I have absolutely LOVED coming to Picosos for many years now. I started going as a broke college kid, & continued going every other week or monthly as a wife & mom. When I initially started going, I could get my meal for $7 before tip. It was incredible. I was going every other week for my one meal eating out for the week. What more could a broke college kid want? My husband & I had never had a bad meal there. We love the food, atmosphere- overall, a good experience. At times service was not at its best, but we've also never had awful service. When they initially increased their prices due to inflation a few years ago, it made sense. Everywhere else had to do it too, & it was reasonable prices. There were still 6 wonderful combination options, all but one costing $10 or less. HOWEVER- when we more recently, we noticed they raised their prices again. DRAMATICALLY. & removed all but 2 of their combination options. What once could be ordered for $9, then $13.99, NOW cost $21.99!!! Their second option, a crispy relleno, a taco, & an enchilada now costs $22.99, when it previously cost $14.99. My favorite option, the Cancún, $7 meal, that became a $10.99 meal, no longer exists. For one person to eat at a Mexican restaurant & not be able to get out spending less than $25 for a meal is absolutely ridiculous. Sadly, after many years of being regulars at this restaurant, we will not be returning. The prices are outrageous & flat out greedy. So incredibly disappointed. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I had read about the upcoming opening on social media and friends in my foodie circle were chatting about the new Mexican place coming. Yeah, um no. The very first introduction I had was with a phone call I placed inquiring about bringing a larger group of foodies to dine. It took more than one phone call (and leaving my info) to get in touch with the person who could assist me. They basically said "we are a new place, everyone wants to eat here" "You would need to pay to reserve a room". So instead my large group went to Albarran's. We sat in a private room and had fantastic service and food. My next encounter was with a group of 3 friends that wanted to meet up for dinner. One suggested Picoso's and that is where we went. I was anxious to try the place, as I had been hearing great feedback on their food. Um again, no. I arrived about 10 minutes earlier than my dinner companions, and they led me to my table (as an incomplete party, but who was I to complain? I was sat adjacent to a young man, whom I gleaned was a Manager or Supervisor of some type. I listed to him chastise, over-talk, belittle and speak condescending to two wait staff who were seated with him. After that encounter, he summoned another server over and chewed her azz out too, for not following the strict code of conduct that he reminded her was required. If you are still reading this review, I would ask if you know anything about the rules Houston's restaurants had for their staff. It was like that x10. I still wanted to like this place. But I have made my decision. After eating at Picosos' three times, I am confident that their food is over-priced, portions are small, meats and side dishes lack flavor and the margaritas are akin to Taco Cabana. read more

Visited Picoso's for the second time with a small work group. The hostess accommodated our staggered arrival times and the waitress checked in regularly to get drinks for late comers. The food was delicious and our orders were almost perfect. Everybody that didn't clean their plate took the rest with them. We were hesitant to try Picoso's, due to some of the poor reviews. However, we are really glad we did and recommend you give them a shot. Our experience was well above their 3 star rating. Everything was excellent. The staff was great, the drinks were good, the food was very tasty and the atmosphere was nice. The cocktail list has some very appealing options. I ended up with the house margarita, just to see what we were working with. It was very good, and I look forward to going back to try the others soon. We got the Crispy Rellenos, fajitas, and the chocolate cake for dessert. All were delicious. read more

Every time I order 3 cheese enchiladas and NEVER have they ever made them with any more than just a small sprinkles of shredded cheese. I would encourage one to eat elsewhere. The service was very slow, drinks ran empty along with letting chips and salsa run empty. Then when meals come out, one was incorrect and one was missing. Then after telling them just forget both meals after everyone else was done eating, the missing meal and incorrect meal arrived. We had my parent's birthday party here and I have to say that the way the restaurant staff treated us made our family felt as part of their family. The manager we dealt with was Ashley and she was great to work with from the beginning. She was very friendly, super helpful and answered all my questions. She also made sure to check on us during our party. She made sure we had a private area which was very clean and comfortable. Kate and Nico were our servers and I have to say they were just as great and so friendly. Once our order was put in, we had our food within 20 minutes and it was fresh and tasted great! I love trying new places. I know it is a gamble, but life is too short not to take risks. Well, I got bit on this gamble. Picoso's is just one more cheap Southwest cuisine restaurant made up to look like a fancy dining joint. They do not serve authentic Mexican food here that I could see. Certainly nothing that would resemble anything you would get at a traditional restaurant in Mexico. Don't get me wrong, Southwest cuisine done right is amazing, and I love it as much as the next person but it is not Mexican cuisine. It just frustrates me that I go in a place called a "Mexican Kitchen" and they don't serve Mexican cuisine. So let me rate the food we did have here. Chips and Salsa These were actually not that bad. I have certainly had worse. However, they were not that great either. The salsa had a little more bite to it than other texmex joints, but it was pretty much just tomatoes with no other detectable elements. It was too salty as well. The chips are house-fried tortillas, which were pretty decent compared to other places that serve chips out of the bag. So that is one good thing. Chicken Tortilla Soup: I love soup, so when I saw they were serving Chicken Tortilla soup, I got excited and ordered it. When it came out, it was tiny (see the picture); about as much soup as you could fit in a regular coffee cup, or the dish the salsa came in. They gave me a literal tiny ice-tea spoon to eat it with (so they know it is not that much), and it is only nine bucks! I dipped my spoon in, picked it up to take a bit, and the cheese stretched from the bowl to my mouth! OMG! It was so salty I almost spit it out. It was a bowl of melted cheese with some tortilla strips, that was it. I dug through the whole bowl, trying to find a single piece of chicken, and there was none. I would call this CHEESE soup, because it certainly was not Tortilla Soup! I told the server to take it away because I could not eat it. It was beyond edible over salted. Message to the cooks. Salt is a flavor enhancer, not a spice. Its purpose in cooking is to bring out the flavors of the spices, not overwhelm them. Chili Relleno My wife had the Chile Relleno, and it was a little better. It was nothing special but at least it had a proper balance of salt and was edible. For 15 dollars, my wife got one medium and one small chili with small amount of cheese in them and about a tablespoon of fajita beef on the side (look at the picture I posted and see if you can find the beef on the plate). I believe that the refried beans came right out of a can, and the Spanish rice tasted to me as if it came out of a TV diner. When you go to a fancy restaurant and pay high prices, you should get quality food. Unfortunately, that is not the case at Picoso's. This is budget TV dinner cuisine at best. This restaurant deserves a real chef, if they are going to charge an average fifteen dollars a plate. The Bottom Line: This is a fancy, way overpriced, southwestern cuisine restaurant that serves low quality, over-salted food. You are paying for the décor and nothing else here. Our server was friendly, and she is the only reason I gave this place two stars instead of one. read more

This is just an overall great location. There's plenty of parking, it's easy to get to, simple and classy rustic/industrial interior, great lighting, and plenty of seating options. They're always quick and attentive, everything I've had there has been delicious to the point it can cause overeating. It's even sufficient for lunch. read more

Grew up near a Leal's Mexican Restaurant, and miss it. These folks are part of that family, and it shows. Salsa is great, as are the chips. Sour cream enchiladas are first rate, as is the fajita burrito (similar to Fajitas Lauras at Leal's). Great queso, and their fajita meat is really good. Have not tried much else, as these items are really good. Love the atmosphere. Feels slightly more upscale than a typical Mexican food place, but you wouldn't feel odd walking in wearing shorts and a t shirt. Great place to try here in Lubbock! read more

Today we waited for over an hour for our food because our waitress walked out apparently(not because of us I'm guessing terrible management.) The manager didn't bother to ask us what we had ordered so we were missing half of the food that we originally ordered. She then spoke condescendingly to us to ask us what we were missing. One of us literally had to leave because of the stupid amount of time that we waited and half of the food that was brought out was already going cold.
