High-Quality Comfort Food & Top-Notch Service~ I recently visited Dinah's for the very first time to meet up with my cousin, two aunts, and her new baby. This location was the perfect halfway point for all of us. We arrived bright and early around 9:30 AM on a Wednesday. I had called ahead to reserve a booth, my absolute favorite kind of seating. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and immediately seated. Our server (I unfortunately forgot his name!) was fantastic. He brought out fresh coffee right away, took our breakfast orders, and was extremely kind, polite, and attentive throughout our entire meal. The menu has plenty of options, ranging from scratch-made omelettes and burritos to salads and a dedicated kids' menu. The Breakfast Plate Specials ($12-$14) Both my cousin and aunts ordered this. It came loaded with pancakes, hashbrowns, sausage, and toast--an absolute steal for the price~ Turkey Club Sandwich & Fries: I was in the mood for lunch, so I opted for the club. The fries were hot and perfectly crispy. The sandwich itself was wonderful, packed with turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. My only tiny critique is that I wish it came with mayo (I'm a huge mayo fan!). However, I ordered a side of ranch which paired perfectly and really elevated the sandwich. The vibe here is incredibly laid-back, welcoming, and brightly lit. Everything--including the restrooms--was sparkling clean. They had TVs playing a local soccer game and a nice bar area where it looks like they serve up a great selection of beer and wine for happy hour. I didn't grab an alcoholic drink this time, but I already have my eye on a cranberry mimosa for my next visit! Before you leave, make sure to check out the front counter--they have a massive display of freshly baked cookies, pies, and other goodies~ For the price, the food is absolutely worth it and the service is top-notch. She offered to remake the order for me, I let her know I would be open to trying something different. I was offered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was fresh and well seasoned. The staff is excellent at greeting you and making sure that you know that you are their top priority. The ambiance is casual with all the comforts of home but the service of a high end establishment. I ordered at the French Toast with sausage patties and eggs over easy. The meal was a solid A+ with my lemonade drink bringing in another perfect score. I decided to take a nibble from my cousins plate and her Eggs Benedict were done to perfection! We were checked on several times throughout the meal to see if we needed any extra refills or sides and the attention was appreciated. Our coffee was always hot, the lemonade stayed cold, and our bellies were full. A quick glance around the restaurant showed a good mix of families, regulars, and quite a few tourists. The location sits on a large lot with plenty of parking available for both standard and handicapped patrons. The music was at a comfortable low level. The establishment has several available entrances that do not require stairs or an elevator, making it very handicapped accessible. The carrots had no glaze or seasoning so that was disappointing and the bacon was very salty. Otherwise all of the food was good. Had never been to Dinah's when it was still at its now closed location but wanted to support them in their "new" location since I love diner type food and settings. I ended up getting the chicken plate with dark meat and a side of fries and corn. The chicken was crispy and reminded me of a typical diner fried chicken, a perfect comfort food for a hard day. I won't lie, the chicken could have been a little hotter but it was still delicious! Our server was also very attentive and gave us great service throughout our visit. The interior was a nice, cozy set-up that definitely made me feel like I was in a "comfort kitchen"- so along with comfort food, I just felt comfortable all together. We did go in a less busy time, so I'm not sure how it would be if it's super busy but we had really no complaints! One thing I will mention, while we knew where the entrance was since we go to this little shopping center often and live in the area, it might be good to have some more lights or signs showing the spot is open or where to go. The great: The outdoor terrace was super shaded, and comfortable. It was nice to be able to sit outside. The customer service was also really awesome. We were checked on, our coffees were refilled, and I was given the cutest to go coffee. The good: Food when it came out was delicious as always. We mostly got chicken and waffles and got to choose from white, dark, or combo meat. The OK: Our food came out at different times. First one of our party got waffles, then chicken only came out for those of us who ordered chicken and waffles, and the waffles didn't join in till later. I don't know about yall, but I like to eat mine simultaneously. Over all it was a lovely breakfast, and I def recommend it for the LA peeps. We love Dinah's and we've been going there for years. This was our first time at the new location and everyone made us feel so welcome and thanked us for coming. The service is outstanding and the ambience is old-school diner with a little bit of an update. Food was very good. We had the chicken and waffles and it was delicious. Hadn't been to Dinah's in years. Didn't know this location existed. And when a friend suggested Dinah's - I told her it's shut down as I drive by the "old" location off Sepulveda every so often. She gave direction and I was on my way. It's in a plaza that offers parking, but can be tough at times. I've never had an issue but I know people who have. It's free though and if needed, you can park on the street. Off Washington, it's metered. Off the side street behind the plaza, no meters but there may be permit restrictions. Read the signs. I haven't needed to park there so ... Walked in, immediately greeted and was ushered to the table where my friend was waiting. Service was great - attentive, friendly, personable and funny. Really liked him - but as usual, I don't remember his name. Felt like a burger - wasn't feeling chicken. See pics. It wasn't bad, but also not mind blowing. My husband got a breakfast plate, biscuits and gravy plate, he asked for bacon and got sausage instead. He didn't like the biscuits at all and he said the gravy was okay but that is the one thing he barely ate lol. He didn't like the pancakes, eggs, and sausage. With the weather in Culver City always pleasant I imagine that seating is popular. We opted to eat inside anyway. I was tempted to try their chicken and pancakes but finally decided on my old standby, Corned Beef Hash & Eggs. Turned out I could get it with pancakes instead of hash browns, so I still got syrup with my food. My hash was good, not great, the 3 pancakes large. I was satisfied with my food, service was excellent, and the wall with mismatched boards was a good look. No trouble parking for our early arrival. The pieces are small. There is not one thing I can say good about it. The rolls, which used to be a high point were hard as little rocks and had no flavor. The mashed potatoes were watery. The baked pancake looked good but honestly, I'd probably avoid getting it and saving your 19-22 dollars on it. I had the biscuits and gravy and it felt like there wasn't any effort put into the dish. My cousin had the regular chicken and waffles and the waffle was amazing, but the chicken seemed to be a little undercooked on the inside. Our waiter was absolutely incredible though! It was sad when Dinah was closing at their original location, not knowing they were opening a new one or not. Well, here's their new location with beautiful decor . I love their big open patio space. Perfect for event (may ask the owner if they are open to host a social mahjong night there, Marlene /Jazmine if you're reading this) Walked in and love the high ceilings, warm lights and big tables. My friend and I sat there and had great time catching up in their comfy booth. Ok food wise. One reason we ended up eating there instead of ramen next door was we saw their chicken and waffle poster. I ordered the chicken and French toast plate. It was big portion because it also came with 3 eggs. The friend chicken was a bit disappointing to me because I was expecting really crunchy chicken, but it just wasn't that. The staff is very attentive and professional. The food has always been very good, and we are happy with everything we order. My first experience at the new place. Ordered the fried chicken dinner. The chicken was excellent, all pieces were juicy although the wing less so. The green beans we commercial grade but fine. Coconut cream pie was great. The new digs don't look like a 50's diner but more contemporary which is fine with me. The service was prompt. It closes at 9PM and I asked when were the last orders taken....I was told about 8:45. I land at LAX often and drive north and this will be a regular in the dinner rotation. They have a decent amount chairs and tables inside and in their covered patio. Service: For the most part, service was okay. Erica was friendly and informational about the shop. Food came out at a decent time. The only thing that have a gripe about is that our bread/banana bread was forgotten. We got them towards the end after asking about them. Food Of Choice: 1) Comfort Chicken Dinner: If you want a big bang for your buck, this item fits the bill. For $25.95, you get three pieces of chicken, house salad or the soup of the day (chicken gumbo on Saturdays) , 2 sides (mash potatoes and rice was chosen), dinner roll and banana bread, and a drink. Meal was hearty and delicious. The chicken tasted the same as the old location and the soup of the day was quite tasty. 2) 1/2 sandwich and soup of the day/house salad ($14.95): Decided on turkey sandwich and house salad. Sandwich was okay. It just had turkey, tomato, mayo, and lettuce. The side order of the house salad was good. 3) Chocolate Cream Pie: Quite solid, but not as good as Sherman's Deli in Palm Springs. Today I had the pleasure of eating at Dinah's Comfort Kitchen. It has a very homey atmosphere with TV's on every wall! The service was amazing, and fast. If you haven't tried a "German Pancake" you are missing out! It's a must try! The cinnamon honey glazed chicken and waffles are a must try as well, and don't let me miss raving about their freshly squeezed orange juice. This is a great neighborhood gem. Dinah's was a staple in Culver City. I worked right across the street from their location on Sepulveda and Centinela but never tried them and then they were closed. I thought I had missed out until today. While driving down Sepulveda I saw they were reopened in a new location on Sepulveda near Venice Blvd. The restaurant looks really nice especially those resin floors. Dinah's has a new look and they keep everything really clean including the restrooms. Although they have a new location they have the same kitchen and serving staff. Customer service was excellent! Everyone we encountered was friendly, knowledgeable about Dinah's history and just really nice people! I ordered the fried chicken plate. It came with a roll, banana bread, 3 pieces of fried chicken and two sides. My sides were creamed spinach with bacon and the french fries. The fries were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside cooked perfectly. The creamed spinach had a good flavor but it was too, too creamy. I will pass on the roll and banana bread. I didn't like either of them and I am a bread lover. The chicken was a little greasy and bland. The chicken tasted like they didn't put any seasoning on it and it was not crunchy at all. Some people like it that way. I wish they had a well two options for the chicken like regular or spicy. My hubby ordered the burger and fries. He said portion sizes are large, food is average. 50 years ago my aunt took my sister and I to Dinah's when it was in Inglewood. Today, I took my youngest son to their new location in Culver City and it did not disappoint. We ordered all of my favorites so he could taste a little of my childhood. We had the German Apple Pancake, the Dutch pancake, and the senior fried chicken meal with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes with gravy. Although the ambiance is newer with an apparent emphasis on a bar, but the food is delicious as ever. The service was fantastic and the food was just as I remembered it. The creamed spinach was divine and the dinner salad was crisp and delicious. There were not many people there on a Monday night. The staff was very attentive and gave me an extra chicken thigh while I waited for them to make more drumsticks. That was very nice of them. So, if you're a fan of the old Dinah's at the corner of Centinela and Sepulveda, give their new location a try. This was quite possibly the worst thing I've eaten in three years. I ordered the fish and chips and they came out quick, which I thought at the time was great. Three nuggets of bread shell that cracked and disgorged mushy whitefish. Why was it mushy? Had it just come from the freezer? Was it off? Why was the breading not seasoned? Why were the fries stale and also unseasoned? Why was the banana bread the lacrox of banana bread and also stale? There's so much good food in LA. There's so much good food near this restaurant. But, and I will die on this hill, the chicken is pretty bad. It's flavorless. It's cooked well - juicy etc but if you want fried chicken it's beyond disappointing. I don't think I have ever had anything but their chicken so I was going to see if they do anything else really well but No. People are struggling in general. The service was great, friendly a d attentive staff made the experience even better. My complaint is the price. We ordered 3 of chicken and waffles and for $21 a plate, the portion of the chicken was on the small side for the price. Everything tasted great but the value didn't quite match the price point. The onion rings and curly fries were tasty! I have gone to their old location in Westchester and now at Culver City, this new restaurant is really nice, inviting and modern. Clean and new!
