My go-to spot for Italian takeout is Dino's. The food is always consistent and the staff is always hustling. My regular order: mushroom pizza with sausage, penne alla vodka (rich and creamy), and the spinach calzone. The spinach is sautéed in olive oil and garlic and it's incredible. Their pizza dough is just right-- not too thick, not too thin. Perfect every time. The ambiance isn't Michelin-star fancy and they don't have expensive bottles of wine, but that's not why I go there. Food certainly has changed over the last few years. Went in for a few slices at about lunchtime and the plane slices were just reheated and blah. Barely any sauce, seem like there's no flavor characteristics so I actually thought it was maybe just a bad slice. My back got another slice and it was just that one pie. Ended up getting another gourmet slice and it just had no characteristics of flavor surface was just fine as it really wasn't that busy. I have recommended this joint to everyone because the pizza is consistently excellent and the service could not be better. I eat a grandma and a Scarp slice every Sunday. Every Sunday, it is as good as the last. They do not slack off; they do not over-cheese or under-sauce. Rain or shine, the boys at Dino's are whipping up killer pies. If you ain't eating at Dino's, your probably eating at Old Stone, and if you are eating at Old Stone, you eat bad pizza. I will leave you with this... Thete are several pizzerias in the Pleasantville/Thornwood area--at least five that come to mind immediately--and Dino's is my favorite. Their service is fast, prices very reasonable, and they are courteous and friendly. Aside from the very good pizza (generous-sized slices), their pasta dishes are very good as well. I like Dinos!! For over 7 yrs my only reason for coming is for their lasagna pizza and eggplant rolls and/or parm. Nobody makes a lasagna slice like them. Unfortunately, on my most recent visit I called in my order and they said there were no more lasagna slices "but I can make you one". Well of course I said yes! What I received was NOTHING close to the product they usually provide. Too bad I didn't open the box ahead of time because I would have told them never mind. Best pizza in this area by far! I went here everyday while in high school in the early 1990s and went back with my 15 year old son and husband last week and we loved it! I grew up eating Dino's pizza since was a kid. It was the best back in the 80's and even the 90's. I left NY in 97 and dreamed for almost 20 yrs of eating Dino's pizza again. I finally had the chance and I can't tell you how totally disappointed I was. I got one regular slice and one Sicilian slice. Both were barely mediocre at best. It wasn't the NY pizza I grew up with. It was a sad sad sad day. The guys were sooooo nice a friendly, which I realize accounts for something, but ultimately I went there for the food. I asked my friends what happened to Dino's while I was there. They told me most all the Italian pizza joints aren't even owned by Italians anymore. They've all gone downhill in quality b/c the spirit of the Italian pizza maker is gone. Sadly, I didn't have one good slice of NY pizza in all 3 pizza joints I tried out while I was visiting. So sad. Definitely not a NY style pizza joint- I do like the 60's sign and counter set up, but its pizza is a very strange style-unique to this portion of the county... First- its probably not Italian owned- but as I have mentioned before, thats ok- Second- the slice selection seemed bountiful, but there were too many slices of strange persuasions at 3 PM- surely these pies were made before noon or even high on the SPF factor (Slice Pie Fridgerated) overnight... but im not certain. The slice was a thicker type of a NY slice- Bread was tasty- almost too thick to be folded.... like a mix between Pizza Hut Pan pizza and NY style thin- very interesting (can you imagine attempting to fold such a slice?! but I did accomplish the feat and was rewarded by a dollop of grease/sauce upon my alligator emblazoned upon my polo-shirt. read more

I agree with Matthew K...don't waste your time with anything else and just order the Buffalo Chicken slice. If you're real, order the whole pie. Far and away that is going to be your best option. I've been a regular here for the past two years. I never eat at the restaurant because it isn't that comfortable but I enjoy the take out. Recently they've added some new staff that is just a bit too quick taking phone orders and mess up a lot (the last three weeks I've been). . .but they always make it right and I'm not too picky about what exactly I get as long as it's tasty and inexpensive. I like how the main courses include a side of vegetable and bread. The baked ravioli is my favorite. They also have awesome garlic knots. The salad pizza is just as salad pizza should be, but eat it quickly or the crust gets soggy.
