Actually, the best thing about this pizza place is their salad! My grandparents come here often. They always order the gigantic catering size salads. They never come short on toppings. They pile on the meat, cheese and such. While I like pizza and their pizza is good, pizza doesn't care much for me. I would settle for a gluten-free crust but they don't offer that here. Last I saw. Dion's is a decent place; the half salad is big enough to be lunch (especially if you choose Chef so it has some meat), the subs are alright, and the pizza tastes fine. I'm generally satisfied but it costs a little more than I'd like for lunch. My big gripe, and the reason for three stars instead of four, is they way they top the pizza slices. They take a cheese pizza, throw the extras you ordered on top, and warm it up. Whenever I pick up the slice, half my toppings fall to my plate! One of the best Pizza joints I have ever eaten at! I have been eating at Dion's pretty much since they first opened up. The quality of their food and service has always been top-notch for a pizza chain. My favorite is their Dion's Special Pizza. I could hurt myself eating that it is so delicious. I also love the great deal they have on salads. Their family-size salads are big enough to feed four to six people with some lift over, and the amazing thing is that they come in a sealable bowl with two nice serving forks that you can take home and add to your kitchen utensils if you so desire. And they do not skimp on ingredients in their salads either. The best thing is that the price of their family-size salad is about the same thing as you would pay another restaurant for an entrée salad for one person. This is my wife and I go to place for several years. Everything is always fresh and the service is always great and fast. Pizza is awesome however, their sandwiches are our go to order. They are always fresh. We have ordered their salads on a few occasions and they have never disappointed. If you haven't already tried Dion's you need to. My first impression of the restaurant was with a carry out order. Not being from Lubbock, I wasn't sure if this would be "authentic" pizza, a reasonable knockoff of pizza or something in between. I'm happy to say the pizza was up to snuff and was a good place to grab a slice. It was made well, not too much sauce and with enough toppings to keep us happy. My only concern was the staff that handed our order. There was nothing wrong with the order and they were friendly, but when I asked about options for pizza to go, the person behind the counter wasn't too creative. She offered us a cheese pizza to go, but in 10-15 min. Another employee overheard me and offered the pizza by the slice, which was ready in 4-5 min since we were in a rush. Not a deal breaker... and not the employee's fault. She just seemed to be new to the job or a less experienced worker. Overall, this is a solid place for pizza and one that impressed me. read more

Great for fast food pizza. I had fun talking to the cashier and the pizza was really good. Part of enjoying a restaurant is the atmosphere and this is where Dion's falls a little short. It feels like Denny's meets Ray's Pizza. Lots of plastic containers and pre-sorting speeds up service at the cost of feeling fresh. All in all I like it! read more

As a girl whose first job was at Dion's in Albuquerque (where it's out of), I'd say that I'm a good person to judge this place. It's on our way from Dallas into NM and we always stop to get our fix. We usually go pretty late and they aren't that busy but I don't know how they are at other times. If you've never been, they serve pizza (also by the slice), subs, and salads. Everything is good but my favorite is the 10" gourmet pizzas. They add olive oil to the dough when it's being made and it adds the perfect crispiness to the crust. Just a hint, they will put any kind of toppings you want on a gourmet pizza, you just have to tell them you want the 10". Really, you can customize anything on the menu. Don't like the onions and cucumbers in the salads? Tell them you want no mix. Then there is the ranch dressing. No other ranch dressing can ever compare to this stuff. I seriously think it fell from heaven because it's so amazing. Don't forget to try some green chile on your pizza, it's New Mexico's little gift to you! Pizzas take 20 minutes to make while salads, subs, and slices are out in 10. You can also get them altogether if you want. You can call in orders ahead of time so they are ready at a certain time or you can pick them up inside or at the drive through. Having worked in a Dion's and being trained in their headquarters, I can honestly say that this location has the one I worked at beat (I'm looking at you, Montgomery and Morris). They are clean, have friendly staff, and their food always looks (and tastes!) just how it's supposed to. This is a great location and I've been really pleased with how well they seem to have acclimated to Texas. This place is definitely worth a visit! read more

This pizza is DELICIOUS! I had the lunch special and I was stuffed. My BF had a medium pizza, just cheese and pepperoni. It was soooooo good. I like pizza but to an extent. This pizza particularly I can see myself craving over and over and over again. Their ranch is so good I'm going to have to go back and buy a bottle. If you're ever in Lubbock and want a pizza that is cheap and very quality, Dion's is for you. I loved it. It's great reheated as well, tastes as if you've just bought it. My new go to pizza place. Good pizza at a good price. I was expecting a sit-down and order place, but you walk in and order. I had no real issue with that,, just was not what I was expecting. We ordered a Dions (maybe it was the managers?) special with Pesto sauce instead of normal tomato sauce. The pizza took about twenty to get after you ordered. It was actually really good. So many things to compliment about this restaurant! First of all, you must get the cheese toast to start. Crispy bread covered in delicious garlic butter and cheese - some of the best I've had! The carnivore pizza is exactly that: covered in plenty of meat, no shortage here! The Tuscany is a little lighter but still very delicious with a fantastic pesto sauce! A family favorite since their first location opened here in Lubbock maybe 10 years ago. Dions pizzas run about 1 size larger than the competition (ex. their medium is equal to a large elsewhere). Their salads are huge (the family size is more than enough for my family of 6 adults) and they are loaded with meat and cheese! Their subs also have generous portions of meat. Dions offers pitchers of soft drinks / ice tea with free refills like Hut and Inn offered 30 years ago, a nice cost savings if your party has more than two (and you can agree on what to drink). Came here for lunch today and had their lunch special. I had a slice and half a salad. It was good, I enjoyed everything, my only complaint is that is seems they make cheese pizza and then put your toppings you want on that. The only reason I say that is none of my topping were stuck to my slice. It made it a little difficult to eat. My son loved his fruit and cheese bread. The salad is good, thanks for putting the dressing on the side. I enjoyed the crust, no come maintain there. My son LOVED being able to stand and watch the pizzas being made. read more
