DiOrio's has an insane food challenge. We gathered recently for four friends to try to tackle the Massive Gibbon food challenge - woooow. I have never seen such a large, meat-loaded pizza. Good luck if you try this! Our server was so attentive during this, checking in with the food challengers and taking orders and bringing out other food for our group. I had a slice of pepperoni and the fried dough balls. The slice was huge! It was a perfect classic slice of pizza. The fried dough balls were phenomenal - so garlicky and buttery! While I don't think any of us ever wants to see the Massive Gibbon again, I'd come back for a slice of DiOrio's pizza anytime. read more

Stopped in for another lunch with a few friends and this time I ordered a Re Re salad with grilled chicken, larger size. I ended up taking 1/2 home because this thing was HUGE! The grilled chicken was cooked well, tender, moist, seasoned well. Lots of fresh salad greens, grape tomatoes, shredded cheese, croutons, and a delish ranch dressing. It was just as great when I finally polished it off the next day. Service is always great (shout out to Mark) and noise level is mild, which allows me and the pals to have catch-up conversations. After a group watch party of love island, I wandered into DiOrio's and had the most unexpected great experience. For starters I like how open the air flow is here. The front has windows and doors that are open so it doesn't feel stiff. The setup of the tables is weird but the building is long. On this night they had a DJ which was phenomenal. I love when a DJ can just make the vibes without the restaurant or bar having to do too much. The dance floor was flowing and the food was good and came out quickly. Best part of the night was finding out how good the mozzarella sticks are! See video for a cheese pull that I will be seeing again. DiOrio's - and this particular location - has become a family favorite. This is no easy task for my opinionated group of 4. We've now extended the love of DiOrio's to our parents and siblings. Things to know - their pizzas come in several sizes, including massive. That is part of the fun for us. We order it and talk about how big the pizza is during the meal. It is also incredibly cheesy. There's no need to order extra cheese. The vibe of this location is laid back and somewhat divey because of the large bar and wooden decor. We love it though. Less of a crowd and noise that we experience at the St Matthews location. Parking is easy to find on the Main Street or nearby side streets. read more

What was once a popping place is now barley holding on to stay open! I give them 1 star cause our waiter on Saturday was really trying his best to provide a good service! But the pizza was horrible, we asked for a pan crust and got some slop. I mean literally the pizza was thin and mushy and the cheese just slid off from every slice. We order drinks from the bar and the bartender had a terrible attitude treating our server as tho he was slow and incompetent! I ordered an old fashioned and it was a watered down mess! My wife ordered a drink called blue suede shoes and tasted like blue cool aid. The check was $90 plus I tipped our server well above 20% because he really did try his best. A casual place to enjoy food and friends. Good food, pleasant service, a nice bar, and a Golden Tee machine. Everything you need for a good night with friends or family. All their pizzas are delicious. But, my favorite is "Stephanie's White Pizza." This was called a "Garlic Pizza" where I grew up. And this one is delicious. It has an olive oil base with spinach, sliced tomatoes, onions, garlic, lots of mozzarella, and feta cheese. It's one of the best pizzas in Louisville. OMG!!!!!! This restaurant is amazing. I've been disappointed by many of the restaurants I've been to, but this place has redeemed my hope in going out to eat. The waiter John was very knowledgeable of the menu and he added to the enjoyment of the meal. We sat outside on the patio and it was awesome people watching and talking. My only problem with this restaurant is that they charge $12.99 or 13.99 for a slice of pizza. I ordered the max veggie and it was amazing. DiOrio's is one of the best places to get consistently good pizza in the city. We come here pretty often for several reasons: good service, there's usually somewhere to sit, food is reliably tasty, and it's right across the street from one of our favorite watering holes, Outlook Inn. This time, I ordered a regular pizza with meatballs, which was cooked to perfection for me. My wife got a Philly Cheesesteak pizza on a gluten free crust that she enjoyed for multiple meals. Our friend's pizza was brought without the Alfredo sauce she asked for, so they quickly whipped up a second one with the correct order for no charge. None of this was atypical. The bartenders/servers are kind. The drink specials are worth the visit alone --- for Wine Down Wednesday, we got a $12 bottle of white to split. And in the past, we've enjoyed the open mic nights too. The one downside: atmosphere. The last several times (Wednesday/Friday/Saturday evenings) we've gone for dinner, there haven't been that many people inside. They stay quite busy with takeout orders, but we haven't seen as many actually eating at the restaurant as in years past. It's a great time when sports are on and the bar is full. Hoping that maybe we've just had bad timing and the next time we drop by, things are much busier. read more

I just think on this occasion I didn't really care for what I ordered (the pan version of the gibbon) The ingredients are good but the pizza is just kind of weird, the crust was oddly very thick. DiOrio's is a pizza and pub located off Baxter ave at the tail end of the popular Highlands area of Louisville. Unlike most highlands establishments they do have a private parking lot. I stopped in here tonight for the first time with my family of 6 along with 2 other Friends along for a sleepover. There was no wait so we were seated immediately. I love the decor in here. Very old fashioned pub designed with a spectacular looking Bar area and some cool wall art. The bar is kinda setup like and old school library. Very cool! We started off with 2 appetizers. We got the mozzarella sticks and the d fried balls (garlic knots). Both were amazing and both were very large quantity which is an oddity for appetizers. My wife and daughters said it was the best cheese sticks they have ever had. I'm not quite ready to say that but they were very good with a nice golden crisp and great cheese flavor. For our dinner we ordered a 30 inch cheese. Yes you read that right. 30 inches! It was massive. Biggest pizza I've ever seen. And it was great! My favorite style in thin style and squares pieces. Evidently they have a fully loaded one called a massive gibbons. And if 4 people can eat it in under 45 min it is free and you can win a $100 gift card. So I'm sure that would be fun to do. The 8 of us despite devouring several pieces barely took out half of it. So it's safe to say it could feed 15 people easily. Which for a just over $45 is a great bargain especially since it was tasty. Very cool and memorable for not only the kids but me as well. Coming in here tonight we had no idea they had pizzas that big. I'm just working down a list of pizza places in Louisville I hadn't tried yet and this place was next. I'm glad we came. Me and 3 best friends are trying to find the best pizza in Louisville. If you're following the tip sag crew, this is #6 of 17 for pizza places in Louisville. The pizza was 7.2 of 10 for me. It had a cornmeal bottom which I love. It also had some great flavors and was one of our favorite "classic" pizza places, but not like a top 5 pie. The two pizzas we got were 15" "little Vic's spicy pesto pepperoni pizza" and "Gabrielle's Little Piggy". We loved our waiter, David, who guided us to the right pizzas and beers and kept us laughing the entire time. We brought a big group to this restaurant last weekend and had THE BEST time. Ty and Kate, our servers, were amazing. So fun and responsive and flexible. The pizza was delicious and earned rave reviews from everyone. All the apps we got, especially the garlic knots, were devoured and didn't last long. We happened to come in on karaoke night too, so that was a fun surprise. Overall it was an amazing evening after a long day of volleyball and we couldn't recommend it more for a fun night out. read more

As a black person from North Carolina, I have never experienced the lack of respect I just received in this restaurant, due to what I can only recognize as blatant racism. I placed a $70 dollar carry out order and when I went up to the bar to get assistance I was met with nothing but BLANK STARES and apathy. No greetings, no server/bar staff asking if I needed help.. nothing. At one point I flagged down the prick who was bartending as he looked over at me several times trying to get someone to help me. (Dude waves back at me over the bar sarcastically and continues avoiding helping me, he's a dick hole.) It was impossible not to notice the difference in the way other patrons (not black) were met with laughs and full undivided acknowledgment, and well...service. It was only after my boyfriend (6 foot white man btw) went up to the bar that we got any help! Easily one of the worst first-time restaurant experiences ever, I wish I never spent the money here and will not ever again. I hardly had an appetite after the situation and never again will I pay to eat at an establishment that doesn't treat ALL customers with decency and respect. Shame. read more

Even though it's been forever and a day since I been to this place, I still stick to my 4 star rating. Over time I haven't had too much of a chance to eat inside. Came here with a friend since they have also never eaten inside. Finding parking on the side of the building was no issue, getting a table was no issue, getting quick service was no issue. Our food- Shared the cheese bread (Pure Deliciousness), my friend got the Martha's Lasagna and a side salad with it. I got a big slice of Pepp pizza, I couldn't even finish it was so huge. I got pics of everything except the lasagna. I don't eat salad but, my friends salad was big portioned and picture perfect. They have a decent sized beverage menu, so you shouldn't have trouble finding what you like. Wish I caught our servers name, he was purely awesome and attentive. It was an early supper, and there was only 1 other couple in the area we were in, but our server seemed more focused on her phone and not us. We ordered Tom's toasted ravioli for an appetizer, the Max veggie pizza, and the Chicken Parmesan sandwich for our daughter. The pizza came out before the appetizer and it took awhile for us to get our second beers. The marinara sauce on the ravioli is outstanding, and we really enjoyed the pizza! We made our way there and took a table outside. Our server greeted us and she was great throughout our visit. We looked over the menu and decided to go with hot wings and a gibbon pizza. It was basically a supreme pizza. We substituted jalapeno peppers for the green peppers. Our food came out shortly after we ordered and it all looked great. The hot wings were perfect. We ordered them hot and they weren't too spicy. The extra hot was manageable as well. The blue cheese dressing was solid as well. The pizza had a good amount of toppings and had good flavor. It was a little sloppy as the center would not hold the toppings and was a bit moist. Next time we will order it crispy. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. The food and service was good. I've lived in Louisville my whole life and had never eaten or grabbed a drink here although I heard lots of good things about it. Just past the heart of the Highlands/Bardstown Rd hotspots, this place is criminally underrated in terms of fun spots in the area. I knew I wanted takeout from around here tonight so just eat in my front porch and relax, and I definitely made the right decision. Called in my order and it was ready in under 15 minutes. Owner and staff were extremely friendly and happy for the business. For just over $15, I got the Fried Ravioli and Meatballs and the famous D's Balls. I have about half of it left and already looking forward to the leftovers! I can't wait to come here after the stay at home order is lifted and try out some more items on their menu and check out the beer/liquor list. read more

Came in on St. patty's day. The crowd was small and open mic was happening. Ordered Mac and cheese bites and a pizza. Both hit the spot. The pizza was heavy crusted (not my fave but some people dig that) but the ingredients were quality. I love a good open mic but one of the performers was so loud, it was painful. Beware. I have such a hard time taking an Italian eatery seriously that doesn't have fresh cheese and instead offers that Kraft stuff that comes in packets. I just can't with that. Please, no, just don't. However, what this place lacks in food (which I rate as adequate, there is nothing wrong with it but nothing that makes me say, 'naw, Karen, we going here') it makes up for in service. The service here is always, always very good. Our last waiter predicted us losing pub trivia (which is why I go there) and he did it with such panache that I can't be mad at him. Ask for Aaron in English, Spanish, Korean, or American Sign Language. I can only speak English and New Jersey Sign Language. I almost always order their crispy pizza with pepperoni or Italian sausage on it. The Italian sausage is questionable and I wouldn't suggest it. The pizza is exactly what I want it to be for a pizza found in Louisville. The people of Louisville have extremely questionable taste in pizza and while they have a lot of places to get pizza very few are something I'd recommend. Come here for the trivia. Come here for the good service. Ask for Aaron, just not in French, Mandarin, or Gaelic. read more
