecting a few opening-week hiccups (that's what soft openings are for) but there really weren't any. Service was completely on-point: attentive, friendly and professional, and the full menu was available. And, of course, the food lived up to the hype. Our favorites were the cucumber salad, pork xiao long bao (soup dumplings), shrimp & pork spicy wontons, string beans with garlic, and black pepper beef tenderloin. For dessert, don't miss the chocolate & mochi xiao long bao or the shaved snow with fresh mango. Both are excellent. The new restaurant is beautiful, too. A big, polished space that feels distinctly Din Tai Fung and is a terrific addition to Brea Mall. Reservations are currently available on Yelp for many days through August 22, before the restaurant officially opens August 31. We came for their soft opening. Had reservations and maybe waited about 2 minutes. We were sat on the patio, which we initially were worried about since it was so hot but thankfully it cooled down enough to be enjoyable weather. Our server was great, she was very helpful. It was our first time at a Din Tai Fung, so we ordered a bit of everything. I did not expect the Wood ear mushrooms to be cold, so I don't think I would get that one again, only because of the texture. We tried dumplings, both meat and veggie, xiao long bao, both meat and veggie and the Xiao Long Bao were definitely a big hit. We also had the spicy noodles, sesame noodles, and the wok fried noodles. All were great! I understand that the restaurant just opened, so I came in expecting that there might be some growing pains. I also made a reservation in advance, but we still had to wait about 15 minutes after arriving before being seated. After we sat down, we ordered ice water. Another 15 minutes passed with no water, and although several staff members walked by our table during that time, no one stopped to check on us. It wasn't until our first dish arrived and we reminded our server again that we finally received our water. I can understand that many menu items may be unavailable during the opening period, but the service became even more confusing after that. We ordered shrimp siu mai, but sticky rice siu mai was brought to our table instead. The person who delivered it told us that we could keep it, that it would be complimentary, and that they would bring us the correct shrimp siu mai. That never happened. We eventually had to find our server again and explain that we had received the wrong dish. She then took the incorrect siu mai away--so I honestly have no idea what happened to it after that. Thankfully, we hadn't followed the first staff member's suggestion and started eating it. After all of that, we still waited another 20 minutes or so for the correct shrimp siu mai to arrive. I completely understand that a newly opened restaurant needs time for the team to get into a rhythm, and I'm willing to be patient with slower service. But this wasn't just about waiting. The bigger issue was the lack of communication and coordination between staff. We repeatedly had to get someone's attention for very basic things, and different employees seemed to be giving us different information. Hopefully, management can improve the communication and service flow as the team settles in. The food may deserve another visit, but the front-of-house operation definitely needs more organization. read more

The restaurant had power outages on Saturday 8/22 and Sunday 8/23, which I know they can't control, but how they handled it was incredibly frustrating: * They lost power on Saturday, which we found out once we arrived to the restaurant. They offered a new reservation for Sunday afternoon. * On Sunday, they said their power went out at 4 PM, but they still sent my reservation confirmation. * Zero proactive communication or text alerts to let us know they were closed AGAIN. Making us wasting our time AGAIN. TWO DAYS IN A ROW IN 100 degrees weather. * Brea Mall parking is a nightmare, so we paid $13 for valet each time just to get turned away. We came here last week with a reservation for 3. We have been to DTF many times in other locations. Maybe because they are new and figuring things out, service was very poor. It was around a 50 minute wait for our food once at the table, and the sweet and sour ribs we ordered never came, so they struck it from the bill and questioned if we got it, to which we kept telling our server "no". Definitely disappointing compared to our other visits. We felt since we had a restless 5 year old with us, that they would be a little more timely with the food. We might give them some time to figure things out before we return! Food was good though as always. read more
