Came here after several years because MIL wanted to have Shanghai food. The service was ok but the restaurant is small and cramped. Could use a renovation . We ordered quite a few dishes. The XLB were the same as before. Not the best but acceptable. The pan fried bun wasn't great. Too much bread. The potstickers were average tasting with little color. Have had better. The pan fried rice cakes was the best dish. Could have used some spinach for some color but they used cabbage. The green onion pancake was ok and expensive . I'm not even exaggerating when I say that this is some of the best Shanghai style food I've had outside of Shanghai. Canadians living here are blessed because we don't have Chinese food this good in California. The XLB (soup dumplings) were immaculate. Skin was thin but not fragile. The meat was cooked well and had great flavor. They managed to capture sooo much soup inside too. We also ordered amazing shen jian bao (pan fried dumplings), some type of shumai but instead of meat it's lo mai gai style rice inside, and a beef roll which had THE perfect crisp on the outside. The menu is small but everything is really delicious and the chef is super fast in making the items. Wang's is a classic in the area, of course. The food is on par with notable restaurants like Dinesty, albeit with a smaller menu, smaller space, and cheaper prices. I think the XLB here is at best a 4/5, but I've had it be better or worse depending on when I visit. What Wang's is really known for is the shengjianbao, or pan fried pork buns. They're pretty good, and I will admit there aren't many restaurants in Vancouver that serve them, let alone serve them well, but they're also a 4/5 at best. The buns have arrived slightly burnt before, and I've always felt the buns overpowered the filling due to the ratio. Eat with caution, as they're STEAMING hot. I've had many other items, which range from forgettable to delicious -- two standouts are the Shanghai style stir fried rice cakes and the wontons in chilli oil. All in all, I still come here rather often and have waited in long lines to get in. It's just maybe not living up to the hype some people have given it. read more

Arrived for lunch an hour after opening to a bit of a line up. It didn't take long to get seated, ordered, served and fed. A busy little spot that did not disappoint. We ordered pan fried as well as steamed soup dumplings. Yummy! We also had the pork & pickled veg noodle soup, the smokey flavour of which reminded me of my fave fried noodle dish. We came at around 11:15 AM and luckily, we did not have to wait. However, while we were eating, a long line quickly formed. The place does not have a lot of seating and is quite busy, but I like the atmosphere--it feels very authentic! We ordered the steamed pork buns and pan fried pork buns and they came out nice and hot! I was so surprised to see almost a spoonful of soup in each bun. The soup was very savory and the skin of the buns were perfect (thin skin for the steamed buns, and crispy skin for the pan fried buns). I found this hidden gem of a restaurant on one of my trips up to the Vancouver area and I make it a point to go each time now. The staff is always quick with taking orders and getting the food to you. The food is truly incredible and it's some of the best Shanghainese food I've ever had. (And I come from a heavily Chinese/Asian city!) I usually get the Xiao Long Bao, Shanghai Style Pan Fried Thick Noodles, and Beef Noodle Soup. Everything has so much flavor and tastes very fresh. You can even see them making all the dumplings in the back through one of the windows. It's a bit small inside and it's cash only, but there's an ATM in the drugstore next door which is super convenient. Especially if you're coming from out of town like I do. read more

Service is some of the fastest you'll ever get! And the food comes out hot and ready. We order a few dishes between three people and our faves from the list were the soup dumplings and the Shanghai noodles! The dumplings were the perfect size, tender and great ratio of meat to wonton. Sometimes I find the dough for soup dumplings is too thick but these were perfect. Honourable mention goes to the wontons in chili sauce as they were superb. The Dan Dan noodles were a touch too thick for me in terms of the broth and alittle more on the peanutty side than what I like. If you don't get to this joint early beware of the lineup! Filling was under seasoned and soup broth was average. It is interesting no reviewers mention about the run down looking restaurant with peeling paint and torn seat cushions. Seriously delicious Shanghai restaurant next to London Drugs. Don't be fooled by the dumpy looking exterior and interior. Parking is plentiful in the strip mall lot. The inside is pretty beaten up. Bright orange walls. The seating area is quite long and narrow, and is pretty much maxed out on tables. Definitely the authentic Asian experience, with everyone bumping into everyone else. The staff worked hard, cranking out basket after basket of xiaolongbao. Xiaolongbao - very tasty. Thin skins. Filled with that tasty soup. 6 in a basket. Shanghai style noodles - surprisingly mediocre. This is the only reason the place didn't get the coveted 5 stars from me. Decent but optional if you ask me. Deep fried pork buns - special mention. These things are piping hot, and are filled to the brim with soup. Literally. Be very very careful when eating these. I would recommend poking a hole first. My friend bit into his and the damn thing exploded in his face and splashed the rest of us with piping hot soup and oil too. He had to wash the burning off in the washroom, which is in an exterior building and requires a key. Served in plates of 5. The pricing is ridiculously cheap too. I have heard a lot of good things about this place from my Yelper friends. They are located in the same plaza as London Drugs. They are known fro their soup dumplings. Their skin were very thin but unfortunately they break very easily. The meat had a lot of taste. We also got the pan fried bun. That was tasty as well. My friend ordered dan dan noodle and I heard it was very disappointing. Not to mention the looks of it didn't look very appetizing. So I guess for this restaurant it is best to steak with the soup dumping, the pan fried buns and the pan friend dumplings. The restaurant is awfully small. Prices are reasonable. There are no restaurant inside the restaurant and you do need to get a key to use the washroom outside. The decor is a bit meh as well. Also don't expect too much service here. They take your order and drop the food off. Also they don't use reusable cup while dining it. Not sure why? but if you want water and they have already given you tea, they will charge you for the cup if they have to use an extra or give you an extra cup for water. I recommend you to finish your tea and then get the water. Parking maybe chaotic here depending on the time of day you show up. I recommend parking on the side street. Been meaning to try this place for ages since so many of my friends and my sisters friend have told us this is one of their favourite place. Came here around 11:30am today (Thursday). No wait, but still pretty packed. The XLB here is absolutely delicious. Loved the thin wrapping, juicy pork, and great soup. Their Dan Dan noodle texture was good. And taste was good too, but I do prefer my Dan Dan noodle with more kick to it. Their spicy wonton was also good, but once again, I like it spicier, but they do have some spicy sauce on the side you can add to it. :9 In terms of their green scallion pancakes, they were nice and crispy. But I do prefer the multilayered more Taiwanese style green scallion pancakes with lots of greens more. Regardless, food was quick and good. Servers were super nice. Will come again. And maybe try some of the other items on their menu. Cash only! Free parking inside the mini complex. P.s. they use paper cup and disposable chopsticks. Finally got a chance to try this place and it didn't disappoint! The seating capacity is tight with roughly around 12 small tables and while there's usually a consistent line outside the wait goes pretty fast as the servers are right on top of it. Getting orders out quick and to the table. The signature pan fried dumplings are a must and have a nice crispy bottom and are filled with soupy meaty goodness! Be sure to order the beef noodle soup which comes with tender, melt in your mouth beef and a beefy broth that's not overly salty. The XLBs come piping hot in a bamboo steamer and these to are filled with juicy pork and a soup inside. The price point was also very good too! Can't wait to go back for more. read more

This place delivers food incredibly fast and piping hot to your table.  The food was indeed pretty good, especially for the quality and price you're paying!  Our favourites are Xiao Long Bao (XLB), Pan-Fried Rice Cake with Salted Vegetables & Shredded Pork, and Boiled Dumplings.  They were tremendously impressive!  We enjoy adding their house-made chili sauce to everything.  It brings the food to a different layer with spicy.  We never get disappointed. Wang's is a little hole in the wall that I've been going to for years because their food is solid, and reasonably priced. We love their xiaolong bao (soup dumplings), pan fried bao, and the dandan noodles with extra chilli crisp oil from the table. The restaurant is so tiny and there is usually a line, and sometimes they're just closed/on vacation. Whenever we get to dine here we're always satisfied and leave happy customers. read more

The service was quick (like you order and the food comes out within 5 minutes kind of quick). 1. pan fried pork bun (shengjianbaos): I was expecting shengjianbaos that reminded me of those stalls in Chinatown of Singapore. I found this spot by watching YouTube vloggers Reeling in the beers. They were so into the food I had to come experience it for myself. They were right on the money, fantastic bang for your buck. We inhaled the XLB soup dumplings because they are the juiciest (would love some ginger on the side). The chicken curry had nice flavour but the texture was a tad clumpy. Another hit was the sesame rice balls, oh these were chewy and filled with black sesame paste. Not too sweet. Again only wish they used some ginger in the broth. Delicious and cheap. I'm a big fan of this place. It's a hole-in-the-wall Shanghai restaurant next to the London Drugs. You can see them constantly folding dumplings fresh in the back. Xiaolongbao ("steamed pork buns" on the menu) are 6 pieces for $7.25. They're juicy with thin wrappers. There are sauces on the table: vinegar, soy, chili oil. No ginger though, which goes well with vinegar for dipping XLB's. Green onion pancake is more fried than other places. I'd recommend the beef roll here instead. Other recommendations: Dan Dan noodles, pan-fried rice cake with shredded pork, and chili wontons. Washroom is weirdly located across the parking lot. Grab the key from the front counter. There isn't a ton of seating and it can get busy. Steamed dumplings are better fresh, but noodles and other dishes are just fine as takeout. It is cash only. This place never disappoints! My family and I have been coming back to Wang's time and time again to enjoy the beef noodle soup and xiao long bao. Today we tried the pan fried dumplings! I love the juicy meat inside with the satisfying bite of the dough. LOVE IT. I also love the "home-y" feel of Wang's. I love how it's not too fancy and is just straight up comfortable. 1 more thing, there's also something very comforting about seeing the staff members make the noodles in the window. I just love it! Its been years since Ive had XLB from Wangs and even though it was take out for me tonight, it was still some of the BEST in Vancouver. The skin was thin but not so much that it broke and there is a good amount of soup inside as well! The pork filling was flavourful, salty and a little bit fatty but thats what makes it so delicious. My family also loves their spicy wontons but its all about the xiao long bao for me ;) The people that work here are also really nice and friendly even though they're so busy. Came to pickup my to go order on Saturday. The food was ready when we got there. We ordered the steamed pork buns, pan fried pork buns and Dan Dan noodles. I always get their pan fried pork buns because they always have lots of juice inside. This time was no exception. The price of the pan fried pork buns was $7.25 which I think is reasonable for 5 buns. The outside was crispy. I found the bottom skin a little thicker than usual but still delicious. The pork felt a little dry but other than that pretty delicious. The steamed pork buns were mediocre. The skin is pretty thin but again the pork was dry and had less soup than the pan fried pork buns. Would definitely recommend the pan fried pork buns OVER the steamed pork buns. TIP: they automatically charge 0.25 cents for a paper bag via phone orders. So if you don't want that extra charge maybe let them know you'll bring your own bag? read more

After today, this is probably one of my top three Shanghainese restaurants in Vancouver! Let me jump into it. 1) steam pork bun - 6/5 when you tried steam pork bun at other restaurants, you will feel the "soup aka grease" coming out from the bun. However, this restaurant it was rich clear broth coming out from the bun! It was one of the best dishes we had. 2) pan fried pork bun - 5/5 both my wife and I loved it. 3) beef roll 4/5 - if you never tried it, I would recommend you try it. The restaurant control their seasoning well. They don't over power your pellet by adding lots of soy paste sauce. 4) wonton soup 3.5/5 - wonton was different. They add a lot of Shanghai bak Choi in the stuffing which was different and unique. But I find the soup was way too salty and too much msg. I was super thirsty after drinking the soup. 5) wonton in chili sauce 6/5 - my god it was amazing! The best one I had was in ding tai feng. The chili wasn't too overpowering. It is not spicy and made you want to have more. The service was quick and friendly. But one thing you need to be prepared for is you might wait outside for a long time before getting in. Hole in the wall joint right next to London drug. They make their own dumplings. I have always wanted to check it out. Finally had the chance. We were not disappointed, we're there 15 mins after they open. Boy! they are popular even on weekdays, cannot imagine what weekends look it, probably don't stand a chance! We ordered the pork dumplings, another dumplings with the peanut sauce. All the dumplings are good, love the wrappings. We actually went back the 2nd time to get their beef noodle soup, rice dishes & more dumplings. The place is small, come in when they are just open to ensure seating. Staff are friendly & helpful. Tried this place as an alternative to always going to Dynasty and am so glad we did. It's a pretty small place so don't expect to go with a big group. The smaller the group, the faster chance you have of earlier seating. Food: we tried the soup dumplings, pan fried noodles and chili wontons and they were all extremely flavorful and well priced. The soup dumplings were bursting with broth; literally the most broth in a dumpling I've ever had. All the dumplings were also really hearty and meaty. Service: quick and straight to the point! Come in, eat dumplings and bounce. They were friendly and the food came out super fast. The line: we came at 11:20 (they open at 11) and there was already a line of at least 5+ groups in front of us. Overhyped spot! The customer service was good and our waitress was funny. Very tight space, and cash only. We were told the thick noodles were a must-- but it was very bland and the texture was quite rough. The XLB's were decent-- not especially juicy or delicious. Overall, it's not a bad place. However, considering how popular it has been, I really expected a lot more from their place!! I would come back again just in case it was a one time miss, but other wise, it was a very mediocre place. read more
