Kiss You Roll, Kiss Me Roll

X-Fish has become my go to spot for AYCE sushi after coming here almost every other month for the last year. The sushi always feels high quality, the fish is fresh and tastes great. And the extras you can get outside of the nigiri are just as good. I've been to both locations and they're both great so no wrong options. Come here during their lunch hours and you'll get amazing sushi at a really good price. Some of my favorites are yuzu yellow tail and the buttered shrimp, but just go down the line of their AYCE menu, it's all good.

Presentation of our missing food - Hamachi Yuzu Ponzu Roll and Salmon Roll
    Joey L.

The service was all over the place from the moment we arrived. Everyone seemed stressed and disorganized, and unfortunately that translated into a pretty frustrating experience for us. One of our food tickets was completely missed, and we ended up waiting about 40 minutes for our food while trying to figure out what was going on. This order was entered electronically via the QR code, but it didn't print? Mistakes happen, but there wasn't much communication or urgency in getting the issue resolved. What really pushed this experience into 1-star territory, though, was something we witnessed afterward. We saw one of the chefs leave the bathroom and walk straight back into the kitchen without washing his hands. Seeing that from someone handling raw seafood was extremely concerning and completely ruined any confidence we had in the cleanliness of the kitchen. Between the chaotic service, the missed order, the long wait, and especially the hygiene issue, this was a very disappointing experience. We won't be returning.

The food is always really good, but the service today was so awful that I ended up not even eating there and never will again. Today, a worker demanded documentation and a license for my service animal, which I informed them is not legal to request, but that I could provide what services she is trained for, but they still persisted and demanded to see her paperwork, stating that it was a requirement from the managers and all higher-ups in the business. I told them I would be willing to show it as I was looking for it, and reaffirmed that it is illegal to request, and someone else may not be so willing or kind to do so, at which point, he ignored me, and kept demanding the paperwork. The most a business can request for, is the services the animal provides, which I happily provided. I understand people will, on occasion, lie about having a service animal for the sake of being allowed to dine-in, so perhaps the worker assumed this was another similar case, but it was not. It was not only extremely unprofessional, but extremely rude and felt like I was getting harassed to show very private and personal information. I've been here many times with my service animal, and no other worker has ever demanded to see the documentation and license before. When I requested to speak with the manager who instated this rule, I was told they were not available to speak with, and that this rule has been in place since they've opened for business, which obviously wasn't true, because this has never happened despite me coming here multiple times. It was a very distressing position to be in, considering how busy they were and the fact that everyone around, customers and workers alike, were watching and waiting, so now, not only is a complete stranger demanding me for my personal paperwork, I also had tons of strangers listening in and watching intently as well. He is lucky I won't take it further and name him/identify him. After I showed my dog's paperwork, he finally relented and went to go hide in the back, letting others take over the situation, who didn't even know I had shown the paperwork. They only found out when they called his phone directly, which I did not understand, as he was in attendance in the restaurant but did not want to communicate to them face-to-face that the proper documentation had been shown, so we could be seated, yet prioritized hiding himself from confrontation, meanwhile he was so confident in demanding the paperwork beforehand. I hope he learns from this experience so he can avoid this for the next time someone comes in with a service animal. The hostess, host, and waiter who helped me in the end were SO very friendly, kind, and helpful, and even apologized for the inconvenience, the other worker's attitude, and for the overall experience, so I felt really bad leaving at that point, but it was just a lot to deal with all at once and didn't seem worth it to eat there anymore. They were very apologetic and understanding and even tried to convince us to stay, which made me hopeful for a better experience for everyone else going forward, so I appreciate them greatly, and I am so grateful, as they helped me feel a lot better after this whole ordeal. They are the ONLY reason I left a 2-star rather than a 1-star review. I really am just so sad and disappointed and it was a heartbreaking position to be put in. I would never want to be in this position again, it felt absolutely terrible, dehumanizing, and mortifying.

Excellent quality. Peppered salmon so good

Still my fav all you can eat sushi spot. Lunch deal is such a great deal. If you like salmon. Don't sleep on this spot. I hate when all the fish taste the same. But here the salmon is always nice and buttery. Great texture Salmon bomb I get regular salmon and peppered that has a slight sear Udon soup is really good here. Get the Nagasaki spicy udon. Flavor is so good. Little char flavor that I love. This is a must get Fried tempura shrimp is done well Always good food. Always great service. Plenty of parking

Food: the food here is delicious every time I come! Fresh fish and delicious taste. Service: friendly and efficient servers every time. Never an issue all the times I've come. Ambiance: very cute vibes! Love the decor and feel of this restaurant.

X-Fish has been on my list for quite awhile and finally it got to try it. We did the lunch signature $41.99 pp My friends have been raving at how affordable and delish the fish here is esp the toro but I had one order of it and I did not want another order off the menu at all. Only good tasting item was the Alaskan roll. Calamari Karaage is also a good appetizer. Items we tried during our visit: *Baked Mussel - came out on the cold side. Baked mussels is usually warm. *Alaskan Roll *Orion Draft *Grilled Chicken Teriyaki (Half Size) tastes like they used old oil or it's been in the deep freezer for awhile. *Albacore Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Yellowtail Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Baked Scallop Roll *Rainbow Roll - 1 - tasted normal. Walking into the establishment to put my name down it had a fishy smell. But I tried my best to just keep a positive outlook since I've had friends who rave about the place. But after the meal, I felt like I should've listened to my gut when I smelled how fishy it smelled. Restroom needed attention! Female toliet has no toilet seats and just needed to be cleaned up. I personally would not recommend this spot nor would I come back. I just felt very disappointed and like I wasted my money since it was not the best tasting. Tips: *Credit card accepted *Indoor seating only *Serves alcohol *Free street/parking structure nearby *They have another location in Buena Park.

Chicken bbq skewer included in Omakase

Tried this for dinner on a Thursday around 6 pm with a party of 2. We were seated right away, but heads up, they won't seat you until everyone in your party arrives. It's located in a big shopping center with Ralph's and Home Goods. I'd recommend parking in the open lots since it's much easier to find a spot than using the structure next to X-Fish. We went with the Omakase and spent about $60 each including tip. Food was good with a nice variety, including tonkotsu, sushi (of course), and a chicken BBQ skewer. The seafood quality was solid, although u had just gotten back from Japan, so it's hard not to compare. We wanted to try some of their wines, but they only sold it by the bottle, which was more than we wanted. Taking off 1 star because it was very loud inside. I think it's the way the space is built - everyone's voices seem to echo. Overall, good food and decent value, just not the best place if you're looking to have conversation over dinner.

    More sushi, all delicious!

Sushi is delicious! Our favorite is smoked salmon, the giant scallops, yuzu yellowtail and Cajun tuna. We enjoyed everything but the tri peppered sushi, they were mildly flavored and underwhelming. The first two rounds of our order arrived quickly but the third time we had to get the servers attention to pick up the order sheet (I noticed another table had to do the same) staff passed by our table multiple times and didn't pick it up. This time the sushi took a long time to arrive, it pushed us to the 90 minute time limit. I appreciated one staff member coming by and giving grilled chicken skewer sample (very good!) The restaurant is round shaped and the acoustics inside is awful. It's very noisy and it's difficult to hear the staff. The chairs scrape on the floor. Also the table tops have water damage from the ice water glass condensations, coasters would help. The restrooms were ghetto. One of the women's sink was out of order, one of the stalls was out of toilet paper but the big roll was precariously hanging from the stall door hook and it fell and rolled on the floor. For the price I expected a better experience.

It's almost $45 a person and it's supposedly renowned but call me picky it's just not worth the hype or cost. Wait times can be extensive due to the popularity. You're limited to 3 rounds (20 pieces each) of nigiri. You're also limited to 2 rolls and 2 appetizers or something absurd for the online menu and have to wait in between to order more. Quality of fish is ok compared to other places I've had, but for the cost it's nothing spectacular. Overall, it's better AYCE than other places I've been, but it's on the higher cost end for AYCE. The overall ambiance is nice and fancier. It's really clean inside and feels premium.

X-Fish Izakaya is in a great location at The RAYA, surrounded by Ralphs and plenty of restaurants and shops. It's a beautiful, convenient area and the restaurant itself has a nice modern feel. The food was pretty good overall and the presentation was beautiful. I tried a nice variety of premium nigiri and sashimi, plus some kitchen items. Unfortunately, some of the premium fish was warmer than I prefer my sushi, especially on a very hot day, which took away from it a bit. My biggest frustration was the ordering system. There are limits on how many kitchen items you can order at once, and somehow I found myself ordering ONE little mussel at a time. Even worse, while that order was pending, I couldn't order other kitchen items. Thankfully, one of the servers noticed my frustration and eventually brought me a handful of mussels -- I really appreciated him doing that. Service was okay overall. Everyone was nice, but I think it could be a little more attentive and accommodating- the hostess simply dropped me off without explaining anything to me and no one came to my table for several minutes. There are better sushi spots in the area in my opinion, but X-Fish is still a solid option with good variety, attractive presentation and a great location. I'd probably come back, especially if they simplify the ordering process.

X-Fish is just okay now. This is our go-to spot whenever we want to eat AYCE sushi, we either go to this location or the Buena Park location. Both are the same as far as price, service, and quality. I do find that after ordering the 1st round of sushi, the 2nd round and so on usually take a while to come by. Not sure if that's intentional or if it just happens to be busy as the day progresses. To get your moneys worth definitely stick to ordering to their paper menu (sushi bar) Nigiri is only 10 per person for each round though and everything else on that menu is limited per round. Rolls are okay here too, it's a hit or miss. One time we ordered the BP roll and spit it out because it tasted rancid and when we complained they said it could just have had a higher level of mercury because they prepare the batches in bulk every morning. The ramen/udon are also just okay. Like I said, I do frequent both locations often because they have really good seared salmon! (Tri-peppered salmon)

    Sandy P.

I enjoyed this location as well. Quality is consistent and delicious. My top choices are the seared salmon choice and yuzu yellowtail nigiri. Each person gets 2 bluefin tuna nigiri maximum! I enjoy their fried calamari and baked mussels. Skipped on the rolls because they'll fill you up quickly.

Best lunch Sushi deal in town. If youre in the area, come try their lunch special. They are AYCE with unlimited rounds. Fresh sushi quality with a decent amount of selections. Pretty loud inside but not a deal breaker.

If we choose the Omakase option, can we skip some of the sushi and just order the ones we want on the omakase set? thanks.

Typically, that's not how omakase works, but if you don't like something, you're not supposed to be able to choose. Omakase is chefs choice. If it's an already known set, then it's just a set. Now, you can tell them that you do not want…

Yelp and website state they take reservations, but when I called, they said they do not take reservations. anyone know the real answer?

They are always quite busy. You show up and you sign in on their guest registry and they will notify you when your table is ready. They do not take reservations.

Does everyone in your party have to do the omakase? Or can some of them do the signature?

Everyone in your party must opt to the same one-- either the omakase or the signature.

Does everyone at the table must order AYCE if only one person wants AYCE?

    I would assume so.

I understand it's AYCE, but do the rolls come in half rolls or only full rolls?

Rolls only come in full rolls. No half rolls.

How much do they charge for lunch on weekend? weekday?

Lunch X fish option is only available from open - 2pm, Monday through Friday.

    Do you guys have uni?

    Unfortunately, no uni sushi.

    Is the omakase AYCE?

No it's not. You get an Omakase plate but just 1 plate chef's choice

Can you eat here on your own or does it require groups of 2+?

You can be a party of 1

    Reservations not available on weekends?

Yes, or you can use the yelp app to join the waiting list

How long is the typical wait time at 7pm on Fridays with no reservation? I was only able to get a 10pm reservation

their reservation isn't accurate, you can put yourself online first, and then, on Saturday I had to wait for an hour, luckily the main street in Brea seems to be colorful and worthy taking a stroke down the Birch street

Our server wasn't very personable but also not rude or terrible. I felt a little rushed even with a small menu. Being that I had never been there before, I wasn't sure what to get so I pretty much just blurted out whatever. What we ordered: 1) Black deluxe chicken paitan with pork - the broth was so tasty, it was absolutely delicious. The pork slices were generous, however, it was DRY. 2) Pork chashu - for my kid. They loved the broth as well and also felt that the pork slices were dry. I wanted to give 4 out of 5 stars, but I am going to hand them a 3. I loved the tasty broth, but the pork was too dry. How could you mess that up as a ramen restaurant? The portions looked a little smaller than what I am used to paying for much less money. That photo of my black deluxe chicken paitan with pork is very deceiving. It looks like a lot, but it definitely wasn't. I usually can't finish my bowl of ramen in one sitting and take the other half home. I barely had any broth in there, and being that the broth was very good, I was disappointed to run out of it before I was even done with the noodles and meat. Would I return? Sure. I liked the food. It's not a place I would go out of my way to eat at, but if I was around the neighborhood and wanted ramen, I would dine there again.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Great ramen, sushi, and more for everyone!…read more The hubby and I'd learned about this place from a vegan acquaintance and were intrigued enough to make the trek from Long Beach to check it out. Located in an older shopping center, the interior had a clean, pleasant homey traditional Japanese look to it, but it did feel a bit cramped with divider walls. The main attraction for us was their vegan menu, of course, which turned out to be amazingly extensive (they have non-vegan stuff too). Generally, even if a restaurant offers vegan/vegetarian items it feels like a token afterthought, but not here. In addition to the ramen and sushi items we were expecting, there were a bunch we were not, like "meaty" dumplings, fried "shrimp", and "chicken" katsu curry (which I had to try). I was really wowed by this dish; the "chicken" felt like an actual breast meat filet, and the crispy coating was great. The curry was the real star, which had all the right flavors and texture that I remembered. The hubby had the Vegan Ecstasy ramen, which he really enjoyed. It had a delicious creamy broth with broccoli, corn, tofu slices, and delightfully chewy noodles. We also shared a vegan caterpillar roll; couldn't tell what they used for the "eel" (eggplant?), but since the star of caterpillar rolls is the avocado and sauce, it had the right flavor and texture. We were with my non-veg brother and nephew, who shared a salmon roll, CA roll, and spicy pork won tons, which they really liked. According to my brother the wontons were very spicy, with a lot of chili threads on top, so beware. They also gave us some complimentary vegan matcha ice cream at the end (has nuts, fyi), which we thought was a nice touch. The great food, service, and prices so wowed us that we brought my sister and her family here to celebrate some birthdays. I'd called ahead to reserve a table for our party of six, and we were sat at the large semi circle booth at the back. We ordered an assortment of veg and non-veg items and everyone loved the food. This is now our go-to for vegan ramen and Japanese food, especially if we're meeting up with non-veg people.

After wondering how they've stayed in business for so long, I finally decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. The food completely exceeded my expectations. I ordered the Blaze ramen and the spicy tuna appetizer, and everything was absolutely delicious. It was a 10/10 experience, and I keep thinking about it days later. Safe to say I'm officially a huge fan and will definitely be back.

Very unexpected place to find a Silverlake Ramen as I would think Brea or Fullerton may be a better…read morelocation option but here I was, stopping by to satisfy yet another ramen craving. The restaurant itself is VERY small, with about 4 small tables indoor max. There's outdoor seating available but it is not shaded, so it isn't the best option if you're eating a hot bowl of ramen on a warm summer day. The layout of the restaurant is very strange, because the seating area is literally smacked within the restroom and the kitchen - so you're either seated right by the bathroom or beside the kitchen area. Parking is located in the rear. Service was very good. I was greeted right away, with the order taken and my food served promptly. It was busy for a Wednesday night but the two staff handled everything well. My ramen was a 6/10. I actually did not like the Pork Belly as it tasted very gamey. The ramen lacked flavor and I know it wasn't just me because the customers next to my table had to asked for soy sauce. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner at Silverlake Ramen, but there wasn't anything spectacular about my visit that would warrant me going back.

Props to Mazera for that Do note - Parking can be a PITA, you can street park if the lot is full. I ordered the #2 - chashu mazemen--wow incredible bowl of noodles, sauce was savory with a hint of spice, chashu was tender, egg was perfection, and noodles were "al dente" just like the way I like them. Also ordered the fried oysters- I'm a little biased here because I prefer them raw so they weren't bad but I can do without fried or baked style oysters, just not how I roll! We'll definitely be back here again!

The service was great and our server was incredibly friendly! My husband got the bulgogi mazemen and thought it was flavorful. They do give rice at the end to help you soak up all the leftover flavors. I got the tofu veg mazeman and was incredibly surprised with how flavorful it was. It was so delicious. I did take the kale out of it because it seemed like it wouldn't fit the flavor profile and I think it was a good call. No additional sauces or additions are needed. Highly recommend stopping by the next time you're in the area.
