Dino's is one of those places close to Jefferson Park that I didn't get around to visiting until recently. I'm ranking it a 4 because of the food quality. I dined in solo and was promptly seated in a corner by the food prep area. The crashing of ice during my meal didn't add to the ambience. My server Anna was pleasant enough, although I don't like being called honey, sweetheart etc., but others have called me far worse. I ordered a full meal and was a bit put off because the courses overlapped. This was mid-afternoon on a Thursday when the restaurant was not crowded. When I said something to my server about feeling slammed, I was offered a free dessert. Things slowed down a bit after that. Anna was very attentive to my table making sure that I had drink refills, utensils, and other items. Now lets get on with the food. First Anna brought out warm homemade bread along with olive oil and parmesan cheese; the butter was ignored. The bread had a thin crispy crust and was ultra fresh. Above average and delicious. Salad was good and fresh cut. Decent quality house dressing. My pet peeve is the aftertaste from "bagged" salad. That wasn't an issue here. A great Italian restaurant is judged by their sauces (or gravy if you're Sicilian) and quality of their meatballs. I had gnocchi and meatballs with marinara. The gnocchi was perfectly al dente; the meatballs were very good, slightly dense good ratio of meat to filler; the marinara was fresh tasting, a bit chunky with tomato and fresh basil. Very tasty, although I tend to like my marinara a bit thinner with a uniform consistency. I'm very picky about my cannoli, prefer the traditional way with pistachio on the ends and a light dusting of powered sugar. The cannoli here was good, but I didn't like it served with whip cream. It was done for presentation and looked nice, but the sticky whip cream on the shells made it harder to pick up and eat. It still tasted goof though. Nice restaurant and friendly people. I read about this pizza gem on Chicago Eater and was curious. Turned out to be a great choice. Crust was awesome, extra thin and buttery. We had ordered italian sausage, onion, garlic & bacon on a 12". It was pretty good. Our server, Paula, was very helpful and entertaining to our 16 month old toddler. She went out of her way to accommodate her. The place is very cozy and transported me to old fashioned pizza place. We will be back for sure! read more

We've been here a few times and ordered take out (mostly pizza) quite a few times. Very good food, good portions, family oriented atmosphere (the separate bar is likely adult only). Last night was the first time we sat outside. Surprisingly, no one was on the spacious patio, but we still had fantastic service from Paula and Lupe?! Paula was nice, fun, and talkative; she engaged with our 4 and 5 year old as well. She brought a pitcher of Diet Coke for my husband who was drinking quickly (good for her and him). Food and drinks came out promptly. Lupe has helped us before and has always been very attentive and nice. Not too far from work. I've passed this place sooo many times and never gave it a thought. Finally tried and I will be back. Got thin sausg-mush. Was very good - sauce not too twangy, not skimpy on the ingredients. Thin was not too thin; what that means to me is it held up to the ingredients without buckling or the crust cracking because it was too thin and/or baked too long. I not giving a 5 star because it was a tad greasy. Perhaps if it was blotted before it came to the table, I'd not have noticed. Their menu is extensive, prices reasonable. I will be back to try some of their sandwiches. 40 years in business, they're obviously doing something right! read more

I've been a customer for 40 years and have always loved your pizza and never had a bad thing to say until now. I understand places can have an off day which can be forgiven but in the last month I've ordered 4 times and was not happy. Your quality has gone down drastically. Pizza is way thinner than ever. Pizza is extremely greasy. I love greasy pizza but when i pick up a piece and the grease just pours off is too much. Very chincy on the cheese. And now very undercooked. I am officially done. I have gone from eating here/take out once a week to none a week. I only come here maybe once a month because of friends. Now no more. Service has gone downhill. Most of the old waitresses are gone. I do have to give kudos tonight to the one tall busboy. I do not think our table has been "sir"ed so many times. Loved the waitress wish I had remembered her name. Pizza is not as good as it once was. Seems like less cheese. Crust not as crispy. Garlic bread has changed. There are not many tables in the front. If you get stuck in back it is party city. Too noisy!!! You can't talk and be heard. Tonight we ordered pizza and lasagne. We waited a long time for the pizza. I have to say it was busy. Excellent pie! Great pasta dishes. Huge samitches! Get the beef on garlic bread and ask for hot marinara on the side. They just need to cut down on the waiting time. Extremely inappropriate and socially unaware staff. The first thing the waitress said to us when she came to our table was not, "What can I get for you?," it was "Are you from Hong Kong?" She proceeded to tell us about her Chinese ex-husband, her time in Hong Kong and SF, and all the phrases she learned. After a long, awkward pause, we placed our order and thought it would be the end of it, but sadly it wasn't. Each time she came back to our table, she started with "Ni hao." Then she asked if my family and I were visiting the U.S., and when we said we live here, she asked for how long. It was clear that we were all extremely uncomfortable with her questions and trying to keep our answers short, but she was unaware of this and didn't leave our table until another table called her over. When the pizza came, we tried to eat as quickly as possible. Then a well-dressed woman came over, who I presume is the manager. I thought she was coming over to apologize for the waitress's behavior, but she took out her phone instead. She showed us a picture of a tie she debated on buying and asked if we know how to read the "Asian language" printed on it, and said she wouldn't buy it if it said something offensive. Hmm, might that be EXACTLY what you're already doing??? Wow. Needless to say, we rushed out of there. But not before the waitress rung my family member up and asked if he owned a restaurant. When he said no, she persisted and said, "Yeah, you do!" Not sure if I want to laugh or cry at our experience tonight. Even the younger staff who worked there looked appalled, but in the end, they said nothing, so shame on them too. The sausage and spinach pizza was actually solid, but it's like they've never interacted with minorities before and made our experience so unbearingly uncomfortable. So, so sad. I am usually extremely picky with my pastas, but the pasta here was fantastic. It was my first time visiting. The mostaccioli was amazing. The sauce was perfect and not to watery. Our family has been coming to Dino's for over 50 years and we LOVE it. Although we do not get here often any longer, we are planning to come every month, hopefully. We were here on September 4th and not only did we have a good time and the food delicious, the service is impeccable (thank you Laura), ALL staff is friendly and extremely attentive, We even had our dad's funeral lunch here because Dino's was his favorite restaurant. This is the second time I have picked up an order and they have made me wait past the estimated pickup time. I understand that the kitchen can get backed up but can you have the decency to call before I wait an additional 45 minutes at your location? Today was not any better. We waited over an hour. Food excellent. Service atrocious. Called to let manager know about bartender. Manager seemed professional and asked me to come back. When I returned to give it another chance, the angry bartender told me that she likes to joke around and have fun, that she had been working there a long time and that she didn't appreciate me starting any trouble for her. She then proceeded to bully me and badmouth me to her regular customers who told me that she was telling them that I am crazy. Dino's is a pizza parlor right out of the 50's, and their pies are legit. Thin crust, well done is definitely the way to go normally, but the BBQ bacon is an awesome way to change it up. Always fast, and is definitely the best in the neighborhood. The weekly deals are unbelievable too. Wednesdays you get a small cheese with any pizza, and free pop with any order on Saturdays. They're a neighborhood place and really appreciate their customers, and they have a descent sized dinning room and small banquet room too. Their food besides pizza is pretty good as well, pasta, beef and the other Italian staples. Dino's is the only place I order from for a good reason, it's really good and consistent. read more

Excellent old school Chicago Italian fare. I usually take orders to go, but the inside has an authentic feel and nice servers. It's a no frills zone with neighborhood regulars, but I feel as if some places should stay original... The thin crust pizza is a main stay at Dino's and is best when ordered "extra thin". DUDE...I reviewed this place a couple of days ago from previous experiences there. Tonight, I went there with family, and after reading the great reviews about the BLT pizza I had to try it. AWESOME shiznit! If you like BLT sandwiches, you'll LOVE this pizza. The crust is cooked with cheese and bacon bits on it. Then mayo, yes I said mayo, lettuce and tomatoes all cold on top. Very good. No one else wanted to try it, so I got the 7" personal pizza. All the moans of delight had everyone else at my table, and tables near by, wanting some of what I had. Not as crazy as the scene in "When Harry Met Sally", or the Herbal Essences commercial, but pretty damn close. If you no likey BLT's don't try it...you won't likey! ;-) read more

OK, I like the neighborhood appeal, the homey interior, but if you place a carryout order for more than say, four or five people, double check your order. Large numbers seem to throw the staff. I've had items omitted or erroneously included on two previous occasions, but tonight is a polar vortex evening and I refuse to hike back over to the restaurant because they forgot to include my order...and I'm still waiting for their guy to deliver it. So, words of caution: double check your order. Be patient if you're waiting for their delivery guy. Have your friends/family order enough to feed you until your order arrives. After dinner update: the Italian beef: very dry. Plentiful but very dry. My dog was thrilled though...Buffalo chicken sandwich: huge but amazingly chewy. Cheesy beef was OK since the cheese helped offset the papery dry beef. Oh yeah, still waiting for my soup. So I took down one star. read more

I grew up eating at this place. I also lived in the neighborhood half of my life. While both are stale and out of date, Dino's is an atrocity against the humble pizza. The dough has enough corn starch to keep your car from slipping on an icy driveway. The sauce is canned, sweet and uninspired. The cheese is mediocre. My grandparents swear by this place. They also make mainly recipes from 1960-1970. Do yourself two favors. One, stay away from this place, there's no excuse for bad pizza. Two, if you are unfortunate to live in this area: move. Pretty good for a simple pizza place. A really good place for groups and family's. There were a couple of groups there while we were eating and everyone seemed to be having a good time and was well served. We didn't order any of their special pizza's, just my standard: pepperoni, black olive and mushroom. We also got garlic added.
