Ordered at the register and was given a number to take to a table of my choosing. Food was ready fairly quickly. The fries were cold and plain. I really enjoyed the potato taco. It was very flavorful. I would definitely go back to order that again.
I have been curious about Shoots for a while. Glad to give it a go. We each had a couple grilled yellowtail tacos. They were tasty but not super filling. We had a nice Japanese Lager with our tacos Shoots has a large selection of choices. They offer beer & wine. We sat at the counter. Not the most comfortable stools. They have their own little patio in front & other communal space outside. Chill vibes here. Seems like they have a local following. Will check them out agin & order something different. Order at the counter spot. They share a parking lot with other eateries. Parking can be full during peak hours.
5 stars for the poke sampler and beer! The fish was buttery and did not taste fishy at all. The sampler could feed 2-3 people. Do not order the oysters here if you love oysters. They were pretty fishy and you can tell they didn't chill them properly. They serve it with a ponzu sauce in the half shell and the sauce actually makes it taste fishier.
This small spot specializes in poke and tacos and a bunch of other interesting, mainly seafood items, which make me want to return. That is always a good sign. The poke here is excellent. The poke sampler gives you three separate pokes (we had to double up on one of the pokes because they ran out of the third). This is a delicious dish. It comes with some very good seaweed salad and a scoop of rather dry rice. But for poke fans, this is a winner. We also tried the taco combo which gives you three separate tacos. We went with fish, shrimp, and potato, and the potato was the clear winner, by far. While we enjoyed all the tacos, and you can tell these use quality ingredients here, they were basically street size. For the price, I cannot recommend the combo. They have many interesting beers on tap and a good selection of unique wines. I have had the Shoots Japanese lager before and it is a good one. I went with a dark Mexican lager this time and loved it. This is primarily an outdoor seating place. Order at the counter and grab a seat. Get the poke.
If you're craving crispy, no-nonsense fish & chips in a laid-back setting, Shoots Fish & Beer delivers. Located in The Cottages on Roosevelt Street in Carlsbad, this spot is part of a charming courtyard setup with first-come, first-served seating and a dog-friendly venue. It's surrounded by a great lineup of food offerings: * Shoots Fish & Beer * Pop Pie * Revolution Roasters * Stella Jean's Ice Cream We'd already been impressed by Pop Pie, so this visit was all about the fish and chips. We ordered the Classic Fish n Chips (fried rockfish, fries, tartar sauce, malt vinegar) for $18, and it was delivered to us in under 10 minutes. Hot, crispy, fresh, and flavorful. Exactly what you want. The fish had a perfect crunch, and the fries were just as good. Simple, fast, and seriously satisfying. We'll definitely be back.
Service is great. We had the poke sampler, which comes with about 1/2 cup of each of the three poke items, and the fish and chips. The fish and chips should be called chips and fish because we got 4 short and thin pieces of rockfish on a bed of fries. It was like 2:1 in terms of the amount of fries to the amount of fish. Regardless it was delicious, albeit small. Most of the poke tasted overwhelmingly of cucumber. It's mentioned in the ingredients under each poke dish, but the cucumber overpowered the taste and adds to the size of the poke serving. Still really decent, just based off the freshness of the fish, but the sauce flavors are almost nonexistent for two of the poke dishes, and for the third one, it's essentially spicy mayo as the flavor. I would return again to try the fish tacos or the specials, but probably wouldn't get the fish and chips again. Ambience is also great! They have a patio that faces the street and is fenced off. One of the best things of this place.
Stopped by Shootz in Carlsbad and gave their poke bowl and potato taco a try (the taco disappeared before I remembered to take a picture). Overall, I'd give it 3/5 stars. The food was fresh, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed with both outdoor seating and a small indoor dining area. The standout for me was definitely the potato taco. It was flavorful, well-made, and something I'd order again. The poke bowl was decent, but I found myself wishing there was a little more sauce. The ingredients tasted fresh, but the bowl felt a bit underwhelming for the price, especially when it came to portion size. Nothing was bad by any means, and I can see why people enjoy it. I just left feeling like it needed a little more of either the flavor or the quantity to really wow me. Fresh food, nice staff, and a solid casual lunch spot if you're in the area.
Their food is very good, but it's pretty expensive and small portions. The fish and chips was extremely good. I would deffinately recommend stopping if you want an afternoon bite and a drink!
Mmmm... fresh fish tacos, spam musibi sushi and beer on tap. Can you name a better combo? Service is always great and if you are new, they have great recommendations! Love the ample seating. You can sit at the bar, be in the shade on the patio or sit in the sun up front. If the line is long, just wait. It is totally worth it.
As a vegetarian, I can't really comment on the fish tacos, but we ordered the hurricane-style fries and they were excellent, super unique with the seaweed topping. We also got the hazy IPA and the blonde ale, and both were really good. Service was a bit slow, but it was a weekend and there was a long line, so it made sense. The overall area is really nice too, it's a shared open space with Roosevelt Roasters, Stella, and a Pop Pie, with plenty of tables under the trees. There's a great mix of sun and shade, which makes it a nice place to hang out.
Got the Poke Sample Plate and loved the OG Shoyu!! The Shishito Peppers with Grilled Octopus and Bonito Flakes were sooo good too. They have both outdoor and indoor seating, and it's located at the Carlsbad Cottages. Parking was pretty easy. It does get busy on the weekends, so just be aware. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxing and inviting. I'll definitely be back again.
Okay this place has quickly become one of my new faves in the area and I am not exaggerating!! I had been on the hunt for a solid poke spot and this one totally delivered. I got the poke sampler and the ahi tuna in shoyu literally transported me to Hawaii no joke. It was so fresh and just melted in my mouth. I also tried the poke musubi and oh my gosh it was so good I inhaled it in seconds lol. And the octopus and shishito peppers?? Amazing. The octopus was so tender and the peppers were surprisingly sweet which I loved. Honestly everything we had was a hit. The staff were all super friendly and the service was quick too. You order at the counter and the food comes right out to your table which is so convenient. Plus the outdoor seating is such a vibe especially on a sunny California day. This is definitely my new go to poke spot!!

I love Shoots Fish & Beer. They have so many tasty options, it's hard for me to choose just one. It also makes me want to go back to try even more food. It's become a place that my husband and I return to, and take our visitors. My mouth is savoring at the thought of the fish and chips. The fish is delicate and the breading is just thick enough and crispy. The fries remind me of when McDonalds fries are at its best, We've tried tacos, which was nice and fresh. The seasoning and sauce were also delicious. I was a huge fan of the tuna in the sampler. There was a spicy option I wasn't a huge fan of. Shoots Fish & Beer was a very satisfying experience. Even though I found the food I sampled to be 3-star, not 4-star, I liked the vibe of the place and it was easy to imagine returning for a similar light nosh and beer, which I think is the sweet-spot for enjoying the place. I sat inside which is a deceiving statement. The space has a roof on it but, as designed, the entrances are wide open and not much different than sitting outside. So why sit inside? Because you can opt for the counter/bar seating or because you want to watch the baseball game airing on the big screen. Many beers are offered here, and the satisfying Harland Nelson West Coast IPA was chosen. Accompanied by a Toro Handroll ($12), Musubi ($8), and Bang Bang Cauliflower ($8), this made a satisfying light meal for two. Despite fully consuming them, the food offerings didn't wow us. Some additional wasabi, ginger, and I know not what would amp up the flavor profiles and be more personally satisfying to me. But still? I liked the place and left saying that I could see returning. Nice vibe and perfect for a cold beer and a simple, small something to keep your stomach from grumbling. read more

Attempted to come for happy hour, but I missed it. I still got a drink, a Baja style fish taco, and a potato taco. The patio is shared with other shops, and it was lively with many families. Both tacos were delicious, although I preferred the crunchy texture of the battered fish. I love potato tacos, and this was my first time having one in a soft tortilla. Great time overall, but slightly disappointing due to an oversight on ordering the Oysters and not noticing the sweet watermelon juice addition which flipped the oysters on their side, overpowering their natural flavor. Always love Shoots! Either location is great. I do prefer the ambiance and seating here at the Carlsbad one though. Plenty of outdoor seating either shaded or sunny. Shoots is located in Carlsbad Village and shares a common area with Stella Jean's, Revolution Coffee and Pop Pie; it's kind of a cool one stop shop. Shoots slangs up top notch seafood at a reasonable price. The menu is mostly poke, tacos and a few fried odds and ends. Yours truly went with the spicy albacore poke and added fried jalapeño for an extra 50¢ (worth it). 'Twas plentiful, fresh and delicious. Zero regrets. They also have about 15 beers on tap, a few ciders and seltzers and wine. It isn't huge but they have a few indoor tables, a little patio and a bunch of shared seating outside. Food was good. Portion size was definitely smaller than expected. We ordered three different entrées to share and was still not full. Really like the outdoor patio space. The shop is clean with open kitchen, and service was fast and efficient. You order at the counter and then find a table to sit down. Really like the fast casual process. Bathrooms were clean. My wife loves Shoots, so we decided to try out the Carlsbad location after going to the No Kings event. We don't need a monarchy or an oligarchy (rich control everything) so it's important to support small local businesses while letting your voice be heard. Ordered the musubi and the fish n chips(which you can only get at the Carlsbad location). The musubi is my favorite and I don't think I'll be able to eat traditional musubi anymore without comparing it to Shoots' version. My wife loved the skinny fries and the fish was hearty. She already wants to come back again to try the nachos and other menu items. Will probably need to buy her a shirt for the holidays since she is such a fan. They have a lot of cool designs and options. Service was great and they brought our food to the table which was appreciated. There is plenty of outdoor seating and other fun places to try close by. read more

Stumbled on this while running errands. Decided to get the rockfish sando which has a nice fluffy brioche, two decent chunks of rockfish, and a nice tang. The fish is super crispy and it came out pretty quick. It's a nice little spot nestled amongst a couple other trendy things, which is a nice break from the old Carlsbad village. There's tons of beers in tap so Wilma definitely have to check this out in the future. read more

Love this little area. Perfect for working remote from getting a coffee in the morning at Revolution Roasters then lunch at Shoots. The Bang Bang Cauliflower is delicious.
