It's a little annoying because their lunch AYCE ends at 2pm and we were sat at 2pm and they told us it was dinner menu only. The ambiance is simple yet modern. The service was pretty good. You basically get a QR code that you can and then you use your phone to make the selections and send it to the kitchen and it is brought to the table. Besides that, this was a great AYCE sushi option in Brea and the locals clearly know because the place is loud and packed the whole time we were dining there. We came in with no expectations and waited about 30 minutes--not bad at all considering how busy they get. We decided to go with the omakase AYCE, but it came with a few surprises. It's not exactly a true all-you-can-eat experience--there's a limit of 20 pieces of nigiri per round (up to 3 rounds), plus only 2 hot items per order. It felt a bit restrictive and slightly misleading for AYCE, which was a little disappointing--especially since many AYCE spots have similar limits on premium items. That said, the highlight was definitely the bluefin tuna--fresh, flavorful, and worth it. The omakase option gives you access to more premium cuts compared to the regular AYCE, where you're limited to just a couple pieces. Came here on a Saturday at 5pm and the wait was about 1 hour. Checked in on the waitlist for a party of 2 in front of the restaurant and went for a quick drink across the street while we waited. I noticed not all tables were filled when we were seated, probably due to lack of staff that night? Not sure. Either way, you scan a QR code to order your food, including drinks. Service was very slow and the food came out slowly too. Our first round took about 25 mins before arriving - we immediately put our second order in when our food came. We ordered the standard Ayce for weekend, not the omakase. I will say the omakase is a good choice if you're really hungry or if you like bluefin tuna. My favorite nigiri of the night was the seared tuna, so fatty and delicious. Everything else was fresh as well. I will say their regular tuna tasted odd though. X fish is a good place in Brea for Ayce, I've come twice now. I'd say give it a shot if you're craving decent sushi, just make sure you have the time to spend waiting! I've been to Buena Park location before but decided to try this one since reviews seemed a bit better. We came on Valentine's Day, fully expecting it to be busy, but we ended up waiting about 2-3 hours and didn't get seated until 9:30pm. Service here is the same as the Buena Park location, you'd have to flag servers down to place orders. They don't really check in on you consistently like other restaurants do. What I do like about X-Fish is rice-to-fish ratio. Rice portions are small and fish cuts are generous. Peppered shrimp nigiri, salmon, and bluefin tuna were really good. Only item I would avoid is ikura. It didn't taste fresh at all and honestly had an off taste that made my stomach hurt. Appetizers are solid like croquettes, cheese balls, and edamame, but miso soup came out cold.. which was strange. If you're looking for an AYCE sushi spot with attentive service, I'm not sure this location or Buena Park one would be best choice. To be fair, host did try his best to seat us sooner, which I appreciated. They did check in periodically but when I asked for bowls to share the udon we ordered, I had to ask 3 diff waiters to finally get me the bowls for our table. I have driven past this place several time and finally came in with the boyfriend on a Wednesday night. It wasn't too crazy busy we added our names to the Yelp waitlist and were seated within 10 minutes. We did the all you can eat, if you've never been here before you ordered everything through your phone by scanning a little barcode they give you on a piece of paper and you can also select certain Sushi from the list that they have. Restaurant is super clean, very well lit from what I can remember. The only complaint I would have is that the seats are wooden and hard on the butt to sit on. We decided to order a bunch of dishes to try mainly albacore, yellowtail, salmon, and tuna. Everything tasted very fresh, melted in our mouths. We've been to both the Buena Park and Brea location multiple times. Between the two I'd say the Buena Park location is the most consistent in terms of service and quality. Just dined at the Brea location today for lunch. Started off with a bit of a wait after being seated - waiting on the order sheet and QR code to access the kitchen menu. To order you will select the nigiri and special limited qty items from the order sheet and kitchen items like appetizers, noodles, rolls and drinks from the QR app. There are two options for the AYCE experience. We usually go with the standard. Interesting experience today - nigiri was okay, some were hastily constructed where the rice was super loose and breaking down in the soy sauce and unagi came out without any sauce. Quality was still good but a bit of extra work in terms of fishing out the rice and asking for sauce. Overall just okay experience but maybe an off day for the team. I'll give them another try soon. I high recommend the appetizers especially the calamari and mussels. Carpaccio is a must and don't forget the premium fish. The Buena Park location has various yakitori items they bring out through the visit - chicken skin is to die for. Wish they had it at the Brea location. Parking is right next to the restaurant in the structure. When timing your visit, keep in mind that the dining experience is 90 minutes, so for lunch showing up before they open at 11:30 or at 1:00pm is perfect if you're looking for the shortest wait. read more

Maybe the X in the name is a Roman numeral. Fish quality was fine for the price, normal cuts, small rice, great for AYCE. Nothing mind-blowing, but definitely serviceable if you're going for "volume" over finesse. Be aware of their leftover policy in fine print, which stipulates a charge of $2 per piece, which includes leftover rice. The vibe would've been better if we weren't seated behind a table with multiple screaming children of "gentle parents." Definitely less than ideal, but not the restaurant's fault, though noise did seem to travel and echo to the point where getting a waiters attention when their back was turned was impossible because the ambient sound was so loud. I highly recommend the buttered garlic shrimp, any of the peppered ones, the mackerel, and the tuna. The chefs made a mistake on our order and they made it seem like it was our fault. They gave us the wrong order and tried to make us eat it..excuse me I'm not going to eat something I didn't order. It was annoying. Then they lied and said the order they brought out to us was the same thing but it wasn't, it was clearly a different sushi. The waiters acted like they were annoyed at our bigger party...I know they were busy but that's no way to treat your paying customers whom you force a tip for because of our group size. I came back to X-Fish Izakaya for dinner today really wanting to update my review to 4 stars. Last time I was here I knew it had the potential. After my first round, I was hopeful, as I was having an experience worth 4 or 5 stars. The salmon was melting in my mouth, the Kiss Me Roll was delicious, and the appetizers I ordered were great too. The miso soup was way better than last time. However, during our second round, more people started to file into the restaurant. With this, the quality of fish seemed to have gone down. The salmon was now tough and stringy, and the Kiss Me Roll I previously loved now had a chewy, stringy salmon wrap. The third round made up for it a bit, so I imagine the second round was a bit of a bad batch. But not enough to move me up to 4 stars. Great deal with really good salmon. X-Fish is definitely somewhere I'll be coming back to just for that. But overall, I'm giving my experience today a 7/10. It's really good when it's good. Just inconsistent. read more
