I'm very late to review this place! I had every intention of writing my review immediately and be the first one to do so. Life got in the way, but I have not forgotten the details. I had moved into my new home in the Pearl District just a couple of hours earlier and needed a break from unpacking boxes, so I decided to just start walking to find dinner. When ordering, I had a question for the server and he didn't know the answer. I asked if he was new and he told me everyone was new and they had just opened an hour earlier. I couldn't believe it. I told him I was also new as I had just moved a block and a half away. I ordered the Pork Belly Stir Noodles and chose the Large Wide noodles because I love a fat noodle. The dish was simple and not heavily seasoned, but somehow it was exactly right. The only thing I'd change next time is the noodle size. I think I'd go with the "Thicker" option instead of the Large Wide. I definitely want to try the various other dishes too. Ironically, I haven't been back because there's almost always a line. I even tried meeting friends there once, but we ended up getting tacos down the street rather than waiting because we had some overly hungry folks in our group. This was my second visit to the restaurant. Our first visit was when they just opened. At the time it was very crowded but service was fast and attentive. Food portion was generous. We tried the spicy pork flat noodles which was very tasty. We've also ordered the appetizer cucumber and the celery with bean curd, both delicious and generous in portion. We thoroughly enjoyed that meal. This time, we ordered appetizer celery with bean curd again, and the woodear mushrooms. The portion seems a bit smaller than the last time, and the price went up. Both dishes have uneven seasoning where some pieces very salty and some have zero flavor. We've also tried the noodle w/ground pork sauce, that was quite good. I might give this place one more chance to see if they could maintain flavor consistency. read more

Visited twice since they opened. First time had to wait about 40 minutes, which I feel is not worth it. Not many vegan options, I got the vegetable chow mein, which seems like the only vegan entree. You can select the thickness of the hand pulled noodles and the texture was quite satisfying. I recommend the thicker noodles. I wish the dish had more vegetables. The overall taste was okay, a little oily, good portion size. I also had a passion fruit tea which was better than expected. The menu looks like it's geared more towards the American taste and is on the more expensive side for Chinese food but inflation I guess. Some servers do speak Chinese so that was appreciated. The restaurant was crowded both times we went (Saturday lunch/dinner). My fiancé ordered the Lanzhou hand-pulled noodle soup. He said the soup was okay but the noodles were great. read more

Drove out here 2 weekends in a row and both times it was worth it! This place is family owned and they make everything on the premises. You can see the uncle pulling noodles in the kitchen or making the wrapper for the dumplings. The restaurant is big and has lots of seating, with options of bar, split booth or table. The decor and vibe feels fresh, bright and modern. My favorite dishes are the smashed cucumber salad, pork xio long bao (xlb), spicy beef noodle soup (the meat is so tender and flavorable), and the dan dan noodles. For me, i didn't care for the flat beef noodle. It just wasn't my thing. Overall, I love this place and it's the closest food that I am very used to in Las Vegas. I spoke with a few people who work there and they are nicest people I've met in the Portland area. I can't wait to come out here again and bring the rest of my (grown) children here! read more

We stopped by on a Saturday, within the first 30 minutes of their opening, we were seated quickly and there were about 3-4 tables of people at the time. Our server was attentive through out and courteous. We liked how modern the place looks, I think the only thing to pick on is how things are stored. The beautiful bar area has a rackful of supplies next to it, and the back of the restaurant towards the restrooms were piles of canned beverage and some random office metal cabinets. The food were all delicious, the noodles were chewy and perfectly cooked along with tasteful soupbase. The dim sums are modern authentic and full of flavors. Portion is decent, given it's a downtown location. I would give this place a 4.5 stars for th few minor stuff mentioned, we would come back just for the noodle alone. read more

I got the spicy beef flat noodles. I really enjoyed how tender the beef was and that there was a lot of beef in a single entree. Also, the spicy was actually very spicy, which never seems to be the case at most places nowadays! Very solid Chinese restaurant in the Pearl District! Wait can be quite long especially on the weekends but I found the quality and flavors to be quite good. Couldn't get seats the first time we came around but got to finally try them out this time! The hype and line have died down a bit which is nice. Honestly didn't come in with very high expectations but their Spicy Flat Noodles rock! Delicious, chewy noodles cooked in a perfectly balanced sauce. So flavorful. The Braised Pork was also soo tender. Their Spicy Chicken was refreshing and flavorful as well but got a lot of bones in it so be careful. I'd skip the Sticky Rice Shiu Mai though. We were happy with everything we ordered as each dish was fresh and packed with flavor. The manager, Jay, was so hard working. This restaurant recently opened in December 2025 and we visited on a friend's recommendation. Flavors were excellent! The broth is cooked daily from simmering bones, tasted light and did not weigh us down afterwards. We rarely finish the entire bowl of soup! Ok, I admit it. The cute little piggy bao reeled me in and I had to try this place. I ordered the egg yoke bao, vegetable chow mein, vegetable fried rice, sauteed string beans and pan fried veggie dumplings. Thats right, I'm vegetarian. Every item was delicious! I came to X Noodles & Dumplings with high expectations. The hand crafted noodles met expectations and you can taste the authenticity. From a flavor perspective, it wasn't my favorite for the mapo tofu and chili wonton. For the wonton, you're much better off at Dough Zone or DTF for the sauce and flavor. The beef roll was as expected. For me, I'm glad this place exists, especially in downtown. Brings good Chinese flavor to the Pearl. The interior is modern and pleasing and the big windows helps make it feel upscale. Service was attentive. You can expect to come here and have an enjoyable Chinese meal on the more authentic side. Had been eager to try X as it had received a lot of buzz in the neighborhood and finally made it in for lunch last sunday. I'll start by saying, based on the reviews, we were definitely nervous about there being a line. However, upon showing up at noon on a Sunday we were quickly sat. The place started to get busier as the afternoon progressed to the point where there was a wait by the time we left, so just go early and you shouldn't have a problem. The atmosphere itself is casual but clean and nice. They had some simple but nice decor up and the tables were nice. They had solid staffing and we were quickly attended to throughout the meal. For food we went with the Dan Dan noodle and the wide noodle with pork, along with some assorted dim sum to start the meal. The dim sum was fine but nothing to ride home about. It was clear that the noodles were the real stars of the show. They tasted quite fresh and it was nice that you were able to order them in whatever preferred width you'd like. The dan dan were rich and creamy with a strong peanut influence which I personally enjoyed. The wide noodles were also tasty, however the pork pork was a little fattier than I would have liked. All in all the food was tasty, there were just a few areas I think they could improve. For one there were no sauces at the table for the dim sum. Typically you get an assortment of soy and chili oil but we had to request those and then also request spoons for the vessels. Additionally, the noodles are so fresh and also long that actually putting them on your plate when sharing is a struggle. My favorite place for chicken chow mein, but you can't go wrong with any dish. Everything comes flavorful, super fresh, and great ingredients (I've been to a few places where I felt like crap after, this is not it). Love these guys. Came here with a friend for lunch. We ordered the won ton in chili sauce, the beef burrito, and the Dan Dan noodles. Won Ton - This is up there with some of the other good won ton dumplings around town. The wrap was silky smooth and the stuffing were flavorful. The chili sauce is on par with other dumpling places. Dan Dan noodles - this dish stand out a bit as the dan dan sauce is taste and texture different from any other places. It wasn't bad, just different. Its thicker and isn't nearly spicy enough. The fresh pulled noodles were well done. Beef burrito - this starter plate was probably my favorite. My friend stated that it tasted like a pho wrapped in a crispy roll. I agree. It was so lively on a weeknight Lunar New Year but I heard it's busy most nights! It made for a great atmosphere. There was a line after 6 but the food was worth the wait. We got the chicken with spicy sauce which was good and actually a cold dish, but beware that it has bone so if you don't like that then skip this one. The sauce was so good we saved it to spoon onto dumplings, and it wasn't that spicy. The pork and shrimp xiao long bao was so good too, I would try the pork and crab Xlb next. The Dan Dan noodles were tasty with the sesame sauce, and it had chili oil but wasn't too spicy. The tea was pretty light even near the end. We celebrated my partner's birthday here after seeing it absolutely packed so many days in a row when we walked by. It's well worth the hype. We didn't have to wait when we arrived at ~5:30 PM on a Sunday, but it was already pretty busy. Service was very fast and our servers were attentive. To drink, I ordered the X and the Lychee Sour. Both tasted excellent and were of moderate strength. The X was my personal favorite. The real star is the food, though. Wow. I had never tried potato salad like this, and it was so deliciously crunchy and spicy! It makes me want to try making it. My partner ordered some pork soup dumplings, which he devoured. For mains, my partner got their signature beef noodles, which he said were cooked perfectly and had some of the most tender beef he'd ever had. I ordered the tomato and egg noodles and was floored at how much flavor they packed into that bowl. I definitely recommend getting the super wide noodles, I think the chewiness is absolutely perfect. X Noodles & Dumplings is located on the corner of the block involving plenty of other walkable places to eat. It's a welcome addition to the area since there aren't many good Chinese places in the vicinity. When we entered we were immediately greeted. The chefs in the back are constantly working and creating fresh noodles, true to their namesake. While we were eating the staff regularly checked in to see if we needed anything, and after our order was placed the food arrived in about 10 minutes which was appreciated during lunch time. The decor is pretty cute, definitely a nice place to get a casual lunch. The food itself was not bad. The Mapo Tofu was so-so, and the Chicken in Spicy Sauce was not bad. The standout dish for certain was the Spicy Flat Noodles which you can order with either Beef or Chicken. Lanzhou style soups and Flat Noodles are hard to find in the Portland area, so I'd recommend giving them a try if you've never had it. read more

Spicy beef noodle soup: This was the one dish that I particularly liked and would order again. The broth is a nice blend of meaty, spicy, warm and comforting. I got the thickest noodles (well it's actually one huge noodle that you cut with scissors) and they had a really fun texture. I felt like it could have used another dimension to it -- maybe acid or something -- but it was nice. Xiao long bao: These are the soup dumplings where the broth is inside the dumpling. My first one was disappointing. I asked the waitress how long she'd recommend waiting before eating it and she recommended right away since they're best hot. It was way too hot though; I almost burned my tongue and had to spit it back out. My second one was alright but I thought it could have used more soup and better flavor. Soup dumplings: These are dumplings that are served in soup. So here the soup is _outside_ of the dumpling. Anyway, I was even less impressed by the flavor here. The broth seemed pretty watery and bland and the dumpling not very meaty or satisfying. Dan dan noodles: They were ok. I thought they were too creamy. I didn't get much of that hot and numbing "mala" flavor from the sichuan peppercorns which was disappointing. Not enough tang from the vinegar or nuttiness from the sesame paste either. The flavors were just kinda muted. Orange chicken (stirred noodle): This was really bad IMO. It was so sweet that I couldn't even finish it. I didn't really notice much in terms of tang from the orange or vinegar or savoriness from the soy sauce. The chicken had a decent outer crisp but the inside was on the dry side. The noodles were good though. I got medium thickness and they had the right about of chew/bite to them, as did the noodles in all the other dishes. read more

Came on a Friday around 5 and we were able to be seated right away! It did get busier and there was a wait by the time we left. All the noodles are pulled in house and I loved that there were 6 different types to choose from. However, the dumplings are not made in house and are premade. We wanted fresh made items so we ordered the shrimp and pork XLB and siu mai. The spicy beef flat noodle pot was quite good, decently spicy and good flavor. Definitely a must order if you can handle a little spice! Lanzhou noodle had good broth and flavor. The shrimp and pork siu mai was also quite good. This place was bustling on a Saturday night and we were on the waitlist for a party of three for about 30 minutes. However it was well worth the wait, the noodles were delicious and definitely different from what is typical, one continuous long flat spicy noodle that you need to cut in order to eat bite size pieces. This dish was definitely the highlight of the meal because it was spicy and flavorful. I did not personally try the Dan Dan noodles but from my friends satisfied expression I think I can safely say they were delicious as well. The 6 dumpling soup was different and unfortunately it was probably the most bland of the dishes we had, however not pictured is the pork/shrimp soup dumplings which were an explosion of flavor. The dining experience was great, and the prices were very reasonable I believe for the four dishes we got it only came to around 48$ before tip and the portion sizes were just right, overall I would love to visit this place again and enjoy more of their cuisine. read more

Delicious and definitely worth the wait! The food tasted extremely authentic and I love that we finally have a hand-cut noodle spot in Downtown Portland. We ordered the smashed cucumber salad, spicy beef noodles, and the tomato beef noodle soup. Love that you can choose the width and cut of your noodles (I always go for the extra wide). The texture of the noodles was also just right--not that doughy and just the right amount of chewy. Loved how rich and flavorful the broth of the tomato soup was too. The spices in the spicy beef noodles was also perfectly done and instantly transported me back to northern China. Service was extremely attentive despite the busy hustle and bustle of the restaurant. The ambience was very conducive to catching up with friends and I love the way the space was decorated and how you can also see the chefs hand making the noodles. X Noodles and Dumplings has the potential to be the go to noodle and dumpling restaurant of Portland. I did not rate this restaurant a 5 because I have had slightly better pulled noodles/dumplings in other areas and experiences that were more memorable. I really enjoyed this restaurant and would go back. As a group we had over 10 dishes. All of them were great. The texture of the noodles was perfect - not too chewy and not too soft. I also enjoyed the option of choosing your noodle shape with each noodle dish. I was pleasantly surprised at the range of the menu and the quality that each dish maintained. From noodle to dumplings to soup to rice and meat dishes, this restaurant has everything you could want in an Asian restaurant. As far as the food went, my group especially enjoyed the General Tso's chicken and even ordered a second serving. My personal favorites were the pork wonton with chili sauce and the braised beef soup noodle. The wonton had an aromatic sauce that was spicy and tangy. The beef in the soup was tender while the broth was robust and flavorful. To add to the experience, the service was 5/5. Our waiter was very patient despite the indecisiveness of our group. The staff was visibly busy and had to hustle to give everyone a great experience. Even with the business booming our waiter made us feel like we were the only people in the room. What could get this restaurant to a 5? - Create an experience - I would love to see someone making the hand pulled noodles. - Ambiance - there needs to be some type of sound proofing. Very nice to have another legit hand pulled noodle option in the area. The spicy beef flat noodles were delicious and perfectly fresh and chewy. Though admittedly a bit too spicy for us such that we couldn't finish it. Saw some other tables struggling as well. Upshot is that our waiter mentioned you can actually ask to adjust for less spicy so we will have to try that next time. The Dan Dan noodle sauce is a bit different from what you'd find for Dan Dan noodles in Pdx. Sauce is the more traditional nutty kind but was a tad too nutty/creamy for us but the noodles themselves were again very fresh and tasty. Will have to try a different sauce combo next time. This might be the best new noodle spot in Portland. Everything we ate was top tier! We started with the egg yolk buns (had to order the little piggies), which were unexpectedly sweet. It's more of a custard inside than just egg yolks. They were interesting! The bbq pork bao totally stole the show. Paired with some chili oil, they were killer. We also got the spicy beef flat noodles and chicken fried rice, both of which were amazing. There are a ton of noodle dishes where you can customize your noodle size! I ordered their signature Lanzhou beef noodle soup and it definitely hit the spot. The noodles were nice and chewy, and the portions were very generous, honestly maybe a little too noodle-heavy for my preference, but still very satisfying. The broth was the real standout though: rich, aromatic, and packed with deep beefy flavor that made the whole bowl comforting and filling. One thing I really like is that you can choose your noodle shape and size, which adds a fun customizable element depending on what texture you prefer. The space itself is modern and beautifully designed, making it a nice place to sit down for a casual meal. Service was friendly, though we did find ourselves waiting quite a while for our soups despite the restaurant being fairly empty on a weekday. Since they're still relatively new, I imagine the timing will improve as they settle in.
