TLDR: Quality of the boba is inconsistent Service isn't horrible Prices are deceptive Quality of the store is significantly diminished between when it was opened and now. I don't particularly like the way they do hidden fees. If you remove ice from your drink you get charged $0.25 more for your drink. A regular size drink is exactly 2 measurement cups of drink, and an upgrade to large (which is the typical normal size in most boba stores) costs $0.75 Drink starts out at ~$5.50 but after taxes and fees, the drink costs $7.00 read more

My brother picked me up an order the night before and this was my last night before returning home. When he asked me what I wanted, answer...BOBA! How perfect that this is just down the street from his place. My go to in most cases is Taro, but when I saw Hokkaido on the menu it got my attention. It was a wise choice! I'm hooked. I'll be back in CA in a few weeks and this will likely be a place for me to visit at least 2x while I'm there. Is this the best Boba tea place? Not necessarily... as boba shops in San Diego are as easy to find as a Starbucks. I have been to other ones in the city with a few other unique experiences. The current state of the world has likely affected business for many at this time. For now, Ding Tea will receive most of my business when I'm back in town. It is nice that they do offer a mobile order option but we didn't take advantage of it that night. I likely will do so on my return to avoid a long wait and social distance. read more

Found this place on accident because I wanted boba but it was pretty late at night when I decided to go out and try to find some place. Due to COVID a lot of places are closing earlier and earlier and one place I drove to was actually closed so I decided to look for a place before giving up. Found this place and decided to give it a try. Its in the corner next to Panda and I was shocked I had never seen it as I go to this strip mall somewhat frequent. They were very nice - a little hard to hear when trying to order but it was late and they seemed a little tired (dont blame them it was about 10pm) and their plastic barrier protecting them was the main issue of hearing them but it's for their protection so I'm not complaining. Was happy to see they had slushies as that is my go to at any tea place. Ordered a strawberry slushie with lychee topping. They accidentally messed up by inputing the wrong kind and it was only 50 cents difference and I just told them to keep it, but they instead just upgraded my medium to a large which is nice. They also asked me if I had wanted to just upgrade to them adding Yakut to it, but i can't due to being lactose intolerant but nice of them to ask. It didn't take long for it to be put in the window for me to take, however, they didn't announce it or anything. I just happened to look inside from waiting out in the front and see it put out. It was surprisingly not too sweet - some slushies have issues of being so sweet its almost off putting - but this was a nice sweet. The ice was a little hard to chomp on as it was a ball or some small shape and i thought it was lychee so when i chomped down on it it was kind of startling. Lychee was nice and chewy and was not warm as I have had some bad run ins with the lychee jelly being rather warm...in a cold drink. I def enjoyed this and will be back for more! read more

I got the black tea latte with almond milk sub at this location and was pleasantly surprised! Typically subbing a different milk changes the dynamic of the drink slightly (yay for dairy allergies), but this was delicious! The tea and the almond milk blended very well together and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would come here more often if it were closer to where I live. read more

I ordered the signature milk tea with boba and I can confidently say that you can find better milk teas in other boba places. The boba was very hard and the milk tea tasted was okay. It tasted exactly like the milk tea I could make at home for cheaper. The medium size is also very small compared to other stores. Moving on... My sister ordered the lychee milk tea and found that her lid was not sealed on tightly! It wasn't even busy, yet they acted like they were in a rush. There were only 3 other customers including us. They were also already out of some toppings even after the store has only been opened for around 2 hours. I originally planned to get the pudding, but turns out they didn't have any more, bummer. I had their signature black milk tea at one quarter sweet. The milk tea was fine, but what disappointed me was the amount of ice they put in the drink. The cup was three quarters the way full and took up most of the space. After trying many different boba places (I am no boba snob) I just feel that this place tastes the best. They have a ton of flavors to choose from and they have milk tea or regular tea. The boba is not too chewy and is cooked well. I usually order 50 to 75% less sweet because they are very sweet and I like my drinks on the less sweet side. This is my favorite place to get winter-melon tea and it's the only place that offers crystal boba!!! That I know of... Crystal boba is sooo good. It tastes way better than regular boba. The winter-melon tea is great but I must say, it is overly sweet, even when you request it to be lightly sweetened. If they put a lot of ice in your cup, the water will tone down the sweetness. Their yogurt drinks are really yummy as well. My daughter always request the strawberry yogurt. I love how simple their menu is and their teas are great. Love that they're open late. After dinner, I wanted some boba so ordered ahead and picked up my drinks. Even though they were both small(mine was suppose to be a large), they were not hesitant to correct the size and quickly made it again for me. This is always appreciated highly because they didn't show signs of annoyance. When it comes to a plain milk tea, Ding Tea has one of the best in my opinion (Signature Milk Tea)! My preference in milk teas is that they have a distinct tea taste and the one here is so yummy! I personally like it at 75% sweetness because I don't like things too sweet. On top of that, I've been recently getting the Signature Milk Tea Slush which is just a little more expensive but SOO GOOD as well! I feel like the slush form of the milk tea is worth more to me because I drink it slower than just a straight up milk tea (a hack from me, you're welcome). Another fave drink of mine is the wintermelon milk tea which is really good, but also REALLY SWEET. Even at 50% sweetness it is still a little sweet for my liking, but I would definitely give it a try. My only complaint with this location is that they're not always consistent with their drinks, depending on who makes it. When asking for 50/75% sweetness, I will get varying sweetness levels based on who prepared my drink. On top of that, I've had some issues with receiving the wrong size drink (I always order a large, don't give me a small!). Food 4.5/5: I ordered their Monster Bobo but substituted the milk for actual milk tea. The milk tea combined with brown sugar and cheese foam was out of this world. I highly recommend doing this! Overall a pretty below average experience. I went in to order to bubble teas, but the cashier was really struggling to enter in my order. I had to repeat it four times to her. My order wasn't complex at all, and I was practically shouting it because of how much she asked me to repeat. When I finally did get it, I walked out to my car and realized I did not get the brown sugar milk tea I ordered, but instead a brown sugar coffee. The taste of everything was only okay (the coffee being way too strong for me personally). I come to Ding Tea often with my loved ones and I was looking forward to getting the milk tea today. When I walked in today it was empty. As in nobody was sitting in or at the register. I had to call to the back and ask for service. I just thought to myself maybe they are short staffed today. The gentleman who approached me at the register was wearing a Rolex and gold chain and carried himself like he was the owner. He took my order and I mistakingly asked for a regular Oolong Tea instead of my usual Oolong Milk Tea and the gentleman handed off my drink to his worker that was already busy. I waited 10-15 minutes while he walked to the back room and loathed off. Extremely unprofessional. All he had to do was add milk, end of story. Went to this location on the recommendation of my brother because he raved about it and I had a craving after finishing work on Sunday (my first day solo on the floor), and ended up getting a lychee green tea with golden boba and lychee coconut jelly. I moved recently, and this boba shop is right down our street and near Carl's Jr., which we love. So I usually stop by Ding Tea after picking up our Carl's. I LOVE the Hokkaido Milk Tea with Tiramisu Foam, boba, and grass jelly. My husband always gets the Taro Milk Tea with Boba. We both order with no ice. I 100% recommend the Hokkaido Milk Tea. The employees are friendly and helpful. One girl, though, is super soft-spoken and kind of hard to hear over the loud music they usually have playing. They are not very efficient in picking up the phone to place phone-orders, though, and it takes a while for them to pick-up and prepare your order. You are actually better off ordering and picking up in-store. The boba shop is cleverly placed next to a Panda Express. This shop offers a great selection of drinks that also serve as desserts! I love drinking my desserts. The neighborhood is sort of suspect, sometimes there are creepy stragglers hanging around in the lot, especially the vacant Dickie's BBQ next to the Panda Express, which is right next to the boba shop. When I went to this Ding Tea once, around 8pm, a man entered the shop and started threatening everyone in the store and swearing at the employees. An employee, a young man, handled the situation perfectly and kicked the intruder out - the employee was very firm with him and did not escalate the situation. There was a good amount of people in the store at that time, around 10-12 customers. I advise to keep a vigilance when you are in this shopping lot. read more
