A classic Diner with a classy interior, the usual extensive menu and fast, friendly service. Our party of three had brunch but with two of them being vegan, they were thrilled to see avocado toast w black beans on the breakfast menu and delighted further when it came with the small green side salad Pop's pancakes (two large ones) came with two eggs and strips of bacon and made extremely happy. And full There's no shortage of chain restaurants within a half-mile but THIS is where I'll return next time I'm in town. PS: it's always a good sign when you see the owner answer Yelp reviews. The 248 diner was on the way to my home after I was done shopping for the day. The food was horrible and they messed up my order very badly. When I asked about their mistakes on my order they responded negatively and would not redo it, even though I was allergic to an ingredient I specifically told them not to put on. We have been here for both breakast and dinner. During the breakfast hour, we enjoyed the stuffed french toast it was truly mouthwatering. For the dinners we had chicken with the cranberry chutney, broccoli and rice and a stuffed flounder. Both dinner entrees were cooked perfectly and the steamed broccoli was so good. We were visiting friends in the area and they are new to the area as well. A co worker of my friend always raves about this place so we gave it a try. It was amazing. Didnt get any food pic because we were starving but i had a ham and cheese omelette and it was perfect. Hash browns were delicious too. Service was superb. Wait time was less than expected and we were there on a Sunday morning where they had many large groups. We were seated in 13 minutes--amazing. From the hostess to the wait staff Tyler and Wyatt to the cleanup folks, their pleasant nature was truly authentic. Their food was flawless and a clear step up from diner breakfast food. You can tell a great diner by their coffee, pancakes, grits and home fries. They delivered all of these at a 5 star level. The ambiance was great as well. The place was packed and yet not noisy. This my first time at this diner. It was around 10 in the morning so I decided to have breakfast. I started off with a Bloody Mary which was very well seasoned and tasted great! Obviously not the first one the bartender ever made. My service was quick, my server was very nice and attentive, every thing was clean and my meal was very good! This place is conveniently located within it's town with plenty of parking and a lot of options for food choices. A group of us decided to go here after attending a get together the night before. It was about 13 of us that met for breakfast the next morning. The wait wasn't too long considering they were busy. After about 20 minutes we were all seated and helped by Charles shortly after. It was brunch time, but most purchased breakfast items. I personally got breakfast potatoes and a side of bacon. The breakfast potatoes weren't great but I was able to eat at least half of them. They weren't too flavorful at all end tasted kind of old. My husband on the other end got a meal with flapjacks, eggs & bacon (Pop Pop's Pancakes). My niece who sat directly next to me got chicken tenders and fries that looked magnificent and she liked them. I think in the future I would return back to get lunch or dinner food. Breakfast didn't win it for me. Although my personal experience wasn't the best, I do recommend for many others to try as they are very popular and most of our party was very pleased with the food. read more

In fairness to Diner 248, my nerves were frazzled by the time we pulled into the parking lot. My old friend, who...if you've read some of my previous reviews...has been having more than his share of serious personal issues with loved ones, has lately been able to discern some indication of the proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel," and his attention is more firmly focused back on himself...and only himself...than it has been. My friend is a decent guy with a good heart (even if he's a reactionary looking to FoxNews for his political talking points; in the interests of our long friendship, we don't talk politics), but he's also a narcissist bordering on sociopathy, and often I'm the backdrop for his meandering monologues about...what else?...himself. If I'm in the right mood...fine. I wasn't in the best mood on this particular day; I hadn't slept well, I had a headache, and I'm not without personal issues of my own that I could dwell upon if I wanted to depress myself even more than my usually bleak mood warrants (Oh oh...Don Corleone just rose up from the back of my warped psyche, yelling, "Start acting like a man! And can you get back to the fotutto review! Think your friend is long winded?!! Fungool!!" Sorry, Don Corleone. Sorry, Yelp...). He wanted to visit an Easton antique place that had (supposedly) old Ramones records. Although I'm becoming increasingly comfortable with at least parts of PA, it's still pretty much alien territory for me (although I was a semi-regular visitor to Quadrant Books up the street in the past, used to date a young woman in West Philly, have a sister who went to Lehigh, actually have a deep affection for the Brandywine Valley, really enjoyed Knoebels in central PA recently...) Y'know, maybe I'm projecting when I refer to my friend as a narcissist. Maybe I'm the narcissist-- hopefully not bordering on sociopathy; here I am babbling on about myself yet again instead of reviewing the restaurant in question. Oh, oh...I sense Don Corleone emerging back up from the depths of my gangster obsessed psyche! Let me try and get back to the actual review before he slaps me like he did Johnny Fontane.... The inside of the antique place wasn't air conditioned, and I was beginning to feel faint as I wandered about looking at old clocks and paintings while my friend engaged the proprietor in a discussion about the Ramones, CBGBs, old records, etc. Finally, at long last, he wrapped it up and we emerged into the fresh air. He wanted to find someplace to eat. I wasn't at all hungry but fasting wasn't going to help me feel any better, so I responded, "Sure. Whatever." He checked Yelp, liked what he read about Diner 248, and we drove to it down unfamiliar roads and highways, with his phone/GPS tucked into his crotch, sometimes looking at the road, sometimes staring down into his crotch as he drove and navigated our way. Not surprisingly, I was white knuckled and trembling by the time we pulled into the parking lot of Diner 248, which did not look at all like a diner to me. The inside was initially confusing, as there seemed to be 3 different "greeting" stations, with a variety of personnel. I went up to 1, my friend went up to another, and the 3rd one led us to a table by the bar. Nice looking place, but my initial impression wasn't positive. The diners I'm used to serve breakfast 24 x 7. Diner 248 doesn't. I'll usually order breakfast or burgers at any diner I go to. Breakfast wasn't an option, and I'm all burgered out at this point. Instead, I ordered the chicken and vegetable soup in a bowl, and a Rueben sandwich with fries. My friend ordered pierogies from the appetizer list, as well as a main course which I can't remember now. I was tempted by the pierogies, but I suspected they were going to have a hard as opposed to a soft casing, and they were potato pierogies instead of cheese (my favorite). When the pierogies arrived, hard cased, with butter and onions (along with a side of sour cream), I tried one and...surprisingly...they were delicious. My soup was a sizable portion and very good. The Rueben and fries were very satisfactory. I'm dieting (I saw a picture of myself recently and said, "Holy shite...Who is that old, fat man in the picture!?!" I can't do anything about the old, but I can make an attempt when it comes to fat), but it was my "cheat day," and I was looking forward to dessert. Our server was friendly, efficient, but as I was perusing the dessert menu, she brought over our bill. My initial thought was, "Is she saying to herself the last thing these 2 guys need is dessert?" or did she just overlook asking? I'm sure it was the latter, but on 2nd thought, decided that not ordering dessert was probably a good idea. Overall, Diner 248 is a good choice (if you want breakfast, come before 2pm). If I'm in the area again, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to eat here. Hopefully, it will be on one of my "cheat days" and I can try the dessert. And partake of the pierogies. read more
