Upon entering, it is a very small shop and I don't know if it was the owner or what... But he literally kept asking me if I needed help. And I told him I was all set. And he kept watching me the entire time. And it got really stressful. I'm a content creator and was in the middle of planning recipes and because they have a small selection. I was seeing what I could work with. But it's like nobody is allowed to think and take a second. Then his son came out and asked me if I needed help... and I said no thank you. And so the son just stared at me. So frustrated, I purchased just one bottle as I felt uncomfortable and didn't want to be in the store anymore. Before I even fully made it to the register, he's asking me for id... almost as if I wasn't of age (which I get often, but especially if I'm taking my time). The son was monitoring my transaction as his dad rang me up. I will never be back.

Recently, since I've become disabled, I'd called in a delivery order with no problem -- John had always been helpful -- until he left the store. Then I'd order through Kevin, also very helpful. Today, when I ordered, two people who didn't speak English tried to help me but had trouble taking the order. Suddenly, when I asked to speak to someone who could better understand me, Edward came on the line and said -- suddenly-- that the manager had decided not to take the order. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told he was "tied up". Bottom line -- used to be friendly and helpful. Not anymore. Too bad.

They also have high end dinners (with the food coming from their restaurant, La Campania, located just down the street) where they bring in a wine maker and pair the wines with food. It's fabulous! Average: while the store is very open about being Italian wine focused, that's tough to swallow as it's super, super narrow in focus. I love Italian wine but I rarely go out of my way to buy just Italian wine and that has held me from shopping here more. The prices are local store retail type prices. Not tons of value. Bad: the staff is often pretty inattentive.

It is a new store, so I'm going to forgive them this time for not being friendly and asking us if we needed any help or even introducing themselves. In fairness, one person did offer a suggestion which was nice, but the other walked past us fairly briskly without so much as a "hi". Same price as it was in VT (where I originally found it) and the guy at the register was nice. I live nearby and am at AY often, go early in the day if you can since it gets hectic starting around lunch (especially on weekends) and no one seems to be able to figure out how to drive/park correctly!

Unlike other stores, every item is clearly labeled so no fun price surprises at the cash register. They have a very good selection of beer, and if they don't have what you're looking for, they will order it for you! They also gave me a 10% discount for ordering a case. The Belgian beer I get is 5 cents more across the street at Trader Joes (big whoop) but the 20 minutes Of peace I gain by not having to venture into that madness and wait in line is priceless:) plus trader joe's only has but 1 flavor.

The little shpiel about the wine and the tasting itself took maybe 2 or 3 minutes total. Not really quite what we had in mind. Probably not worth the 45-minute trek across town but on a positive note, we did find a great little Asian fusion restaurant/bar/lounge that made the trip worth it. And on the other hand, if I lived in this neighborhood, I'm sure this would be a really great place to pick up a bottle of wine or other "spirit" on the way home to match with dinner.

As a former manager of the liquor store in Porter Square, I can say that this store does a great…read morejob fitting a ton of variety into a small space. Their selection is fantastic and their manager, Alex, even special orders the gin that I like when few other stores carry it. Their staff is friendly and have always worn masks whenever I go which is about twice a week. Plus, they are open late every day (11pm) when all other stores in the area are closed and hour or two sooner. Their smokes are also cheaper than any store in the area that I have been. Shame on any low reviews here, this place is great and clearly tries to please their customers!
