    XLB soup dumplings
    Michelle T.

I'm not even exaggerating when I say that this is some of the best Shanghai style food I've had outside of Shanghai. Canadians living here are blessed because we don't have Chinese food this good in California. The XLB (soup dumplings) were immaculate. Skin was thin but not fragile. The meat was cooked well and had great flavor. They managed to capture sooo much soup inside too. We also ordered amazing shen jian bao (pan fried dumplings), some type of shumai but instead of meat it's lo mai gai style rice inside, and a beef roll which had THE perfect crisp on the outside. The menu is small but everything is really delicious and the chef is super fast in making the items. The interior has limited tables but because the chef and service is so quick, the turnover is actually quite fast. CASH ONLY! Make sure to bring some because this place is worth it.

this is a tiny hole in the wall type of neighbourhood noodles house. Service was super friendly and homey Their XLB have been my favorite but we tried the fried pork buns this time instead, which is great and juicy! We also had the pan fried pork chop noodles and wonton noodles. the texture if the noodles, the wonton as well as the pork chop were tasty and nicely made the downside is their broth, which we found quite bland.

Feels like a local mom and pop shop -- Great food , fast service, best dumplings in Vancouver

It's a nice simple noodle restaurant. Take note they are cash only The noodles were well made and the slice beef was soft and tasty.

3/5 pan fried pork bun, because we couldn't wait for a photo before digging in

Be warned cash only! But definitely worth the small inconvenience. The thick fried Shanghai style noodles are divine. Chewy and warm with chunks of meet and crisp cabbage to balance it all. The pan fried pork bun was also incredibly delicious. They were so juicy almost a lil soupy. We also had the chili wontons, and I would skip those and get more pan fried pork bu

Wang's is a classic in the area, of course. The food is on par with notable restaurants like Dinesty, albeit with a smaller menu, smaller space, and cheaper prices. I think the XLB here is at best a 4/5, but I've had it be better or worse depending on when I visit. What Wang's is really known for is the shengjianbao, or pan fried pork buns. They're pretty good, and I will admit there aren't many restaurants in Vancouver that serve them, let alone serve them well, but they're also a 4/5 at best. The buns have arrived slightly burnt before, and I've always felt the buns overpowered the filling due to the ratio. Eat with caution, as they're STEAMING hot. I've had many other items, which range from forgettable to delicious -- two standouts are the Shanghai style stir fried rice cakes and the wontons in chilli oil. All in all, I still come here rather often and have waited in long lines to get in. It's just maybe not living up to the hype some people have given it.

We were not very hungry. So we got only SLB and pan fried pork bun. I am kind of disappointed of the food quality this time. The buns were burnt and hard at the bottom. How ever the filling was still good and full of juice. for some reason, SLB was not good like before.

Arrived for lunch an hour after opening to a bit of a line up. It didn't take long to get seated, ordered, served and fed. A busy little spot that did not disappoint. We ordered pan fried as well as steamed soup dumplings. Yummy! We also had the pork & pickled veg noodle soup, the smokey flavour of which reminded me of my fave fried noodle dish. Food came in minutes. No wonder the line up moved quickly. Will definitely come back.

We came at around 11:15 AM and luckily, we did not have to wait. However, while we were eating, a long line quickly formed. The place does not have a lot of seating and is quite busy, but I like the atmosphere--it feels very authentic! We ordered the steamed pork buns and pan fried pork buns and they came out nice and hot! I was so surprised to see almost a spoonful of soup in each bun. The soup was very savory and the skin of the buns were perfect (thin skin for the steamed buns, and crispy skin for the pan fried buns). The price is also hard to beat--$7.95 for the steamed buns and $8.75 for the pan fried. I would definitely come back here to try the other items on their menu!

Legit xlb yall! After coming back from a full day of sightseeing in downtown we needed some good food to fill up our bellies. I tried placing my order via their app but it would not process my order. So I ended up calling it in. My guys went to pick it up and brought it back to the Airbnb. We devoured the food. Highlights: Xlb: legit, plenty of tasty soup in the dumplings, thin wrapping. Rice cake: yum! Pork noodle soup: hit the spot Wonton in chili oil: good. Beef noodle soup: good Yummmy! Ps it's cash only. Bring your CAN $$!

Beef roll, sticky rice dimsum, wonton soup .. all to die for!! But the best one for me was the beef roll hands down. They only accept cash and the inside is super tiny just fyi! Everything was really good - even their noodles were so yummy and flavorful. All of the food here tasted like homemade soul food. It isn't anything fancy but if you want to try food that tastes like your Chinese grandma made it then go here!!

Classic Shanghai dishes at an affordable price (Cash only!!!) Dishes ordered: 1) Soup dumplings (steamed pork buns aka XLB) 2) Shanghai style pan fried thick noodles 3) Pan fried pork buns A Vancouver hidden gem with really good xiao long bao (aka soup dumplings). The xiao long bao and the pan fried pork buns were tasty with soup inside. The xiao long bao especially were quite juicy and bursting with the soup. The Shanghai style pan fried thick noodles were a great portion for the price and seasoned well. Everything was hot, tasty, and it was super affordable. Service was quick too. Keep in mind the restaurant is cash only so be sure to bring some cash!

Service is some of the fastest you'll ever get! And the food comes out hot and ready. We order a few dishes between three people and our faves from the list were the soup dumplings and the Shanghai noodles! The dumplings were the perfect size, tender and great ratio of meat to wonton. Sometimes I find the dough for soup dumplings is too thick but these were perfect. Honourable mention goes to the wontons in chili sauce as they were superb. The Dan Dan noodles were a touch too thick for me in terms of the broth and alittle more on the peanutty side than what I like. If you don't get to this joint early beware of the lineup! We didn't wait at all cuz we showed up at 5pm and then once we sat a line up formed. It's quick turnover tho which is good so the line goes fast. Also bring cash! Will be back!

She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. I like the way they portioned it and served each of us. They did not skimp out on the ingredients, such as if they say whole abalone, it really is. They definitely served the best seafood. However, what truly disappointed me was the poor service. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the dishes were served very slowly. The first 2 dishes came out fast, but the later 2 dishes came out after 45 min. When we asked for additional rice and water, we had to wait an unusually long time. Throughout the meal, we felt neglected. It was hard not to feel that the level of service was noticeably indifferent, possibly because we did not order any high-priced seafood or premium dishes. For a restaurant at this price point, the service was simply unacceptable. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I would not return and would not recommend it.
