My husband ordered the pork katsu with curry, and after stealing a few bites, I have to admit his was even better. I actually wished I had ordered the curry version! The rich, flavorful curry really elevated the dish and made me realize that the regular soy sauce and wasabi dipping sauce could use a bit more depth in comparison. Overall, it was a very satisfying meal, and I'd definitely come back. One tip: try to avoid peak meal times. The restaurant fills up quickly, and the wait can get pretty long. I decided to stop by this mom and pop shop in Brea, which is run by a very friendly and welcoming Korean woman. She seated us and provided great and attentive service. The inside was cozy and I liked all the decor and cleanliness of the restaurant. For food, we got the salmon bento and the soba and pork katsu combo. The bento did not look like the picture, and while my mom enjoyed the salmon she thought everything was just ok and not the best for the price. I enjoyed the soba and katsu. The katsu especially was crispy and nice with a good portion, but it was missing the salad. I'm not sure if it didn't come because it was part of the combo. The soba was good, but it seemed too sticky, like the noodles had been sitting out for a bit too long and stuck together. For dessert, we ordered the Hokkaido soft waffle, which was not crispy on the outside and soft on the inside as the advertisement said, but it was still tasty! It tasted like a pound cake to me. We decided to try something new today, and we were just underwhelmed. The lady brought us waters, and my boyfriend found a flake of some sort in his cup. It looked like shaved skin or something translucent. He asked for new a cup and explained what he saw and she did not apologize. The food came out quickly. The food portions were big, but lacking quality? Flavor? My boyfriend's chicken was really dry and salty. My salmon was okay. The egg rolls and gyoza seemed like frozen foods. Maybe it's cause we didn't order what they're known for? But I unfortunately don't think I would come back. read more

Visiting from out of state, saw this place with 5 star reviews. We are so glad we tried it! It's in a small space, so seating is limited. But if you have to wait, it's worth it. The service was efficient and helpful. The food is made to order, but also came out in a timely manner. We ordered the eel bento box and the pork katsu curry. Wow, fresh, hot, and so delicious. Some new flavors, and it's authentic. The prices are affordable as well. I Can't wait to go back! We would probably order the same thing because it was that tasty. Good service when you dine in but the place is very small so it can fill up quickly. They gave us these homemade potato chip appetizer that my toddler son loved. I've tried the pork katsu, shrimp tempura appetizer, udon, and eel bento and they are all solid options. My son loved the shrimp tempura which had a very crispy light batter. For udon- I would skip chicken udon and get beef belly or tempura udon instead. If you don't feel like cooking and don't want to spend a fortune eating out, check this place out! Everything was so beautifully presented. Everything tasted great! There was such a variety of dishes too. (In addition to my main dish, there was a side of rice, soup, seaweed salad, cabbage salad, pickled vegetables, macaroni salad, fried onions, generously sized fried appetizers, and rolls.) It's not a big joint and seating is pretty crammed together but for a sleepy neighborhood place, the food is filling and fresh. My chicken (bento) was saltier than I'd liked. The side dishes were a little bland and the fried items were mediocre but the udon soup served with my meal was really good and so were the tamago/spam rolls. Good variety. Great value. Service was pretty negligent. While it wasn't outright rude, it was extremely slow and the lady wasn't very friendly. That aside though the main reason I wouldn't be back is because the food wasn't very good. My husband and I ordered the pork katsu curry set. The food came out and immediately I noticed how thick the pork katsu was. The cutlet looked like it hadn't been pounded flat at all, making for a very thick cutlet. The flavor wasn't bad, but it was difficult to eat as it was so thick, and it wasn't the traditional Japanese breading I was looking expecting. Still tasted good but definitely disappointing. While the curry tasted good, it was cold from the second we received it. I don't understand how it was served like this. All in all, I wouldn't be back. The owner is incredibly kind and clearly works very hard. He's hands-on and you can feel that care in the food and service. That kind of effort always makes the experience better. If they can make it thinner like other places, i think it will get really good! The fried part was so crispy and good! Udon's soup was not salty and rightly measured! Really like the soup. I've been here for take-out about half a dozen times. And each time has been consistently great! I always seem to order the same things and can't stray! Everything I've tried so far has been delicious. My go-to is their beef belly bowl. It's so good. And even tho I try to be low-carb, I can't help but eat most of their rice! Something about it is really good. Love how they add the red pickled ginger with it too. Their pork and chicken katsu's are also really good. The crunch stays really crunchy by the time we get home to eat it and the meat is tender. The chicken is my preference over pork altho I also enjoy the pork! I've also had their curry on several occasions. Sometimes I get the full curry meal and sometimes a side of it. And the side is reasonably priced. The service has always been great. The interior is small and clean but there are always tables available to eat when I've walked in. Prices are reasonable and the only negative is I wish they were closer to me! read more
