Definitely reminds me of Din Tai Fung. I'm not sure if this is the same restaurant and this is the Canadian version but it's very similar. The beef scallion wrapped pancake, the pan fried XLB, the string beans, and the cucumbers were worth getting. The pork in the hot and sour wontons tasted like it was old and it had a strong pork smell. The pan friend buns were soft and the filling was good but it wasn't the best version I've had. Completely skip the pork scallion pancake. We didn't finish it and I wouldn't order it again. On a side note, the bathrooms are a weird setup. There are two stalls but if the main bathroom door is open, it's almost impossible to get to one of the stalls. read more

I was pretty disappointed in this place, especially since it has such high ratings. I only tried the pork xiao long bao so I can't speak for the other menu items. The broth wasn't flavorful, the filling was okay, and the skin was too thick. Overall, the soup dumpling was very average, and it also didn't come out hot. If you want to get a seat pretty quickly without waiting too long, I recommend going when it opens at 11am! read more

Fantastic! We visited twice. Once during the later part of the lunch hours and once right when they opened for dinner. Both times we were seated quickly. We had to make some tough choices because there were so many good things to order, this is the reason to visit twice. The XLBao are great. Piping hot, a little time to cool down, put into a soup spoon, carefully sip the hot "juice" then eat the thin wrapping and deliciousness. The XL Bao are as good as I have had anywhere including in Shanghai by the corners bridge and the TDFung chain. We had HS soup and several side dishes (cucumber and fried Tofu) they were all very good. Dinesty DH is a must when ever visiting the area! Can't wait to return and try some other dishes! read more

We can always count on the Chinese restaurants to be open pretty must 365 days a year and Dinesty was no exception. Thank God. We were so excited to try this place for the XLB. Those were perfect. We ordered a number of other dishes. Pass on the nein cao. The spicy white fish was so so good. The clams were great and the string beans were good too. Pass on the mapo tofu (didn't snap a pic) because it has that Chinese spice that numbs your mouth. I don't like that taste. I also thought the food in general was a little on the sweet side. We came 30 minutes before it closed and wanted to try it aince it's similar to Din Tai Fung back home. We ordered the Xiao Long Bao, Pork rice cakes, and hot and sour soup. I fell all the dishes was okay not great. The Xiao long bao (steamed pork dumpling) is much better at Din Tai Fung. The dumpling skin is thick and the pork was very chewy inside. The rice cake us actually the best dish out of the 3 we got. The hot and sour soup, I did not like the flavor of it. They notified us that the chicken soup would take around 20 mins to make, but it came out pretty fast at around 15 mins. Wow the dumplings here are sooooo delicious! We tried the pan fried dumplings and kimchi pork dumplings and also a Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The dumplings are juicy and delicious. The beef noodles have such tender beef that just melts in your mouth. It was a very authentic bowl of Taiwanese beef noodle. It was snowing and we were cold, so what would be better-fitting for the occasion over XLB/soup dumplings?! There wasn't a wait when we came, so we were seated immediately with hot tea waiting on the table. Looking at the menu can be kind of overwhelming, there's just so much different kinds of Chinese food that you can order. We went with two orders of XLB, one was pork and the other was crab + pork. Definitely go with the crab + pork meat one! The crab adds a depth of flavor that the 100% pork ones were lacking. Broth in the dumplings was super flavorful and were at a perfect temperature, which is so important when you're eating XLBs so you don't burn your mouth! Because it was so good, we ended up ordering another portion of the crab + pork! We also ordered fried Shanghai noodles, which looks like hand-pulled noodles covered in delicious sauce, veggies, and your choice in pork or chicken. When we tried it, the sauce was more bland than expected. We had to add a lot of chili oil + soy sauce to give it some life. A little disappointed, but the dumplings saved them. After we went in, we noticed it was the right level of busy; most of the tables were taken but there was one or two open so we didn't even need to wait. I saw Dinesty as one of the places to check out when we were in Vancouver, and I'm so happy we did! They were one of the only places still allowing dine-in during the COVID-19 pandemic. We got there at 8:25 and the worker politely told us that they would be doing last call at 8:35 and the restaurant closes at 9pm. We decided to just do takeout because of the time constraint, and the workers were very patient as we decided what we wanted. They allowed us to stay seated while we waited for our order, and continued to refill our teas. All the food was delicious, even after the 30 minute walk home. Since I am a pescatarian, I was vicariously eating the amazing-looking soup dumplings through my friend who enjoyed every single one. Hard a hankering for some dumplings and luckily we were in the neighborhood and stumbled upon this gem. Doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is nice, the service is snappy and food was great. Had pork,shrimp & scallop dumplings (incredible) followed by a traditional Chinese scallion pancake (fun) then an order of bay scallops & asparagus which was super fresh (delicious) and some chicken with noodles (ok). I USED to really love Dinesty. It USED to be such a great spot for DELICIOUS food at a great price! That was 5 years ago. I've gone back quite a few times over the years, remembering how good the food was... but every time I've come back it's been increasingly worse. First the prices were raised. Alright no problem, food was still great, still worth it! Next the food quality started suffering. That was hugely disappointing. While it wasn't bad, it was now about the same as any other downtown dim sum place. The last time I went, not only did their food quality get even WORSE, the service is was one of the worst I've experienced! Dinesty now? The place hasn't been upkept for years - menus and furniture are old and dirty. Staff is rude, uncommunicative, and seemed to just want to get us out as fast as possible. Food is way mediocre to below average - I didn't mind waiting 20 minutes for certain dishes to be prepared when they were delicious, but it is SO not worth the wait now. It's really disappointing for me to witness the gradual decline of what used to be such a great place. Every time I'd come back and it was a bit worse I gave them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was just a bad day or that they would eventually get better again. But it's pretty clear now that it's not going to get better. The owners obviously don't care anymore. They're just riding off old reputation and people's nostalgia and milking it for all it's worth. As much as I'm sad to say this, I highly recommend NOT going to Dinesty. There are much better options. read more

Oof the xiao long bao slapssss. This place is like Din Tai Fung but a little cheaper and better quality. I tried the xo sauce and shrimp, scallop, and pork soup dumplings, and they were both delicious. The wrappers were thin, but they still held together and did not stick to the paper in the bamboo steamer. The broth was very flavorful, and there was a good amount of filling inside. I also ordered the pan fried pork buns, which were really good with the outer crunch on the bun and the juiciness of the pork inside. The beef noodle soup was also flavorful. They gave a good amount of tender beef, and the noodles were cooked with the perfect texture. I liked the addition of the pickled mustard to add more of the authentic flavor. Famed dumpling purveyor Din Tai Fung may not have made it to Canada yet, but Vancouver's got their own local version in Dinesty Dumpling House. Like Din Tai Fung, Dinesty even has a glassed-in kitchen at the front of the restaurant so you can watch dumplings being made while you wait (there will be a wait). To be honest, I wasn't sure if the comparison was apt when I saw the outside of Dinesty, cringing at the rather drab-looking exterior that looked more fitting with a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the interior was far more upscale than what the storefront would suggest. The menu at Dinesty is fairly extensive with a full range of appetizers, noodles, fried rice, dumplings and entrees. They were out of appetizers and some of the noodles the day we visited, which made selecting our dishes a little easier. The Shanghai Fried Noodles were a greasy belly bomb (the way my daughter likes them). Unfortunately, they were out of the housemade noodles for the Seafood Fried Noodles, and they subbed in a flat noodle which was nothing special. There was a lot of seafood in the noodles though, which made me feel slightly better. Dinesty is famed for their xiao long bao, soup dumplings. While their dumplings are not quite as delicate as Din Tai Fung's, they are just as good. Unlike DTF, they don't have a small battalion of workers assembling dumplings non-stop, and we had to wait FOREVER to get our fish dumplings. Luckily, they were worth the wait. Din Tai Fung, you can skip Canada on your quest for world domination. They already have their own homegrown version and don't need you. Plus, you'll probably just be labeled as a Dinesty wannabe. read more

We arrived shortly before opening (totally non- intentional), but a small line was already starting to form at the door. Once seated, service is incredibly efficient. They don't waste time here, and once you order, your food starts coming out within 5 minutes. The food prep area is visible from inside the restaurant, and you can see the dumplings being made. We had the steamed pork dumplings (nice skin - not too thick, but not too thin where its easily broken and the soup can leak out), steamed kimchi dumplings (surprisingly good, not very spicy; had a bit of a kick to it), and beef noodle soup (good portion size, not too spicy). We finished our meal in under an hour and left feeling very full. Lost a star because I see they have a dumpling stamp card which I had no idea about. Yes, Dinesty is ridiculously excellent at making the soup dumplings. And yes, soup dumplings are among my top favourite single dishes on Earth. But there is so much more on this menu worth flourishing adoration. Atmosphere and service are always inspirational at any of their locations. It has a unique and welcoming family gathers to eat a ton of food vibe that is nearly unmatched. On a busy day, you can gorge and be gone in less than 30 minutes. Recommends: Namely, anything soup dumpling or steamed is going to be delicious. However, the standard Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings are near biblical levels of life-altering. Perfect for chilly afternoons, date nights, or pretty much any moment that begins with right, and ends in now. Aside from the tower of Pork Soup Dumplings we devour with every visit, other notable musts include the Shaomai, onion pancakes, and pot stickers. One "extra" item that is renowned in my home is the Pan Fried Marinated Beef Wraps. Up there with the soup dumplings, and often argue for one of the best beef Wraps in all of the Lower Mainland (though peaceful restaurant usually wins that fight).
