The food was good, no complaints there. I just want to leave a comment to warn the ladies that go to this place. Some of the men who work there made my friend and I very uncomfortable. We were seated across from the pizza oven. The male who was stationed there started taking pictures of us without our permission. My friend and I just walked out. We should have complained to the manager but we were so disturbed by his behavior that we decided not to. Ladies just beware!!!! No stranger should take pictures of you without your consent. I am sure we were not the first ones either. The Spanish waiter also said some things to us that made us very uncomfortable. It is sad that these men are working there and think this behavior is ok. Great service, friendly staff, but a casual attitude towards reports of food safety. While no restaurant deliberately tries to poison its customers (at least I hope not), that seems to be what happened to my wife and me at the beginning (Friday night) of what is now known as the Lost Memorial Day Weekend of 2019. It seems that the Linguini Fra Diavolo was the culprit. My wife ate all the shellfish and spent 3 1/2 days in the bathroom, even missing work on Tuesday. She could not finish the linguini, which regrettably I finished off. The result was that I had a less severe case that had me tied to the toilet for only 2 days. Our shared symptoms were nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. My wife even required a trip to the doctor. We called the restaurant on Monday to let them know what happened to us. The manager, Mike, wasn't in till Tuesday, so we were told to call back then. At that point Mike denied that there was anything wrong with the food and as proof stated that no other customer had reported similar problems. He did mention however that an employee had virtually identical symptoms to ours, implying that it was a bug going around rather than something wrong with the food. Perhaps, but that led us to speculate that contaminated hands from that infected employee may have handled our food and made us sick. Whatever the case, Mike claimed that they had nothing to do with it and that was that. . As is often the case with incidences of food poisoning it is difficult to ascertain the source of the problem, but were left with the feeling that the restaurant was more concerned about their potential liability than with the health of their customers. We hope that no one else became sick due to tainted food or its handling by an ill employee, but decided that it was our responsibility to at least share what happened to us. read more

Diagnosis: Fish switching. If you are craving a rich, delicate and fatty texture of Halibut ( a $30 entree)- go somewhere else. If you stay, prepare to pick much cheaper , tasteless, dry ( but abundant)fish out of your teeth. ( probably haddock, about $7 per lb). It will be steamed or microwaved and then dipped in batter and cooked... I let them know there was a problem , they apologized and did not charge me for the ... wine(!) I still had a $33 bill for the wine, bread, and some spinach that " halibut" came with... You be the judge. read more

Service was good. Missy was our server and she was attentive and pleasant. Brioche bread on table was excellent. Its a thicker crusted bread. We ordered stuffed mushrooms which were mediocre. The outside was a little hard and the sauce a bit chunky for my taste. The caprese salad was good but how can you really go wrong with that. My husband and I shared the Pollo Vasdastona. That was excellent! Huge dish of fried chicken with prosciutto and mushrooms in a brown sauce. Chicken was tender and definitely enough for two. Comes with a side of pasta of your choice. We came in here on a Saturday after the beach to order take out food and boy was that a mistake. We ordered a Pannini and penne alla vodka and still an hour and half later we where still waiting for it. The waiters and bartender complained the whole time about the kitchen staff and you could tell they were extremely frustrated. I asked to speak to the owner and was told he was too busy in the kitchen and they didn't want to get yelled at for going back there. We were finally getting ready to ask for our money back to leave when our food came out, and low and behold it was the wrong dish. The look of horror on the bartenders face said it all. The kitchen is horribly ran and can ruin your evening. I would definitely not take the chance of eating here. read more

I think they left it in the oven for 2 minutes...It was ice cold and the cheese was not melted...dough was super soggy. We have been here several times and it never disappoints. The pizza is fantastic. The fried calamari is tender and flavorful as is the wonderful cold seafood salad. Tonight my friend ordered veal cutlet Parmesan which is a pounded veal chop on the bone with fresh mozzarella. It was enough to feed 3 people! It was tender and delicious. This is my go to at the beach. The Caesar salad is a wonderful start, the artichoke broth is so delicious I can slurp it as a warm garlicky light tomato broth and the sole oreganato is always prepared perfectly. This is a casual pizza and Italian food restaurant with seating outside in the parking lot of the strip mall which didn't appeal to us so we sat inside. The meal took forever to come out, an hour and 10 minutes after we ordered. they forgot to actually cook 2 of the entrees ordered and by the time those came the others in the group were done eating. Food was mixed, some very good, some not as good. But the 2 stars is because of the wait and then forgetting two dishes and the decision to take the few iced teas ordered off the bill. Really, that's the best you can do in a service business? It was our first time there and we have been in the area for years, and it will be our last. There are much better casual Italian restaurants in nearby Long Beach with MUCH better service. read more

We went for Valentines Day Greasy not fresh food and poor customer service. Ordered the pear salad and the pears were not fresh, they were canned, making it soggy and wet in a not good way. Then ordered Veal a la Nona - waste of $34. Greasy deep fried soggy instead of crisp and juicy. Terribly disappointing especially for the price. Then the chef/owner grabs a knife and fork and cuts off a piece of my veal without asking, takes a bite, says it's fine, and walks away not willing to let me exchange the veal for something different. Great food, service was great. Waited an hour and half for food. The poor waiter was very apologetic and it wasn't his fault. The manager and Owner, Mike finally came to our table, after three requests to see him, he was frantic and suggested that we not "take a job working in his kitchen, it's crazy back there". I have a job already which is why I couldn't accept his offer to make it up to us by coming back on a Monday for a bottle of wine. So after staying away from this place for years cause our favorite servers left and the quality of food went downhill , my wife and I along with another couple went there on a Thursday night, we had a small pizza for with a few apps to share , the apps we had wasn't that bad but the pizza is nothing like it used to be , the sauce is bland and it is not fresh mozzarella by no stretch of the imagination, although the I believe the owners aren't Italian that doesn't mean they can't learn to make a descent pizza or hire a guy that is a pizza man , ever since Melvin the pizza guy left the pizza was never the same .and by the way , we just heard the Melvin is now making pizza with the great Sorrento's of west end ! I hear their pizza is the absolute best !! Melvin is the best ! I will be trying it very soon! Anyway , Then we had several drinks which my friend ordered a Grey Goose Rocks .... For someone who only drinks vodkas for the longest time says it was not Grey Goose !! Our server suggested we have Tito's , I guess he must of knew something .then we had the main course about an hour later , we had 2 pasta dishes , A fish and a veal dish . Wasn't terrible but it certainly wasn't the best . We skipped dessert cause the place just had a weird vibe to it. We went across the street to beginnings to have a night cap with Eva but she was away that week . I wish I could give (-) to this place. Went to this restaurant for Father's Day to celebrate with my wife, father and mother in law, sister and brother in law and my 2 children ages 3 1/2 and 8. We had a 6pm reservation and ordered our meals, including kids meals, within 15 min of being seated. After waiting almost 50 min we received our appetizers. A few min later we inquired from a very rude server where the kids meals were. She responded by saying, "What do you mean? They get their food when everyone else does". She left in a huff, rolling her eyes, and saying she will check. A few min later a very frustrated and rude chef (who may also be the owner/manager unclear) approached our table with his arm wrapped in a bandaged cast. He looked at the table and stated also quite rudely that they were doing the best they could and pointed to his arm saying "You see? I can't do anything?". No apology and no thank you to us for waiting patiently with little kids. It took another 15-20 min for us to get our meals and at the end the kids meals were the last to arrive. At no point were there any apologies from the staff that our kids had to wait nearly 90 minutes to receive their food. It was clear that the kitchen was overwhelmed but the rudeness of the staff and person in charge was unbelievable. Nothing was offered on the house and nothing was taken off the bill. The food was mediocre and bland. Needless to say we will not be returning. read more

We called in advance for a reservation for 7 people. When we arrived they told us they had no record of our reservation and that we would have to wait. When we found a place to sit we were informed that the wait for our food would be at least an hour. I ordered the penne ala vodka with meatballs and the the sauce lacked flavor. We asked for bread and it took 20 minutes to get our bread(which we had to go ask about again). Everything about the service was slow and and they weren't proactive at all in helping the customers. My new special someone and I were looking forward to a fun and memorable first New Year's Eve together. He had suggested a few places, and since we wanted to stay local and limit driving, I decided to check out what might be offered NYE at Villa Mare...one of the few restaurants in the area catering to a decent crowd without the hustle/bustle of young Long Beach or parking issues of Rockville Centre. I called Villa Mare a couple of days before NYE and spoke to owner/manager Mike. Though he noted there would be no music (we were ok with that, a lively group of diners, and good ambiance and food would've been enough for us), he said there would be a late dinner crowd, and reservations were highly recommended. He noted there would be celebration and NYE cheer at midnight with hats, noisemakers, and champagne on the house. I asked about the menu and was assured they were offering their complete regular menu, and while there would be some NYE specials, there'd be no prix fixe menu. That sounded exactly like what we wanted, low-key, but celebratory, with no crazy jacked-up prices or very limited menu, as we don't like being taken advantage of just because it's NYE. I told my bf about it and suggested he call to ask his own questions and make the reservation if he wanted to. He did, spoke to Mike, and was told EXACTLY WHAT MIKE TOLD ME, so my bf booked the reservation. Well the experience couldn't have been further than that sales pitch and I was so glad that my BF had heard it for himself or I would've felt even worse. We had a 9:30 pm reservation, which would've allowed us a relaxing dinner, with enough time for more drinks and celebration to follow. There were about five other dining groups at the time we got there, some with young children. No one came in after us. We started by ordering cocktails and said we weren't ready to order yet...after all, we thought we had the evening. The waiter (an older guy who has been there a long time), came over a few times, appearing to rush us, looking for our order. We said that we still were enjoying the drinks and hadn't looked at the menu yet, as we were in no rush and excited to be ringing in the new year with everyone later. He looked at us like we were nuts. He asked us if were joking and said the kitchen would be closing at 10:00 (It was nearly 10 by this time), and there would be nothing going on at midnight, because the staff would be gone and the restaurant would be closing. My BF and I looked at each other and him in shock. We thought HE was joking! Now we looked at the menu, and contrary to what we had been told, it not the usual menu, but was a very limited holiday menu. The waiter must have mentioned something to Mike, because shortly after, Mike came to the table and said, that even if other customers leave, he would be here and we would have a great time at midnight with the champagne and noisemakers. We were disappointed, though ok, if other patrons might not stay, but we were ok with making our own fun with Mike and whomever at midnight. The waiter came back again and kept rushing us and telling us what to choose. We weren't happy with his pushiness and certainly weren't happy to be told that despite a 9:30 reservation, and a typically late holiday, we had to quickly make our selections. Our main selection was the Chilean Sea Bass (one of our favorites elsewhere). We asked to substitute broccoli rabe for the spinach. Only when we got the bill did my BF notice (but being a gentleman didn't mention then or make an issue), that there was an additional charge for substituting one vegetable for the other. One would think since we ordered the most expensive choice on the menu ($38), that there wouldn't be an upcharge for broccoli vs. spinach. If there were, we certainly should've been informed beforehand. The evening was falling apart minute by minute, We were hoping to space out our dinner, but debated what to do given the events thus far, so started by sharing that because we were being rushed, while thinking about moving on to have dinner elsewhere at this point...not an easy task at 10:30 on NYE. Then Mike walked around distributing hats and noisemakers telling us what fun we'd have at midnight. My BF and I were trying to remain optimistic. But the events left us doubtful. The main dish arrived and the fish tasted good, but the portion was miniscule. The $38 (oh $48 with the veggie switch) was barely enough to feed one.). Within minutes the fish was eaten and the annoyingly hovering waiter put a check down and said, just let him know if we needed anything else, and he'd be around. Shortly after 10:30 only one other party and we remained. Mike walked over to our table, plopped a $5.00 bottle of champagne (in a supermarket plastic bag) on our table and said, "Oh everyone's gone. Never write reviews but Ordered take out for the first time since the new ownership. The food came fast probably because we ordered very early on a rainy Friday. We ordered the goat cheese salad , chicken parm and an eggplant parm panini. The salad was whatever not worth $12, made with zero love. There were 4 small pieces of goat cheese and a few glazed walnuts and 2 slices of tomato. The chicken parm was terrible . Over cooked salty terrible breading didn't taste good we had one bite. The eggplant parm panini was not even on a panini! Again very salty and on some crappy cheap bread. The food is not well made and not fresh. Would never order from here again. And there was fraud on my amex 7 hours later. read more
