A fun outing! Went here on a weekday, right when they opened at 11am. We did not have reservations, and were the first people seated. The restaurant was almost completely full about 30-45 minutes later, so keep that in mind. The service was also great. The staff was so nice, patient, and very attentive throughout our visit. Sharp piece of china in my food !! Din Tai Fung has been one of our family's favorite restaurants, which makes this experience especially extremely disappointing. During our meal this evening, I bit down on a sharp hard fragment that appeared to be a piece of china/ceramic that was in my food. The impact caused immediate pain, and my tooth has remained sensitive since the incident. I took photographs of that piece. My biggest concern was the dismissive way the issue was handled. When I brought it to management's attention, I felt the seriousness of the situation was not fully acknowledged. I was told it was "organic material," and there was no clear discussion of an incident report or next steps regarding a potential injury. The managment's response felt like I am trying to sensationalize the issue leaving me confused and anxious (because it being sharp, I am still worried about it entering my system). Finding a sharp foreign object in food is a significant safety concern, particularly at a restaurant with Din Tai Fung's reputation for quality and service. I will be following up with the restaurant and documenting the incident appropriately and following up other departments of state related to food safety, if need be. In the end, the host noticed we were ready to pay and helped call our server over. The server did come by to clear our plates while we were eating, but didn't really check in or ask how the food was. This was my second time coming to a Din Tai Fung location, and although it was good, it did not beat the experience I had in Seattle. This one was also in a shopping mall, and we were one of the last tables to get sat at night. The best dish ended up being the one I didn't get, some type of spicy peanut noodle dish. Generally, I rave about the soup dumplings, so of course we got those and they were good, but I expected them to be spectacular out of this world based on my previous experience. The Geza were yummy as well, and the service was good. This place is solid! It's one of the best and most consistent of their restaurants that I've been to. The dumplings are always so fresh and flavorful! My kids can't get enough of this place.
